Pretty much on spot there about the Roman Empire. Another reason for Rome's downfall was that Christianity also became at odds with Rome's own past history. Think about it, Rome was a fierce conqueror before Christ, but Christ wasn't preaching anything of the sort. And I don't think Christ was in favor of slavery either. But even so at times the Church did have wars in the name of God/Christianity and recruited people for their armies to wage it as well. The crusades was another thing that the church began and supported, etc.
I've been saying that for decades! Plus, I've asked why Christianity's based in Rome and not in Jerusalem where you'd logically expect it to be. Obviously, that's a difficult one to answer! 🤣

voice of reason indeed. The greatest comedians are actually intelligent social commentators able to find humor in strange situations while speaking complete truth.
If you love this, start checking out political satirists. I don't know any English speaking, but are there are bits of German political satirist on YT with English subtitles from German satirists two or three decades old about international relations, war, terror, religion, health care, taxes, pensions, corruption, etc. that would have them canceled today. The systems and logics they critizice are still in place today, so their content has lost none of its relevance. Volker Pispers, Georg Scramm, Dieter Hildebrandt, Bruno Jonas are some of the names that come to my mind. If you know anyone doing similar bits in English, I would love to know who. The only ones doing similar bits in English that I am aware of are Monty Python, George Carlin and maybe Bill Burr.
You're exactly right, I don't care what crazy bullshit someone else believes as long as they don't tell me what I have to believe, or how to act or think. As soon as someone does that we've got a problem
As soon as someone VOTES for or passes a law that is rooted in their silly religion, we’ve got a problem. You see, religion is toxic af and there’s no “keeping it to oneself.”
I feel the same way about silly atheists professing to know it all and admonishing me for my faith in God. Christianity is the easiest target in the world. Hardly brave. Turns out he's the actual bully.
The lie is that there's no ultimate responsibility. Most atheists are wracked with mental illness and are constantly engaged in fleeting pleasures to numb themselves. Atheism is the philosophy of the coward who can't assent to a moral standard above his own fallible desires.
George Carliin was a legend and I was lucky enough to see him perform live. One of my favorite experiences ever. George Carlin was would have been funny no matter what he talked about because he was a funny guy. But what made him a genius was his clear-eyed view of people and the way the world works. He used his comedy as social commentary. He was unique and I still miss having him in the world.
I got real lucky in 1972 and got to see George live in a small club in San Diego. Great memories from my Navy days. He was the best at what he did I wish he was still with us.
5:40 He's talking about the age old phenomenon of criticising what other people wore to church. You may have heard the term "Sunday best" this refers to wearing your best clothes to attend church for Sunday service. Well unfortunately some people still choose to judge people by what they wear rather than what's in their heart. My culture has a similar thing when it comes to criticising someone's wedding you've been invited to. I've never understood it since I was a child but they typically complain about the venue or the food. It's very petty and I've always hated that aspect of my culture.
Carlin is right... again. I was fortunate enough to grow up listening to his humorous views on life and other relatable topics. Sadly missed but never forgotten.

George started in the sixties and was a master wordsmith ,his evolution was a such a joy to follow. I was 11 years old when I bought his first album it was perfect for the era . Joe Pesci was an actor who was in a lot of Mafia movies. His characters were often bombastic ☮️
Have you watched the comedian Eddie Izzard? Particularly his "Dressed to Kill" performance. His take on history, his "Death Star Cantina," his "Cake or Die" routines are amazing. I also suggest the movie "Dogma." Love your reactions.
You guys had the perfect facial reaction after his punch line. " but he loves you." Just perfect! Ive loved George Carlin for over 50 years. He was a genius.
George presents things in a way that makes people think... "Wow, I never thought of it that way" thereby giving people a totally different perspective they hadn't considered before. I thoroughly agree with you and George Carlin about organized religion. People need community and it's wonderful to get together in the effort to help others in the name of humanity as opposed to worshiping a common "leader".
Joe pesci, hasn't done much in the last 20 years, but back in the late '80s early '90s he had a ton of films, including home alone, my cousin Vinny to name a few! I highly recommend my cousin Vinny, that is an absolutely gut bustingly funny movie! Also it has the amazing Spider-Man's aunt in it! Marisa tomei! She plays his fiance in the movie and it's brilliant! I highly recommend it!
it’s often said church is just a place for people to one up their neighbors in fashion.. that was the context of the joke when he says no building we show up to once a week to compare clothing
Wonderful, thoughtful reactions. It is tragic that for thousands of years people have been killing and continue to kill each other for mainly two reasons: religion and real estate.
