Jody thank you for this! I’ve wondered what spatula it wasn’t for all the years I’ve been watching her channel & never could find it anywhere. Mystery solved!😅🙏🏻💞😇❤️
Lisa ! Your channel has awoken something in me. You have made me so excited to get into the kitchen and learn new things . Now I have multiple sourdough starters , cook only on cast iron , make my own cleaner . You’ve made me such a better wife . Also exited to have future children to cloth diaper them ❤️❤️
The first video I watched of hers was on cloth diapering and now 2 years later I recalled her whole vibe and started watching all of her videos and feel the same way 😍
Ms. Lisa The stainless steal spatula is a RADA brand I have one just like it, you so correct in it is a handy easy tool to have!! You are SO GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO! SO GLAD I FOUND YOUR SHOW ALSO!

Yes! In Denmark, everyone has an electric kettle. Its literally a top5 need2have for any kitchen and you buy for your teenagers who is moving out. We don’t even drink that much tea compared with you guys but we use it for everything. Filter coffee, pasta, steralization, whatever!
Totally agree. I save gobs buying whole spices (organic Frontier via Vitacost). They store beautifully. And the house smells fantastic after a grinding session not to mention the better cooking results.
I think that's a really good list; I have most of those items in my kitchen as well. Two of my absolute must-haves are my kitchen scale and instant read thermometer.
I make lots of soup so a ladle is essential! I think an enameled cast iron pot is necessary for ‘reactive’ or acidic soups or sauces like my tomato basil or any tomato sauces. I was thinking of getting rid of my cusinart ice cream maker but just can’t. I still think you need a large cutting board that would just sit out on the counter that is stable! Please Lisa, put a damp towel under your little board so it won’t move so much!

Along with really good knives in general, I have found that a really good, long bread knife is essential for sourdough bread. When I made my first loaf, I actually broke a cheap plastic bread knife when I was cutting it. Now I have a nice, sharp, well-serrated knife that’s about 8 inches long, perfect for those artisan-style loaves.
Yes! THE popcorn pan! I have the popcorn pan that my Mom made popcorn in 4 nights a week . She got it in 1950 and still in use today. A lil oil popcorn seeds and shake shake...
A pastry blender/cutter has made a huge difference for me! In making biscuits, pie crust and dumplings. Gets the job done so much faster. Got mine at a thrift store
After YEARS of hearing about the Berkey I finally bought one a few months ago and WOW! I didn't know water could taste this good. We did a family water taste test and we all could tell which was our city water. Bleh. After I received the box I re-watched all of your videos to set up and learn how to maintain it. Thank you!!
@@gunnikr yes that seems to have come up.... the water from the Berkey is just room temperature. You could fill ice trays but we just have kinda learned to live with non-cold water.
I found a very long stainless steel "tweezers" is so helpful. It measures almost 10" or more long, I think. It's so much handier than tongs for flipping bacon, chicken tenders, or any small items you may need to pick up. Does extremely well in cast iron which is what I use more than 50% of time. I gifted one to my adult son who loves it too. Give it a try. 👍🇺🇲
I literally have all of this 😂 but I bought the pioneer woman’s knife set and I absolutely love it. They are so sharp and they have a nice weight to them. They also come with a sharpener. Definitely recommend. I think the only difference is I need a large wooden cutting board. It’s also dangerous for your board to move while you’re cutting. You could easily slice your finger. I would either put it on a rubber mat or maybe try to find the rubber corner covers to put on them to secure it more.
Oh my goodness! you are an amazing woman! All those children, cooking and keeping a beautiful home. I just found your channel and I am absolutely loving it! I have been binge watching it and you are such a wealth of knowledge! Thank you!💕
LOVE your list. I have 3 items that I would consider.... I use a rotary drum grater for my cheese. The crank handle makes it easier for me to make quick work of block cheese and cleanup is VERY simple. I did learn my lesson to watch the reviews on this one. Look for one that is proven. Another item is a swingline, wall-mounted can opener (Lehman's). It makes SURE that the tool never walks away and it's a lot easier for me to turn the crank than to work with the hand-held twist handle types. The other item that I use a LOT for chopping veggies is a cast iron and stainless steel commercial grade fry cutter. It makes quick work of raw root vegetables, apples, onions and much more. I got this last one after seeing two plastic choppers fail (the ones that the lid pushes down on the food). I use it enough to justify the cost and can't imagine it ever breaking with normal kitchen use.
