"They're just filming him like an animal walking in a zoo" - and this is why Magnus needs and gets his own lounge at these events.
Exactly he’s easily the most popular and famous chess player he’s literally a celebrity, he needs his own private area where he can’t be harassed by cameras
they treat him like a goat lol
@@BrandonAiyukSZN gotta treat the goat like a goat
Well, if it looks like a goat, sounds like a goat, and acts like a goat, it should be treated as one. @BrandonAiyukSZN
He might never be late to a match again
Levy in the video: “will Magnus be able to bounce back?”
Levy’s title: “HE WON! HE WON! HE WON!!!”
Note that "he" not always refers to Magnus
Half of his viewers probably dont read titles. They're always vague click bait just like the video before it. Why pay attention to them.
@@manfredbaedke7599of course it wasn’t about magnus, when is it ever when it comes to levy’s content
@@manfredbaedke7599the cover photo refers
To put Magnus' dominance into perspective, understand that he won the World Blitz Championship with 16/21 points and STILL lost 1 rating point in the process. That's how dominant he is. Unheard of and utterly insane.
I was hoping you would mention the fact that he won both the world Rapid and world Blitz two years back to back while nobody has ever done it even once not to mention Magnus did the same in yet another 2 years 2014 and 2019
@@williamrobert9898😅
It's really not that dominant at all. Kasparov was sometimes 100 elo ahead of the entire rest of the chess players. Meanwhile Carlsen has to fight to retain number 1, especially in blitz.
@@RaniaIsAwesomeyou are crying because your favorite player loses to Carlsen by Magnus margin.
@Morphysince94 why so depressed?
Magnus loses one game of 36.
Kramnik: That's interesting.
Magnus just going for a walk somehow gives main character energy
he is literally walking. why is this giving you main character energy?
MC = Main Character = Magnus Carlsen
@@Zoruk_ lmao 😂😂
No
He's the main character of Chess tbf
No one can deny me that Levy is the undercover social media manager of Magnus
He was hired by the Mossad
How impressive it is that Daniil Dubov still came 2nd after losing that half point against Nepo!!
Hin and nepo were seen talking before game and the draw was already decided by players.
@@barun9665 Sure, but I feel like we were robbed of a really exciting playoff between him and Magnus.
@@barun9665ofc it was or else they wouldn't they wouldn't do that knight dance
Yup, shame rigging the game ‘only’ cost them 1/2 a point.
@@RPHelpingHand It didn't "only" cost half a point. In the end, it did cost Dubov the chance to be world champion.
Magnus at the lake:
- "Is it time?"
Drunk Magnus:
- "Yeah"
17th title.
MVL playing into one of Magnus's favorite openings and beating him in an endgame is baller as hell.
MVL does not disappoint! What a sacrifice! Observing that the bishop is better than any of the rooks!
You’re making this comment in this video? Mvl didnt win anything
@@markrobertson3054he won against Magnus????? Hellooo
MVL won the first game in this video, doing exactly what the commenter said. What are you on about?

Ahh I hoped to see the 219 move game by Alexandra Kosteniuk which ended in a bishop-knight checkmate
I couldn’t believe what I was watching game of the week I say
@@Madjid.V yeah. Honestly barring that one game this entire event was a bit of a snoozefest.

Dubov almost wins but he was busy teaching Ian how knights move.
Writing this from Samarkand, and physically attending the tournament as a spectator. Today the weather outside was sunny and warm, and I saw Magnus actually going down and walking along the shore after each game. He didn’t spend time in his “personal lounge”, but rather preferred strolling along the rowing canal, where the whole hotel and the playing hall is built. I just thought, no issue with personal lounges. Ian was also spending some time outside, but just next to the building.
The only reason Magnus is still playing chess is to save levy from starvation
I've always sucked at chess and never wanted to get better.
I love your videos. I love how you cover chess. I love how passionate you are.
You make chess exciting and understandable in a way no one has done since the advent of the internet (I'm sure there was some great radio announcer 60 years ago or something, but you're the best I've ever known).
