While growing up and enjoying my NEW FOUND freedom with my FIRST DRIVERS license , I would dream about all the places I'd be able to visit in my car without a whole lotta traffic around.......it WAS TRUELY just a dream....the roadways TODAY ARE an absolute mess...!!!!
No better around Chicago either!!! Hell, even some of the less traveled road have ignorant people driving on them and I live almost 40 miles south of the city...
In 82 I spent two weeks in Navada .One night in a tiny caravan alone at the end of Minden airport runway .Was awoken next morning by a Dakota landing right beside me .I was stiff with cold but it is a precious memory.Never thought at the time I would be able to see road trips like this just sitting at home here in England.I listen to KCKM and KART.with perfect sound .What a age of wonder we liv in.thanks for showing this and may god keep you safe on the road.
I was talking to a friend in Las Vegas a few years ago and I was telling him about my trip to Hawaii. We were laughing about having interstate hiways in Hawaii. He said that Las Vegas was the number one vacation spot for Hawaiians, and a big reason is they rent a car and just drive just to see something different. He said they can really rack up lots of miles on a rental car in just a few days.
If you've got a real good computer, get you a good wheel , shifter and pedals . You can get American Truck Sim, and Drive all the places he does. A lot of us old Retired or disable people do that. I've got a bunch of video of the sim game, you can find by typing in Truck and Duck Express on youtube... Got the same roads he's driving on.
Bless you, Mike. you know when to remain quiet. That drive is so stunning. My uncle was Mayor of Ely--a hundred years ago--or so.; had a liquor store. Liked that drive from Sacramento. A great thing about the drive was the fact that my mother actually shut up. Yakaholic, actually closed her jaws on that road! 70 years. Seems like yesterday. Thank you so very much.
I was stationed at NAAS (now NAS and top gun) Fallon Nevada in 1964. I was a city kid from Chicago and I fell in love with the towns, highways. and desert. I received orders to join a ship in 1966 and never had the chance to get back to the area to see how it has changed since I was there. Thank you for the video! I am also a retired truck driver but ran regional in Illinois.
These videos take a nostalgic "trip" back in time. the love affair with trucks started at age maybe 4 or 5. Started driving professionally at 15 and it ended at 53. There is still "oil in the joints and diesel in the blood."
As an armchair traveler in New Zealand I really enjoy your videos & commentary but none more so than this one. I love to be out driving in the back country & I absolutely loved riding along with you on this one, this scenery is fabulous. Thanks for taking us along with you.
Very well done video. You took out enough of the boring to keep a boring road interesting. Your intelligent commentary kept things rolling. Very good truck handling skills.
Love your postings and comments. I love seeing what these roads look like before I commit to travel them. I’m retired just seeing this Big country of ours.
I was born and raised in Nevada but have lived outside of the US for most of my adult life. I just love seeing this, there is no place like home, and certainly no place like Nevada.
I don't know why this popped up on my UA-cam- but the title intrigued me and I just watched all 45 minutes. I can't thank you enough for doing this- for a girl back east this did my soul a world of good, but I can't really say why. The space, the sage, the sky, the emptiness...
Thank you for this video; I hope to drive this route some day. I was brought up on family road trips, and last summer, we drove from Texas to Northern California via I-80. There is nothing like the open road!
In 1979 I drove my v.w. bug from Northeastern Ok. on rt. 66, to Las Vegas, and then from Las Vegas to Reno, and then on to Eureka Ca. Each time I stopped for gas I needed to have someone give me a shove so I could pop the clutch and go on my merry way. That little lemon burned a quart of oil every 200 miles. When I was going up hills in New Mexico I had to shift down to 2nd gear, what a fun trip lol.
I love how you pronounce "Robertos Burrito restaurant " I appreciate you 😇👋😊👌🙏😇 God Bless You and I love this video .I want to buy later on a small humble little house in hwy 50 Nevada, this desert fascinates me .😊👌🌻🌻
Thank you for sharing this video with us all. It brought fond memories of days gone by back in the early 80's. I was stationed at NAS Fallon Nevada and we loved driving US 50 east of town exploring the old ghost towns. Probably one of the most peaceful stretches of road anywhere
I remember driving through Kalispell by myself at night and feeling like I was gonna fly right off the planet, it was so still, high, and desolate. And the highways without a speed limit.😁
Don Quijote sin mancha In my opinion they look far way better (I've never actually been on an American freeway). They are larger and look well kept. In Italy, and in Europe in general, the majority of freeways have only two or three lanes tops and are narrower than the American ones. The only thing I never saw in all the videos I watch from USA are freeways with draining asphalt. The majority of freeways in the north of Italy have that kind of asphalt and even when it rains a lot they remain dry. As far as highways we don't have that many and they are usually in the proximity of big cities. The only big difference between USA and Europe is the speed limit. On freeways in Italy the speed limit is almost 81 miles per hour for cars and 62 for trucks (our government is thinking about raising it to 93 mph) in Germany, however, as far as I know, there's no speed limit. Unfortunately I've never made a trip through your beautiful country, I've only been in San Francisco, Los Angeles and a bunch of times in New York. I hope, one day, to be able to take one.
