These watches are probably in the Daniel Wellington, MVMT category, but aimed at an older generation, those still reading magazines and collecting collectable Duesenberg Models for the mantle. A department store watch, not horrible, but certainly not top or even mid tier. A nice gift watch for uncle Bob, Who doesn't know much about watches, and its a decent beater if you dont want to beat up your nicer watches.
I came across this in a 2023 March snow storm. I inherited my fathers Magnificent watch as well as one geared to Golfers t(o which he loved to play). The Mag. was my INTRODUCTION TO AUTOMATICS . I had never seen one prior. I don't know how long he had it, but I've had it for SIX years-it's a BEAUTY. I'm waiting for the Four sub dialed Graves '33. . It's taken me Six years to get it. I also own two other autos-The X-ray open display case back Decent LUME ( unless your into that radioactive stuff) & it has 5ATM's! The power reserve ive not measured but when I return to its box two days later it's STILL going! The Versailles does not last as long but it still a beauty. The X-ray is a little less smooth to the touch but only on the back screw downs-otherwise it feels great. If you are the guy who would NEVER TOUCH A WATCH UNDER 2000 dollars-you can Ignore their specials and pay more and they now sell SWISS! And they Also have a new model in four different versions that have-six different SUB dials plus the main one that cost 4500$. I've always liked calendar watches, and Interesting shapes-who out there sells a watch in a guitar shape. (That one is out of my range.) (if an open display case back is not for you-save for what you want. I've seen Seiko, WAY OUT OF MY PRICE RANGE (and I can't buy on line) -their open display is my opinion -boring. The Grail watch TEIR that people speak of-I would never be able to obtain & if one dropped out of the sky-I'd be to afraid to wear such a costly watch! Staurers have some interesting complications unattainable anywhere else. As far as the movement not being Japanese or Swiss, have you seen where some of Casios QUALITY watches are now made in? Beyond just cased. I'm not sure but the Chinese company name sounds familiar as a watch spoken about on line about two years ago made an impressive design. I'm not saying all are quality, but hay I've a China made watch with a Swatch take off name & it STILL WORKS 23 years LATER! So we do our research best we can-thank you for this video-agree a tripod be a lot easier to watch the watch video and I've not seen that 1777 before. I admit that some of the stories work or not -they're probably trying to get you to imagine yourself there sortof speak-as long as the story is valid-Watches we buy we want Not scratched when new-but used-oh I bet that scratch had a -story .
I've had a Midnight Flyboy and Magnificat II for about six or seven years now and they've both held up very well. I was sent a chronograph (that Titanium one they blew out) and it speaks to an inconsistency in QC that I have NOT seen in the two aforementioned watches. The rest of their catalog does not have very much aesthetic appeal to me, so that's where my personal experiences with Stauer stopped. But dismissing them out of hand isn't any more advisable than raising them to the level of Haute Horology.
@@watchyouknowYes, for almost forty years, but my health made it impossible to be consistent and I decided to stop before I embarrassed myself. I used to respect and actually a Stauer watch. They advertise themselves as the watch manufacturer who purchased the actual equipment used in Switzerland. They do not manufacture their movements nor did they buy any Swiss equipment. That being said, I throw them under the proverbial bus. My Stauer had it second hand fall off within six months. I continued to wear it with the knowledge it would eventually give out, which it has.
Those photos of the factory explained the copious amounts of fingerprints oil and debris I found on the movement of a 1930 Dashtronic when I opened it. It runs a lot better now, since cleaned and oiled it.
I have a Guanqin watch with this same movement and it has kept great time the 4+ years I’ve been wearing the watch. Great video and thanks for sharing.
Yes, this watch is that bad. I got to handle and open a few of them. It is not because they are Chinese. It’s just that Stauer in particular has very strange poor quality signs. One of the watches had the numbers on the dial fall off and then fly around the interior of the watch. I didn’t notice anything particularly about about the movement itself. But overall design of the watch and quality control are just horrible
I just purchased a Stauer JetSetter for under $50.00 with shipping, "handling" and tax. My only complaints are the sloppy way it fits my wrist, even with the pins set the smallest. I may put on an expansion band, and the warranty. To access the warranty costs as much as the watch, minus s&h. If it quits and a new battery doesn't fix it I'll toss everything but the band. Looking at watches on Amazon, there were big name watches costing as much as a really good used car, never-heard-of-them brands, and Stauers. A lot of the big brands were likely counterfeits. No one is going to take the time to counterfeit a Stauer. They are essentially counterfeits wearing the Stauer label ! !
I think you made a mistake buying this watch. If you bought it as a novelty out of curiosity, then no problem. If you bought it as a serious watch purchase then their watches are just incredibly ugly. A lot of their small design features seem to imitate Invicta. Invicta has a reputation for making some of the ugliest oversized watches, but they aren’t criticized for their movement and overall quality control.
Yes. That was a weird conversation. I think that rep could have been better informed. He did give me the heads up that the watch was going out of production soon.
@@watchyouknow found it. You have to take off the digital watch board and under that is the small batter for the analog watch. It is 2 watches in one. I have one that was given to me. I liked it at first but one of the dial hands fell off, haven't worn it since. It's been well over 10 years since I worn it. It still works, winds and what not, I'm just terrible with jewelry in general. I'm not sure if thats supposed to be a common problem with smaller dials, but it was rather disappointing. I don't know the model, it has a stainless casing, and moon phase dial with a tan face, and a brown leather strap.
It sounds like a different model. Stauer has some issues with QC especially with their lower end models. The one in this review may be their best creation. I have had it for many years and had no problems whatsoever.
My grandfather got me the moon phase watch from stauer Although I was able to find two moon phase watches from them one has a proper moon phase and the other has one that doesn’t properly show the age of the moon or it’s phase and I have the one that does not properly show me the age of the moon also it’s a day date I have no idea if the complication has a specific name I just only know of the Rolex day date which has the day and date displayed and so does this watch