I've bought two different garlic presses and never seem to get them to work right-----the garlic always squashed and collects in the sides of the cup, not coming out all the way. I wind up a couple of drops into the bowl and squashed garlic in the press that still needs to be minced. What am I doing wrong or do I just need a GOOD press? I use garlic in just about EVERYTHING. What do you use?
It cracked me up when you were talking about the saucepan not being big enough for your large family so you make popcorn in it...lol. For my family of 5, I use my 12 qt (?) stainless steel stockpot to make about a gallon or more of popcorn at a time. I don't make it all the time, but when I do, everyone loves it! Plus the leftovers make a great snack.
OMG this is so accurate and so perfect. As a full time working mom with a large-ish garden who cooks everything from scratch as much as possible, these tools are exactly what is needed I feel. I did want to say that the kitchen aid is also great for the grinder attachment. On it's own it helps me a lot because I can buy a larger primal of meat, break it down, and any cuttings that I have become ground meat. Also, if I have a roast, but turns out we wanna make meatballs instead, easy. You can also put the sausage stuffer attachment on the grinder and make your own sausages. The paddle attachment is one of the best ways I've found of mixing sausages that develops the myacin beautifully and evenly distributes the spices. I could do that by hand, but not gonna lie, it doesn't come out as good. Finally, you can get a food and vegetable strainer that also goes on the end of the grinder and it makes quick work of seeding and skinning tomatoes for canning, making a task that takes an hour, take 10 minutes. I think a lot of people view the kitchen aid as a bread or baking machine, but it really is so much more. If I count up all the money I saved by making my own sausages and ground meats and the likes, that whole mixer and it's attachments paid for itself. It is truly the centerpiece of my kitchen.
Thanks for the video! I just got started on my sourdough journey and my younger sister told me about your channel! I have really been enjoying your videos. So far, you have taught me how to make sauerkraut, sourdough bread, sourdough pizza crust, and sourdough pancakes. I am really excited to give your water kefir a try! You make it look so fun! Thanks for your channel!
I put off getting an Instant Pot for a long time, now I use it several times a week. Yogurt, Bone Broth, Dried beans (I make large batches and freeze in meal-sized portions), perfect brown rice (same as the beans -- big batch and freeze), boiled eggs. I use it for recipes too, but it's so useful for meal prep.
I would add Air fryer to the “ nice to have” for me. I use mine almost every day! And a big glass drink dispenser for my homemade kombucha. 👍🏼 I love those danish whisks too. They are perfect for sourdough batters.
Super informational! I too have a lot of the stuff you have! - but I still feel like I'm learning so much from you. Thank you for sharing all these tips. Your videos have inspired me so much as a mother and a wife, to go the extra mile and ensure my family's health in the things I serve them. I am truly grateful for all that you share. God bless you.
This video was very informative! So much I learned! I love old bowls that I was fortunate to get from my mother-in-law and my mother when they passed, anything old means so much, because of the hands that used it before me! Thank you so much Lisa for sharing this with us! See you next time!
As time has gone by I moved from plastic to glass to stainless steel (or ceramic) wherever possible. Still haven't retired the thriftstore plastic salad spinner but the blender moved from plastic to glass, storage containers definitely have switched up, and of course utensils. So younger me: just think it through and get the most durable version available. Definitely reduce the amount of plastic (looking at you measuring cups and spoons). Thanks for making this video, it was interesting to hear your thoughts. PS my instantpot means I cook beans. Otherwise it would be storebought at store prices with varying options. Also the ip saved me from buying an electric skillet which I sometimes thought I wanted.
I just bought the whisks to mix my bread!! Love those and you are right they are so pretty! I also got a cast iron dutch oven and it does make the best bread!! My neighbors are loving you because I share all my bread and things I cook!! I want to get the blades next to make pretty bread!!
