Oh man! Drum and Bass!! 🤩 This is quickly becoming one of my favorite genres in VGM remixes! You knocked it out of the park once again! It's incredible how much your production quality has increased in just the past year. Not that previous remixes weren't already good, but you just keep getting better! Lately every new remix that you make has me playing the video on loop cuz I can't just listen to a masterpiece just once! 😆
Immediately, right off the bat, we have an intense feel present with the lead melody, and then the acid synth and the rock guitars come in, a superb combination btw, this particular combo reminds me of F-Zero GX's electro rock/techno OST. And then the DnB drums come in too, and I'm immediately immersed in the song. I really love intense and epic final boss and battle themes, they make the gameplay experience reach an epic climax! All the instruments are equally pulling their weight, nothing feels out of place, everything blends seamlessly into a cohesive mix, which I know isn't easy to do with a busy track.
I must mention the video elements as well. I personally love cinematic videos that are perfectly synchronized to music, and you always go above and beyond in this regard. Kali's artwork is always a great sight to see, and how it complements the video so well. Wow, so much work into a single production, but I assure you, for fans of the song and game, it's so worth it when it creates a memorable and unique experience. ✨️
And man, thank you so much for mentioning me in the video!! 😄 It's not often that someone mentions me in a post or video, so when it does happen, I'm extremely grateful, it truly means a lot to me. 😊 I appreciate all the nice things you said about me, as well as including my channel in the end screen. It's true how I always try my best to be a kind and supportive person, and honestly, you are also a good example in this regard. Let's all keep trying our best! 👍

Oh man, this comment seriously has me feeling all kinds of warm fuzzies - thank you so much, Glitchman!! I was really hoping that you in particular would enjoy this remix, and I had you in mind before this project was started, even - your penchant for D&B definitely influenced the rhythmic style here, among other aspects.
It's incredibly motivating to hear that you feel the quality of the productions on this channel has increased considerably over the past year, and that it was good to begin with - thank you for those kind words of encouragement! I can definitely attribute any improvement to some key things that have happened: becoming more efficient with FL Studio has freed up more time per project to focus on adding details and fine-tuning the existing elements; gaining access to new instrument libraries and percussive samples has been a huge boon and has helped to diversify the sound; most of all, though, working with several of the talented and creative artists in the VGM remix community has helped me to learn from their processes and techniques, and it's also forced me to keep up (or at least try to) since I always want to make sure I'm pulling my weight in a collaboration. I'm also striving to be intentional about trying new sound styles and techniques, and I think that has helped me to learn new tools and areas of music production that I wouldn't have encountered otherwise. But personal musings aside, I am delighted to hear that you've felt the last several remixes have been replay-worthy - that means a lot! ^_^
I don't think I've heard any of F-Zero GX's OST prior to your mentioning it, but after listening to a few songs... wow, is it good! And I also see what you mean regarding the instrumentation - this definitely feels reminiscent of some of its tracks with that particular instrumentation. Honestly, that's one of the many sweet spots for me, when electric guitars are used alongside synths, and I think that was one of the aspects of the original that hooked me right away. This track in Sword and Shield is just too good! And man, you said it, regarding the difficulty of balancing a busy track. I think this was the second most difficult song I've worked with yet, next to Miracle Matter, because there's so much going on, and there's not really a strong, tuneful melody to carry the theme. I shamelessly went for a "more is more" approach here, and I really just wanted to max out the instrumentation and percussive elements and let the limiter and compressor work their magic to rein in all the chaos. 😅 It really makes me both relieved and happy, though, to hear that it didn't feel too messy or disorganized - thank you!
Kali and I are delighted, as ever, to read such glowing remarks regarding the visual elements. I know that the interactive visualizers have been paramount to this channel's identity and growth, and I take a great deal of pride in each video. It's always genuinely exciting when I watch other people's remix videos that have the music and visuals interact in some way, and I want other people to experience those same moments of excitement, even if few and far between. Kali and I both put close to 20 hours into the artwork and visualizer, respectively, and it makes our efforts feel so realized to see you speak to that specifically. Thank you!
For a long time now, I've wanted to feature you in a remix video, and while these shout-outs may not have much of an impact on the growth of someone's channel, they're important to me, because it gives me the opportunity to share with the community just how exceptional these individuals are. I want people to _care_ about others and what they create, so if I can help to facilitate even just one authentic connection each month, that means much more to me than an influx of users who engage minimally, or not at all. I picked this video in particular because both the D&B style and the more robust visuals felt like an homage to your musical specialty and the sheer amount of effort you put into your remix videos!
Thank you again for your incredible support and encouragement over the years, my friend. And well said - let's keep giving it our all and working to help make this community the best it can be! 💛

