But the lack of camera optimization on MIUI makes the image most of the time pretty dull and average. Xiaomi can solve it with some software optimizations but as it's Xiaomi we can't expect much bcos they have a reputation of making things worse. I think in this comparison the One Plus 6 camera is well ahead of Mi 8.

Little Kid no Ip68 one plus only has just normal splash resistant no ip rating mi 8 also has splash resistance because last year mi 6 had splash resistance so mi 8 will also have splash resistance but they didn't told but if you dip both phones in water they will die !
there are some tests, the oneplus 6 is less waterproof than the Mi 8. Mi 8 is better underwater and more resistant to everything... its quite a large difference to be honest, Mi 8 is more than splashproof for sure

Matthew Zhang I'd go with the op6. Mostly because of the ois available on both the front and the rear cam and more optimized on the op6. Mi8 took better low light photos, tho clarity wise op6 wins. Op6 is slightly more expensive than MI8 only. I'd top it up. XD

The low light differences between OP6 and Mi8 in the video department tho, wtf the Mi8 camera clearly has better light sensitive. However, the photo differences are not much. Stabilisation in Mi8 is a bit quirky if its too shaky, it still works fine. Oneplus 6 front camera stabilisation looks great indeed. The mic on Oneplus 6 is somehow better, but it is just less sensitive, not with the clearest audio. In the end, it is up to consumers to decide.
I would say that if you could merge the two, the result would be much more satisfactory, for those who like to take a lot of photos, go with the Xiaomi, for those who make a lot of videos, go with the OnePlus, but in some situations in photos on the front camera the oneplus corrects better the brightness.
i prefer oneplus here but i need some help. if i could get the s9 with a price difference of 30$ and s9+ with 130$ more than the oneplus 6 which is a better buy. the s9 4gb ram and smaller screen isn't appealing to me but what about the s9+ ?
This is my personal opinion. I just bought a OP6. It's very good, but for a close price difference between the OP6 and S9+, I would go with the S9+. It has SD card, IP rating (not that it matters mutch), local support (which I hope I'll never need), better camera. Maybe the differences would be OxygenOS vs TouchWiz, (or whatever Samsung calls it's skin now, I think it's a different name), but both are very good.

Oneplus 6 is better in photo and especially video except some occasional shots with wrong exposure. Some shots look way too bright and overexposed. I hope they'll fix it. On Mi8 colors look washed out, video and sound are terrible.

Mi 8 camera look bad (not to bad actually) because of the xiaomi (MIUI) software is still unstable *imo ,maybe if you want to buy mi 8 should have wait for some update software or go to XDA to customize it, but for now OP6 is win ...
Fyi i'm still using my old phone redmi 2 for daily, the camera and software management got better after a few update, maybe it's typical xiaomi phone that has bad software at first launch? Maybe, but after some update actually it's amazing device
