- This is Keith Carlock's openning solo on his clinic in South Korea 2012.
Most korean drummer are big fan of him.
And every drummer in my country is looking forward to seeing him again.
World best drummer.
Keith Carlock
I like how most of Keith's solos are built around time patterns as opposed to just open playing. His context to improvisation against time patterns is really refreshing.
That snare is absolutely killer.
4160 hard to beat em!
As a drummer, to me what really sets Keith apart is his left foot.
Obviously, every part of his groove & skillset is world class… but I honestly don’t think I’ve seen a drummer with such insane versatility & control dynamics in how he incorporates that hat pedal. Just an insane player, truly one of the masters & how lucky are we to be able to see it.
never gets boring... that's something
I listen to Keith the same way I listen to music. Just turn it on, close my eyes, and enjoy. Honestly, though I am a drummer, there is no other drummer's solos that I can just sit and listen to like this.
exactly my thoughts
Nate Smith? Adam Deitch? Carter MCLEAN????
Buddy is god!!!!! And hell ya I like Kieth
Same thing brother...!
Check out Joe Morello's big drum solo.
You'll see/ hear the same.
So here I am watching this again.
I just can't get over how good those drums sound!! I know..the player...the room..the mic's. ..you take all that away..those drums would still sing!!
I'm sold on Gretch.
That 16 inch floor tom is like God's voice!
That kit just sounds fantastic. I *love* the bass drum particularly and of course, Keith's playing is just so damn interesting and absorbing. Over my (58) years I've listened to all the best drummers out there, and Keith's solos are just amazing.
not watching but listening I could superimpose Tony Williams in my mind's ear's eye lol ...... or Billy Cobham
If you had to define his style in two words: Always interesting.
Omg.... The sound of that kit! Keith is such an inspiring drummer. I just recently learned of him but I absolutely love his style.
I don't know why more Keith Carlock fans haven't liked this yet. The performance and recording quality is superb...
Respectfully I disagree. Not fond of the poor taste in eq and compression, not to mention the over panning and click artifacts alllll over the place that make trying to appreciate Keith’s playing damn near impossible. Maybe this comment will shed some light on your question.
THIS IS HOW DRUMS ARE MEANT TO BE RECORDED. The sound is just perfect, you can hear EVERy small little accent on everything!
Super Groooovy...Not just a drum solo...this is music ..proof that drums alone can create a complete song!
So true
I LOVE HIS STYLE I have seen him in Paris at the Bag' SHOW it was incredible
Holy cow…I was there for this a decade ago. Never thought I’d be able to watch such a well produced recording of it ever! I was entranced right from the first downbeat.
Amazing drummer... timing is immaculate.... Feel is sooo good... Looove the bass drum sound
I worship every second of this.
For Keith, any and every cymbal is his ride and his crash!
Brilliant drummer + Brilliant cymbals + Brilliant drums + Brilliant sound + Brilliant video = BRILLIANCE...PURE BRILLIANCE! Thanks Keith:)
In summary, bloody brilliant.
Incredible drum solo with groove, unique style and creativity. This guy is a genious. Underrated in my opinion.
I really like the way this guy plays the drums! Fantastic!
the way he tunes his BD make it feel like its an extension of the rest of the kit, not dead and foreign to the rest of the tones. it's so killer. He the baddest.
Perfect sounds.good to listening this.
A genius on drums!
Outrageous! He just sorta relentlessly grooves, ferocious. As great as a soloist he is, I much MUCH prefer hearing him play with bands cuz to me that's where you REALLY hear how great he is. He plays songs, he plays musically to the 9th degree, and just really plays the song
Keith's ghost notes are back from the dead baby...They are so ALIVE!!!:)
It's amazing how Keith can play sounding silky smooth yet solid as a rock. And his left hand is just ridiculous!!
No one does feeling like KC...look at his set up...none of this electronic bollocks and being able to play fast is not chops...the drums speak for themselves...it just depends on what you want them to say...and by the way that bass drum is probably the best I've ever heard...
👊🏻🥁👌🏻
FANTASTIC "ORIGINAL DRUMMER"
So Awesome!!
