The adjustment lever that controls the thickness of the dough is very stiff on my machine. My machine is 5 years old. Do you need to oil that periodically? Do I clean that area as well?

Sounds like the hub may have become congealed with oil from the plates. You may need a service! Where about are you based and we can recommend an engineer 😊😊
