Been down this highway several times working for uship. Desolate and beautiful plus I found it peaceful having zero traffic to battle. Drove it on moonless night heading east and the stars were magnificent. Safe travels.
I've been on highway 50, it's really dark with hardly any traffic and sometimes when you go over a pass with trees, you'll more likely see eyes glowing from behind a tree.
Great Basin National Park, just to the west of the border, has been designated as an international dark sky park. The National Park Service claims it has the best view of the Milky Way in the lower 48 states. Wish my wife and I had enough time to check it out when we visited Lehman Cave.
My wife and I went down Hwy 50 back during the pseduo gas shortage of the 70's. I drove more than one hundred miles without seeing another car or truck. It was wonderful.
As you get older the sleepiness after eating is common. I am 79 and rolled 670 miles IN HOME last September, didn't eat all day. Just snacks and coffee. I knew what would happen if i ate a full meal.
I drove that highway a bunch of times when I was working on the construction of those windmills. We stayed in Ely and drove out every day. Thanks for the views.
Wonderful! Although I'm a Londoner I've driven the whole of Highway 50, Ocean City to Sacramento also Highway 1 Fort Kent to Key West...gotta luv a USA Roadtrip!!
I live in Reno and go deer and antelope hunting around Austin, NV. I had to laugh when you noticed a road in the distance and wanted to see what was up there. I do that all the time. I drove the dirt road from Austin to Tonopah once. Cant wait to do it again 100 miles of dirt. I just watched an hour of Hwy 50 driving. I love that drive. Thank you.
Watching your video makes you feel like your riding in the truck and seeing the countryside. I've never see that part of the country so it's very fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
Always fun to see the roads I once traveled again. I did them much like you except in a service van. This was before cell phones, so one had to be prepared for anything and usually take care of it by yourself. First took Hwy 50 in a U-Haul heading East and I was on fumes. Thrilling!
Perhaps its impertinent, but a ask my self this morning watching your long road movie how many people like, loves mike in the right sense of course. I think a lot an well over the world . How many can say that. We enjoy you Mike keep it safe respect, from the Netherlands.
I used to haul corn to a ranch at Baker NV. it was called Baker Ranch . You can see it from Hiway 50 straight east of Baker about a mile.I hauled it from Greeley Co.
You are right about I-80 Mike. That freeway is so heavily travelled and has a lot of ruts in the right lane. As you know, Donner pass can be a pain during storms too. Thanks for sharing vids with us!
Good old hiway 50 enjoyed it as much as the last time. Seems like a good smooth road, not too many rough spots. Scenery is certainly beautiful. Hope you have a safe trip rest of the way. Thank you for the ride. Edward
The first time I went through Austin Nevada was 1981 and it stuck with me because the way it's built on the side of the highway the last time I went through that town was 93 thanks for the ride along
What a wonderful place to see. Thanks for taking me along. I was wondering do you ever get sleepy on a road like that? Well got my answer you take a nap. God Bless you and your family safe travels. Thanks for a nice quite drive. Love your channel.♥️🇺🇸🤩
I drove my semi all the way from Idaho Falls to Las Vegas on Hwy 93, just as lonely and scary in the night time, too many narrows and curves, I was glad when it was over, don't want to do it again though!
Great video, amazing contrasts of views. Those mountain views just mesmerising but I don't envy you those long, long straight roads regarding maintaining vigilance, respect to you.
Thanks for the videos. Thanks for allowing me to ride shotgun. I'm from Fairbanks Alaska and have never had a CDL or driven freight but I've spent a lot of time on the rode in Alaska, Canada, and the Lower 48. I'm 76 and really enjoy your videos. Thanks also, for keeping away from political comments.
Very interesting scenery and terrain. Thanks for sharing it. Also you've been so positive about Utah and nice to us in comments about our state. Much appreciated.
Nice ride, isn't it? You are an able driver too! Very dangerous roads but amazing views at all, anyway I enjoy sightseeings that you show us,thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the ride. I imagine you are the driver of that semi that past the man walking along a dusty Winnemuca road while toting a high top canvas covered load. You stopped and the song was written. Be safe.
@@ridingshotgun1251 I sit, entranced, by your videos. The good Lord, in all his wisdom, made a gorgeous planet for us to be on for a short while. Its Helen...Another great shotgun ride with you is a pleasure anytime...love riding along with you. Thanks for taking of your time to take us all through those little towns...almost felt like I was back in time...really cool...Thanks Mike
Middle of nowhere works for me every time. I'll be in Nevada and Arizona in about a week for camping/kayaking fun !! My 13th year of paid retirement.....Awesome!!
I took a drive from Sacramento to Baker and back via US-50 just to experience it probably 4-5 months before this video was taken. Such an enjoyable experience!
Drove that road in 1969 in my 54 hemi New Yorker..... never under ninety mph..... mostly in the three digits..... my misspent youth..... thanks for the memories
Thank you very much! I kind of had it on my bucket list, to drive down one of these fantastic highways in America. Now I've seen it. Where I live, one cannot drive a single mile without seeing at least a farm and not for more than ten minutes to reach the next village or a city. Thank you very much for the ride!
I am watching your video now. My internet off for a day or two. I wanted to share (I guess UA-cam don't allow that) a pic I took of our traffic jam today headed into Napa, CA. There was two beautiful balloons showing up in the sky.....well I guess someone got distracted watching this....not good. Now seeing Eureka, NV....what a cute town. Back at you later after viewing rest.
Has anyone else seen the lady in a dress walking the fog line at night at Sacramento Pass Highway50? I'd swear she went right through my fender without flinching on a snowy night. I'll never forget it. 👻
Where this video starts out going through the cut in the rocks I think that is at the top of the hill near the UT-NV state line. One night late in the winter I had a small herd of Elk cross the hiway in front of me and it scared the crap out of me but it sure woke me up.
Just take lots of food, water and warm blankets with you. By the morning when it's light someone will pass and you can flag them down. 50 is quiet but someone will eventually pass by.
It's a good idea to get off the road before sunset. There's no point in rushing through it and driving into the night. You can't see and enjoy the views after dark, and starting about dusk and continuing into the night is when your risk of hitting a deer or something larger increase substantially . I've also seen elk out there and free range cattle along the roadside and actually in the roadway, and you really don't want to hit either of those. Take your time, plan on hitting a town and a motel by about dusk, and enjoy a relaxing drive. An auto club membership and cell phone is a good idea too. I didn't pay much attention to my phone when I made that trip by motorcycle but, depending on your carrier, I don't think there are many places along US 50 in Nevada these days that that you wouldn't have cell service and a town with roadside assistance within reasonable distance.

So many of the roads you do I have been lucky enough to ride but there is a hell of a lot I havn't. Great videos. Thanks Mike enjoyed the mountains snow made them really stand out. And of course your Mexican over drive good conversation. All ways enjoy the old towns. Thanks again.
Another great video. Beautiful country and love hearing your stories. Being drowsy after eating?? Maybe too many carbs will make you sleepy. Just a thought. Be safe and healthy. 👍
I have driven this road to far East as Eureka. On my simulator, I have flown it's entire length. It starts from Sacramento and terminates on the Atlantic. I am on that flight "US 50". I am just East of St Louis East Bound. I fly with the auto pilot set for 2000 feet above the ground. I tweak the heading bug to stay on track. And there is Old 66. It has been paved over by the Interstates. I think of "The Grapes of Wrath" and how many bones that were dug up.
OMG Mike, when you were going through that old town, I was riding shotgun, so on my left did you see the hitching post for the horses? Wow what a ride.
