I second all the votes for "Dancing on the Ceiling", as well as his immortal duet with Diana Ross, "Endless Love". But this is just the beginning of your Lionel journey. "Say You, Say Me" is a classic, as is "Running With the Night". Fun fact - this video was produced by Michael Nesmith of the Monkees!
Guys, THIS SONG just so happened to be the theme song of the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles that year; Richie performed it with a huge crew of dancers for the closing ceremonies. Sometimes it helps to be old(er) with a good memory.
That performance ran on, not for the planned 15 minutes, but over an hour! It started the tradition of having a party for the Olympic athletes at the last act of the closing ceremonies.
I remember that closing ceremony performance, it started with a giant flying saucer hovering over over the L.A. Memorial Coliseum, as the space aliens made contact to find out what this Olympic "party" was all about. It ended with several hundred break dancers performing on the field to this song. A television spectacle seen by millions around the world, and helped make this a worldwide hit, one of the biggest of 1983-84.
I was going to mention that. I remember that performance like it was last week. Felt like it would go on All Night Long -- the best arty ever in sports. By the way, that Olympic performance was the first-ever public performance of this song-- he saved it for that night..
When music was great When music was positive When music was innocent When music touched your heart ❤️ When music touched your soul When music made you smile When music made you feel like falling in love
I was born in 1955 in Alabama, so I graduated high school in 1974. Loved the Commodores and Lionel Richie's music. But after hearing part of his story, I really admire him as a person. One of his band members (and his girlfriend) had a real problem with drugs. Lionel and his wife offered to take care of their daughter until they could get clean and back on their feet. From what I understand, that never happened and after a couple of years they legally adopted the little girl. I don't know if you have ever heard of her. Her name is Nicole Richie.
He did this during the closing celebrations of the Olympics years ago. With all the athletes of all the countries celebrating together. It was inspiring.
He sang this until you were like whoa!!! The athletes were partying like nobody's business! At the end it was "top this for a closing ceremony" I dare you!
I vote for "Stuck on You". How can they resist listening to Lionel singing a country song he wrote? But yeah, "Running with the Night" is awesome, too.
I love Lionel with The Commodores that’s that 70s groove I always talking about, a decade with great music from various genres and we connected to most of them
Wife here..When my Husband and I hear this we talk about the joy of growing up in the eighties.., going to the record bar to get AMAZING songs like this..One.. of both of our first "records"..!!..Stunning in soooo many ways!!
A little over a year ago, I stumbled upon reaction videos, and found Jay by himself. Growing up in the 80s, I am convinced it's THE best music, artists, movies and overall entertainment of any generation, and I actually stumbled across Jay's reactions while watching videos on UA-cam for the nostalgia of it. I found myself coming home after work, watching your reactions. Adding Amber took it a notch higher, because her emotional and genuine reactions add to what many of us who have loved this music for years is feeling...it's like sharing a genuine part of who we are with you guys. I still come home from work, sit down, and watch you guys experience a piece of myself, my heart, and who I am...it's truly a joy. Thank you Jay for also sharing yourself, your beautiful wife and kids with us. You named it correctly...cause after sharing so much of myself with you day in and day out, you guys truly are family. Much love from Dublin, Georgia.
Another one of Lionel’s greatest hits was the 1985 song “Say you, say me” written for the film “White Night” which starred two legendary dancers, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines. It went number one on the pop and r&b charts. Definitely should be on your list!
People forget or just don't know how great and talented this man is and how BIG he was in the 70's & 80's. One of the greatest songwriters ever and he can play almost any instrument you please. Guitar, drums, bass, piano, horns, you name it.
Back in this time (70's & 80's) my family always listened to Casey Kasem's American Top 40. It was always exciting waiting for our favorite songs & finding out where they are on the singles chart. I remember when this one hit #1. It was getting close, and I said to my sisters, "I think #1 is that song that says "Fiestsa Forever!" 😅

Oh, gosh, when that little girl came out and you guys loved that so much, y'all made my eyes get all leaky. You two are just so sweet!! I bet your moms are so proud and happy! Being a child of the 80’s I’ve probably heard this song thousands of times, but your reaction reminded me how huge this was, how fun it was… it represents the 80’s so well, and for the first time in 40 years it made me tear up and gave me chills.
He was at the zenith of his career where every song just hit the heights. The most important thing about this song, and the others of this period, is that it has stood the test of time. Still so good in every way.
I was living on South Padre Island when this hit the charts. I would walk my dog around midnight and this song would be blasting from every balcony! I was impossible not to dance to the beat.
"I just couldn't find the ending - I couldn't find all night long to save my life. I had everything, the verses, the middle part, all the stuff. I just did not have all night long. It took me forever to find it. And finally one night, the heavens opened up and came through." Lionel Ritchie.
My first introduction to this song was Lionel performing at the end of the 1984 Summer Olympics closing ceremony in Los Angeles. Literally an international party that seemed to last "all night long".