"You can't be that eloquent, I can hear him forever." "He is the voice of reason". -- YES -- Carlin made me feel like I wasn't insane when I was a young boy that read MORE of the bible than anyone else I went to church with... Anyone that takes religion seriously begins to see how irrational it is and ask questions, and the way adults can treat a child seeking the truth is often so disappointing as they care less about truth than social allegiances... Thank you for watching and sharing.
I don't need to listen and hear this clip, because I can speak along with him and his words by now. It's that often, that I already saw it. I played it to a rather open minded muslim, who replied: "Well god himself doesn't need money." .... What a helpless reply. Every word is spot on.

I can't remember who said this, and I'm paraphrasing, "If you get rid of religion completely, no trace or records or anything then get rid of everything about science and discoveries and math eventually someone will figure those things out again and science and math will be completely proven and tested and will be exactly the same but all of the religions will be nothing like they were or completely different from the ones that were here."
Well, now he knows if he was right or wrong. None of us knows until we die. Paul Simon's lyric from "Slip Slidin' Away", "The information is unavailable to the mortal man", says it best.

Joe Pesci is an actor probably best known for his roles in many Martin Scorsese films where he usually plays characters who are tough and very violent. Of course, he's also known for his roles in the "Home Alone" movies as one of the pair of goofs who tries to be tough.
He was friends with Carlin and was in the audience on the night this video was recorded, which is why Carlin featured him.
I so empathize with this. Religion causes more hate, misunderstanding, and war than any other ideology. I am a proud nontheist humanist, and am so happy to see young folks like you both speaking to these truths. I would feel privileged to have a conversation with you two about this sometime. Thank you for watching this great George set. Best to you both!
voice of reason indeed. The greatest comedians are actually intelligent social commentators able to find humor in strange situations while speaking complete truth.
Burr is Carlin of the Millennials.
And this boys and girls is why he was known as the professor of comedy
This young woman is an absolute stunner.
She's smart too
Both are.
More importantly, they are very thoughtful.
You mean with her thoughts and opinions right?
Agreed.
Absolutely brilliant response! Love your conversation and discussion! Thank you!
Many religious folks prefer the warm comfort of a lie versus the hard reality of the truth.
I watch people doing reacts to my favorite clips. And when you mentioned Hitchens, I knew I found kindred souls.
Carlin and Hitchens are together now.
I enjoyed your discussion 😊
Carlin is right... again.
I was fortunate enough to grow up listening to his humorous views on life and other relatable topics.
Sadly missed but never forgotten.
I've watched two other couples react to the Calin piece but hands down you two were the best. Your comments, ideas, questions were very thought-provoking. Thanks!
He is Professor George Carli!! swa him live 1977 change the way i process information entering my brain!! I'm 68 now and he is always relevent I love you both! i am now a follower. its always great watchiing people witness George for the 1st time - be welll you both and love is the only way!
This reaction made me subscribe. I don't know how long it took George to write this, but it's one of the most well crafted comedy bits ever performed. Unless humans grow up someday, it will be relevant forever.
Joe Pesci played volatile, violent Mafia characters in movies
He also did comedy roles - Home Alone , Home Alone 2 , My Cousin Vinny , Gone Fishing , The Super.
I believe George Carlin to be the Master of cultural observational comedy.
There will never be another quite like George Carlin. Those who ever saw his live performance in person were blessed by good fortune!
This skit never gets old. Too much truth in one man. I miss George Carlin
It makes me so happy to see two young people be so open-minded. You two are special!
Good reaction. The ten commandments is another brilliant observation by George.
simple facts, why would the truth be offensive, love ur reactions
He’s a poet, not a comedian. A word maestro. 😎
No way! You read Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris, and Dennett!?!? You are my people!! Love you, beautiful people!!
So many people on this planet never even hear anything critical about their beliefs. EVERY religious person needs to hear this comedy piece by Carlin.
George started in the sixties and was a master wordsmith ,his evolution was a such a joy to follow. I was 11 years old when I bought his first album it was perfect for the era . Joe Pesci was an actor who was in a lot of Mafia movies. His characters were often bombastic ☮️
Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris......wow! Now I'm an even bigger fan! Also check out Lawrence Kraus!!
