I'm curious to know when using 8.5x11 paper and cutting a simple rectangle shape...what is the maximum print then cut size? I'm guessing if you use just a simple rectangle you can get 8 inches wide and 11 inches long, figuring that print registration takes roughly 1/2 inch total from width and height? Right now I use my Cricut Maker 3 to cut my tumbler sublimation prints perfectly for 20oz tumblers at 9.35" X 8.0"...and unfortunately on Cricut Maker 3, you have to waste 11x17 because the max print then cut size is 7.9" x 6.76 inches...so I just flip over to the 11x17 size and it fits and works very well...however it does waste a significant amount of the paper. It's not expensive really, but I would consider getting a Starcraft Solo if I could confirm I could cut 9.35" x 8.0" using 8.5 x 11 paper instead of the larger 11X17.
I think for most of us, anytime we see a new software or machine it can seem complicated and overwhelming. Many people feel that Cricut Design Space is complicated the first time they see it, but ultimately, the more we use and learn any software the easier it becomes. 😊 Also, like Sandy pointed out, the calibration is a one time thing. 😊
Great tutorial. This Solo looks like a great machine. I'm going to pass on it though. I can't help myself, I'm a Cricut girl. All that needs to be done is for Cricut to expand the cutting space for print then cut.
I know a lot of the other comments mention that it looks complicated- and I was nervous to watch the video after glancing through them. But, I was pleasantly surprised how absolutely do-able (and quickly) it seemed. A nice mix of features that I enjoy from both Design Space and Silhouette Studio. I think it would only take a couple times to have this mastered pretty quickly with tutorial videos like this already out there when the machine launches

I'm excited about this machine. It looks like there is a lot of space between the images and the registration marks (like cricut). What is the biggest image you can print then cut on an 8.5x11 page?
It looks kinda of confusing to me, but it does seem like it does do more than the cricut. I'm an October baby like Elizabeth, so maybe, who knows, I might get one. I was intimidated by design space too, but now can operate it with my eyes closed, so I'm sure I can learn this too.

I feel like I'm falling in love with this machine alongside you! What other materials is it able to cut? Can it also do engraving or debossing? I was planning on purchasing a Cricut Maker 3 but I'm being swayed.
Yes, it will do engraving and debossing once those tools are released. Here's a list of other materials that have been tested. More materials of similar thickness and density as these should also cut: Acetate Adhesive Vinyl Cardstock Chipboard (up to 0.033”) Construction Paper Craft Foam Craft Plastic (up to 0.02” PET-G) Double-Sided Adhesive Fabric Felt Heat Transfer Vinyl Label Sheets Leather (up to 0.06”) Magnet Sheets (up to 0.035”) Mylar (up to 0.010”) Copy Paper Photo Paper Poster Board Rhinestone Template Materials Shrink Film Styrene (up to 0.015”) Wood Veneer (up to 0.015”)
I'm sold after seeing that cut preview feature. Seems like there's so many ways to double check your work before actually creating the project and ruining materials and wasting so much time. Cricut really frustrates me on that end.
Absolutely true! The CREATE software has various combinations of settings which affect where shapes will cut. But if you pay attention to the preview in the Cut Settings window, you will understand where your design is going to cut.
I've been working with my machine, it's been hit or miss... didn't do the calibration this time, but I've done it. When I do the scan I can see it scans the registration marks, but it doesn't cut around the design, it cuts through it.... why??? Getting very frustrated with it 😢. Can you help me fix it? Thanks. Joyce
I can not find a video ... where you use an image and turn it into a sticker ... everyone is using sticker bundles ... seriously insert crying face ... I bout so many images planning to convert them to stickers ... HELP PLEASE!!!! I know we are all learning together :)
Michael, I received a SOLO for Christmas and would very much appreciate you putting out more tutorials for this machine! The learning curve is huge on the CREATE software. Thanks!
So happy I found your video! I have been struggling for a couple of days now and could not find a video to better explain to me like this one ! You helped me learn my cricut and now my solo ! Thank you !
Would this be same method for a tshirt transfer I bought this machine for specifically making shirt prints But it’s been in box since April I can’t figure out, I’m a visual learner

