  • We walk through all of the wiring for a 4 gang boat switch panel. This panel has 2 inline fuses with each one protecting 2 switches, switch location lights as well as switch ON/ID lights. Great little panel for a small jon boat setup.

    This is extremely helpful and very simple to understand. This is the only video that actually breaks it down in simple terms for a person who has never done any electrical work in a boat. Awesome video and thank you!

    I don’t know jack about electricity. I don’t even know what a fuse is. None of this makes sense to me.

      I’d get a marine shop to wire it up. They would probably do pretty cheap.

      I think the ones you are taking about are just to distribute/jump the power to the switch lights

    So I can run my light bar wire straight to the back of the switch?

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  2 роки тому

      Best practice is to have a fuse block. Light bar to fuse block to switch. If your switch is fused you could go directly to the switch if the fuse amp rating matches the protection you need. Or have an inline fuse going to the light bar

    How do you feel about this switch board a year later?

      @@Skinnyriver one more question, do you see any problem with putting a minn Kota trolling motor 2 separate led lights and then navigation lights on it?

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  Рік тому +1

      Are you wanting to put the trolling motor on it? That’s too many amps, the switch board (and most like it) is only rated for 10amps. So only lights and small things like bilge pumps

    • @Ndjdme
      @Ndjdme Рік тому +1

      That’s what I was worried about I suppose I should watch a couple more videos on low voltage in general

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  Рік тому +1

      There is really not a reason to wire your trolling motor through a switch. Because you control it (on off) when you are using it. Most people direct wire to the battery and have a 50 amp inline fuse or 50amp DC circuit breaker that protects if there ever was an electrical issue (prevents fire hazard)

  • @noahhiggins500

    Great video. I bought the same panel. I’m concerned on it draining my battery since the switch lights are always on even if the switches are in the off position and the equipment attached are off. Anyway around this?

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  2 роки тому

      Yeah you have to get a main power switch/cutoff between your battery and the rest of the boat wiring. Or do what I do and simply unhook the positive connection off the battery terminal when not in use

    • @noahhiggins500
      @noahhiggins500 2 роки тому +1

      @@Skinnyriver ok, and if I have a fuse box/buss bar, would the master switch be between the battery and fuse box?

    • @Skinnyriver
      @Skinnyriver  2 роки тому +1

      I’m not an electrician but I think the main kill switch should be before everything (immediately after the battery) That way if you have an issue with your fuse block (rat chews some wires and it starts smoking), when you kill power it kills it to everything. Just make sure the switch is rated at high enough amps. ALL the current for everything in the circuit will go through that switch. Not that huge of an issue unless the trolling motor is on the battery. Trolling motor can pull 50 amps.

    • @steveo692
      @steveo692 Місяць тому

      Yes...ideally to a negative bus bar, that way you only need one black wire from the bus bar to the battery