FlameCheese, thanks so much, man! I always really look forward to reading your feedback, and your continued encouragement towards this channel means the world to me. ^_^
This one was probably the second-hardest remix I've done, next to Miracle Matter. I definitely struggle with pieces that aren't really tuneful, as I think most people would. This song definitely is all about the percussive elements and peripheral sounds, and I think that's what I really like about it, compared to the regular gym leader battle theme (which, don't get me wrong, is fantastic). This one just feels so intense, and it's one of my top 3 favorite battle themes in all of Pokemon.
Thank you for your remarks regarding the presentation, as well! I wanted the ferocity of the music to be matched by equally fierce visuals, and Kali really pulled through to make that happen. I think we've set a precedent for ourselves with these remix videos, and even though the video editing is tedious at times, it's still something I truly enjoy, and I want to keep using what I've learned to make visualizers that I hope will be engaging!
Thanks again, as always, for stopping by! 💛

Yoo, Avo! Thanks so much for making my day with this uplifting and enthusiastic comment! It means a lot, especially coming from you, to hear that both the visuals and music have continued to improve, and that my videos warrant multiple watches - that's the ultimate compliment!
It's seriously so heartening to hear that the efforts Kali and I put into the visualizers are really paying off - thank you for that! With so many talented remixers out there, I really want to add a dynamic to each video that helps them to stand out and make the videos more engaging than they would have been with just music and a static background. I say this often, but back before I started making remixes, I remember seeing a few videos where people had the visuals interact with the music in some way, and I was just so impressed and awe-stricken that I knew it was something I eventually wanted to do, too. And, well, I also really just like working on the visualizers! It gives me the opportunity to plan and design alongside Kali, and it's a nice break from the audio production end of it. 😅
Likewise, your videos have come a long way, in terms of both music and visuals, and your latest collaboration with SaraSandwich really sets the bar high! I'm hoping to have some time to comment on it real soon, but in the meantime, it's been a lot of fun to watch and listen to! Thanks again for always taking the time to comment, my friend, and I'll see you soon! 🌟

Steel, thank you so much, man!! It always brings me such joy to read and respond to your comments, and your feedback on this remix has me feeling so proud and heartwarmed. 😄
Ah man, what a compliment, to hear that this one has brought some summer heat of its own! I really wanted the music to be both intense and dynamic, and seeing you remark on those aspects specifically makes those goals feel realized. I know the Galar Gym Leader battle theme is more widely known and preferred, but the Champion Cup battle theme is my favorite in the game (by a considerable margin) and the way it takes the aforementioned Gym Leader melody and gets _serious_ with it is just too good.
And wow, I'm taken aback by your mention of ear candy - thank you for that! Since the melody is a bit more subdued and less tuneful here, I really wanted to try and maximize the potential of the percussive elements and supporting parts, so seeing you remark on that specifically means a ton! It's very encouraging to hear that you felt the overall production was clean, as well. I used more layers than usual this time, and I felt like I was at risk of overdoing it and cluttering the mix. I definitely went with a "more is more" approach here, and the extracted Galar cheers (taken from the original track by running it through Ultimate Vocal Remover) had some unwanted artifacts, but I hoped that they would be concealed by the other elements, in truth. 😅 Again, it's heartening to hear that the mix sounded powerful, yet clean!
Kali and I really appreciate that you always take the time to comment on the visuals, and your mention of her artwork means a lot! This visualizer definitely took a lot out of both of us, but Pokemon characters are among her favorite to draw, and the video was fun to work on, for the most part. We really wanted to go all-out here, and we're both proud of the result!
Also, I want to thank you for your kind and enthusiastic comments when this remix was played on Theølogy's #InVGMWeTrust stream last month. That seriously meant so much to me, seeing you and the others write such positive and encouraging remarks - you guys are the best, really! A return to form, the sword and shield soundtrack while never being my favourite really had a few banger tracks. I love how you emulated the hypertension energy from the original and added guitars to your remixes now? I’ve missed a few uploads but this is insane your precussion work has improved immensely (it was great in the first place) but wow just wow stunned for words so epic. The visuals as per usual is awesome. Sounds like you was delving into a new genre with this one the precussion reminds me of breakbeat breaks (form of DNB) which I know you wanted to have a go at. Really love this perfect length and has a statement of intent and really goes for that can’t wait for next months upload got to catch up on the other ones for sure 🙂

