"THEN DO BETTER FOR US NOW!"
Spoiled is having people work for you for free and then also bitch about it.
💯
I agree.
True dat I have family like that and I was married to her spoiled daughter.
Yup!!!!!!
Spoiled is being able to do unpaid work to get a foot in the door without becoming homeless and starving. Only people who can fall back on wealthy family are able to do that.
Businesses offer unpaid internships in part to reserve these positions for the children of wealthy parents (who can afford to support themselves without also working a second job on top of going to school) - it’s a mechanism for hoarding job opportunities among the elite classes.
Very true of the fashion and fashion-oriented industries e.g. women's magazines and fashion magazines in particular, like Vogue, Women's Wear Daily; P.R and jobs like stylists.
Those industries are centered in high rent, expensive cities like N.Y.C. or London. So to live there and work as an unpaid intern there or in fairly low paid, full-time jobs and still afford a decent standard of living required that you have other means of support.
And there's no shortage of sons and daughters of very well-off families who love fashion or are eager to work in glamorous industries and get to meet and socialize with these famous designers or editors (Anna Wintour) etc.
@@SY-ok2dq They also have social connections.
@@le13579 Of course connections and network/who you know/ who you're related to, is important in the world of fashion, design, P.R., entertainment etc.
Kate Middleton had a job at U.K. fashion label Jigsaw - basically she did nothing and didn't even come in to the office that often. It was arranged for her to "work" there, for public image purposes. So it looked like Kate had a career and did something, whilst she waited around to get married to Prince William.
@@SY-ok2dq I guess I meant it more along the lines that in high fashion the relatives of the rich kids are the customers. The kids themselves are future customers, so it's a business decision to prefer them as interns over the average Joe. Not saying that's fair etc.
But we are pretty much saying the same thing.
@@le13579 Yes that's also a big part of it. And it extends into the modelling world, with the children of socialites and trust fund types getting signed by modelling agencies e.g. Lydia Hearst, Ivanka Trump, the somewhat short (for a high fashion model) Cara Delevigne, daughter of an heiress and a father from the aristocracy. Granted, Delevigne does have the striking looks that agencies would certainly sign anyway, but her sister Poppy Delevigne, also a model, does not. Mind you, Poppy never had anywhere near the success of Cara - having the society connections and name alone aren't enough, if you don't have the face and figure to reach the higher levels. Cara was spotted by her schoolmate, the daughter of the owner of Storm model agency, a top agency in the U.K. So again, you can see the importance of connections and the social element to this.

At this point if a major corp does unpaired internships it’s just a cover to give nepo kids “job experience” since they’re the only ones who can afford it.
This is absolutely spot on. To get a job you need experience. How do I get experience without getting a job? Unpaid internships. But how will I pay rent and eat? Get a job? It’s a stupid system rigged so that only those who are born into the club can become members.
YES! I would have interned in Washington if I could have afforded it during college. But I had to stay home and work at a grocery store so that I could buy books the next year. If I ever become really rich, I'm endowing my college with a fund that not only pays the direct costs of student internships, but also pays for their lost wages if they have a summer job.
When I read about major corporations and brokerage houses setting up tables in the fraternity houses in the Ivy League schools to attract the bros to their business, that told me all I needed to know.

Yes and no. There are a lot of internships during university that indeed is where you learn something, where you cost valuable time to the employees and where you are in most cases not really helpful. But!!!!! This should be limited, and definitely not be applied to a 30 year old who has one or more university degrees, works absolutely independent and provides valuable work.

Tbh this is the difference between people who have money and don’t. I grew up working class , family on welfare across from a meth house. When I got a loan and went to college my classmates did unpaid internships cause they could. They got experience but I needed a paycheck. And that’s how the rich continues know who is well off and who isn’t
Both started at the bottom tbh. But one wants to keep exploiting the system that gave her a hard time.
True. Not everyone can afford to do work for free.
This is very real
This isn’t talked about enough.
I remarked upon this in a different comment thread--but COMPLETELY agreed. I went to an expensive college (on scholarship and federal aid) and my parents lived in a nice house so I didn't consider myself "poor" by any means, but I could have never had a fancy internship in Boston or Washington like I would have wanted. I worked as a cashier in a grocery store each summer to pay for books and give me a little bit of pocket money the following year.
My school DID offer financial aid for internships that would pay toward your cost of living expenses, but there was nothing to cover the wages you'd LOSE by working for free during the summer.
I've decided that if I ever become really fortunate and become rich, I'm endowing my college with a fund that covers not internship-related living expenses, but the wages lost from not working your summer job.
Excellent acting by Aubrey.