You are more than welcome to drive a truck in the United States... I have been driving all over the country for 10 years now and I love it so far. I also record some of my trips for my own memories and for the public.
@@Lela68-theItaliangorl 70% of the Autobahn has no speed limit. America does have the most comprehensive high speed road network in the world, though the fastest legal speed is 85mph in a small section of Texas. President Dwight Eisenhower, as a young Army officer, made the trip from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco, over 3,200 miles, in 62 days. He developed a strong support for building roadways throughout America, and when in Germany after World War 2, the Autobahn road system impressed him greatly. When Eisenhower became President, his administration started the Interstate Highway System, which has nearly 50,000 miles of roads. And Lela, thanks for your compliment. As we all know, Italy has some of the most beautiful scenery and history in the world.
Beautiful country right there. Brings back memories when I dated a girl in Reno. I would drive from Chicago to Reno and take those roads. Winnemucca was a trip to see at night. Think I might have to take a ride on 50 someday .
Thanks for sharing. Miss those vast views in Nevada! Lived in CALI for almost 30 years so Hwy 50 was driven a lot! Especially the Mtn passes in and out of Lake Tahoe, God’s Country! 👍😁
This took me back 40 years in time. How I miss living in that area... Nevada is so beautiful, so majestic. My old stomping grounds are, I assume, in Part 2...
Sorry, man. From Nebraska, I-80 is a four lane interstate and has bigger towns on it all the way through Nebraska. Not nearly as desolate is this. There is a reason they tested nukes in Nevada.
My girlfriend at the time (my wife now) and I drive this road from Salina. UT to almost Reno, NV back in 1989... with maps, no cell phones no GPS. very interesting drive.
You're Truck Traveling Videos are Amazing & i ❤ Nevada state it's Beautiful There. When i watch the Truck Drivers Videos i pretend i am a passenger in the seat enjoying the ride & watching each city and town i encounter. You're Videos were in my recommend feed. Nevada is Beautiful especially The Mountains with The Snow on them
I drove this road in 1996 coming from Jackson Hole and going to Lake Tahoe. Beautiful drive,no traffic and smooth road.Watch out for the sheriff in Eureka. He Followed me in chevy camaro for about 10 miles when going into Eureka. Pulled me over and gave me a ticket for driving in the center part of the road at times. Not for speeding which he was hoping for.Stayed in the Parsonage cottage in Eureka and bought my "Lonliest Road in America" tee shirt in a grocery store in the next town of Austin. Fabulous drive and getting stopped in Eureka in the middle of nowhere. (eye opener),paid my fine there..and would love to drive 50 again..Parsonage cottage part of an old church,no longer there,,what an awesome memory...never to be forgotten By the way great video and brought me back to 1996
So happy I found your channel❤️ I’m from London and all my life wanted to travel these roads in America hopefully one day I would love to Experience those beautiful open roads and especially at night your so lucky love from London uk
Have just found your channel and am enjoying immensely riding with you. Cannot believe how relaxing it is sitting in the cab and watching the lonely road slide past.
Back in the '80s a friend and me were driving from Crested Butte to SFO when I threw a rod on HWY 50 outside Baker, NV. Caught a ride into Baker where we met a couple women, played pool and drank beer until we got kicked out of the bar. Long story, but ended up towing the car by rope into Ely where a junkyard gave me 20 bucks for the car. .. Good times.. Lol
Loneliest highway in America; also one of the most beautiful highways in America. Nothing but Eye Candy down those stunning sight lines. Wouldn't mind a French cafe or two, though. Good job, bro.
Hi Mike I like your videos very much I am a trucker myself but in the Netherlands in Europe and don't do big trips no more but I have done some here in Europe only western countries. I really enjoy your routes keep on trucking!!
wife and I have done alot of riding on our bike thru Nevada. thanks for the ride, only part we haven't rode our bike. it was to far between fuel stops. spent the night in Ely then rode down to Vegas. went from st George utah to Ely then over to tonapah. pretty land. thanks for ride.
Thank you so much for this video!! I'm new to your channel. I love it. Your giving me the chance to see the West. My husband passed away before we could travel. Safe travels my new friend!
This took me back in time as well. I took that way from Utah to Reno once in 1987 with a load of louis lamour books to Hayward. What a great adventure it was.
Thank you for the video!! Bring back so much memories from the 90"s when I used to live in California, Now in England, can't drive here, roads are tiny and so many rules!!
