My favorite line from NCIS was when someone asked Gibbs what Ducky looked like when he was young and Gibbs said, "He looked like Illya Kuryakin".

@@dexterfurman9118I think the "not getting it" was part of the point, because it meant that Gibbs had watched "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." as a teen. Pointing out fun gaps between generations.

That show was beyond cool. We all watched it religiously. All the girls at school (third grade?) had crushes on Ilya-- he was The Beatle-Mania of TV. Even my little sister gushed about him. Phenomenal! Anyway, most of us got the banter/ribbing between Napoleon and Ilya (even at that young age), and attempted replication of it out on the playground-- good times!

The first couple of seasons of UNCLE were extremely good, as good as Bond, maybe better, and there was no goofiness in them. The switch caused many of the fans to leave, making ratings plummet. They tried going back to the original style (watch the last season) but by then it was too late . Watch also the first seasons, one of the very first episodes had Captain Kirk and Spock as guests. Too bad Hulu or Netflex doesn't carry it. I have the DVD set. Illya and Napoleon were working colleagues. They had girlfriends and were NOT gay as made by video makers. Just because they were friends who worked well together, that didn't make them any closer. Besides, Illya preferred dark-haired ladies-except for the lady David's wife played (Marion). Loved the humour in "MFU".

You don't have to strain your imagination to see similarities between MFU and Archer. Yes the later is built on comedy but they lifted many ideas and situations from MFU. Get Smart deserves a mention as well.

Very good "Tronyfree"! Brings back wonderful memories when things were simpler back then.
I loved those shows as they were very entertaining and very accurate even though our own "agencies" did NOT want us to now about. Similar to INTERPOL in some ways, but not the same.Too much corruption even now and inside the U.N.)
I later went into the USSS in Wash.D.C.(1974) and also took care of Embassy Security(FMD) as well as counter-terrorism and The White House-WHD(Ford & Carter) and I was probably one of very few who took all my previous training seriously including martial arts.
Not ALL "agents" are trained in Martial Arts, etc....

I started watching the original Outer Limits on ROKU this New Year's Eve and saw a character who seemed vaguely familiar in an episode called The Sixth Finger. It was David McCallum who I later connected to The Man From Uncle from the 1960s. I was just a small child then and really didn't follow the plot but I remember the character. The show was on every Friday night as I remember.

David Mccallum is in the 90s remake of Feasibility Study. Aliens carve out part of a town (neighborhood) and take it to their planet to see if humans would make good slaves for the aliens.

To our host "trony" for whom we're grateful for posting this gem: Since you're blessed with a long memory with your mention of the Road Pictures, "U.N.C.L.E." was filmed in that movie series' aspect ratio of 1.33 : 1 aka 4x3. How awkward it would be to see Paramount's b&w Road prints awkwardly and needlessly manipulated into a phony widescreen as is done here.
How about giving another go at this so we see how PERFECTLY it looked in the '60s when MGM delivered its standard format, 35 mm Metrocolor prints to NBC, i.e., 1.33 : 1, for presentation to its millions of "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." viewers?