I would definitely recommend upgrading to the mockmill. I had a nutrimill and upgraded to the mockmill, it is so much easier to use, it makes almost no mess where my nutrimill covered my kitchen in flour. It’s also great that you can mill directly into the bowl.
I used to have a bunch of kitchen tools that only had one purpose - like apple corer, apple slicer, a tool to help peel citrus, a little grabber to take the tops off strawberries! I finally found out these tools never got used, now if it can’t be used for multiple reasons it’s out 😀.
Lisa, I love the way u clean the fridge, using up things, combining mustard to 1 container etc, clean the poantries, using your cast iron, candles, honey, dutch oven. Rhoda Bowen
Hi Lisa i agree you’re baskets are pretty- Just like you!!!!😊!!! This wasn’t a video for me but i like to support your channel cause you’re such a good person and Mother!!!! Thanks
Awesome video. Yup i think you nailed pretty well everything that i use. (except i still dont have a grain mill) I also use small canning jars with those storage lids for all my leftovers. I find them so handy and i dont have to use the plastic containers anymore. Love your channel Lisa.
I have a rubber scrapper with a tiny head. I got it from the baking section of a craft store. It's useful for get those last bits of something from a jar.
Kitchen Aid makes a ice scream maker attachment , it works good too! and I would use the dishwasher, using it lately has helped me so much!! I turn it on every night before we go to bed and in the morning there's clean dishes! Amazing , love your videos!!
My mother taught me first, then years of Home Ec. classes and working in restaurants also taught the difference between these three common kitchen items: Turner - for turning foods as they are cooked; "Rubber" Scraper - for scraping, such as batter from a bowl; Spatula - some for lifting, such as brownies from a pan; and some for frosting cakes. This item has a long, slender "blade", which is spatulate. I hope this helps. I have enjoyed your channel for years. Thank you for everything you share. God bless you and yours.
I love using 9 X 13 glass baking dishes, glass pie plates, pampered chef silicone scrapers in the small and medium sizes, pampered chef meat chopper, and parchment paper.
Lisa, my mother had scratch bakery. She would use a rubber scrapper that you use by grabbing the side as it had no handle. She could scrape a bowl so completely clean with one I had to have one too. Also I found a grater at target that grates not only on the down but also on the up stroke. Thanks for all the sharing. It's really encouraging!
Your favorite Turner/spatula is Rada which is my favorite brand of kitchen knives and cooking utensils! They are very durable and just amazing! My nana and mom have had the same ones since way before I was born and I’ll be 30 this year. And I just recently bought all of mine off of Amazon and highly recommend them! We have a few knives from Cut Co which we love but we reach for our Rada every time! 🙌🏻
Really liked this video and I’m happy to report that I have it all just about covered. I would like to switch to a durable glass for leftovers and the silicone tops. I would suggest a few things which I really count on in the kitchen such as long Oxo Tongs which give me an extra hand when I need to place chicken in a baking dish or reach into something hot. Also, since I like to freeze a lot of fruit for smoothies and make lots of salads I really appreciate my Oxo Salad Spinner. I have both a large and small one but rarely use the large. It’s just so handy to wash and dry berries and vegetables in smaller quantities in the small spinner. The one other thing I find really handy is a baking tray or large cookie sheet. They are great for spreading peaches and what not out so they can freeze in pieces before bagging then up. They also save my oven from spills and my counter top from messes. I’ll use one to hold needed ingredients for a recipe and make one trip with it to my work space. Of course, a good Oxo veggie peeler for carrots and potatoes is a must have along with an inexpensive, small, easy to use knife sharpener from a hardware store. I ‘nice to have goodie’ is a trustworthy, insta-read thermometer for meat, chicken, turkey, roasts, frying foods and making candy is fun to have. Sorry, so long but it’s so hard to narrow it all down!
You're right....several bowls! I also like to have multiple strainers because you never know what you need. And, Amazon sells that cool stainless set of 4 to get started really inexpensively. And, then colanders. I'm always washing veggies and fruit, harvesting seeds and washing them. So, multi function. Love your channel....I'm a newbie....
