MCID is experimental and I understand if you don't like it right away. I listened to it a lot and it's just now starting to grow on me. The concert in cologne was helping for sure. Some people say "the new album is just not Highly Suspect" and I have to disagree. The band is constantly going through changes, with their current state of mind newly gained experiences always being a massive factor for their sound and this album is just a snapshot of how they felt in the moment they wrote it. This is an excerpt of an Interview with Ryan about this effect: "I think the environment definitely presents a set of influences. Being in a small beach town where there is no real tangible danger and everything is just like smoking weed and relax…that was the music that we made. " (Refering to their first self-titled album) "Then we moved to NYC, where is a real sense of danger, there are gun shots in your back all the time. We were young, we were starting over, we had no money. We were working hard and we were starving in a dangerous area surrounded by cultures from everywhere. So, that put an edge on our music."
I respect that they're doing their own thing and evolving. That's fine. But if it goes in the MCID direction then I guess I'll just be happy with the first few albums and accept their new stuff is gonna suck to me.
I don't think the album is bad. I just hope they don't start to consistently sound like everyone else. Like certain songs to me are to poppy, and I hope they pick a sound that makes them stand out. They could be the next new sound if they play their cards right.
Yeah it's weird how music effects us, you can listen to an album a couple times and be like meh, but then I'm like that fifth or 6th listen something just clicks and your brain and it's your favorite shit, I guess just like any other sense smell,taste,sound is a powerful one for me but I smell what you're stepping in LOL
I like how every album is different. This one is more reggae, Mister Asylum is more rock, and MCID is just a little mixture of everything♥️♥️ this band has some MAJOR longevity with their style

These guys are about to blow the fuck up main stream. They are incredibly talented. I can see them having a similar trajectory to Incubus, aging within the industry like a fine wine, continuing to grow and evolve and stay relevant, because they are THAT GOOD.
Me and my friend Jaiden absolutely love highly suspect, we've both heard all of their studio-release songs over 30 times each. So for us to find a "brand new" album, is absolutely incredible. My mother showed me this band, originally i didn't like them very much. At the time I only liked rap and pop, so something similar to My Name is Human was "emo" and "goth" for me at the time, and i absolutely despised it. I was utterly disgusted by the opening lines in Serotonia, but shortly after she passed in 2019, i suddenly discovered a newfound enjoyment for this band, one i had never had before. It was then, that I went on and created a Spotify account, just to listen to TBWDW. Then i moved on to Mister Asylum and I just got totally hooked. MCID wasn't really my type (besides for canals, Upperdrugs, SOS, 16, and Arizona). And now that i've found this totally fresh album, it gives me that same feeling I had way back when, discovering this band for the "first time".
Check out "New Day" by them, that's another old good one that never got released properly :) I swear those guys have consistently dropped incredible music for years, and it's getting harder and harder to find their old stuff again :(

None of us are exactly as we were as a child, much less 2011.you grow as a person and if a band, as a band holding on and letting go of traits. If a river stops flowing it becomes stagnant. With that said I actually can't stand some their songs. Others are simply inspired and absolute genius.... I dig this different style ALOT. your right MCID is not highly suspect but I don't think they are trying to be.