Next time you go through there stop in at Middlegate Jct. 45min east of Fallon at hwy50 & 361. Excellent burgers and nice people. Used to be a pony express stop if I remember right.
I remember driving with my mom and dad when the interstate system was not even a dream. All two lane roads with very little traffic, this is what it was like. Wow, memories. Thanks Mike.
The best truck driving videos I have watched . Very informative and relaxing narrative. Thank you. Liked and sub.. I have driven highway 50 more than once. Love it.
I don't get it either way all these truckers load up on the pallets in the loves only thing I got to think about it cuz they got free shower credits I don't mind going to those independent truck stops at least you know you're not going to hit when you're when you're sleeping cuz there's a plenty of parking
wow, been on this highway back in 1982. Did it in a semi, needed to make time and the miles was less so i took it. wow vowed i will never do that again. Thanks for showing it.
In 1974, I was driving on Highway 50 from Reno to Ely, where I was working on an oil crew and was hit head-on by a Honda 750 motorcycle who had come over into my lane. It was on the the stretch about halfway between Austin and Eureka and it took about a half hour for the next car to show up. The driver stopped and I sent him on to Eureka to call 911 (This was before cell phones) as I gave the motorcycle driver first aid....mouth-to-mouth...etc. It took two hours for the ambulance to get there from Ely...the whole time I had Stevie Wonder playing on my 8-track. I still can't listen to Stevie Wonder.
@Dez Perkins He was an 18 army soldier and they helicoptered him to the VA hospital in Salt Lake. I checked in with the Ely police a couple of times to check on him...he was in a coma...and then, his dad...an FBI agent from Washington...turned up on my doorstep. He said he had a witness..some old prospector...who saw me lure him into my lane before I deliberately hit him. He ended up filing a lawsuit against the bank that had the car loan on my VW bus...and I stopped checking on him. I'm assuming he died. It was on one of those 25 mph hairpin turns and his speedometer was frozen at 75. The impact was so hard that it stripped the sparkplugs out of the block of his bike.
Love the video. I'm a closet truck driver so I love the sound and the view from on high. In one of my other lives, I woulda been a truck driver. I've been on the 50 if only for a short drive, going from Ely to Las Vegas. I wanted to see something other than I-15 which I've seen many times. One of my bucket list items (sort of) is driving the 50 coast to coast. Keep the videos coming. Good job, not too much talking, just enough.
I recommend passing through the eastern side of Nevada at night, with a new moon/no clouds. Drop dead gorgeous starry night, where if I wanted to I could kill the lights and still see the road. I started from the Utah side, with it's god forsaken canyon country that can kill a horse and wound up escaping the clutches of the desert into the uncommon entrance to Yosemite [Tuolomne meadows] and all its beauty. Just one advice: never drive past a gas station without filling up between Fallon and the Utah line. I think I had to park it in Ely and wait for their gas station to open up as I arrived nearly 4 hours before they did business... but it's been a long time.
I drove this road 40 years ago going the other way - Sacramento to Denver. If you think it is lonely now you should have seen it then. In the entire trip I only saw two cars and one semi until almost half way through Utah. Nights were beautiful as you say but the coyotes kept me awake!
Hello sir, just wanted to say thank you so very much for posting this, I have never been out to this area before so now from your perspective I am finially able to see what Ely looks like, I dont know if you are much of a bicycle rider or not, but since you were traveling on Highway 50, just wanted to let you know that we have a bicycle tour every year, which is called the O.A.T.B.R.A.N. which actually stands for One Awesome Tour Bike Ride Across Nevada, and the way it works is, is a span a several days or whatever, all of the riders start at the Casinos in Lake Tahoe, then this is just the first day of the ride, but if you have ever been to tahoe before, they start in tahoe, they go up and over the top of Spooner Summit which is highway 50 East, come back down the other side, ride all the way through carson City, catch Highhway 50 again, and take that all the way to Fallon, aznd thats where they stop for the first night, and all throughout the rest of the days, they ride Highway 50 East all the way to the NEvada Border, talk about one heck of a bike ride..LOL, thanks again for the fantastic tour of Highway 50....
I drove the 1500 mile Alaska Highway back in the 70s, long before it was paved - and believe it or not, there was far more truck traffic up there than I've seen here. I suppose that's because it was the one and only highway route to the entire state. Just as lonely up there back then, though, no houses whatsoever, a highway maintenance camp every two or three hundred miles.