Cast iron is life! I have many. I also can’t live without my immersion blender, and my kitchen scale. That thing is a game changer. I also have quite a few strainers. I have a really big one for washing fruits and veggies for when I am canning. I use the smaller ones for everyday use, and I even have a medium sized one with a handle for going out the back and picking blackberries. I really love your channel.☮️💕
We have had our Berkey for over a year and we love it the kids even taste and can tell the difference from our city water they will wait to drink from the berkey than the faucet
I love my Vidalia onion chopper. It makes chopping a ton of veggies for soup so fast - and contains and measures for me. It’s really handy for canning salsa. I could pulse everything in my blender or food processor, but I find it makes veggies unevenly chopped and watery. It’s a Nice to Have item. 😊 I also agree about the small metal spatula- makes flipping those English muffins much easier! 😉
Somehow I never ended up watching this when you first posted it. But what a great list! I just got a food processor after wanting/seeing the need for one over the past couple years I’ve been married. So glad I waited though because the one I got I found for $4 at Goodwill! It’s the upgraded Cuisinart one and looks new! 👏🏻
Oh my goodness Lisa, I agree with your choices on so many levels, this is a great video and I have saved it to my favorites so I can purchase some of the things I used to have but accidentally gave to my daughter and have missed so badly and I’ve not re-bought for myself.. lol Have a good week, ❤️ Chris-Raleigh NC
I love your list and that the first on the list is cast-iron but I would like to add one thing. I just recently bought an old stove that has a cast iron grill in the middle and if I want to I can take the grill off and add the great for an another burner. But I have a feeling the griddle is there to stay I use that more than anything.
Pampered chef sells small stainless steel spatulas or turners (lol) that are really sturdy. Since there small they’re pretty cheap. The handle is black plastic but they hold up really well!
I agree with your list. For myself I would add garlic press, 2 cup flour sifter, and mortar and pestle. I also have a small pressure canner that I use to put frozen meat in, instead of an Instapot.
Hey Lisa!! I am a new follower and I'm so glad I found your channel! I have a tip to share in case you didn't know. You can shred cheese in just a few seconds using your food processor with a cheese grating blade. Once I realized that, I hardly ever use my grater. It saves my arm strength (grating cheese is hard 😊), and saves time!
They are all spatulas...the metal ones are just spatulas and the rubber one is a Rubber Spatula. Pampered Chef Rubber Spatulas are by the best ever. They are heat resistant up to 450 degrees, sturdy and scrape so well. There are 3 different sizes. I also love the pampered Chef knifes...they will last a lifetime. Pampered chef also has a small metal spatula like the one that is your fav...it is great! No I'm not a PC consultant, just love good products that work well, last long and don't cost a fortune. Great video. I'd love to see what the inside of your fridge looks like.
Rada is made in USA. I looked on Pampered Chef site and could not find where their products are made so probably China as most things are these days. I refuse to support a communist regime. I feel I should support my country's workers/economy. If I cannot find American made, which is very hard to do now, I will look for it second hand or do without. If I cannot do without then I will buy from any other country other than a communist country or one with poor human rights. It is not worth saving a couple of bucks to sell out my fellow Americans and fellow human beings. Please, everyone, please pay attention to what you are buying and who you are buying if from. Sometimes the cheapest prices come at highest cost.
I like having a really good peeler for peeling apples or potatoes etc. Measuring spoons, cups and jugs are very helpful and a scale. My electric kettle is a huge help. We use our potato masher a lot. I love having a small glass juicer for squeezing oranges or lemons for home made orange juice or lemon butter. We use a few IKEA stainless steel roasting pans a lot of a lot of our cooking (roasting veggies) but also I use it for baking treats. We have a gas stove that doesn't have automatic lighters so a handheld lighter is very helpful in my kitchen. My husband discovered the Aus ion /USA ion frypans by solidteknic that are lighter than cast iron but work like cast iron once they are seasoned. We love ours. We use it all the time. I also use several stoneware baking pans for casseroles and meatloaf etc. Thanks for sharing your list!
The little spatula/Turner looks like rada. They make knives, they are like a direct market company but their products are amazing I have a lot of their stuff.
A bread knife, or serrated knife. It's the best for slicing bread and tomatoes. I use a lot of the same things you use, and I too, love my Danish whisk. I've switched back to cast iron, but can only handle the little 8" skillet. The big skillet is just too heavy for arthritic hands. Oh, another thing I love is silicone mitts instead of pot holders, and a leather sleeve to slip over the the skillet handle. Highly recommend. Thanks, Lisa!
