Everything Everywhere.....a comedy? It wasn't funny, it was a turgid, nonsensical, woke, boring trudge that outstayed its welcome by an hour and a half. To see quality actresses like Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis reduced down to stick on googly eyes, hot dog fingers, butt plug fights, insipid woke politics, awful effects, and bad writing was just heartbreaking. Easily in my top worst films of 2022. I just don't understand the manic love for EEAAO, I thought it was pretentious, overlong, overhyped, zero plot, dreadful dialogue, and a massive ego wank for the "directors". It had epileptic editing, and effects? WHAT effects! I thought it was an embarrassing mess. It was as though the directors came up with a load of stupid ideas, wrote them on scraps of paper, loaded them into an air cannon, fired it at a wall, then saw what landed right way up, and tenuously linked those together with the worst writing imaginable. If it didn't have an LGBT plotline or a predominantly Asian cast, it would have been mauled, nay ripped apart critically. Those 2 story aspects, I feel, were done cynically to save it from such critical panning.
CineFix continuing the tradition of discussing films that exist outside of US and UK, especially in their honorable mentions. Something all too many of their contemporaries refuse to acknowledge.
Yeah least some aspects of the channel remain in that sense. The IGN taker killed a fair bit but it's good to know they can still put out great list videos acknowledging the world of cinema, not just the USA Hollywoo stuff
Your recommendation of Aftersun intrigued me and I just watched it. Holy crap. I haven’t cried that hard in a long time. I cannot believe that was the film debut for this director. An absolute masterpiece.
i dont know why but I expected something obviously darker, not wanting to go into details, I've been waiting a plot twist or something, and yeah I watched it almost at night (a bad mistake for experiencing movie)
It was a joke because RRR is #1 action of the year like they repeatedly hinted that Everything Everywhere All At Once was the only “all the Sci-Fi Kung Fu action comedy existential family drama of the year.”
Aftersun is SO good, and sadly isn't getting nearly as much attention as a lot of other films of this year. I hope it'll get an Oscar nom, if only to get more eyes on it. It's just one of those films I can't stop thinking about, for the best reasons.
The most surprising thing for me is that I watched The Northman and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent in a theater on the same day, back to back.
Too much money, too much time and easily led. The majority of films on this list are absolute garbage, WOKE, or badly written. I'll stick with the classics, not this new crap
The final 20 minutes of Aftersun shattered me. You had this quiet subconscious sense of what was building but it kicks you in the teeth in the most beautiful way regardless. Also, ‘Knowing the exact perfect instance to make it’s heartbreaking Irish goodbye’, the characters in the film are Scottish, but the lead Paul is Irish, easy mistake! Fantastic film.
Was referring here to an "Irish Goodbye", which is when you leave a party without saying goodbye to anyone, rather than the actual nationalities of the characters, but definitely understand the confusion!
If you haven’t watched it yet, Puss in Boots the last wish is unbelievably good and feels like a Kung Fu Panda movie more than a shrek spin off. It’s gorgeous and has one of the best villains ever put in an animated film. It uses Spiderverse style animation to the best effect, and is an absolute blast once the story gets going.
I just gotta say that the moment yah did the Top Gun to RRR swap had me in tears. As a long time Cinefix fan, it was a perfect Cinefix swap and it will live on in my as one of my favorite moments of the Movielist series.
As a person who literally changed his number one movie of all time TWICE this year alone. I do approve of Aftersun. People are sleeping on it. Best film of the year and possibly in my lifetime.
Thank you for this wonderful list. You have convinced me to get off my butt and see RRR as I have also had a few friends recommend it. Loved that your list included the fabulous Decision to Leave. My favourite films of this year were Banshees, EEAAO, Tar and AfterSun. I loved Aftersun so so much- it was beautiful and heartbreaking and the closing shot was my favourite of the entire year. I also really loved the NZ action film, Muru and I hope more people get to see it.
You should come back to tell the tale of your experience with RRR. Fun Fact : _RRR's leads along with Dir will be attending Los Angeles Screening of RRR at TCL next week. RRR is great on TV, Bonkers when watched with an Audience._
Just saw RRR and it was everything you say it is. Perfect. Spectacle, funny, songs, dances, volcanic action, tragedy, mini-films unto themselves (check that opening scene!) and filmed with such a ridiculous level of intensity it threatens to spin out of control. It blew me away. More than once I hollered out “What the hell?” And was thrilled by it.
How refreshing to have a non-cute and literate, personal approach to some exciting fare, at least half of which seem to have escaped other "Best 10 Lists." The quick overview preceding your actual picks also including tempting and unusual choices, and my hand was scribbling as fast as possible in order to track these down for future cinematic excitement. Bravo!

