Thanks for checking out this review and a look at air travel in August 2022. Most restrictions in this video have been relaxed, though some, remain. But at least the food was delicious and plentiful on this flight!
Hi There! Truly appreciate your review. We're headed to Tokyo by way of Toronto later this year and very interested in Row 12 (bulkhead). Do you mind if I ask how tall you are? Trying to figure out if Row 12 will work for someone that is 6 ft tall. Thanks!!
We had an economy flight on Air Canada from Toronto to Paris that was six hours late in September. Air Canada gave us a coupon for lunch while we waited and informed us we could apply for a reimbursement because of the late flight. Once on board the flight was good, we didn’t bother with the food. Our only complaint was lack of leg room and the bathrooms are pretty dirty. It’s too bad they aren’t maintained during the flight. We arrived home in late September applied for the reimbursement and received $400 each within a week. We would have preferred not being late departing but overall we were pretty happy with our experience.
Thanks for the review I was watching you at Pearson and the I got my upgrade Yul-Nrt in two days and I felt like you, very excited and happy! So I am gonna enjoy my 13 hours flight to Tokyo in less than 48 h! Pretty happy I got my upgrade! ✈️
Thanks Andrew for this enjoyable and informative review. Air Canada’s premium economy product looks to be well worth it, especially with all that food! It’s always a pleasure to arrive at Narita airport, thank you for reminding me how much I enjoy travelling to Japan. Hope you had a good sleep when you got home. 😊
In fairness, I think it's the same food in regular economy with Air Canada (and any of the Star Alliance members I've flown with have had the same meal service). It's just not plated: it comes to you in the tinfoil that they heat it up in (or in the case of salads, cakes etc the plastic that its stored in). I've never been hungry and my wife usually has more than she can eat.
You were lucky. We travelled from Montreal to London on Air Canada in September. It was not a good flight and the food was not good. The "breakfast" just before Heathrow was a croissant shaped bread roll that had never heard the word "butter", (with nothing to spread on it) and a small pot of yoghurt. The flight was 2 hours late leaving Montreal, the boarding procedures were confusing and congested and Air Canada does not think that people who book together should sit together. I was in one row and my partner of nearly 40 years was in the row behind. The cabin crew were mainly noticeable for their absence.
Sad to hear you didn't have an enjoyable time. If you don't reserve your seats at time of booking, you can choose them while checking in online. Checkin opens 24h before the departure time, so check in asap and you may be able to get seats next time. I hope you have more enjoyable flights in the future.
I just flew with Air Canada back in April from YVR to NRT for a family visit. Economy Class there and Business Class Back. And also, when you were pushing back at YYZ, the plane across from your plane was the exact registration that I took.
Great review. I'm taking this premium economy flight early May. Seating looks the same as Business in the early 2000s before the pods. My business class travel days are over but I'm expecting a much better experience in premium than in economy
Well definitely Air Canada's Premium Economy puts Lufthansa's Premium Economy to shame! Now I am thinking why in the heck didn't I book Air Canada to Frankford. Oh yeah that's right I am going on a tour. I will though remember the AC premium for future long-haul flights. And with the service you received well worth the price even if you have no points to go with it. Great video safe flight s
Never flew Lufthansa but I am surprised to hear your assessment! I may have to head over to Frankfurt myself! I find p econ a good deal for long hauls. You may be able to do a bid-upgrade prior to your flight. If so, that's another way get a premium seat. Enjoy your trip! Thanks for the comment!
Already paid for it times 2, wife and me. The tour, economy is included, but I wanted more comfort, so I dished out extra. I think the majority of the tour. is seating together in economy. Maybe I will try for an upgrade to business lol you never know unless you ask. I'm flying on 747-400 Don@@theglobalpeasant
I was thinking of upgrading, but you saved me some money (I'm not a member). The seats do look nice but I'm a smaller guy so I really don't need the room and nothing else looked worth the extra ~$500 that us non-members pay for the privilege. Great video, covered everything I was curious about!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Even for me, $500 would be a bit steep for the upgrade. The bulkhead row in economy is a good call ...if you want a bit more space sans the $500. Alternatively, if you're traveling with someone, I'd suggest the seats in the rear of the plane where it narrows to 2 seats by the window (I choose these often)
All flight routes are all computerized by new weather satellites that make flights run a lot faster and smoother. Jets now follow other jets like a car following a snowplough in a snowstorm. It keeps a invisible canal constantly being maintained . A YVR to Montreal only takes 7 minutes than a YVR to Toronto. It used to take 5.5 hours , now under 4.25hours . A Vancouver Flight can outbeat a Toronto flight to Germany because the route is constantly being ploughed by American flights in the sky
Yes. I always choose the bulkhead if available. You definitely get more space than the other two rows. I did not have problems with lines There is a galley on the otherside of the curtain, so there is space for people to wait there.