Your list is pretty much the complete deal. I would add a kitchen scale for baking certain breads and having consistent sizing for things like pita and chapati that I don’t make often so I don’t have a sixth sense to make them all the same size , there are some recipes that can be forgiving, not all, by using using the Internet to figure out the conversion, but it was a pain if I was short on time.
Thanks for your ideas. I love my Magimix food processor, it’s constantly used for grinding nuts, making pie crust, Mayo, making cakes, tray bakes, smoothies, instant berry ice cream, recently tried it for pasta dough with the blade attachment. Couldn’t live without it now.
I favor the flat whisks which I often use instead of the Danish whisk. I am a big fan of the Le Creuset dutch ovens but use a much less expensive 3 quart for my no knead bread baking. A hand held mandolin is also one of my favorites, especially in the summer with the garden bounty of cucumbers. Love my glass pyrex bowls and measuring cups. A special set of dry measuring cups from Sur LaTable has a 2 cup measure as well as 2/3 and 1 1/2 cups and I treasure that set. Surely enjoyed your discussion of must have and nice to have kitchen tools. Thank you.
I would add a very skinny spatula. (Spatula like the white one not the metal one) I found it in the canning section at Walmart. It literally fits inside bottles like a ketchup bottle or any narrow opening so you can get the very last of something out. I literally have all of those things, down to the Cusinart ice cream maker. We don't have the one with the container that you freeze though, we have the kind that has a little compressor in it and we love it. I love your channel so much.
Lisa great video. I have learned so much from you. Beginning with using Mason Jars !! No more tupperwear. I love my Mason Jars and plastic lids!! yes on funnel!! yes on cast iron. Its all good. Thank you so much. Sally

Sheet pans! I use them for so many things, not always even in the kitchen.

Measuring cups of all sizes are a must in my kitchen
Agreed - and measuring spoons. Also, make sure the labels are raised or embossed vs written on because the writing gets worn off quickly.

Agree, so glad I got an Instant Pot! Six Sisters Stuff has lots of great recipes for it!
Go to estate sales. Sometimes you can get most or everything you need. At a much lower price.
Totally agree!
May I ask which mockmill you have? I have the whispermill but have considered switching.
@@pamelabagwell4190 I have the mockmill 100.
I adore my Mockmill! Very well worth the investment.
This is the perfect video for me today.. I'm trying all the time to pare down to only the essentials. Thank you!
It’s so hard! I love kitchen items and am constantly getting more.
@@DearlyDeborah same! Trying for a 1 in 1 or more out rule.. sometimes it actually works 😂
I used to have a bunch of kitchen tools that only had one purpose - like apple corer, apple slicer, a tool to help peel citrus, a little grabber to take the tops off strawberries! I finally found out these tools never got used, now if it can’t be used for multiple reasons it’s out 😀.
Your smaller turner looks like it might come from Rada Cutlery. They are a US made brand. Really good
LOVE 'MUST HAVES' & Favorites videos! Please do more! Thank you!!
Microplane (for zests, ginger, and even garlic)! And everything you mentioned :)
Pastry brush to brush butter on my just baked bread is a must. I also use it at the BBQ. 💖🌞🌵😷
The little scraper looks like Rada... I really like their products (peeler, knives, etc.)
I have a rubber scrapper with a tiny head. I got it from the baking section of a craft store. It's useful for get those last bits of something from a jar.
Spatula!!😂😂 I've considered this at different stages of life and still don't know at 50, I love how she addressed this mystery 😅😉
Kitchen Aid makes a ice scream maker attachment , it works good too! and I would use the dishwasher, using it lately has helped me so much!! I turn it on every night before we go to bed and in the morning there's clean dishes! Amazing , love your videos!!
My mother taught me first, then years of Home Ec. classes and working in restaurants also taught the difference between these three common kitchen items:
Turner - for turning foods as they are cooked;
"Rubber" Scraper - for scraping, such as batter from a bowl;
Spatula - some for lifting, such as brownies from a pan; and some for frosting cakes. This item has a long, slender "blade", which is spatulate.
