Both my bunnies are 10.5 years old at this point, I saved hundreds of pounds avoiding vet bills by simply asking the vet to prescribe me Emaprid, Cisapride and metacam so that the moment I notice the symptoms of stasis, i can administer the medications and forced feed them critical care. They have always bounced back within 3-6 hours with this protocol.
@simontwain1885 yes she's doing well!! She had a rough year with stasis episodes so I wanted to make this video to help educate people on the signs and symptoms, treatment, recovery and more in hopes it helps others recognize the early signs of GI stasis and how they can help their bunnies ❤️❤️
Something else that can be helpful during stasis events is syringe feeding them some water after critical care to help kinda wash it down. There really isn't any such thing as too much water and it helps a little more with keeping them hydrated. Something to keep in mind about metacam is that it can be hard on the gut. Without gut motility medication to go with it, giving metacam during upset tummy/stasis events can actually make things worse. Finally, in my experience generally rabbit savvy vets will send your bunny home with some gut motility medication during stasis events. I've never actually gone through all of the prescribed medication in a single stasis event, which means I have some leftover for a future one. In those cases, I've found it help to start those if the first round of gas medicine and critical care doesn't resolve the event in a few hours.
@tehlaziness yes we mention providing fluids after critical care during the treatment stage in this video 😊 this video is based on my own personal experiences as noted and we've only been advised to offer metacam till she can be seen by a professional vet. Keeping a rabbit first aid kit on hand is always good to be prepared.
Often this can be avoided if young bun owners avoid many young bun influencers' videoa that show "treats" of bananas, carrots, fruits that are fed in amounts more than a thimbleful a couple times a week. Honestly buns do not even need fruits. Baby has done just fine for 18 months with hay, organic pellets and a cup and a half of recommended greens and herbs. In fact, she eschews sweets. This will not guarantee never having stasis, but just like humans not smoking, avoids encouraging illness.
@IMeMineWho yes a proper diet is very important for overall gut function as we mention in the video. Blueberry hasn't received any fruits or carrots for over two years after a very serious stasis episode. Unfortunately you are correct this does not always fully prevent stasis but it can help. As we mentioned in this video most of stasis episodes are from a underlying condition such as the ear infection she had earlier this year which caused a GI stasis episode. Rabbits are very sensitive but I hope this video helps owners to recognize signs and symptoms, treatment, prevention and more.
@BlueberrytheBunny Yes. Just like smoking can increase chances of cancer in humans, so can fruits (very scared if RFK Jr. and Oz gets confirmed about all produce.) And you just drove home why bunny owners should have at least 1 full checkup a year at their vets! Hopefully Blue will be a healthier bun from now on! Bun owners take heed of our warnings!

Thank you so much for this video. Maisy has only had GI stasis once, thankfully, but this video is good to keep on hand. Great information.
I am so happy to hear that you found this video helpful! ❤

Thank you!
I feel it's not healthy to take bunny's outside were they can pick up unhealthy foods . Hope Blue berry is back to good health.🙏