Its crazy how Western audience and critics are loosing their minds over RRR... In India, we get similar, hyper machoism, over the top action filled with dance, songs and drama almost every other weekend.. I dont know what they will do when they discover Rajnikanth and Mithun Da...

@@ChatPOPPAT Yeah, I get what you mean. RRR was well done [especially the action], but it wouldn't make it to my top 10 of the year. My top three this year are: Everything Everywhere All at Once, Tar, and Aftersun. This is a very good list and I'm adding a lot of the honorable mentions to my watchlist.
Love your list; wish _Mad God_ at least got a shoutout. 30 years is a helluva long time to spend on a film, and while it may not have been the _best_ animated film of the year, it was certainly the most impressive.

The Northman is the Vikingest piece of media ever made about the Norse. It is messy and all over the place, as a good oral tradition tends to be. The magical realism comes natural and at its core is a personal tale that we can all reflect ourselves in. Total masterpiece.
Cinefix never disappoints, but I was a little surprised not to see at least any mention of Watcher or Mad God in the horror section. Another great list with some new movies I'll have to see now nonetheless.
1. The Northman 2. The Batman 3. Top Gun: Maverick 4. Fourth of July 5. Avatar: The Way of Water 6. Jackass Forever 7. Dr. Strange In the Multiverse of Madness 8. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent 9. Hustle 10. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
I want to see Aftersun so bad! I subscribed to MUBI app just to see it but it was not available, I guess because of my country or region. I hope MUBI released it soon here! 🙏😢
That's MUBI GO. It's screening in the theaters for now. It'll be available to stream next month, I believe. And yes, do get a VPN to use MUBI to its full potential.
Paul Mescal should at least get a best actor nomination (and really should win it if there’s any justice), plus Charlotte Wells should get a nod for Directing and ‘Aftersun’ for Best Picture but I get the feeling it will be horrifically overlooked. Mubi really seem to be pushing ‘Decision to Leave’ for consideration, instead of ‘Aftersun’ which I think is a mistake. Maybe they’re hoping it’s good run of other awards will ensure it is considered… ‘Aftersun’ is achingly beautiful and heart-wrenching in all the best ways. I truly think Paul Mescal is the actor of a generation, all his performances so far have been sublime. This is an incredible debut by Charlotte Wells, definitely one to keep an eye on for her next project. To think this is Frankie Corio’s first time ever acting is mind blowing, she really will be a future star. A very well deserved number 1 on this list, it had me sobbing long after the credits rolled. The final shot of Calum walking away into Sophie’s memories will stay with me for a long time, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to listen to ‘Under Pressure’ in the same way again.
Agreed, both their performances were awesome, but when I read that was Frankie's first performance i was mind-blown. A better performance than pretty much every kid actor performance these days. I hope she gets some crazy good role and doesn't go the kid actor gone wrong side
The Buildup to theBest Action Movie, had me on my Nerves😳. For a moment, I thought you Skipped RRR completely 😬 But the way you praised it, gave me GOOSEBUMPS 😁. you have no Idea what RRR means to us Indians. Thank you for Recognising the Movie 🙏.
Really liked it as well ! In case you're interested, cult classic means that it wasn't popular at the time of release but became popular only later. EEAAO was very popular this year, so it will probably become a classic, just not a cult one ;)
What a perfect list! Sublime, brilliant, to the point, objective! Congratulations CineFix, in a sea of hacks of all colours and political left/right you are still No1 youtube channel on movies! Thank you!
Over the years your channel has shown me so many fantastic movies. You're almost entirely responsible for my new found love of movies over the past 5+ years and for showing me most of my now favorite movies. Thank you.

Pearl is the best horror movie of the year. Mia Goth's 6 minute one shot monologue is Oscar worthy. She carried the whole film on her back turning horror into an artistic character study.
Top 10 Films of 2022 for me: #10: The Batman #9: Pearl #8: Barbarian #7: Bones and All #6: Decision to Leave #5: Bardo #4: X #3: The Northman #2: Top Gun Maverick #1: Tar Honorable Mentions: Breaking, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Black Phone, Elvis, The Outfit, Smile, Scream 5, Terrifier 2, The Menu, Nope, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio
It’s a great film. It’s really just an excuse for Linklater to talk about his childhood. It’s basically a prequel to Dazed and Confused and Everybody Wants Some. Jack Black’s narration is wonderfully subdued. Between School of Rock, Bernie, and this, Linklater really brings the best out of JB.
Nice to see Moonage Daydream get an honourable mention at least but Lyra should have been in there too (or maybe yous aren't getting it until next year?), as should Mad God in the animated feature section. Can't complain about the picks though. Can we all take a second to appreciate how bonkers this year was for films? I have a theory that this is the year everything people were brewing in the lockdown then made after got released and that's why we've just had a deluge of good cinema.

