    thank you! i didn't even know what skinning was and how some vtubers could get their hair to have such complex physics!

    Hi guys! Just a couple things to note:
    1. This is for the pro version only, as the free version of Live2D has a limited amount of parameters you can create.
    2. I forgot to say, but this doesn't have to only be for hair! You can use skinning for any long mesh, such as a cape or something like that. Don't be afraid to experiment!

    • @starnymphstudio
      @starnymphstudio  3 роки тому +6

      One more thing! BEFORE skinning, make sure you set the hair meshes to the head x and y parameters, otherwise the hair will not move properly with the head once you've done the skinning. I'm sorry for not mentioning it in the video!!

    This has opened my eyes and cleared my skin, thank you!! I never even knew skinning existed and now i really want to try it.
    This video is very easy to digest too, There's a lot of people making a lot of tutorials but oftentimes I can't seem to focus on their words. This was a very appreciated exception!!

      I'm glad my tutorial was nice and exfoliating 😂 really though, thank you for the kind words!

    Btw, if you add the pendulums before adding the output parameters, each parameter will get a different pendulum assigned, saving you a bit of time and getting more or less the finished effect (may or may not need some tweaking on the pendulum properties).

    This video is EXACTLY what I needed. I'm new to the whole live2d world, I'm watching a bazillion of tuts just to understand how to add physics to the hair, they're usually overcomplicated, and NO ONE talks about skinning and the way they avoid it so much when people ask for a skinning tutorial made me believe it was a terrible monster ultra hard to understand and not worth to teach.
    You did it in under 5 minutes. You rock, thank you so much. 💙✨
    (Honestly, you explain things is such a easy to follow and clear way that I would love if you did tutorials for everything, even the things you say there's already a bunch of tutorials on (I still don't understand how to make eyes close, for example...))

      This is such a nice comment, thank you for your kind words! I'm super happy to hear that I could help. I'm going to be re-rigging my first model soon, and I plan to record the whole process and break it down into short "how-to" video chunks, so look forward to that! :)

      @@starnymphstudio You're welcome and I'm really excited for them!
      Also, I was trying to use this technique not for hair but to give movement to a tail. Thing is, doesn't matter how I try to set the mesh, it ALWAYS breaks in the lower part of the top (Imagine a cat tail in a S shape, the curve on top always break when I try to move after skinning)
      After struggling with it and clicking around I thought that was just the glue thing acting in the wrongs spots, which is true, the glued points are wrong, but I simply can't edit it =(

    • @starnymphstudio
      @starnymphstudio  3 роки тому

      What happens if you try creating fewer rotation deformers along the tail? For example, try not including one along the curve itself and see if that prevents the mesh from breaking.

    • @-Castiel-
      @-Castiel- 3 роки тому

      @@starnymphstudio Sadly, no deal =( Initially I was using about 10 bones, but even now using just 3 it still breaks in completely nonsense spots. Wish I could show a printscreen but youtube always delete any links I share e_e'

    • @starnymphstudio
      @starnymphstudio  3 роки тому

      Ahh I'm sorry it's not working for you. :( If you wanna dm me on twitter I can try and help! You might have to use the normal warp deformer way of doing the physics for the tail if it's not working though.

    I have a problem when it comes to selecting the deformers, whenever I try to select every deformer + the mesh, it doesn’t let me, i don’t know if there is an especific key in the computer or i’m just doing it wrong
    This is how i have them like:
    Bangs hair rotation
    Bangs
    Bangs hair rotation 2
    Bangs hair rotation 3
    Bangs hair rotation 4
    It doesn’t look like yours too much, so i figured i was doing something wrong, I don’t know if there were parts before this that explain it, but also thought that maybe it is because i’m doing it with the free version.

    hello there! needless to say that regardless of being an old video it was decently helpful :D i am having trouble with somthing else however; basically i've spend h o u r s rigging my model's arm and leg movements but when i go ahead and add it to vtude studio the parameters wont do anything. of course this is because vtube studio only face tracks, but is there a way to link some head angle movement with arm movement for example?

    • @starnymphstudio
      @starnymphstudio  2 роки тому

      Hi! Sure you could! Just add your model's arm/leg parameters to the head or body angle parameters and copy the keyforms (Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V) over so that your arm movements correspond to your head movements. I hope that makes sense :)

    one question though, mine keeps saying the artmesh isn't properly connected and I need to fine-tune the mesh. I've tried everything I could think of and it doesnt work, any tips?

    • @starnymphstudio
      @starnymphstudio  3 роки тому

      Hello! So this tut is a little old so there's a few things I understand now that I didn't before. Rather than putting a bunch of little rotation deformers, instead try to only put them where you want the object to curve. If you get that error, just undo the deformers and keep trying until it decides to cooperate. The error happens sometimes when the deformers are too close to each other. Good luck!

    • @starnymphstudio
      @starnymphstudio  3 роки тому +1

      Hello! I did not mention it in the video (I'm sorry!) but make sure the parts are attached to whatever parameter you need them to move in. So if you're skinning hair, add the parts to the head x and y parameters before skinning.

    • @starnymphstudio
      @starnymphstudio  2 роки тому

      That sounds like an issue with setting up either the pendulum or the input. Make sure you have your input set as angle X (or whatever you want it) and that the effectiveness is 100! Feel free to DM me on Twitter if that doesn't work ^^

    Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I do have one question though; I first adjust a hair piece to the head x and y parameters with the warp deformer tool so it rotates with the head. I then put the rotation deformer on the piece and follow all the steps you've provided (skinning, generate parameters, etc.) The problem is, whether I use skinning and add the warp deformer along with the mesh and rotation deformer or not, when I rotate the head, the chunk of hair rotates with the head but doesn't warp like I put in the warp deformer. I hope I explained that clearly ^^'
    Should I just delete the warp deformer for the hair altogether? How will I make the chunk of hair rotate with the head and bounce at the same time?

    • @starnymphstudio
      @starnymphstudio  3 роки тому +1

      Hello! Before skinning, make sure the meshes are set to the head x and y parameters (the meshes themselves, not just the warp deformers). I should have mentioned this in the video, I'm sorry. 😅

    • @Alexden96Channel
      @Alexden96Channel 3 роки тому

      @@starnymphstudio Ah ok! I'll try that out! -Should I delete the warp deformers then and only adjust the mesh?- Yes that was exactly what you said. I'll try it out and see if it works!

    • @starnymphstudio
      @starnymphstudio  3 роки тому +1

      Nope, keep the deformers you have and just add the meshes to the parameters. You don't have to adjust them at all, just add them!
