I made a new gear template before making the ranged squad itself, and it worked! only downside is that if you want to chage their gear you have to delete the squad and re establish it.
In regards to ammo stockpiles I have found that dwarves won't include decorated ammo in the stockpiles, and possibly also never consider them for equipment (I never saw them do it). I'm unsure if this is something that is actually happening or just a niche/unlucky observation of my own, nor if it's working as intended if it is happening. But given you can't forbid or specify what is decorated, unlike encrusting, it can complicate ammo even further...
Crap, I actually did delete all the default uniforms in my game. I got mad that I couldn't actually examine existing uniforms. The workaround was to assign it to a squad and then look at a single member of that squad's details and i could get some clues there. But that's it.
First off, I really like how tightly the fortress has been designed, it's a very good use of space, unlike the meandering halways that I like to have in my own forts. On the forgotten beast, I had my own first encounter with one yesterday; giant scaled leech, beware it's fiery breath, and when I popped open it's description it said that she (I'm arbitrarily assigning it a gender since forgotten beasts are genderless) made friends easily, had high empathy and was very open minded and formed attachments easily. Like, the kindest gentlest soul to exist was a giant bloodsucking monstrosity that breathed fire everywhere. Welcome to Dwarf Fortress.
You need sand to make glass, which is a magma safe material (I think) that can be used to craft some pump parts, as well as windows, or as a material that some strange mood dwarves want.

I'll send you my fort when it's darn well ready! (Seriously, I am stoked to share my fort in the coming weeks/month/year.)
Very nice use of the gemmed walls get some magma from them and build a magma forge
i dont use the default armors at all; you just need to give them a ranged weapon choice and they'll pick up a quiver and bolts
Actually a really beautifully drawn fort.
I've been calling the new gem clusters "Kinder Surprise Eggs" 💎♦💠🔶

Thanks for looking at my fort, Blind. I had a great time with it. Your tutorials helped me so much!

The guitar playing behind is beautiful. Is it from the game?
The link in the description to the builders channel doesn’t work for me, did hou mean this youtube.com/@2DKiri channel?
Huh youtube muddled that, thanks for the shout.

Welcome to Dwarf Fortress.
Possible to request a video where to find save which save where to how to upload maybe?
Why is it important to keep the sand there (at start of review)?
Grass/moss can grow on top of it, then you'll have to uncover the sand for it to be harvestable.

Glass is also good for making furniture for happy thoughts