Personally I find walking by a lake or a river to be calming and grounding. For me it is a great way of dealing with negative stuff.
That walk by the lake was when something just snapped in Magnus
I just started reading your book - it's fantastic! Compared to other intro books it shows that you are a great teacher. And the design is outstanding. I'm looking forward to more books from you :)
These were awesome. Followed every one and thoroughly enjoyed how you broke down those games as well as your personality and passion for the sport
I love Shakhriyar. Absolute antithesis of boring, theoretical chess. The immortal he played last year (I think) was unbelievable
MVL taking out Magnus in one of Magnus' favorite setups is just insanely cool!
Yeah, Magnus also did that to him in the AI Cup last two months or so LOL. Though MVL still won the event.
Magnus blundered in the opening…
@@stianaandal1488 Yes, exactly. He just messed up the moveorder in a known opening. He was clearly frustrated just after making the bishop move, forgot he had to play a6 first to remove mvls knight. Magnus loosing the pawn in the opening is enough for a player of MVLs level to convert
@@LostBananaable Exactly. It was not a sacrofice it was just a clear blunder in the opening
Damn Maxime COOKED in that first game.
Dubov losing because of the horse draw is tragic
Levy and Magnus are a match made in Gotham.
Magnus listening to his rap
"Is it fair to provide
@MagnusCarlsen
a personal LAKE where he can rest... while nobody else has such an opportunity?"
Great games by Artemiev, in his last game with Caruana he was one move away from matching Magnus on points (Edit: I made mistake, even if he would won, he wouldn't match Magnus)
No, even if he won he would’ve still been a half point behind Magnus
@@adifferentusername999 You are right, my mistake. Artemiev ended third with 15 points and Magnus first 16 points.
Only legends know the earlier title was "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!"
i’d definitely be interested to see a researched video about the history/reasons of the various differences between open and women’s events. if you do make something like that, including interview(s) with top rated women and IM level players would be cool
Yeah
Levy never fails
You even watched the video??
297 videos:
Gothamchess's best blanders
Fails never levy
Levy never fails to immediately spoil the outcome of the video
I love your videos levy keep it going
need a David Attenborough voiceover on that video
I hoped for a recap of Kosteniuk game with 200+ moves against Koneru, such an insane game of bishop, rook, knight and pawn against a Queen.
He is getting really creative with titles not gonna lie.
Magnus won 33 of 34 games of OTB chess. Interesting 🤔
- Kramnik
incredible for magnus to lose the opening match, and storm back to win both titles, that just takes a level of mental fortitude i'm not capable of grappling with
The World Champ did it again: Top preformer and still lost ELO rating.
Imagine he's listening to David Goggins and going into his next match thinking who's gonna carry the boats
Appreciate the descriptive titles!
"Disrespute [sic]"
-Levy
So nice of Magnus to invite Levy to his channel
Comments never fail to slander Levy. That won't be tolerated anymore
This Magnus guy has a bright future.
From yesterday I only remember the door opening with door guy defence.
is it just me or was the title "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!"
How do you know I was born 5 years ago???? I am only 33 you really accurate
Levy never fails to make a UA-cam apology
Levy gets me through first shift weekend duty like no other…thanks bro happy new year 🥳
Magnus and Levi are like Goku and Veg… Krillin.
😅
Levy never fails to include the man who walks by the lake, jokes aside i love all your recaps Levy. Happy new year ya'll
I've noticed I've won more games lately by not holding to piece scoring like it is holy dogma. I trade rooks for bishops and knights a lot more than I used to.
He sacrificed me... but he won.
Stop ducking me Levy
Fabi is the best player in the world at getting good positions but he stuggles to convert them whereas Magnus can convert anything anytime
it feels like every video that has been posted by gotham this month has been the "final" major game or event
Yea
I liked my own comment above 👆
Magnus just had AI cup flashbacks after losing to MVL
Mad Magnus is every GMs nightmare
How Magnus never stops producing milk for Levy is truly genius.
