The reason they started using restrictor plates was that people died driving their cars with 0 safety precautions. Now the cars have state of the art safety installments, damn drivers are safer than astronauts. Restrictor plates no longer make any logical sense. Especially considering the _increase_ in the amount of wrecks and their magnitude, in contrast to their purpose.