Poke&Remix! :D Man, thank you so much for the detailed and thoughtful comment - this really made my day, and I am super psyched to know that you enjoyed this one so much!
I agree with your remarks regarding the Pokemon Sword & Shield OST - it wasn't my favorite overall, but there are some exceptional tracks, and this one in particular is one of the best battle themes in the entire franchise, I feel. I know a lot of people prefer the gym leader theme, but the way they revamped it with this hard D&B style really just does it for me... and the drums in the original are _so_ good! If a song has standout percussive elements, that's already a huge win in my book. And speaking of that, it means a lot to hear that you feel my percussive work has improved significantly - that's very high praise, coming from you! Something that I think has helped a lot in that regard is using higher-quality samples, which I've been sourcing from Splice - it's been a lifeline now for the past couple of years! I appreciate your mention of the percussive break, as well - that's actually my favorite part of the remix, and I figured it would be a fun way to change up the pace and build excitement during the Gigantimax sequence! 😁
Thanks for mentioning the guitar parts, as well! Here I've used two layers of guitars: the "Darkstar Feedback" preset from FLEX, with the "Hardcore" plugin applied to really ramp up the distortion, and a cleaner-sounding one from a the free Shreddage pack in Kontakt. I finally added the Kontakt player to my set of VSTs, and I'm hoping to progressively add more libraries to that, because the guitar one alone has been a big help already! I really want to one day add a realistic-sounding lead electric guitar (like Hydra) because there are so many VGM songs that shred, and I want to be able to replicate that a bit better.
Kali and I are grateful for your feedback on the visuals, as well - thank you for that! This one definitely took the most time for both of us, in terms of illustrating and video editing, and it's heartening to hear that you liked them. Thanks again for taking the time to listen and comment at length, my friend! 🌟

You always end up making your remixes better than the last and this is no exception! The mix is so full and chaotic like a Pokémon battle should be but it's all so clear and distinct in places as well, it never detracts at all!
The fast-paced percussion and the rhythm synths give this such a fun and intense feeling and I love how you guys implemented a story with Nessa vs. Raihan in the way you did. It's such a fun watch and the dialogue works so well and matches the characters to a tee! And of course, Kali knocked it out of the park as well with all the art in this with how detailed everything is and especially the character portraits during dialogue is a highlight for me!
You two really delivered on making this video super special and awesome!

Thank you, Danny!! Man, your comments are always such a treat to read and respond to, and this one has me all smiles - I'm really happy that you enjoyed it so much! 😁
It's incredibly heartening to hear that you feel each remix continues to improve on previous ones, and it makes me feel like my goal of continual improvement is continually being met! I always want to improve, or at least learn and apply new things with each remix, and even though the improvements will level out over time, I still plan to strive towards that.
I'm thrilled to hear that you felt the mix sounded full and dense - that's something I really love about the original, that it really feels maxed-out a lot of the time, and I wanted to have that same feeling of controlled chaos here. And I can't even tell you how glad I am to hear that the mix still had aspects of clarity in certain places. I know this is definitely a lot less clean than other remixes I've done, but I didn't want it to sound like a complete mess - just a bit chaotic and raw, to reflect the intensity of the battle!
Faster remixes are definitely trickier for me, since I really like to embellish both the rhythmic instruments and percussive elements, but it's encouraging to hear that those weren't lost on this one, despite the driving tempo. The guitars were hard to get to sound snappy and articulate, and thankfully they don't really take on that role in the original, so I could afford to be a bit looser with the guitar rhythms. I wanted the rhythmic drive to really be carried by the drums and percussion, as well as those acid-sounding synths and electric organ sounds, and it's awesome to hear that they did just that!
Thanks also for your detailed feedback on the visuals! Originally, I had the idea of having the viewer "battle" against Raihan and Nesa, but then Kali suggested having the two battle each other, which I think made way more sense for this approach. I'm delighted to hear that the dialogue came across as authentic and compelling, and thanks for saying so! When scripting it, I tried to utilize as much of their official in-game dialogue as possible, while supplementing with original or adapted lines that I hoped would be in-character for them. And Kali and I really appreciate your mention of the artwork, as well! She spent upwards of 20 hours in total on all the art assets - about the same as it took to create the visualizer - and it means a great deal to know that you enjoyed the end result! I'm fond of the character portraits, as well, and I think we'll likely utilize that concept for future remix videos where it feels fitting. :D
Again, I really can't thank you enough for your detailed and thoughtful comments. They really make my day! 💛