A few of my favorite Lionel Richie songs that I'd recommend are: "Penny Lover," "Running with the Night," and "Stuck on You." I also love "Oh No" from the Commodores.
Lionel Ritchie performed "All Night Long" at the closing ceremonies of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. All the athletes we dancing and everyone was having a great time. It was an amazing way to close out the ceremonies. It was such a joyous night. One of the best closing ceremonies I had ever seen!
This is from his monster album "Can't Slow Down." This album competed for the number 1 spot back & forth with Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album for months. The whole album is awesome
Lionel Richie is such a great performer! I saw him in concert 3 years ago before the pandemic hit. He interacts with the audience a whole lot. Probably one of the best shows I’ve seen.
Aww you guys are so sweet, we love you guys too and this song ABSOLUTELY embodies this channel- the joy, the fun, the emotion that we all feel with music.
Always loved the Latin flare in this song from the percussion and brass to the bold bright colors... But those things also span other cultures as well. We got a little Island sound as well as some African influence too. Fun song and great reaction.
Lionel Richie sang this song at the opening ceremonies of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. There were numerous moments from those opening ceremonies that gave me goosebumps, but seeing all of the athletes from all over the world dancing and enjoying this song was absolutely beautiful.
This song literally never gets old - every time I hear it I groove as much as I did when it came out. It is hard to tell you where you may have heard it because it was so well known it could have been multiple places, on tv, in the grocery store, etc.
This is my all time favourite Lionel Richie song from I think 1982, I think we had the best music 60s to the nineties. And love the fact you lovely couple appreciate the great music we enjoyed back then.❤❤❤.
I'm a white girl from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and met a neighbor while walking down a huge hill in my area he was from Africa i recognized his accent and said jambo (not spelled correctly) he was SHOCKED i knew his language it's all because of this song...
"All Night Long (All Night)" (1983) was Lionel Richie's 5th Billboard Hot 100 single peaking @ #1 for 4 weeks. It was his 3rd #1 as a solo artist after leaving The Commodores. "Endless Love" w/ Diana Ross & "Truly" preceded it @ #1. The record also peaked @ #1 on the R&B/Soul chart for 7 weeks & hit #5 on the Dance chart. "All Night Long (All Night)" was Grammy nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Male Pop Vocal, Best Instrumental Arrangement Supporting Vocals & Best Producer.
(4:32) "Man! This is so human!" 😄 You're so right, Amber. There's a beautiful humanity about "All Night Long"---the song and the video. In 1983 the song went to #1 in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and South Africa.🌎
This is one of my faves by Lionel Richie, followed closely by “You Are,” “Dancing On The Ceiling,” and “Say You, Say Me.” He is such an 80s icon, always on the radio and his music was always enjoyable.
OMG I saw him open for Tina Turner sometime in the early to mid nineties and what a show. His hair was closely cropped at the time but for one of his Commodores songs, he donned a huge Afro wig and just brought the house down! Such a huge talent and entertainer.
Love to see how you come alive to music. Your discovery of new sounds touches the heart. How lucky are we to have so many different genre’s of music? Music to fit every mood!
"Endless Love" - Lionel Richie and Diana Ross teamed up to produce what is easily in the top 5 of pop song duets of all time, if not the best ever. I highly recommend reacting to that song. In my estimation Richie is like Elvis and Billy Joel - A ton of hit songs, or even lesser known songs, you can review and get plenty of views. The number of quality songs Richie made/sang lead for from the 70s-80s is rivaled by very few singers. I have more personal favorites from ELO, John Denver, Marvin Gaye, The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, Sam Cooke, The Platters, and Dion and the Belmonts, but I can easily listen to almost any Lionel Richie song at any time with no gripes and it'll brighten my day. And, at the moment, I really can't think of another artist/group who offers as much of a sure thing.
Richard Marx "Right here Waiting" does the backing vocals on this song. Could you react to another Richard Marx song? "Satisfied" is a great song and his song "Hazard" is an amazing story telling song
Even though, usually, I listen to a completely different type of music, I must admit this song brings joy and love, and the video shows how we, just humans, not white, not black, not yellow, but just simply humans, can have fun together without prejudice and hate. :-)
Thanks for doing this song guys. As a drummer and music lover for over 40 years, 3 years, this is one of my favorite songs of all time! what a wonderful world beat song. How do you not fall in love with it from the 1st time you hear it? So much intementation. Percussion. Strings. Horns. Yet it is still uncluttered and breathes. Shout out to other viewers for mentioning other great Lionel songs.
This man is a legendary and iconic person of all times had many great hits such as SAY YOU, SAY ME, HELLO, ENDLESS LOVE what a man he desrves to be inducted in the hall of fame
This song was one of the songs that made the summer of 1984 so great. Lionel is the man! You have to react to "Say You, Say Me". It has very inspiring lyrics. Another one of my favourites by Lionel is Running With The Night".
