For all the adulation about their solo abilities Reb and Nuno absolutely changed my playing with their rhythm techniques. I remember reading an interview with Reb back around 1990 (or so - it was in the heyday of Winger) and he said that solos bored him so he went out of his way to make his rhythm playing as unorthodox as possible. He would often rewrite riffs again and again until he was satisfied. At the time I was really obsessed with my solo playing (like a lot of players that first 5-10 years) and that interview really stuck with me. It totally changed my views on the importance of great riffs.
I saw reb beach locally at a clinic when I was a teenager. He did his unique tapping pull technique and what I remember most is I won an ibanez shirt! Haha.
I spent a few years off and on watching his "Cutting Loose" video and other youtube videos, and now that tapping style is sort of second nature to me. But I can't think quickly like how he does it. I kind of have to plan where to go up and down.
Awesome lesson Dave ! I love Reb beach he’s my favorite all time player and you really nailed his licks especially that 3rd lick ! Sounded so smooth just like Reb I’ve attempted to interstate rebs tapping style into my own playing for years and man I tell y the hardest part is being able to play as fluid is Reb does when he taps because if it’s not smooth or clean it sounds awful , but when you nail it it sounds so so nice on the ears it’s like liquid shred almost ! Very hard to replicate and the last lick you threw in is what Rebs probably most known for his ascending tapping runs that are absolutely mind boggling ! Like you said he deffinately has his own way of playing things and never uses his pinky much except for when playing chords or licks , but who cares because what a fantastic player ! Thanks again for all your hard work Dave I’ve been an earlier follower of your channel and you’re second to none in your lessons and unique ability to teach us as well as inform us and give us a little history lesson on each player and group you cover . Best guitar channel on UA-cam rock on Dave !
You held my attention all the way through this video, thank you. So crazy to break down what an enormous influence Reb was on my playing. That incendiary tapping lick right out the gate during the solo for Winger's 'Madalaine' is one of my top tapping moments of all time.
Just wanted to say thanks for everything you do Dave! Your channel got me back into playing guitar when the pandemic first hit, and today I got accepted into AIMM :)
Reb did some really great lessons many, many years ago in one of the guitar magazines. Met him at Musik Messe in Frankfurt in the early 90's after he shredded during a live demo. I told him that I loved his guitar lessons in the magazine and he freaked out because I was a native English speaker. Haha! Cool guy.
Awesome David thank you for everything you have done!! Meet Reb & Nuno in the late 80's at throughbreed music in Tampa Florida. One of my favorites!!!!
David thank you so much, I think it’s incredible the way that you are able to jump around from style to style -all these amazing guitarists …you’re playing their stuff beautifully and also just kind of stoically which is part of your appeal!
I remember there was an article in guitar world or guitar player by Reb Beach and it showed some of his tapping licks, with tab. I, without any other instruction, just hammered away at learning those licks. I remember my buddy Darwin, an accomplished player, asking me to show him something on his guitar, years later. When I pulled out that material his jaw dropped! lol That was hilarious!
Cool david!! I saw Reb with Winger a few times he would be soloing and climb up on cabinets n stuff. Saw him at a clinic at house of guitars round 89-90(??) Loved most of wingers stuff and kip to !!
Thanks Scott! The tabs for most of the lessons on the channel (except for Chordplay) are available for Patreon supporters. It's only $5 a month and you can cancel at anytime. Thanks! : )
Reb is a beast I caught him with Winger last summer at The M3 fest, that dude is a beast, I was also suprirsed at how heavy and tight with how Winger was as a band, Beavis and Butthead did them wrong
Great lesson David…. I see your using a Behringer V-amp..Cool! But how are you getting your audio recorded here? It sounds like a cabinet in the room, but it sounds almost too good for that. Can you explain what your using? Thanks David… And thanks again for all the great content!
Reb is using his 3rd finger on those first tap licks. He has mentioned before that he uses his 3rd finger to help smooth the transition to the next string.
Really enjoying your videos and teaching style Dave! Do you think you could do a lesson on the solo in 'don't believe a word' by Gary Moore? (the slow album version) I'm stumped on that fast run down and up. Thanks man.
2:05 I know it's commonplace for people to blame Beavis and Butthead for the fall of Winger, but besides the fact the genre had hit its expiration date (as happened to every genre at the end of its decade) thanks to the over saturation caused by the watered down bandwagon jumpers being signed by dollar hungry record execs looking for the next this or that, the real joke was missed. Beavis and Butthead were never "cool". The show was great, but the characters were complete morons. Stewart was a smart kid who was way more intelligent than Beavis and Butthead. Winger was a group of smart, educated musicians who wrote great songs and who chicks dug. So the smart kid who got made fun of, liked them. Today, Stewart would be running a company, married, have a summer home, and probably go see Winger on the Monsters of Rock cruise. Beavis and Butthead...well, they wouldn't be any of those things. And they certainly couldn't afford the MOR cruise. Anyone who was making fun of Stewart and Winger when they watched Beavis and Butthead, surprise! You were the butt of the actual joke. Not them. 😂
I've been saying for years that anyone that thinks Winger was terrible because of Beavis and Butt-Head are part of Mike Judge's social experiment known as the Idiocracy. Most look at me with the, "it's got electrolytes" expression. Sheep incapable of independent thought.

Reb's new band Black Swan is killer! thanks David
That 2nd lick reminds me of that arpeggio like wall of sound in the beginning of teenage waste land
Love Reb Beach. Such an underrated player.
David you have one of the best instructional channels on YT. You keep unlocking things for me.
Excellent breakdown of Rebs tapped scaler runs. I finally understand how he did this so cleanly. so many Thanks.
Awesome!! thanks for sharing!!
Big Reb Beach and Winger fan from the very beginning! Very underrated. ; )
Awesome, David! Reb is from my neck of the woods: the Pittsburgh area! We're very proud of him, around here! Thanks! Great Lesson!
Great stuff!
Always good stuff !

That second lick is so beautiful!!!
I met Reb Beach at NAMM. He was very humble and answered any question.
Reb is Awesome! I have three of his signature guitars, one of which is a Koa model, RBM2NT.

awesome video keep it up!

Reb got a lotta flack for his obvious joke about Hendrix tuning his guitar in a Guitar World interview...he's an incredible player!
Rock on!🎸🎸🎸🎸
EVH started using that first tapping pattern on this lesson in 1981 (Fair Warning Tour) during his solo spot.
Outstanding! Thanks for this!
would be cool to see more of Reb’s licks and his signature runs that he does. Good breakdown! Ever consider offering tabs as well?
Thanks Scott! The tabs for most of the lessons on the channel (except for Chordplay) are available for Patreon supporters. It's only $5 a month and you can cancel at anytime.

I love these ideas, David! 😁Do you think we could see a Three For All for Metal Mike Chlasciak of Halford or perhaps Dan Spitz of Anthrax?

Are you going to make a Reb Beach Winger scales licks and solo winger licks ?
Hey Dave. What's your tone coming from? Is it the unit sitting behind you on your left? What is that? Love your channel. Thanks.

Dudes so modest don't ya think 😊
👍
I want me a RB Suhr :-) 10k here in Oz though.

Stewart Stevenson was no dope!