I took a fright last summer from Montreal to Edmonton of A/C Business class and you're right, the Premium Economy seats look exactly like domestic Business Class seats. Were the alcoholic drinks included with your meal?
Eupgrade requirements depend on booking class. There's a table which outlines how many credits are required. This is an intl flights +5000mi, so its the most expensive to upgrade.
Wondering if the Premium Economy section is accessed by passengers in the Economy section when they are walking up and down the aisles for exercise, or is there a curtain the premium Economy ? Trying to decide if its worth it to pay quite a bit more to upgrade
Yes they can. Theres a lavatory in front of the p.econ section. I always divide the upgrade price per flight hours. If I'm happy with the number i go with it. Good luck!
Thanks for the review. I am going soon with the premium economy to Asia also 13h30 flight. And I was wondering if I should take bulkhead row or back as I like to lie down as much as possible. I already reserved it but I might change for the back row. Did you worry about bothering the person in the back with the reclined seat?? Thanks again for your nice video 😊🙏
There's lots of room in premium economy, so no need to worry about the individual behind you. However, in the bulkhead row you can't store any bags on the floor during take off/landing. Glad you enjoyed the video. Have fun in Asia!
On transoceanic flights, once the lights dim everyone reclines the seat, so everyone still has the same room. Even in regular economy, it's never been a problem for me. Enjoy your flight!
I have a flight to Tokyo in a week, thank you for the amazing video , but my sit is in a economy so it makes me nervours how they will look , can you please tell me if you see the economy area how its ?
This washroom was on the other side of the bulkhead where I was sitting. There's also a galley there. Past the galley is another set of curtains for business class ... as long as you dont enter business class you're fine. The washroom you see here can be used by anyone.
That's the million dollar question when it comes to this type of travel, isn't it! It's very difficult, but for me, it's best to follow the local time. When you arrive in Tokyo, it'll be evening, so try and sleep. The next day stay outside all day until evening and keep moving (the moment you lie down you're toast!) Good luck and enjoy your trip!
I’m going to be flying in premium economy soon and will also be seated in the bulkhead seats row 12 (first row in premium economy). I think I’m feeling anxious about my carry-on because there is no storage in front of me. Is there guaranteed overhead bin space for those in the front row? Or do i have to get lucky with getting a spot for my stuff. Thank you
If you're flying in prem economy, you'll get a higher zone number, so you'll board earlier giving you access to the overhead bins. You're not guaranteed space, but less passengers in prem econ = more bin space / passenger. I never had a problem. Board when your zone number is called and you'll be fine. Enjoy your flight!
Had a trip a while back where the AC power did nothing to power my laptop, only my phone. Do you recall if you were able to power your laptop? (different carrier in my experience but still curious overall)
Good question. Lots of factors to consider. Upgrade would first depend on whether your ticket is upgradeable in the the first place...or even if there is a prem econ on your aircraft. Best advice would be to check your ticket then head over to the airlines website.
planning on going to Japan at the end of June . already have 3 vaccinations shots . is there anything else i have to do when i leave Canada . is there some kind of procedure i must do before they let me board the flight to Tokyo from Pearson ? . i will be travelling Air Canada
Register with the Japan travel web website. You can upload your vaccine certs there to move things along faster when you arrive. You can also do the customs card on the site which is fast. The website blue/yellow screen and or your vaccine cert. Will probably be checked at your departing airport. Masks are no longer "required" in Japan, for the most part.
This was not a bid upgrade. It was upgraded with eupgrade credits. The end of the video has the total charge. Air Canada's website has tables which detail how much upgrades are with eupgrade credits for specific regions.
What i find to be really depressing with the 787-9 is that the crew turns all windows black to enforce passengers to sleep through more than 10 hours of their journey. It honestly gets really depressing by the end of the flight
I find all airlines do this, and I'm not a fan one bit! Even worse in winter since you depart / land well past dark! If it's late morning / early afternoon on the ground below, there's no reason for it. Often, I go to the galley and open the window and the staff usually don't mind!
@@wnose it's honestly pretty unnecessary tbh, at least allow me to turn off the shades if i want to, not everyone should be forced to be depressed in the dark for 10+ hours LOL

No noticeable difference in seat width. Foot rest? In the bulkhead row? Even if there was one, I tend not to use 'em.

The flights to Canada are so expensive it’s ridiculous. Often you’ll find the premium way cheaper than the economy. Makes no sense.
