In this Forty-Six & 2 guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play every note guitarist Adam Jones of Tool plays in this hard rock classic from their 1997 album AEnima.
You will need to tune your guitar to dropped "D" tuning in order to follow along with the original recording and this lesson video. Those notes will be, starting from the 6th string, D A D G B E.
Although not a very difficult song to play on the guitar from a technique standpoint, "Forty-Six & 2" contains numerous rhythmic challenges.
The first thing you will want to do is get the sound of the original recording in your ear to the point you can pretty much hum every guitar part. That level of familiarity with the song will help immensely when trying to put everything together.
After that, you can begin going through the video lesson. This video lesson is extremely detailed. I will go through the song in the exact order that every guitar riff occurs. I will also tell you the exact minute and second mark that every new riff I am teaching appears at on the original recording.
Hopefully this level of detail will help unveil the mysteries of Adam Jones' killer guitar riffs found throughout "Forty-Six & 2". And the hardest thing about learning tool songs is remembering all of the different variations and little Fills and shit he does. Not one thing he plays is hard to play but in the context of their music it’s very difficult to remember at all… and their drummer Danny, fuck that’s mind boggling.
You don't "need" to know the marks, you just gotta FEEL this one.
What I wanna know is, how you produce the tone?
Volume at max, gain 3 o clock, bass 11 o clock, mids maxed out, treble 2 o clock. Add built in distortion or throw a distortion pedal in there. Little bit of reverb.
That riff..lord so heavy and beautifully menacing.

Lord help me!😂 I'm a 45yr old lefty and after going to my first rock concert (Primus, perfect circle and Puscifer) I'm going to buy my first guitar and try to Learn this song and prince's solo from my guitar gently weeps. Watching those performances inspired me to try to learn how to play.

Something is off with that bridge before the tremolo guitar solo, but I cant figure out what it is. I slowed down the song and it sounds like theres an extra open string somewhere in there but I cant find It. Anyone else have this problem? Other than that, great lesson!