I hope this helps.
I have enjoyed your channel for years. Thank you for everything you share. God bless you and yours.
^^^This comment needs to get pinned to top of the heap here!
Inquiring Minds Need to Know!!
The Turner with the silver handle looks like a Rada brand. I love their knives and utensils. I highly recommend them!
good list! i would add a sheet pan, muffin pan, silpat liner, measuring spoon and cup.
Lisa, awesome video this morning. I so appreciate all your ideas and tips. Found out my kitchen is better equipped than I thought. Thanks. 👍♥️
Pampered chef has a nice stainless steel turner / spatula for around $12 - with a short handle like the one you have.
You didn't have on your list your colorful enameled cast iron Dutch oven that you use for so much. I have two and love them, and yours looks so handy.
That smaller spatula looks like Rada. We love our Rada products.
You can sharpen knives on the back of plates or a coffee cup that have the ruff ring around them if you don't have a sharpener
And never put knives in the dishwasher or cut on glass, ceramic or marble. That dulls the blade. A sharp knife is a safe knife!
I love that you also want things to look pretty. I loved this list!! Thank you for putting it together.
I call them both spatulas too!! Lol measuring spoons and cups! 😉 bread pans and parchment paper.
We are the same! I cook from scratch and basically have and use the same essentials!
The small metal spatula is a fish turner. I also go to that spatula. Though I admit I have a rubber spatula addiction...
I love using 9 X 13 glass baking dishes, glass pie plates, pampered chef silicone scrapers in the small and medium sizes, pampered chef meat chopper, and parchment paper.
The little flipper (spatula) looks like it’s from “Rada Knives”. Love your channel 💞
I like your list. I would add measuring spoons and cups and a scale.
The small turner looks like Rada...made in USA brand...love it!!
It's good to have the advice on what you find works for you and your family. Appreciate advise.
Great video! My must have is a "foley fork." I use it for mixing and as a whisk. Great for when making homemade muffins or cookies.
We have had our Berkey for over a year and we love it the kids even taste and can tell the difference from our city water they will wait to drink from the berkey than the faucet
measuring cups and spoons would go on my list as a start up. im saving up for cast iron
rolling pin, measuring cups and spoons ...parchment paper... baking sheets... cake pans and strainers
I also agree about the small metal spatula- makes flipping those English muffins much easier! 😉
Salad spinner to clean my leafy harvests.
Air fryer - where has it been all my life?! Lol!
Canning equipment
Yes to the salad spinner! We use ours all of the time-especially in the summer.
Yes! Salad spinner is a must for growing your own lettuce!! 👏
I couldn't be without a salad spinner AND I love my salad shooter, primary for carrot shredding because it makes the carrots perfect!!
I like how you are honest about how it looks on your countertop..and yet it’s functional..:)
The small spatula I think is Rada! I love Rada!
Great video, very thoughtfully filmed.
Thank you very much!
I love your kitchen. The stove, the sink, the large windows, white cupboards etc etc al.🙂
Rada could usually be purchased at our Senior Centers.
The spatula on your right looks like a Rada. They make everything from spatulas to knives to pizza cutters. I really love the brand.
Thank you.
You should make a cookbook! :)
Definitely!!!
She already published a cookbook a few years ago and did all of her own photography for it!
@@lauriewolhart5743 oh really.. I would luv to have it.🥰
@@lauriewolhart5743, where can we order the cookbook?
I would add a very skinny spatula. (Spatula like the white one not the metal one) I found it in the canning section at Walmart. It literally fits inside bottles like a ketchup bottle or any narrow opening so you can get the very last of something out. I literally have all of those things, down to the Cusinart ice cream maker. We don't have the one with the container that you freeze though, we have the kind that has a little compressor in it and we love it. I love your channel so much.
I save large glass "pickle"(1/2 gallon) jars. I remove the labels, and use silicone lids. I'll keep the original lids for jars to give away!
Lisa great video. I have learned so much from you. Beginning with using Mason Jars !! No more tupperwear. I love my Mason Jars and plastic lids!!
yes on funnel!! yes on cast iron. Its all good. Thank you so much. Sally