Hi Mike Loved the video. Was admiring your zoom lens on whatever camera your using. I have a 1080 car cam which is great but no zoom or ability to rotate while driving. I drive on many similar lonely roads here in Western Australia when heading north from Perth to the mining country in the north wedt. I love the peace & quiet when pulled over under the milky way. Nothing beats it. So, here I am at the other side of the globe. Just goes to show you how similar all us humans are. Love watchin your trump kickin ass in the swamp. Cheers
Greetings driver, Iam a new subscriber to your youtube channel and I enjoy your videos specially with sight seeing back roads showing towns and farms. I wish if you number the videos sequence so we keep track of old and new.
I like that you show the scenery as you narrate the story, instead of showing your mug in every shot like some guys. Very well done. I love driving the un-congested highways of the American West. Took the train from Kingman AZ to Chicago which was also a good trip of wide open spaces and no traffic! LOL
Had to chuckle at your Cadillac comment. Have been boating in the Puget Sound for the last 7 years but selling the boat this year. Bought a 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham with 24K miles on it to travel this EXACT type of road! So look forward to that this year!
Yes! Yhis is exactly the kind of mountain truck-driving i 've been looking for, it's fun to watch! Just like being behind the steering wheel of a big rig! Thanx...safe driving@
We have lived in Fallon, Nevada for 27 years US 50 runs right through middle of town. Have made the trip to Ely and back many times. Right at 33:33 and then again at 35:10 are just a couple of the views you see her all the time. Love the wide open plains and the big sky wall to wall. Welcome to NevADa. :)
Nothing lonely about this highway. Plenty to look at and think about. Thanks for not destroying this fine video with music.
pgnandt, Love the commentary with no music just the sound of that wonderful diesel!
Totally agree, that was a great peaceful ride.
Nothing but love
For those of us who live in the crowded east among so many willfully ignorant people,, the sight of an open and empty road is therapeutic.

same here in Germany, the highways are so crowded that I don't even drive anymore. I would love to drive there!

Try train trips. I love the ones with CAB VIEWS..... 👍👍♥️

Thanks for the ride. It sure is nice to be able to just get out and go without being swamped with traffic and people. Plus the scenery is beautiful.
Thank you for the video!! Bring back so much memories from the 90"s when I used to live in California, Now in England, can't drive here, roads are tiny and so many rules!!
I love this kind of roads and the mountain roads you drive they are great, brings back fond memories.
I can appreciate a video that doesnt show a pilot truck stop every 3 minutes. I thank you for that. Great ride.
Next time you go through there stop in at Middlegate Jct. 45min east of Fallon at hwy50 & 361. Excellent burgers and nice people. Used to be a pony express stop if I remember right.
Thanks for posting love truck driver ride alongs
Thanks for the ride down 50! 70 mph on a narrow two lane, don't see that often. great views.
It is a pleasure riding along with ya, bruddah. Places that I had hoped to see, but did not get to. Thanks.
I remember driving with my mom and dad when the interstate system was not even a dream. All two lane roads with very little traffic, this is what it was like. Wow, memories. Thanks Mike.
Hello driver. I’m new to the channel. Love the vids 👍
This is my route from Merced to Denver on my Harley.
I've always been curious about this stretch. Great videos on it! Alex and Linda
Fantastic views that engine sound is so refreshing thanks for this nice video
wow, been on this highway back in 1982.
@@1pulpster what does that even mean? Lure someone into your lane? Doesn't make a lick of sense.... Hope you didn't get stuck with any liability
Steve Workman .......they must have had much better drugs in the 70s
@@1pulpster Wow abuse of power to protect his son from liability. Too bad dash cams didn't exist back then.
Watched this on my big screen tv. It’s great . Thanks!
Thanks for the ride Mike.
It is more of a pleasure with the change of CAMERA angle.
You have a very relaxing voice. 😀
Just found your channel . Amazing ty . great views. BEUGHTIFUL . WOW
Peaceful drive. Sometimes peaceful gets boring. Enjoyed the drive. Keep the sunny side up and stay safe.
Man that's beautiful country out there. Thanks for sharing.
I've stayed at the Ramada on HWY93 and ate across the street at La Fiesta. Cool little town. HWY 50 is a great drive!
Thank You so much for the video I love to see
Places
Anytime Katy.. and thanks for watching ☮️
Beautiful ride. I was actually on same road the next week, May 4th, 2019
Hi Mike
Loved the video.
Cheers
What a spectacular road. Great drive, thanks.
Awesome. Gonna have to check that route out. Thanks for sharing!
LOL
I lived in Eureka and worked at Ruby Hill gold mine and Atlas gold bar when I lived there. It is a lonely road that's for sure.
Highway 50 through West VA. is amazing.
My son is right now near Ely at a RV Park. He too talked about the fact that you can see the Milkyway at night.
Great video, it was nice to not have any background music 👍
First time I've come across this. Nice, tks for the effort to share.
I paralleled a Greyhound Bus in Sparks, NV. One shot and nailed it! Makes you feel humble with passengers on board.
