    If you wish to retain your factory subwoofer using the amp bypass harness, simply connect the pos/neg sub wires to a RCA jack and then plug the RCA jack into your stereo. Very simple to do and you get to keep your subwoofer (although it's kind of crappy) as having a bad sub is better than no sub IMO.

      I did the RCA method in my Si and for some reason I get a crackle/pop sound through the speakers when I lock and unlock the doors. It did work to remove the annoying static sound and the loud volume issue though, any suggestions? I'm thinking its because the new head unit isn't compatible with the factory amp, I might consider actually bypassing the amp and installing an aftermarket one but then i'd also have to upgrade the speakers UGHH its becoming a rabbit hole..

      Once you understand what the harnesses are for and why you need them it is very simple to do and understand. You are avoiding powering the aftermarket amp with the power of the factory amp. Also you can take the sub pos/neg wires and connect them to an RCA jack to keep your factory subwoofer.

    Wish I had this video when I did this about a month ago, but in single din format for a 80 PRS from Pioneer. The only problem I faced that you didn't in the video was the ac controls on my dash kit were getting stuck when I had them in, so after playing with it for a while found that using washers to list the screws closest to the radio fixed my problem.

    • @michaelhuebner6843

      Had the same issue so I just took a knife and scrapped plastic from the bottom climate control hole until the buttons no longer got stuck when pressing them. The climate control hole is too small but shaving plastic away to make the hole larger works as well. You are just shaving plastic away from the inside housing so nothing is noticeable once the climate controls are installed.

    • @michaelhuebner6843
      @michaelhuebner6843 2 роки тому +1

      So Civics have different setups for audio. The 06-11 Civic DX (baseline model) has no factory amp, sub, or tweeters. The Civic EX and Civic Si models come with factory premium audio and 7 speakers (2 tweeters in the dash, 2 front door speakers, 2 rear speakers and 1 factory subwoofer). If your Civic has premium audio you need to bypass the factory amp because your aftermarket stereo has an amp built in. If you don't bypass the factory amp, your stereo amp will power your factory amp and cause too much power to the speakers and will make them sound like crap. You disconnect the speaker wires from your factory amp and connect the factory amp speaker wires harness to the aftermarket amp bypass harness. The harness to power your stereo connects to the factory harness from your factory stereo. You will have an unused harness that used to connect to your factory stereo which is the steering wheel control harness. You can buy the Axcess ASWC-1 module to retain steering wheel controls.

    • @michaelhuebner6843
      @michaelhuebner6843 2 роки тому +1

      The aftermarket stereo doesn't have wires for you to wire the factory tweeters and sub. You should get aftermarket speakers for your car anyway and most speakers have tweeters built in if they are 2 way or 3 way speakers. The way to fix no factory subwoofer problem is to take the subwoofer pos/neg wires and connect them to an RCA jack and then plug the RCA jack into your stereo. The aftermarket amp bypass harness has wires for all 7 speakers so it's very easy to do.

      You just connect the amp turn on wire to the blue wire for your aftermarket head unit harness as well as the the aftermarket harness that plugs into the factory harness

    Hey quick question. I have a civic si and I think I have the premium sound system, so that means I have 7 outputs, 2 tweeters, two front, two rear, and one sub. If I by pass the amp don't I lose three channels?

    • @CliffsHowTo
      @CliffsHowTo  5 років тому

      All that will work after are the two door and two rear deck speakers. So you lose the woofer and tweeters.
      You can get bass blockers and rewire in the tweeters if you want.

      @@LoudGuitar14 The iDatalink RR Maestro unit will keep all your factory settings so you don't have to bypass the amp. It's easier and cheaper to bypass the factory amp and wire the factory sub pos/neg wires to an RCA jack and plug the RCA jack into the stereo. You can also splice the tweeter wires into your front speak wires if you want, but you should install aftermarket 2 way or 3 way speakers into your Civic that include tweeters on all 4 speakers. Makes the crap factory tweeters pointless.

      If the amp works, use it. If it’s broken, as mine was, bypass it.
      If the amp is not turning on, find a diagram for the radio plug in the car, and run that to the blue amp turn on wire on the new radio. That should make it turn on with the radio.
