    Years ago I was a shift supervisor with security at a hospital. I always made sure my officers got their dinner breaks before I took my own. I never asked them to do something that I myself wasn't willing to do. And when we had to take down a violent patient I was always the first one through the door. I learned that from my NCO's in the Army Infantry - lead by example.

    Some leaders of the modern-day fail to see this and blindly say, "I'm just doing my job". Last time I took a class at college, my teacher was in fact the opposite kind of leader. He was friendly yet serious, trustworthy, knowledgeable, and provided proper assistance to those who weren't even in the class. Since he had the power to do so, why not do it. People may say, "that's because you paid him to do so". Maybe but nobody goes to the lengths he took.

      I was thinking the same thing... it's a little confusing, although it feels right. Wouldn't you give the best slice to "the gods" or to your wife and children?!? Maybe self sacrifice can come in many ways, and we should honor those who sacrifice on any level of the hierarchy

    "Leaders eat last"
    That really is true because I'm in a management position at work and I break last (if I even get a break) because I make sure everyone & everything is taken care first. I break when the work is done, not when it's time for everyone else to metaphorically "eat". The people are my burden & responsibility; I do nothing for myself until they're taken care of.

      The point he ends on is that while Alpha's "eat first" a leader will "eat last" meaning a leader understands that he/she must use their alpha qualities not for themselves, but for the good of the whole. They must sacrifice to protect those underneath them.

    • @MineCartable
      @MineCartable 7 років тому +40

      AK Milli Not really. They didn't equate an Alpha to a Leader. The comparison was of the qualities that a leader has, being similar to an alpha. "... must use their alpha qualities..."
      Something small that someone could miss, but the easiest way to express this idea is that a Leader is a sub-category of Alpha.

    Very true from my experience.
    A few years ago I was in a bar with a couple of friends. The biggest, strongest friend (who had always been our caretaker) was so drunk he went to the bathroom for an hour and didn't come out. Left me with our two friends, one was an overweight placid guy the other was a small nervous guy. We were playing pool. Three guys came into the bar and two of them immediately came over to me and started trying to offend me. Getting too close, invading my space. Smacktalking etc. I could see their betas were glancing around at my friends, and it became apparent they wanted trouble. Their alpha, the biggest guy by far, was sitting at the bar with his back to us. I didn't get a good look at him but I knew he was at least 6'3" and probably 3-4 stone heavier than me. I was very nervous, I knew I wouldn't be able to fight all these guys (and they were bad guys) and I knew I couldn't rely on either on my friends who were present, and a little bit of me felt responsible for getting them out of harms way. So I "pretended" to be alpha, and got cheeky back, and stood up tall and kept control best I could.
    Finally after what seemed like forever, our big friend came out of the bathroom, and he stood there silently near the doorway looking at the three guys. I had no idea how long he'd been standing there when I spotted him, I'd been playing pool and trying to keep my eyes on my two extremely nervous friends. Then my alpha friend put down his drink and walked over to the biggest one of their group and sat down next to him and put his arm around him. Looking him straight in the eye and smiling, he asked if he could buy them all a beer and started feeling the guys nipple inside his shirt. Then he stood up and laughed and said "yeah I'm not gay! Just joking! Hey you guys want a fight? Or a beer? I'll buy you a beer. Or I'll kick the fuck out of you... nah I'm just joking! Let me buy you a beer! THREE BEERS PLEASE DARLIN! You wanna beer, yeah?...." and I swear to god all three had left the bar in the next 2 minutes.
    That's alpha, he knew instantly he had to do something, he wasn't nervous, he knew what to do and he ENJOYED doing it. He got a kick out of it. Then he came over and rubbed my shoulder and said "well done, sorry I was being sick ha! lets play pool" and we carried on playing.
    So yes I was nervous, because there was trouble and our alpha, our protector wasn't present. Yes I (we) expected him to fix it and step up. Yes he DID step up without fear or considering his own safety. Yes he got the job done. I guess he was just more alpha than their alpha!

