JAPAN VLOGS - Travel Day! Manchester to Narita Airport. Bullet Train (Shinkansen) Tokyo to Kyoto

- Welcome to this new series of JAPAN VLOGS!!! Join me every Wednesday 5pm for a new vlog. I film every day from our trip in September 2019 showing you Kyoto, Tokyo, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Mount Fuji, Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea. Hope you enjoy!!
We start off at Manchester Airport. We booked with ANA but the carrier was Austrian Airlines. We dropped down in Vienna then our second flight landed at Narita Airport in Japan. Instead of staying in Tokyo we carried on travelling onto Kyoto. We got the Narita Express (NEX) using our JR pass and then swapped at Shinagawa onto a Shinkansen (the bullet train) to Kyoto. We picked up our internet at Narita Airport - we booked it via Ninja WiFi. Once we get to Kyoto, we check into our hotel right next to Kyoto Train Station. We stayed at the Dormy Inn. For dinner we head to the Ramen floor at Kyoto station and head to sleep early. Watch as I progressively look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards haha.

I absolutely loved this. I know I will never go to Japan so I am grateful that you are sharing your trip. I love that you film in real time so I can get a true feeling of being in Japan. I even loved the views out of the train of the houses. It's something you don't often see. I'm surprised that many of the signage is in English. Thanks Claire....and Simon!! Can't wait to see the rest of your trip.

A great travel day. The trains looked quite easy to navigate compared to what I though it would have been like. The stations didn't look to busy. Those steps were amazing. So many different things to eat, experiences to do. Really looking forward to the rest of your vlogs. Wednesday's aren't going to come round quick enough. Brilliant vlog.
Yeah not too busy at all, we did avoid a very busy station though by going through a quieter one so maybe that was key! The steps were so cool weren't they?! My family went to Japan in 2011 and the politeness and efficiency were the two things that have stuck with me. We used the JR Pass as well and went all the way out to Hiroshima. We didn't visit Fuji though. I can't wait to see that! These vlogs are going to be awesome! (all of your vlogs are)

Ooh wow I bet Hiroshima was amazing, we didn't get to go this time - but that's ok, it's good to leave something undone so that you have an excuse to go back haha. So many memories. You guys did GREAT traveling. Once coming back home to Tokyo from Hakone we were sitting in the correct seats on the train but we were on the wrong train!!!! Fortunately, that train was also going to Tokyo. I don't think as much English translations once you were outside of Tokyo. I am so excited about these videos. Also, so nice to see Simon again. Thank you both. Diane By the way, we cheated and stopped in Hawaii on our flights to Tokyo. So flight wasn't like 17 hours. Split up into 2 trips and a wonderful few days in Hawaii as well.
Hi Diane. Haha oh nooo sorry to hear about your train! We were so lucky we didn't have any problems with the trains, it could have been a lot worse! Yeah I think it's made for tourists now, they're equipped with English signs haha. Oh I bet Hawaii was amazing, the most relaxing place I've ever been to! Hope you will enjoy the rest of the series!

I had my first trip to Japan last year. I had quite similar experiences. So amazed by the japanese people, culture and food. We did also stay nearby Kyoto Station and ate Ramen there... twice. Looking forward to your next videos. Japan is georgous! Cant wait to return.

With my 7 day JR pass i went to Tokyo > Osaka > Okayama > Imabari > Onomichi > Hiroshima > (r)Tokyo > Kyoto > (r)Tokyo. Yes I got my money's worth. lol. I Love Japan. I keep going back because there's so many things to see, eat, and do! Love your vlog!

Claire - loved the travel day vlog!! I love seeing new places and their travel systems. I am so impressed with how clean & well kept everything is - just amazing. Also how easy it was to navigate with signs and how helpful everyone was in getting you where you needed to go. I have never watched any Japan trip vlogs before, so I am so excited about your vlogs. Have been looking forward to this series. As you know we were planning to visit Tokyo on the way back from Australia however, the ticket price from Tokyo to London cost more then the flight to Australia. We have decided to do japan as separate trip in 2021 where we will have more time. We are still going to Australia but coming back via shanghai, Still looking at getting some good tips from your vlogs jim and sue
Ah yes Japan definitely needs more time. I wish we had more time there! Australia is still on the bucket list but it might have to be on the back burner for now. Your Hong Kong stop off looked incredible I think we’d do the same hehe. Let me know if you book Japan for 2021 and if you have any questions you know where I am!

Aw sorry to hear that, it not as nerve-wracking as it seems I was so worried about trains etc but it was no where near as difficult as I thought. We stayed away from very busy places (like Tokyo station like I mentioned in the vlog) but yeah I understand it must be hard. Hope you get to go one day as it really is the most stunning place. Hope you will enjoy the next vlog!

Hi Claire. The trains did look brand new. Your trip looks fun so far. The shopping center with the TV screens on the stairs is spectacular. Everything was so pretty. That Ramen Soup you had looked so good. Its cold here so soup would be perfect to eat. 😉😀 🎀🏰💖

I know it was just a travel day but there were so many cool things. I love how modern and futuristic the train looked. All the food looks great, I've heard amazing things about their food. Did you guys get a chance to try a hot spring when you were in Kyoto? I'm taking copious notes since Japan is high on my bucket list. Can't wait to see the rest! Thanks again for sharing as always!

i took a picture of the locking your case system and sent it to my family whatsapp group LOL its a running joke on the eurostar that we cant stop leaning out and checking our bags. this is super interesting, really makes me want to go to japan! excited to watch the rest :)