Well said... most people have that "in my day, we had it worse, so I can be a jerk" attitude, even though there is literally no way to tell whoch life is harder... New generation new set of problems...
Sure some people need an attitude adjustment, but that has nothing to do with the generation. Every generation has good people and assholes...
But that girl DID have an attitude problem. So did my daughter, then I took time to teach her grown up manners.
@@meeeka"then i took time to teach her grown up manners" so condescending... maybe someone needs to teach you grown up manners too. 😂😂
Exactly. It’s arrogance because they feel the need to prove that they’ve accomplished something, so they feel the need to continue with the bad behavior.
I’m so glad we’re talking about this now. Thank you
I’ve heard the line “You think everyone’s out to get you. Nobody’s trying to get you.” so many times in my life, including work settings. I’m sure at times I was overreacting out of my own insecurities, but there have definitely been times where I was gaslit, and this scene kind of confirmed it for me. It’s almost like watching s reenactment of what happened to me at my last job. There are people who will do anything in their power to make the time you spend at work as terrible as they can, while still being subtle enough to be able to project and call you crazy and portray you as the one that’s causing issues. It is absolutely disgusting and a very difficult situation to find yourself in. I feel for anyone who had to go through this or is experiencing it now or in the future. Don’t let them see you upset. Play the game and be smart about it. Manipulate them just like they’re manipulating you, and actively look for another job simultaneously. When you get another opportunity, then let it all out if you feel like you need to. 💪🏾
I've never been told this in my life lol
Don't let them have it. Just live your best life.
Concur. I don't manipulate though. I stay true to my morals, ethics and integrity, maintaining consistency, and in the end, even when I was fired, that sent red flags up the chain because they saw a good woman with outstanding work ethics, good relationships with coworkers and customers, but oddly bad evals being fired. I was their best employee, and I knew it. When I saw nepotism\favoritism going on, how it was causing stress, extra shifts, resentment, and drop in morale I addressed my manager that kept pushing it aside. I'm a veteran btw. So I kept addressing my manager about it, asking when they are going to fire the offenders because the discipline wasn't working. Suddenly I was fired. Then the department was investigated, and my manager, dept head, and those people involved in the nepotism ring got fired. So even though I didn't have a job, my former coworkers finally got some peace.

@@lisetteem588 aprentices are paid...less but they do get paid
@@sarenastralis9969 internships offer free training, experience, networking and career opportunities.
It’s invaluable to a person just starting out and who would not even get an interview otherwise.
Great role and film for Aubrey. She really killed it
What movie is this?
Emily the criminal
I LOVE THIS MOVIEEEEE ITS REPRESENTS THE TIME WE LIVE IN
AB is sensational I love her.
It’s like a convert with a professor I had once about their audacity to treat me like I wasn’t paying to be there
She is awesome.
Love that last line.
Getting people to work without pay should be deemed illegal.
Why? Its a personal decision…..
@@nadominhoca personal decision that should be illegal
It’s par for the course for interns.
Internships should be illegal. It's a tool of class control. High paying managerial career paths start with internships. If you can't afford to work a year or two without income you are effectively kept out of these career paths. It's a buffer keeping everyone where they belong. Wouldn't want lower class people in important positions where they could rock the boat.
@@AnteaterOne Only in America. In Europe, if you work, you are paid, because you are working...
"I am entitled to your labor" is such an American concept.
Slavery is not a modern concept, friend.

*Art imitates life.*

Love this - dont get hooked by side topics, stick to your point: work should be paid.
You can do it at your Company…
@@nadominhoca Yep! Unions are coming back big time.

These are talented actresses telling the story that could not be expressed any other way but through this dialogue. Aubrey is ridiculously good..