      Even if the claimed synchronization phenomenon occurs, and even if human pheromones cause it, so what? It’s a matter of curiosity, not of clinical importance. When there is a reason to manipulate ovulation or menstrual timing, pharmaceutical hormones work very well. The paucity of evidence for human pheromones suggests that if they do exist, their effects must be too small in magnitude to be very important.

I think it's unintelligent to discredit authors who say they met someone and writing what that person said, when you weren't there and it was thousands of years ago. Unless you have evidence that disagrees that Jesus existed or that he didn't say this, the men who wrote about him have enough credit (more than you) to be believed.
      It would be like going to a court case about an incident that happened before you were born and saying that the witnesses are liars and the court unintelligent because they believe the testimony instead of your opinion. You'd come across as the stupid one...

      For everyone who doesn't know, Mother Theresa willfully and conscientiously neglected treatment for those under her care. She had a romanticised view of suffering, allowing most of her patients to die painfully, despite readily available cures. The only reason why she was considered a saint was due to the fact that the church considered her 'blessings' to be miracles (and not, for example, any medication).

    Few people want to step to the challenge of leadership for fear of failure. For themselves. When you care about yourself first no progress can be made. A true leader puts the needs of others before their own and accepts failure as a whole. Accepting failure is part of being a good leader. Anyone who says they have never failed is a liar and not to be trusted. Those who can accept it without blaming others are fit to lead.

    Nice, love these videos. My ramblings: In a society ruled by conformity, all people will attempt to be alpha at some point. And in the midst of extreme specialization, the roles of alphas in a work setting is questionable, to me at least. Working in teams, I've noticed that people who don't know how to consciously reduce their "alpha-ness" really make me question their input sometimes. And, others generally regard them with disdain. The one who's considerate of everybody's strengths, and steps back to allow others to shine, is a great leader. Not to mention, in a team where the alpha is separate (the boss) and clearly above everybody... no one benefits from peoples' singular desire to rise up in status. Respect and trust is earned, not forced. To me, this is a very redeeming quality in humans, but that's neither here nor there. Hierarchy in society is very fluid within the middle power/status group, especially on the macro-level, above the family unit, but otherwise it's not at all. I won't be advising myself to become more alpha... I'll just let happen what will happen...

    • @sigh153
      @sigh153 3 роки тому +2

      I agree with everything you said about leadership, it's all so true! In this video I found that him saying that humans inherently try to form a heirarchy is kinda false though and completely contradicts what we classify as good leadership. Being a leader doesn't mean you rank higher than someone, and even the term alpha is wrong to use here in my opinion, being a good leader is about guiding your people so everyone can reach their full potential. A leader is on the same level as anyone else. This is also the reason why the capitalist system is completely flawed and why so many people are unhappy with their jobs and their bosses (which this guy said no one cared about but that was completely wrong).

