That's what a lot of people misunderstood about Kalista in the past. Just because she has "infinite" dashes doesn't mean it's actual good mobility, when the dash range is small, can be slowed down and apart from using her Q, she needs an auto attack target to utilize it.
And the dash is so specific. She can almost never use it to escape. Because, as you said, she needs to be in attack range to utilize dash. So she really has no escape because her ability to escape relies on being close to a target, which is really counterintuitive. As for engaging, it's nowhere near as good as other adc dashes that can engage(e.g. kai'sa ult lucian e, trist jump, heck even twitch invis is better for engaging). So not only does she have no escape(which adcs NEED), but the one "perk" she has is outclassed by almost every other adc in most situations.
only way for kalista to be viable again is if they give her the old range, or remake her W to actually give her an ability because the W is literally nothing even if your support can utilize it properly, but then again we know riot will never do this cuz she would end up giga broken in competitive, the only place where she can truly be picked, as a kalista main i agree with everything DL said and the champ is garbo
I agree as an ad main. Champs like kalista, jinx, kogmaw is horribly bad. Jinx is better nowadays because of the buffs for midgame, but still is trash. If youre 11/0 on these champs you can still be fuvked by the enemy 0/11 support pantheon