I’ve seen so many different people, regardless of age, what kind of music they’re usually into, or anything like that, light up with a smile when this song is played because, as you say, it’s so human, and that’s what we all are. I’m glad to now see that smile on your faces, too. There are obviously still too many who need to figure out that we can all be different while recognizing the fact that we’re not really _that_ different.
This song represents what the 80s was all about. Everybody came together and was one big family because of music. Music crossed all barriers and brought everyone together
Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. Love Lionel. He actually did an interview recently they played it one Sunday morning ch. 2 on FIOS. He talked about his career. My mom watched mostly all of it. I only heard snippets. But he came from a family of doctor's and layers smart people. And he told them he joined a band and wanted to do music. Lol. The whole neighborhood gave him looks. His family were not pleased. But look at all the things he accomplished. He changed the music industry for the better. Hugs. -NY USA BTS Army💜
Yes!! Been waiting a long time for this one. One of his best. PLEASE do the video for Dancing on The Ceiling next - it's another party song - and yes they actually all dance on the ceiling. The video is a TRIP. You guys will LOVE it!!
Lionel Ritchie is so talented. His songs are all so beautifully written. He has an album called Tuskegee where he has duets that I think you'd enjoy. Stuck on You... Darius Rucker My Love... Kenny Chesney Hello...Jennifer Nettles Just to name a few. And we wouldn't have had Kenny Roger's singing "Lady" without Lionel's bounty of number 1 songs he wrote. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
This song to me represented everything the 80's was. The music, the colors , the dancing, the positive and upbeat sound. And I don't care what the media says, the races DID get along then and very well. You didn't have the tension you see today, in large part because of the music. It makes me tear up too. This is who we were in our prime. So much life and energy back then. The times, the atmosphere. So much is lost, so much gone. And your face Amber when the African dancers come out. Pure joy. It made us feel the same. Everybody's twirling and moving smoothly and then those guys just come out and just bounce and snap. Always loved that part.

I forgot about Endless Love!!! thank you so much for reminding me
This has always been one my all-time favorite Lionel Riichie songs. Makes me smile, and want to dance, and lifts my heart every time I hear it.😀❤
Check out Debarge- rhythm of the night! It gives out the same vibe as this song!!
I just love Lionel Richie. He has written so many songs that everyone can enjoy. His songs have been used it so many movies too.
Love this song. You should now react to Janet Jackson "When I Think of You." That video has the same feel as "All Night Long."
It wouldn't have been the 80's without Lionel Richie. X)
Richard Marx "Right here Waiting" does the backing vocals on this song. Could you react to another Richard Marx song? "Satisfied" is a great song and his song "Hazard" is an amazing story telling song
There is more from Lionel yet. Fantastic artist. Dancing on the ceiling, Stuck on you, Say You say me. These are all awesome
Endless Love -Lionel’s masterpiece duet with Diana Ross next please!
Such an underrated talent. The man is a music machine.
Even though, usually, I listen to a completely different type of music, I must admit this song brings joy and love, and the video shows how we, just humans, not white, not black, not yellow, but just simply humans, can have fun together without prejudice and hate. :-)
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for doing this song guys. As a drummer and music lover for over 40 years, 3 years, this is one of my favorite songs of all time! what a wonderful world beat song. How do you not fall in love with it from the 1st time you hear it? So much intementation. Percussion. Strings. Horns. Yet it is still uncluttered and breathes. Shout out to other viewers for mentioning other great Lionel songs.
Please please please react to more Foo Fighters! You don't understand the greatness you're missing out on
Lionel has always been one of my favorites. Great singer great voice.
Yes, variety is the spice of life, lol! Love Lionel Richie, so incredibly talented. Thanks Amber and Jay!
🤩 wow, I had forgotten how beautiful this video was!! ❤️Lionel Richie is one of a kind 👏🏻🎼❤️
Lionel Ritchie’s song “ Dancing On The Ceiling “ is such a fun song too..
Well we love you too❤️ I love all night long. He also has another dancing on the ceiling and that’s a great one too.
Timeless song here tbh. You could play this in any club and folks would dance!!!
One of my fave Lionel.Richie tunes is a lesser known one called Ballerina Girl. He wrote it about his daughter and it is just gorgeous.
My fav Lionel Richie! He is so cool. Such a sweet man.
Amber already has a gorgeous and infectious smile just sitting there. But when she gets into a song her smile widens and her eyes light up!!
Great Lionel Richie song....I also love Dancing on the Ceiling.
Oh THANK! Your delight in the celebration of all peoples coming together makes my heart smile! Bless you.
Lionel Ritchie is so talented. His songs are all so beautifully written. He has an album called Tuskegee where he has duets that I think you'd enjoy.
Stuck on You... Darius Rucker
My Love... Kenny Chesney
Hello...Jennifer Nettles
Just to name a few.
Awesome to the Max!

Love Lionel Richie and The Commodores!!! ❤️❤️