Love Lawrence Kraus! We read his book, Universe From Nothing and also watched his interviews 😁
You're right. George Carlin was the voice of reason. I don't know if you've watched his 10 Commandments video, but I think you would like it.
Have you watched the comedian Eddie Izzard? Particularly his "Dressed to Kill" performance. His take on history, his "Death Star Cantina," his "Cake or Die" routines are amazing.
I also suggest the movie "Dogma."
Love your reactions.
Ol' white guy here and I just eff'n luv you two 😂😂😂.!
You should see Dave Allen on religion. He was an irish comedian that started in 1963 or so and has a lot of sketches that were really good.
Respect for you guys realizing what religion is really for. Peace :)
You guys had the perfect facial reaction after his punch line. " but he loves you." Just perfect! Ive loved George Carlin for over 50 years. He was a genius.
He was my Professor of Philosophical Comedy! Lectures camouflaged as standup. 😉♥
I'm 68 yrs old, have followed George my whole life....and he is a Sage, and, may even be, a prophet.
George presents things in a way that makes people think... "Wow, I never thought of it that way" thereby giving people a totally different perspective they hadn't considered before. When I saw you were a Lebanese couple I decided I'd just watched you for awhile before making any kind of judgments, but then the young lady said 'I like the title' and I was happy I decide to watch your reaction. It gives me hope that there are people of reason in all parts of the world.
George Carlin is the best. A humanist through and through. And an anti-theist as well (like myself). Thanks guys, it was fun to see your reaction.
My God. Carol is sooo beautiful!
Agreed.
He really does make one think for oneself, great reaction!!
George Carlin Always Blows My Mind with his Humorous Logic.
He's was One of America's Greatest Modern Philosophers!! ✌
he is right. he told it all and its the truth
Carol, great authors you are reading, congrats for your thoughts! 👏👏👏
I thoroughly agree with you and George Carlin about organized religion. People need community and it's wonderful to get together in the effort to help others in the name of humanity as opposed to worshiping a common "leader".
First time I've seen your channel and I loved this reaction. Great commentary at the end. Keep up the good work. I subscribed.
Love this clip! Also great discussion afterwards. Couldn't agree more! Such an interesting topic!
Carlin told it right out! A master of language & its use. I've listened to Carlin for decades & he always makes me laugh & impressed with his cadence.
it’s often said church is just a place for people to one up their neighbors in fashion.. that was the context of the joke when he says no building we show up to once a week to compare clothing
Wonderful, thoughtful reactions. It is tragic that for thousands of years people have been killing and continue to kill each other for mainly two reasons: religion and real estate.
One of my favourite George Carlin stand up bits. Love your talk & reaction 👍
‘Spooky incompetent father figure who doesn’t give a shit’ 😂
We are clearly on the same page.
Thank you both for your introspection.
My wife and I had the privilege to see him live. He was amazing. 😂❤
Great reaction!. George spoke the truth,he was a genius. Peace, love and respect you both.❤
"You can't be that eloquent, I can hear him forever." "He is the voice of reason".
HE WAS THE MASTER YOU GUYS!!! 💯😊NOBODYYYYY IN COMEDY COULD DO WHAT HE DID, FOR 50 YEARS, RHYTHYM, TIMING, CADENCE, GREATEST COMEDIAN / PHILOSOPHER AND HE WOULD ALWAYS OPEN UP YOUR MIND👍, STILL ( 15 ) YEARS AFTER HIS PASSING! ☹( 22 JUNE 2008 ) ☹KEEP ENJOYING GOOD OLE GEORGE YOU GUYS!
I remember watching this when it aired on HBO back in the 1990's
I can't remember who said this, and I'm paraphrasing, "If you get rid of religion completely, no trace or records or anything then get rid of everything about science and discoveries and math eventually someone will figure those things out again and science and math will be completely proven and tested and will be exactly the same but all of the religions will be nothing like they were or completely different from the ones that were here."
Well, now he knows if he was right or wrong. None of us knows until we die. Paul Simon's lyric from "Slip Slidin' Away", "The information is unavailable to the mortal man", says it best.
I’m an Atheist, thank God. And George Carlin was / is 100% correct.
Have a look at 'Dave Allen, and his take on religion, superb.
