Super! FYI, Goulet Pens (and so Jowo) offer a wide range of No 5 nib sizes that can be swapped into the Jinhao 82. They cost more than the pen, but, for the line and shading/shimmer effects you might want, well!
i bought like 7 of these a month ago & yesterday i ordered three more. they released a new green & a blue & a ginger with glitter, couldnt resist... many don't like jinhaos because they use the designs of more expensive brands. i've no problem, i like this hobby because of it's freedom, not in it to follow social media rules.
Glad to hear I'm not alone! I did this video and then later found out AliExpress sells "already frankensteined" versions.... but I liked mine better. They dont change out the section - just the caps/bodies/and finials.
There are more with glitter, a green, greenish blue, blue, deep blue, dark yellow and pink. I just got into fountain pens and ordered 4 because it was 15 for all of them and I would love to much and match the tips etc. The only other fountain pens I own are a Twsbi eco and a Kaweco collection. Excited to try them when they arrive.
Hi Emma! You'll have to let me know how you like them when they arrive! Did you get any with the bent Fude nibs? Those are so fun too, especially with shimmer inks. I wish Jinhao would put out a little bit larger model, like the Pro Gear. That size is a bitter better for my hand size, these are cute but a tad small. I love the ones with glittery bodies- they are so much fun. Have fun!
@@HandmadebyLorelei : Yes, it is a normal Jinhao #5 nib in the 82s. You will also find this nib in the Jinhao 992. Many people prefer writing with a #6 nib and a gold nib. I love the #8 nib they are using in the X159.
@@HandmadebyLorelei unfortunately the original nib was a awful. Very scratchy. Couldn’t do nothing for improving it. So, I took the nib out from a Jinhao a51. It’s a dream now ☺️
Color-wise, these are great. But for me, the Sailor experience has always been about the nib. I've never been big on the colorways that Sailor comes out with, so I'm not one to blow money on the new ones that come out. It's not for me. And when I'm using my pens, I'm not looking at the color of the pen I'm writing with. Sure, it's pretty, but am I staring at it while writing? No. It's the sensation while I'm writing that I enjoy. That nib/paper/ink combo. I want to get one of these Jinhao 82s just to see what the build is like.
I was surprised, how "substantial" 82 feels in hand. I like 992 very much. For me, it was the first pen that i could mix and match. But it is made of very cheap plastic that cracks easily. 82 seems to be made from a better quality materials. It can also be disassembled into most basic components (even the cap consists of two parts that can be unscrewed), allowing incredible mixing possibilities. However, there seems to be inconsistency in assembly process. I bought 12 82s so far. Some i was able to fully disassemble with just my fingers. Some required pliers. And some just refused to budge no matter what i did.
Pro tip: Go to the about 12 minute mark if you want to see how Sailor designs their expensive limited edition pens. 🤣 Thanks for this video overview! I think most jinhao pens aren't for me, for various reasons, but it's fun to see others play with them. :)
Heeehee!!!😂 Thanks for commenting. I'd love to hear your reasons the Jinhaos aren't for you ... Legit! Like, tell me if I'm missing some pertinent pen knowledge. I am still so inexperienced with this pen hobby.
@@HandmadebyLorelei I don't think you're missing out on pen knowledge! It's more about my thoughts on buying stuff from Amazon and/or China, along with a desire to be more intentional in the pens I buy, now that I've got an idea what I look for. :)
Hi David, thanks for watching! Ginger-yes I have seen it called Ginger too. Watermelon Red, ok. yea sounds about right. And then yesterday I think I saw the blue called Lake Blue. Is the Ginger one the only one you got? what nib did you get, do you like it?
@@HandmadebyLorelei I bought a disposable fountain pen off Amazon last week just to see if I'd enjoy using it. I did, and now I've bought the Jinhao 82 from Ebay. So technically it's my second fountain pen, but I feel the 82 is my first. The nib is a fine. I'll probably use the Waterman Harmonious green ink. I've also got my eye on the Hongdian N7 moon rabbit, it's so aesthetically pleasing to me.
Hey, we would do well to act like a child sometimes! In fact, you can buy a few of them with changes in mind, like a deep blue and a pastel blue. I recently bought one and it’s a beautiful semi-clear purplish blue, and it has a Fine nib which writes like an EF….very surprising. It’s Black Friday 2024, and AliEx…. Has these for $0.99 cents!! Unbelievable! And who can afford $200. For a pen? If that were the case, my house would be paid off! Have a great day, thanks for sharing.
It is so interesting that you prejudged so poorly for a Jinhao pen. Over the past 5 yrs Jinhao has been stepping up its game in manufacturing pens. I am so glad your were pleasantly surprised with your acquisitions. I have two Jinhao 82s in my pen collection and actually has been writing with the yellow one for the past 3 weeks almost daily. There are collectors who can afford the Sailor limited edition pens. However, I am thankful that Jinhao is making pens that I can afford which allows me to enjoy writing with these writing instruments.
I've been writing with these for a week now and I love them all. I may order a Fine nib too just to see the difference. I wish they'd make a broad nib. I have an X159 too and I love it too!
It isn't alley, it's Ali, as in Muhammed Ali. Maybe you're not old enough to remember him. But it's not alley like a skinny street. I am definitely old enough to remember him and I guess that could make me something of a grump.
I've never listened to you before, but I wonder, does it ever occur to you that people might want to know what you have to say about the pens but don't want to spend half an hour listening to you just kind of stream of consciousness talk?
Hmmm. seems to me like you don't like what you're seeing here. I'd say it was time for you to move onto a another channel. Maybe you'll find something that you like better? As I have mentioned before on my channel- I'm no expert on pens, and certainly not an expert at pen reviews. But I do find that people like hearing real people talk about their opinions of pens- it doesn't always have to be someone that does reviews for a living. So I'll go ahead and bid you goodbye...
@@HandmadebyLorelei Okay. I think I was rude, but I also do think content creators frequently don't get to the point in a timely manner, and to those of us watching who are really curious, that drives us insane. That's why so many more youtubers put indexes, so if you don't have an hour to spare, you can easily find the information perhaps in the thumbnail that got you to click, without having to sacrifice a lot of time that you may not have.

Absolutely agree. Spending hundreds on a pen is frivolous unless you own a home with no mortgage and no debt. Then it is a fun and deserved splurg.

I have one of the short Jinhao 82's which I really like, and I now have a Jinhao 82 in the post, which I am looking forward to.
I'm glad to hear you're giving the 82 a go!
Love all my Jinhao and love my 82s!
Love Jinhao ❤️🥰
Me too! My current favorite is the 9019 dado with a fine nib. What are you gravitating towards?
It’s a very good copy of sailor 😂. I was stunned when I got the Jinhao. But the job was awful so I switched a normal Jinhao nib. It’s great now 🎉

I love these too! I have 5! I could buy more 😅
Wow ok! Wouldn't be the first time I was late to the party!!l lol
Do you do any urban sketching? Fountain pens are great for drawing!
No I don't but I do draw a bit with them in my journals.
this looks like too much fun
Just the right amount of fun 😂
I have a total of 9 Jinhao 82s, only 3 writes, and only 1 writes well.
i tried to tune the nibs but I broke like 4 of them lol
I dont think it is excessive at all! *having bought 6 myself*. I love all mine, and at $3.50 a pop I dont regret it, not one bit :)

I bought two 82s in M-nib for playing with shimmering inks, the pens are attractive but they are too small for me.
With shipping they cost more on Aliexpress.
And easier to return with Amazon.

Yes they test them before sending them out. I've had to flush them all.
