- Borderline Personality Disorder is a cluster B personality disorder that's often confused with Bipolar disorder. It's generally derived from trauma, especially in childhood and adolescence. The diagnostic criteria for BPD is a pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image and affects, and marked impulsivity beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five or more of the following:
1. Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment (Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5)
2. A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterised by alternating between extremes of idealisation and devaluation
3. Identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self
4. Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g. spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating) (Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5)
5. Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior
6. Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g. intense episodic dysphoria, irritability or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days)
7. Chronic feelings of emptiness
8. Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g. frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights)
9. Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms
Hi, I'm Shannon and I'm a clinical counselor in training and Masters student; I'm also autistic and self-diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder due to childhood trauma specifically revolving around being severely bullied. I earned my Associate in Arts for Psychology/Sociology at Richland Community College, my Bachelor of Science for Psychology with a Criminal Justice Certificate from Millikin University and am currently enrolled in the Masters program for Clinical Counseling at Northwestern University. I've spent much of my life within alternative subcultures, particularly as a Goth, among punks, metal heads, etc. Upon graduation and licensure, I plan to specialize in autism and trauma counseling with sub-specializations in attachment and personality disorders, bullying, and alternative sub-cultures. I'm also a published horror and true crime author with all of my books available on amazon, just search "S.M. Cornthwaite". You can also find me on Tiktok and Instagram.
darcy coates has two more books of Gravekeeper out id love to see a review! also think I have many of the disorders you mentioned...
I may eventually review all of her books... but I'm going to move all reviews over to my ComicgeddonTV channel and make this one strictly about mental health... I'm not sure when I'll get around to it though, my uploads across channels have been minimal and will probably continue to be until I graduate with my Masters next year.
