Reiterating about the great commentator. The small variation differences are well explained (like the pawn on c3 preventing fried liver equivalent) and so quick. Thank you!
Why is Gothamchess not covering any of these? I mean they cover the biggest names in chess like Aronian, Duda, Magnus, Ian, Vishy, and many others I cannot remember right off the bat.
In Gotham's defense, there's been a myriad of high end games that Gotham doesn't cover simply because there isn't enough time. And his viewers don't always enjoy high tier games and like the guess the elo and other such videos
if only all chess commentary was both passionate, and informative. Chess is much better to watch when its rapid/blitz than classical. Its also much more fun to play, I can see why Magnus doesn't want to play the WCC any more, we all know he's the best.
Folks this is not live commentating, it was done AFTER the game was played, and the board put up. That makes the commentary after the fact extraordinarily easy because he is not forecasting the moves but reviewing what happened hours earlier.
He played agressive, but very fair game. When it was queen vs rook, result was pretty much clear. Every GM knows the techinique how to win it quite well. I had a feeling that having e-pawn too did not help white at all. Nepo tried to keep it and it meant his rook was very limited in its moves.Rook had to stay on e-file and it made black easier to push white king to the edge and then to the h8 corner, where checkmate was inevitable . Nice endgame and well converted. For amateurs queen vs rook is one of the hardest endgames and I once even had to trade my queen to the opponent rook, because I did not get rid of the rook in some 25 moves and I was running out of time faster than my opponent.
@@sfurules Yes, but he wishes he was a famous football player like Messi because chess is less valued by the masses. A person gets the impression that he doesn't even enjoy playing chess. Every single time Magnus' opponent starts a postmortem discussion, Magnus furrows his brow, sticks out his lower lip and shrugs, as if to say, "I have no idea. That could've gone either way."
Look at Magnus' face when Ian resigns.. and he starts talking his usual way..: "You hotel rook indian hungry? Silvester Stallone goal spiderman Tracy Spencer". Magnus: "Eh??"
Ding was struggling with nepo. But magnus made it look easy. Cant believe he can force win in a long theoretical c5 line. Think magnus will be no 1 for long time
If Ian had studied QvR in more detail he could have mounted a much more stubborn defense. He needed to keep his rook distant from his king until he had a chance to get his king off the back rank. I think in many cases this ending is drawable in blitz despite being a theoretical win.
Maybe against a player clueless about the principles of Q vs R, but this doesn't include Magnus. To Magnus, this is a trivial win where the "hardest" move order to find under time pressure is losing a tempo by triangulation. A technique every chess player has learned from pawn end games.
That's why the eval bar is all in blacks favor, cause there's a theoretical strategy that allows black to checkmate white in this position. It doesn't matter what the white pieces do
In my opinion, the colorful t-shirt as dress code doesn't suite chess league. The image of chess players has been in formals, would have loved blazer over white colored shirt with the logo of the team on it. Maybe even go with different shades of blazer based on team color as well.
0:18 Are they taking to each other behind their hands here? Is that why Magnus always covers his face like that when adjusting his pieces?! Is he shit talking the other player before every game? 😂
Magnus sort of preys on his opponent's conventional wisdom. Whatever we are taught about chess, he goes is the absolute opposite direction of that. Here for example, you would think that because the bishops are opposite colored and the h pawn's queening square is of the WRONG color for black, Magnus would try to queen his other pawn. But Magnus does the opposite of that. Doesn't move that pawn at all, infact even gives it up voluntarily.
American here and I have to say I absolutely love the commentary. Keeps me super interested in every move. Such a talented commentator!
Was about to say this. Usually chess commentary is super boring... this is more exciting than American sports commentary!

Really great to hear the passion in the commentary, it's like watching a boxing match
Although he didn't do the commentary live, it's still good to hear.
Ian and Magnus swapped hairstyles from their WC match