@@axeavier Different Genre, there is no comparison between RRR & Top Gun Maverick in terms of story, characters or the action.
That said, both *RRR & Top Gun Marverick* are at No. 1 in my Top 10 movies of this year. EEAAO comes at No. 2 for me.
@@axeavier My opinion is Nope
@@axeavier Maybe I'm biased but theater experience of RRR was literally unbeatable for me so in my personal opinion, I would say no.
It's awesome that you gave some love to "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent". I just love that film and would argue it's top 5 Nick Cage.
Haha, right? first list i see that movie in, very deserved
That movie is so meta it's ultra meta. It's Nic Cage Nic Caging Nic Cage.
My top three this year are: Everything Everywhere All at Once, Tar, and Aftersun. This is a very good list and I'm adding a lot of the honorable mentions to my watchlist.
Just came back after watching Aftersun. It blew me away.
I’m refreshing and waiting for this yearly tradition. So glad to see this early! Thank you Cinefix! 💜
10 - Aftersun
9 - Aftersun
8 - Aftersun
7 - Aftersun
6 - Aftersun
5 - Aftersun
4 - Aftersun
3 - Aftersun
2 - Aftersun
1 - Aftersun
I love how you guys do a top ten that's really more like a top 50 or 60.
Love your list; wish _Mad God_ at least got a shoutout. 30 years is a helluva long time to spend on a film, and while it may not have been the _best_ animated film of the year, it was certainly the most impressive.
Aftersun is undeniably #1 so thank you.
1. Halloween Ends
2. The Batman
3. Pearl
4. Nope
5. X
6. Barbarian
7. Black Phone
8. Scream
9. Netflix TCM
10. Terrifier 2
Top 10 movies of the year for me :
1_ Top Gun maverick
2_ The Banshees of inisherin
3_ Everything Everywhere all at once
4_ The Batman
5_ The Fabelmans
6_ All Quiet On The Western Front
7_ The Northman
8_ Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio
9_ Pearl
10_ Glass Onion : A Knives Out Mystery
Great list!
🔥🔥
Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio was overrated. The best animated movie of 2022 was The Bob's Burgers Movie
@@joekerry741 yeah but this wasn't a strong year for cinema so pinocchio in the top 10 isn't surprising, 2023 is looking stacked tho.
@@hoopz5095 that's the kind of thing I expect someone who only keeps up with american blockbusters to say. it was a strong year for cinema, definitely the best year in a while
Great list, as usual. Consistency is hard and valuable. You guys are a treasure and UA-cam should be thankful to have you.
I was over here screaming internally at the fact that RRR wasn’t even an honorable mention for the action genre and then cheered.
Excellent list!
My personal top 10:
10.The Northman
9.Nope
8.Catherine Called Birdy
7.Athena
6.Bones & All
5. Aftersun
4. Flee
3. EEAAO
2.Pinocchio
1.After Yang
The Northman is the Vikingest piece of media ever made about the Norse. It is messy and all over the place, as a good oral tradition tends to be. The magical realism comes natural and at its core is a personal tale that we can all reflect ourselves in. Total masterpiece.
Cinefix never disappoints, but I was a little surprised not to see at least any mention of Watcher or Mad God in the horror section. Another great list with some new movies I'll have to see now nonetheless.
I just want to congratulate the person who wrote the script. Fantastic writing.
1. The Northman
2. The Batman
3. Top Gun: Maverick
4. Fourth of July
5. Avatar: The Way of Water
6. Jackass Forever
7. Dr. Strange In the Multiverse of Madness
8. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
9. Hustle
10. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
YES aftersun !!!! nothing moved me more this year
I want to see Aftersun so bad! I subscribed to MUBI app just to see it but it was not available, I guess because of my country or region. I hope MUBI released it soon here! 🙏😢
Cinema but nervous if it’s actually good
there are free VPN like urban that you can change the country or region and get access.
It has been in my watchlist for months already but still no way for me to see it
You should use a VPN in that way you can watch movies that are available in diffrent countries. I recomend
"Hola VPN" jus because is free.
That's MUBI GO. It's screening in the theaters for now. It'll be available to stream next month, I believe. And yes, do get a VPN to use MUBI to its full potential.
Alright kids, grab the popcorn. It’s time for the annual tradition of watching Cinefix’s best of list.
Aftersun, yessss. Sublime film. Absolutely adored it
Please make Top 10 lists in the same format for each past year! Would love to see similarly designed lists for 1940-2011!
15:50 RRR .. Thank me later
You guys are one of my favorite channels. Somehow y’all always manage to mention films I haven’t even heard of yet. Great video once again
Maybe they’re hoping it’s good run of other awards will ensure it is considered…
‘Aftersun’ is achingly beautiful and heart-wrenching in all the best ways.
I was honestly waiting for this specific list! I simply loved Everything Everywhere, I hope it becomes a cult classic, it's so good!
Favourite movie ever
Really liked it as well ! In case you're interested, cult classic means that it wasn't popular at the time of release but became popular only later. EEAAO was very popular this year, so it will probably become a classic, just not a cult one ;)
Cinefix knows how to write and narrate a Top Ten. Definitely one of my Top Five, Top Ten Channels on UA-cam. Never stop. Please. Happy New Year.
Thank you.
This has to be the best top 10 movies of the year video.
Far far far from it. Far...once again...Far.
Its definitely in the top 10
No this is the top 10 movies of 2022 people didn't watch lol.
@@LoveTheGiant Top 10 movies _you_ didn't watch. There's a difference.
The Northman was definitely movie of the year. Top 10 of all time IMO
When IGN took over, I thought this channel would become a dumpster fire. I'm so grateful that this just chugs along and continues to make amazing content.
That RRR plot twist 😂
They got me there too 😆 But I was pleasantly surprised.
I’m so happy RRR got that love. And looking forward to watching #2 and #1
'Everything Everywhere All At Once' is my number one. Ever since it was announced, I always knew it was going to be.
One of the best in 2022 maybe, But "Ever" defiantly not
Everything Everywhere All At Once is a must see for everyone. It's one of the best movies and not just 2022 but all time.
It makes my Top 5 of 2022 but I don't think it's one of the greatest movies ever made
Let’s see, going by their genres
1. Comedy-The Menu
2. Horror-Pearl
3. Thriller-All Quiet on the Western Front
4. Animation-Lightyear (pun intended, it was a light year for animation)
5. Documentary-n/a (haven’t gotten into the medium yet)
6. Fantasy-The Northman
7. Action Epic-RRR
8. Sci-fi- Avatar the Way of Water
9. Prestige Drama-Tar
10. Indie Drama-The Whale
A very solid year for everything except animation (though I have not seen Apollo, so maybe I’ll reconsider).
Very nice choicees, thanks Cinefix! Here is my list:

3. Vortex
4. The Batman
5. The Menu

I was scared that RRR wouldn't be mentioned then I heard the intro previous to the reveal and I was grinning
My Top Five:
1) Everything, Everywhere, All At Once
2) Avatar: the Way of Water
3) Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness

I watched RRR with my wife thinking it was going to be, so bad it's good. By the end I was cheering for those two. So damn good.
HELL YEAH RRR. I was already hyped to see Top Gun on the list and you blew my mind with that twist. I could not be happier with this pick.
Wanted to say THANK YOU! we watched RRR bc of this post & likely may not even heard of even heard of it otherwise. You absolutely NAILED this review, we LOVED ❤ this movie & have told everyone we know about your review & to watch RRR. Great pic! Great recommendation! 😄👍🏻
I can't believe they snubbed 2001 Drunken Matrix Bridesmaids,Stalkers and Whispers as the best Scifi Action Comedy Kungfu Existensial Family Drma.
Pearl is the best horror movie of the year. Mia Goth's 6 minute one shot monologue is Oscar worthy. She carried the whole film on her back turning horror into an artistic character study.
that was the only redeeming thing about that franchise
Shush up about mia goth already she mid
Aftersun is a masterpiece
the RRR subversion made me go absolutely nuts. HECK YEAH. Love you guys.
The ending of All Quiet on the Western Front just messed my head up. Beautiful, tragic, beautiful cinematic experience
putting RRR above Maverick. CINEFIX HAS NEVER LET ME DOWN
1- The Woman King
2- Wakanda Forever
3- Nope
4- Top Gun: Maverick
5- Avatar: Way of Water
6- Elvis
7- Hustle
8- Glass Onion
9- Prey
10- The Good Nurse
Oh my goodness- I loved aftersun. What a movie!
Ah yes, the venerable sci-fi kung-fu action-comedy existential family-dramas: Fanny and Alexander, It's A Wonderful Life, Little Miss Sunshine etc. 😎
The Kung Fu bits are in the extended director's cuts, I believe
It’s subtextual king fu
Waited almost last 3 months for this video and finally it comes out, and it's awesome!!! Not expect RRR in this, you guys are crazy😂😎
Only praise for "Crimes of the Future", I saw, yet.

No Aftersun?
Everything, Everywhere All at Once is so good. One of the best ever.
One of the best in 2022 maybe.but "Ever" defiantly not
I haven’t seen Apollo 10 1/2, but I think it’s cool that Jack Black is involved since his mom worked for NASA on the Apollo 11 project.
I have a theory that this is the year everything people were brewing in the lockdown then made after got released and that's why we've just had a deluge of good cinema.
mad god got mentioned in the 2021 video