Not many solo's swing, this one does for sure, beautiful !
Those hi hats are bloody fire.
This is what i call Grooved Technicality.
Can somebody add a click to this so we can see how much he ACTUALLY displaces the beats? It’s genius.
Keith, einfach geil! Du bist der Größte 👌❤️
You can hear that snare all the way back in the U.S.
the production value on this is intense.. great job!
It really is. For a drum clinic, you can hear every drum and cymbal in the recording - you even get the tone from the bass drum! I admit this sound is a bit too close mic-ed for me, but I can't blame any of the engineering for this sound, because it's excellent.
If there was one complaint, it'd be that the video was edited by someone who valued drama over letting Keith's presence do all the speaking. A bit too much with the cut-shots and the forced focus, etc. This is a minor complaint at best, though...
@@sanityinaseaofmadness7353 but i like this kind of editing...make me feel the presence of every tone he hit...🙇🙇🙇
If you want to play with feeling...and soul...your journey begins and ends with Keith Carlock...period 🥁
Oh, and not with Adam Deitch who is nowhere near as redundant in drum solos, or Stanton More or Steve Gadd, or The JB's, or Steve Jordan, or Questlove, or Virgil, or that guy...
His left hand is amazing.
That snare is too.
USA custom snares sound fantastic.
The ghost note chug :-)
So is his left foot.
And his right foot
great solo and great engineering / production of the video
Man those drums sound good!!!!!
Those floor toms roar like thunder!!!
Swings in a very middle eastern kinda way - brilliant, really.
Good feeling merci 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👌🌠🌏
Lovely great sound and flow...:)
Awesome technique!!!
That snare sound!!!!!!!!;;;;
This video will became one of my audio tests. Such an outstanding production!!! Put a headphone and put BS2B crossfeed, it's Keith playng in your room, and not in your head!!!
he has the perfect tom flam licks
Ever seen an actual living legend? No? Well, now you have.
Keith must be close friends with Steve Jordan. These guys play with the same values. Love it.
…add Brian Blade to that list.
@@philipgardiner2003 yep, agreed
THAT SNARE IS KILLER OMG😮😮😮😮😊
melodic Solo drum
😮
This guy's a demon, unbelievable!!
Yeah....Yeah... Yeah.😁👍
@ 3:00 even drum gods sometime drop a stick. That’s a comforting thought.
Здорово,прям входишь в ритм-транс!Настоящий Танец!!!
Left foot hihat always there as a time keeper steady at times and intermittent but always implied. whole body playing. Keith has a groove all his own. Now I know how to practice.
Best left hand, melodic.
Wow! Just Great! What Mics and cameras are in use here?
Carlocks montreux :-)
Pristine.Grace.Cannonball.
Where, what is H2???(like by Zoom???)
This mix is gorgeous.
Drum line guys can really play.
3:00 Damn, Keith even drops a stick better than I do!:)
If you've heared one of his, you have heared all of his.
Certainly seems that way... but if you're going to keep playing the same stuff I'd choose this every time!
Yeah, just like Steve Gadd. And I love it every time!
I’d like to know what snare drum he is using,it sound great!
Which Gretsch kit and snare are these...
I think it's an early Gretsch USA custom with COB Gretsch snare but not 100% for sure.
Who did the editing on this vid? 😂
Nice snare, but I think his new brass signature snare, sounds better.
It’s one the best around these days..
6:52____7:00😁👍
sounds good even on these crappy work speakers
Great drummer. LOVE that I can hear all of the ghost notes.
So why is the video editing so horrifically awful?
10:00 heavy and slow
These drums are talking !
An off day for KC. Interesting.
It sounds bit wired. Especially snare and bass.
I mean I like him but I could do this when I was 15
Unt drumlime a little
Why use one camera shot when you can maniacally switch between several and then snap zoom in and out in an utterly nonsensical way?
What's the point of gating Keith's bass drum !?!?! It kills 50% of is musicality right away....
So that’s what it was. I was wondering where that signature Carlock-Bass-Decay went.
Fckn AmAZING!!!!
Excellent 🤓🥁👍🏼
