    This has helped me from going into full-blown episodes. As soon as the dizziness hits, I immediately drop to the floor and perform this maneuver. I think it has saved my sanity as well as keeping me out of bed all day.

    question (also thank you for taking time to possibly respond Doctor!) in your experiences does these excersizes (Epley as well) make someone experiencing BPPV feel nauseous to try them ?
    Basically can it be rough going to some degree to follow these movements but the overall benefit is often worth the discomfort? (just experiencing what seems to be BPPV and it's hard to go through with Epley and other movements because it agitates the condition) Thank you again for any light you might shed here

      From my experience when one of these stupid crystals first get out of position. Thats when i have nausea. I also end up freaking out about being dizzy. The nausea could be anxiety caused. I usually have to tell myself that its just the crystals in my ears. Ive actually gone to PT and they put goggles on my head covering my eyes and do these exercises. I usually have to do the exercises two or three times with them and then it seems to stop. I've also determined that for some reason seasonal allergies seems to trigger it every single year.

    How do these exercises shift the ear crystals into correct positions?

    • @StronglifePhysiotherapy
      @StronglifePhysiotherapy  7 місяців тому +2

      Good question! Each head position causes the inner ear crystals to move through the inner ear canals, eventually settling into a place where they don’t cause problems. The movement of the crystals is what causes the dizziness and that’s why people with BPPV feel the spinning when they do this maneuver.

      Yes! The idea is to put them back into place. Sometimes they dissolve. Sometimes they reattach. But it’s possible for them to come back out and cause problems again in which case you repeat this maneuver.

    Dr I tried the eply maneovre almost through up. How can I do your exercises without throwing up. My issues is vertigo while lying flat straight or lying almost flat on my left side.

    • @StronglifePhysiotherapy
      @StronglifePhysiotherapy  Рік тому +2

      Unfortunately many people do throw up when doing the exercise. Some take dramamine, which can be helpful. Some just prepare themselves and have a trash can ready just in case they do throw up. IMO throwing up during the exercise is worth it if you get rid of the vertigo. Most don't end up vomiting though, it just feels like you will. I wish you the best and hope you get relief!

      The best I can understand is that you do it if you’re well or not. I haven’t seen a PT yet, so I’m not sure what ear, or what canal in my middle ears is affected. 🤷🏼‍♀️. (It feels like both to me, I’m so darn dizzy)
      So I tried his exercise last night, used best form and careful timing best as I could.
      Bad idea. 🤦🏻‍♀️. Made things much worse. Feel horrible for 20 hours straight. Can even feel the vertigo during sleep.

      You turn your head to the affected side, if you’re not sure you can do it to one side first and see if it helps, if not you can try the other side.

    Hey doc, idk which side of my ear I have vertigo, so my question was, Is this exercise common for any side of the ears?...or do we have to do an exercise that is specifically done for left and right ?

    • @StronglifePhysiotherapy
      @StronglifePhysiotherapy  Рік тому

      It’s ok to do both sides but it helps to know which side it’s coming from. I made a video on it here: BPPV: How To Tell Which Ear Is Affected

    What canal are you suggesting this treats? Actually this is crazy to me having treated BPPV for years. How do you suggest a pt identify what side or canal is affected? I have had pt's with anterior canal who followed stuff like this and probably started off posterior but ended up unable to walk. This is a no go for me.

    • @StronglifePhysiotherapy
      @StronglifePhysiotherapy  8 місяців тому

      I appreciate your feedback. This treats posterior canal quite effectively with less risk of transitioning to other canals than the Epely maneuver. My experience is that it is a very effective maneuver with minimal risk designed by a neuro-otologist to help people who don't have great access to care. Are you aware of specific cases where this maneuver has caused someone to get worse?

    At the moment am currently dealing with these symptoms. Every time I lay down or even if I slightly move my head up, down or sideways I get really dizzy. I had a head injury back in November and I started to feel these symptoms when I would lay down. the doctor gave me pills to take but never took them because my symptoms went away. On Thursday if when I started to feel them again and hopefully I can get over them.

    • @StronglifePhysiotherapy

      there's no real limit, but some people need some time in between attempts because it will trigger the vertigo. Also, once symptoms clear up there's no need to keep doing it.

    Hey doc . How can I know Wich side to go with my head ?

    • @StronglifePhysiotherapy
      @StronglifePhysiotherapy  Рік тому

      If your vertigo come on when you roll to your right side in bed it's probably your right ear and you would need do that side with the half somersault maneuver. Same thing if it's triggered by going to the left. If you can't tell it's ok to do it on both sides and see which one works. A sign that it's working is that it will trigger the vertigo while you are doing it. Hope that helps, with you the best in getting better!

      It’s unfortunately part of the process sometimes. It’s not actually helpful but just a side effect of triggering the vertigo. Glad you got some relief!
