  • The Classic Mini Mk1 Conversion Returns
In this episode we finally get round to the challenging task of fabricating and lowering the rear quarter window roof line on both sides of the shell, this is to accept the 1960’s Mk1 rear quarter opening windows. We also fabricate and make the changes to fit the Mk1 dash switch panel.
So let’s crack on, I hope you enjoy the episode

My first car was a mk1 Mini with the same dash as you showed there. Never needed an oil change - it leaked it out fast enough it was always nearly fresh. I knew when it needed a top up because the oil pressure gauge needle started to swing like a pendulum - dropping low on right hand corners!! Good to see you back!

well done guys, takes me back to when I was your age working on minis, finally got tired of chasing rust and trying to make a silk purse, restorations take a long time and when you've also got to earn a living there aren't enough hours in a day, ask your dad, finally you get tired, fortunately you guys can still work together, cherish this time. 😊😉👍

I am very impressed by this project. Great dedication to detail and massive effort!
Make sure thought that you don't forget to fill the splices, ideally with welding. Where the fwd and aft sidepanels joins at the upper and lower aft door radius. As the the sidepanels on a Mk1 & 2 is a one piece pressing rather than the Mk3 onwards two piece.
Greetings from Sweden / Keep up the good work!

I can remember being able to open both the rear windows from the driver's seat. Perfect for getting some airflow without too much noise.
I have them on my 1991 Land Cruiser but I have to get out and open them through the back doors, so not as convenient but I always think of my beloved Mini when I open them.
Top work as usual. Your Dad was over the moon with the workshop, all the good men love a workshop.

Hi. Nice to see you again. I saw you using the tool to undo your angle grinder to change the disc. Im constantly changing mine, but i found by accident that since the "nut is self tightening you can " hand" tighten it by tightening the disc once the nut has "grabbed". It never slips and then when you want to change the disc dont use the tool, just unwind the disc itself, even the cutoff discs that are ground down will loosen. Just a tip you might like to try to save you some time and never need to use the tool again.
