    We also do Pay Yourself First and am teaching my children that as well. In 2009, my husband and set the goal of living off one paycheck which we do - granted, we are high earners (worked for it, through lots of schooling and building a practice) but combined with responsible spending, savings, and sound decision making we were able to do it. As our income grew, so did our “ disposal income”. We also set aside monies for “travel” every year in the same way we save for retirement, college, and investments.

    I love how you mentioned charitable donations. My husband and I each donate 10% each paycheck to our church and some people think we are crazy. Donating makes us feel like we are doing something good. It is true the more you give, the more fulfilling life is and the more you also receive out of life. ☺️

    • @whatsilviadid3993
      @whatsilviadid3993 2 роки тому +5

      You are not crazy, what happens is that when you have your finances in order and follow a monthly budget, you are more intentional with your money and can afford to be more generous and those who dont think it is crazy cause they think they cannot afford it. I give away 20% of my yearly income in form of gifts, big tips to restaurants i love going, generous paycheck for xmas to my house helper, etc and that is because i believe that money is energy and a percentage of what I am lucky to receive, should be shared with others.

    Absolutely great video. Wish I had this knowledge years ago. I was “shopping” last night and had items in my cart and got to payment, and realized I didn’t need them. This way of thinking shocked me (I am an impulse shopper). But I then realized I am on a better path for 2022 thanks to you. I will start to keep a tally of I items I decided not to purchase. 🤔🤔🤔I have always been frugal with my saving and spending, but this video adds food to my plate. You are my pause/delete button. I think more about purchases, I may put items in my cart, but I pause before I purchase(or not) I also think about saving, I don't want to save at a point where I don't enjoy to fruits of my labor at present, while saving for my future (Covid Lesson) As always thanks for these 20/20 vision videos 😎

    I hold similar practices and beliefs and couldn't help but smile when I read the title" PYF.." It took me back to the early 90's when I first read The Richest Man in Babylon (the original 1926 edition) by George S. Clason. I appreciated that little book for its straight forward, no nonsense simplicity. The language is now dated, but the 'laws of wealth' are timeless. I enjoyed hearing many of them echoed here. Thank you for jarring that sweet little memory and for your concise and eloquent delivery. 💕

    I used to work in investments and it's wonderful how you explained these strategies in such a clear and concise way. I have always believed in these practices particularly paying yourself first and maximizing 401 contributions. It keeps me from spending money I don't see. Having said that, it is also important to give way to some of our "kryptonite" to reward ourselves, in a reasonable way of course. Mine is travel, as I prefer to buy experiences for my family. With the pandemic and having to stay home, I was able to save a lot in the past two years but I look forward to resuming overseas travel this spring break, fingers-crossed.

    • @hellocatwalkcity

      Thank you!! That means a lot coming from someone who worked in investments. As for the kryptonite, yes! We all have something, don’t we! 😂 I think travel is essential so I don’t consider it in the kryptonite category. 🙈 I say travel is necessary for my soul. ✈️ Hope you’re able to enjoy some fabulous travels this year!!

    Wonderful video!! All excellent points, and we also do 1 year emergency fund (along with everything else that is relevant to us that you mentioned). Love the idea of tracking what you didn’t buy and then paying yourself with that - great and fun motivation.
    Other considerations we have that I know you don’t have is a mortgage but also balancing paying off mortgage faster vs investing that money. And also estate planning - wills, etc especially if you have kids. Diversify (of course), consider other forms of investment like property, business venture investments, alternative sources of income. From my first full time job at 22, I have always maxed out the 401k. That has definitely been a wise choice. Yes! Pay yourself first! Good reminder!!