I enjoy watching all you videos, I have learned many tips from you and good knowledge regarding the Starcraft SOLO machine. I just won a SOLO machine participating on a raffle and I prayed to win it, now I am trying to understand it. Thanks for all the help!
I haven't gotten my machine yet. It should be arriving this week. I'm feeling a little nervous I'm not gonna lie. It feels like there are a lot of steps to take to use the machine. It may be because I am used to the maker 3. Will it get easier???
I was finally abe to save up and get a starcraft Solo, what a game changer! Now I just need to find more video on the software and using the program for projects!
I used to have an Ioline years ago and the software was difficult and the connection required a dongle from pc to cutter - does this require anything special as far as security? Tia!
i have done all those steps but it is not working for me. Once I put the picture to cut and put start scan my camera and blade move all the way to the right.
First I really like your demonstrations but that solo seems to be a lot of work, do you have to make sure the cuts are right every time you do a project?
Hi, Thanks for a very exciting look at this machine. Two questions : How does the Solo work with transparent photo paper for print and cut ? Can I lay out a full 8.5 x 11 page in photoshop, save as a png, and import without having to re-manipulate the files ? Thank you.
Sorry, a couple more questions. Do you have to go through the alignment process every time you print and cut ? Can you save a cut and print file and use it over and over ? Thanks again !
My create does not even see my SVG files what is up with that? I am taking jpg from the internet and using Inkscape to turn them into SVG files and my create won't see them. What am I doing wrong?
It should be working just fine. When you say "my create won't see them", are you saying when you click on the Import button at the top and browser to find the files, you don't see them available to import? Have you tried dragging and dropping them from Windows Explorer (or from Mac Finder) onto the Create screen?
Like so many other products in the USA, the SOLO's arrival has been delayed due to the current supply chain issues. There SHOULD be an announcement in about 2 weeks.
I am coming from the Cameo Plus and Cameo PRO, but ready to throw the PRO out the window lol my Solo arrives friday and I am super excited to hopefully FINALLY get cuts done right. But I have a question, your stickers have the white outline, are you able to cut closer to the black outline to avoid that white around it? If so do you happen to have a video showing how to do that? I make shirts, and I know not everyone will like that white around their design.
I have the cricut design space V6.12.227. I down loaded a western design, it down loaded as a print then cut, I just wanted a cut, how do I change it to a cut only? I watched some other youtubes but there design space is different then mine. Please help!
You had mentioned a printer you were using maybe a canon maker? What are your thoughts? Or if I am totally wrong do you have a printer you love?! Thanks, Julia
Hello thank you for this tutorial 💓 but I am having a major issue my images cut perfectly all around but also cuts right through my images no matter what image do you happen to kno how to fix this
Do you have a tutorial on how to draw directly on Create using a digital pen? I was hoping this was an option for Create. Thank you Also, how to make rhinestones?
Thank you for this tutorial. I recently become interested in purchasing machine for cutting fabric. I like the fact that you can download your files on a USB drive and you don't have to connect to the internet or your computer after that.
Can you please let me know where I can get a weeding pen from? When I followed your link it won't allow me to purchase here in Australia...it looks amazing and would love to get one
I'm a total cutting machine noob so I couldn't justify the cost of one of these spiffy machines, but maybe the price will come down over time. It does look pretty cool, and thanks for all your excellent tutorials.

Great Tutorial!! Can you compare the maximum size print then cut someone could make from your Canon printer to a Starcraft machine and then to a Cricut? It would be interesting to see how much bigger of print then cut you could make with the same image on the different machines using a standard inkjet printer.
You make this look so easy, I am the proud owner of a new Starcraft Solo (I won it, only had to pay 1/2) with your videos I am hoping that I can do this!!!!

This is cool but I'm gonna stick with the Silhouette Cameo pro 24. I can do bigger jobs for the same price point.
Thank you Mr Crafty Pants (Michael) and Dori Bergman, Michelle Zahniser and everyone with comments and answers.
It seems so hard to use so many steps…
I like that it cuts larger tho…
Note that the camera calibration only ever needs to be done once.