    "Menstrual synchrony research declined after the published critiques in the 1990s and around the turn of the century.[9][10][11][12] The two studies published during this decade incorporated the methodological critiques into their designs and used more appropriate statistical methods.[13][14]
    Yang and Schank conducted the largest study to date with 186 Chinese college women. Ninety three of the women lived in 13 dorm rooms, 5 to 8 women per room. The other ninety three women lived in 16 dorm rooms, 4 to 8 women per room for a total of 29 rooms. The women were given notebooks to record the onset of each of their cycles and they collected data for over a year for most of the women.[13]
    Following the statistical critiques of Schank,[11][12] they argued that circular statistics were required to analyze periodic data for the existence of synchrony. However, menstrual cycles are variable in frequency (e.g., 28 or 31 day cycles) and in length. They pointed out that there are no statistical methods for analyzing messy data like this, so they developed Monte Carlo methods for detecting synchrony.[13]
    They found that in 9 of the 29 groups, women's cycles converged for one cycle closer than expected by chance, but then they diverged again. Upon further analysis, they found that for women with the cycle variability reported in this study, on average 10 out of 29 groups of women would show this pattern of convergence followed by divergence. They concluded that finding 9 out of 29 groups with convergence and then divergence is about what would be expected by chance and concluded that there was no evidence the women in this study synchronized their menstrual cycles.[13]
    Ziomkiewicz conducted a study with 99 Polish college women living in two dormitories. Thirty six of the women lived in 18 double rooms and sixty three lived in 21 triple rooms. Women recorded their menstrual cycle onsets on menstrual calendars provided to them and 181 days' worth of menstrual cycle data were collected. The mean menstrual cycle length was 30.5 days (SD = 4.56).[14]
    Based on the mean cycle length of the women in this study, the expected difference by chance in menstrual cycle onset was approximately 7.5 days. The mean difference in cycle onset was calculated for the beginning, middle, and end of the study for the pairs and triples of women. Ziomkiewicz found no statistically significant difference from the 7.5 day expected difference at either the beginning, middle, or end of the study. She concluded that there was no evidence of menstrual synchrony.[14]" Wikipedia. yeah its wiky, but also, i find intriguing these studies, and yet, this guy comes with some ALPHA WOMAN revolutionary theory, and i dont even know why....

      If they're convinced that all bosses are like that, no problem. Start their own business. Set it up and run it the way you see best.
      Oh, and "but I can't because... whatever BS reason". No, they could if they wanted to. Most don't and I think that's because they know the truth. That truth is that THEY aren't worth that much. They don't determine how valuable you are to the market, the market decides that. They don't actually provide enough value to succeed. It's like when ugly people claim that they're hot. I know, it's a crude example but hear me out. They don't determine that. Other people decide it. If someone is really attractive, other people react accordingly.

      The finding were reflected on to humans after the study, but before it was debunked. Call strong and weak people what you want, I'm just not a fan of blindly categorizing complex humans in to two or three teams.

    The movie "10,000 B.C" explains it best. "Every man must draw around him a circle. Inside the circle are his kids and his wife. Some men draw bigger circles that include his brothers and sisters. And some men draw bigger circles still, that include all of his kind" or some shit. That's what a real leader is.

      Well, he probably is, if he's trying to convince you that Nelson Mandela was a saint, and not a child-murdering terrorist who was in prison for A REASON, then yeah, he is either misinformed or deceitful.

      That's not the point. The person can be anyone you want it to be. He used Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela because those two people are perceived as good and not bad by the general public. The person could have been your father or mother. The point he is making is that it is not about the money. It's about the fact that bankers or politicians etc, were put in positions to be our leaders but instead sell us out. If this was not the case, we would not be concerned too much about the salaries if the needs of the people were addressed.

      Lol that's easier than one would think. For men, Eat healthy and exercise every day. Once the body is developed so it's ratios are similar to a Greek statue, people quit saying hi to you, strangers won't smile at you and no one approaches you(exception: homeless people asking for money). Well, that's at least how i ended up invisible haha hope this helps.

      Frontier Brain Anabel mother Teresa never meant to help the sick and dying. no medication. not even pain meds for the dying. she, of course, got the type of medical care of a " first-world alpha". she went only to convert the heathens. abject squalor was the status quo. nothing she did raised up one single person. check out the saint. no longer can the church white-wash the gross indifference she had for the people.

    You make some damn good points man. There's a simple way to understand the alpha concept; simply observe the way gorillas act towards their silver back. Or watch some Disney movies ironically: Tarzan, Kurjack being the alpha until the ending, Lion King, Mufasa then Simba, etc... Personally, i think to be an alpha, 1st. As you said, no matter what, You look out for the group as a whole, especially the children. 2nd, an alpha dont need to say or try to be, they just are. 3rd while yes, they'd get the best of food when its in abundance, but they'd be the first to skip a meal if there's not enough for everyone. 4th, even though intellect is big, mos alphas can physically hold their own and protect the smaller fellas. 5th, they will lead, not order others to do while they cower in the back.