“Its pushin p, nevermind it’s pushing d, pause” - Gotham Chess
😂I was looking for this comment
Oddly enough I did see fabi vs Magnus in 2018 even though I didn’t really watch chess much back then only had a vague interest in it until about 2020 when lockdowns happened
Levy is the John Madden of chess. Levy, a foil in both with you during commentary would be fun.
Levy don't let people get to you, I actually Love your click bait!! They're always funny and amusing
Huge W for 17 world titles...insane run!
But Huge W for MVL...cause I believe Levy mentioned that people stopped playing into that opening against Magnus since it was Magnus' bread and butter...so not only was he Magnus' only loss, MVL did it against Magnus' strong defense!
Sacrificing a Rook in an endgame against the best endgame player to ever walk the planet, is truly the most gangsta behaviour.
But, but, but, you can't win that many games in a row without cheating according to Kramnik....
Levy thank you for your hard work, we appreciate you ❤️

just in time for my dinner thank you for keeping us entertained gotham much love from UK
I love it when Levy gets fired up about people sacrificing pieces lol.
I still think that the ruling on the Daniil vs Ian match was bogus because if they dont want players to make draws in a fun way but just do it using the Berlin every single f*cking time then whats the point cuz its still gonna be a draw anyway. If the problem was really about "disrepute of chess" they woulda made a ruling against drawing matches early cuz a Berlin draw is only different to this one because one is the players having a bit of fun while reaching the literal same conclusion
MVL being Magnus' tournament demon has been a great side-story in late 2023. The fact that he beat Magnus in what he's comfortable in says even more!
Btw magnus's second game resembles to one the best Alireza's games
No way Levy didn't say "And he sacrificed the ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKK!!!!!"
Levy never fails to talk about Magnus
Magnus never fails to put levy in Gotham's video
So overused
Best chess commentator in the world. Great stuff. Love it.
Damn Magnus went to a holy lake😂
Magnus went for a walk, came back and then said ‘Nah I’d win’.
"me" never fails to watch Gothamchess while falling to sleep
That lake walk did the trick
Hi levy I bought your book and I must say, it is a very good book and has helped in chess a lot, it’s a very detailed book and has many innovative things that help it such as the QR codes. Anyone reading this I recommend the book.
The fact that the .5 of Dubov mattered makes me so happy:) I hope this is a lesson to all players to at least put the minimal effort in to make a draw (at least Berlin...) and not openly ridicule the competition with those knight jumps...
knight dance and berlin are equal drawish positions
Lmao "atleast the berlin" do you know that many games in the past candidates were prearranged by the berlin? How the fuck is "atleast the berlin" is better?
In what way is the knight dance ridiculing the competition?
@@Billy-be5fkclowns talking about the game being a draw before the game even starts should result in a DQ, shame they got it lightly
@@el_kasztanejlo8555if they had actually talked about drawing a game, it would be used as evidence in FIDE statement, but it wasn't
Levy never fails to apologise in his videos. We never forget, Levy, but we also never remember.
Poor Sarana. He was just in wrong time, wrong place
Levy never fails to include magnus in his videos
I relate to Magnus here. I, too, often walk along bodies of water after I lose. The big difference is, I'm still walking.
Said, I walk beside the still waters and they restore my soul
I swear Levi has single-handedly trained the AI to perfect Magnus thumbnails
Bro couldn't even walk for some privacy. Sad.
Levy never fails to fail in failing
The reason Magnus is winning these tournaments is because he’s trying to get Levy’s attention to be on thumbnail! Glad to see Levy helping players like Magnus to get famous
Insults hit way too close to home
I like when magnus wins but I also like when he loses, because it means someone had an outstanding game against him.
Just spent 168 hours in solitary confignment so I really appreciate Levy for blessing us with his content
hi mr beast
Let’s all appreciate how Levy never fails to incorporate Magnus into his thumbnails
The MVL game was absolutely beautiful.
Dear Levy. If Magnus isn't the WC who is? Ding? C'mon there can only be one!