And I will eternally be in love with the chanting during the Dynamaxing/Gigantamaxing; it was such a wonderful addition, and even in this hyper-energetic remix, it fits right in to elevate the climax to a whole new dimension.
As someone still truly inexperienced with percussion and the art of writing basslines... I can only express awe towards the force and energy pushing me forward through this remix! Thank you for creating and sharing such an amazing and motivating remix ^w^

Hey, Turt! It is really good to see you, and what a delightful comment you've taken the time to write - thank you so much for that! It means a great deal to know that you enjoyed this remix, and I couldn't help but smile widely while reading your feedback on it. 😊
I'm thrilled to hear that you liked the crowd chanting in particular, and thanks for saying so! Although there were some aspects of Sword and Shield that I wasn't fond of, I think those games really set the best atmosphere for battles. I mean, with those giant stadium arenas alone, who wouldn't get hyped for them? But the addition of crowd singing and chanting really just did it for me, and I remember getting chills the first time I heard it. Of all the things the music and sound team could have done to ramp up the excitement for Dynamaxing, I think having the spectators show their enthusiasm vocally was the best and most impactful choice. It seems a lot of the fanbase shares this sentiment, as well, because I always see people remarking specifically on this aspect when commenting on the Sw/Sh soundtrack. But musings aside, it's encouraging to hear that the addition of those sounds helped to elevate the energy in this remix, just as I had hoped!
Thank you also for your feedback on the bass and percussive elements in particular! For most of my remixes, I usually use sheet music as the basis for arrangement, since I'm not great with transcription, especially for dense and/or fast-moving parts. However, I couldn't find any sheet music for this particular song, so it was a lot of guess-and-check, as well as referencing the Gym Leader battle theme, which has a similar melody and chord structure. Thankfully, this bassline was fairly tame, since the chords don't change too frequently. 😅
The drums and percussion made up the bulk of the work, though, and I'm ultimately quite happy and proud with how they came out, so hearing you say that you enjoyed them really makes my day! I think one thing that can really provide an instant and significant boost to a track is using top loops to supplement the basic beat. I do this much more often with remixes now, and although I was insistent on writing every drum part at first, I found that the ones people have made available (I source them from Splice, primarily) are meant to be used, and that there's no virtue in the approach I was using. I say "top loops" specifically because it's always nice to have the control of using your own kick rhythms and samples, and kicks are hard to remove from full drum loops cleanly. And my apologies if you already knew all this, but my hope is always that someone out there who reads my comment replies could potentially benefit from them.
Again, thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and enthusiastic comment - and I hope you're having a great summer, my friend! 💛

I love the drums in the original theme, and I wanted to take those D&B-styled rhythms and expand upon them a bit. I'm happy with how the percussive elements turned out here, and it means a lot to see your positive feedback regarding that aspect.
And wow, what a compliment, to hear that this remix warrants another loop! I try to avoid having the music overstay it's welcome, so to speak, but it's always such a genuine delight when people mention that they'd like it to go on longer! 😊

Man, Theølogy, I can't even put into words how thrilled I am to read your feedback on this remix - thank you so much!! It means the world to know that you enjoyed this one, and I'm glad that you found the faster tempo to be a nice change of pace! I generally find faster songs to be more difficult to remix, because I have difficulty picking out the notes (especially for songs without available sheet music, like this one), and it's tough to make everything articulate at higher speeds, at least for me. 😅 That said, I really do like making higher-BPM remixes, as they're just so exciting and full of energy, and this one in particular got me so pumped up throughout the process - more than anything, I want people to experience those same feelings when they listen and watch, and it's heartening to hear that you did!
The low-passed segment is actually my attempt to re-create the change in music that occurs when you're switching Pokemon, where it transitions to "thinking music". In the original, some of the instruments are dropped out, and it has more of a filtered-down sound, while the kick changes both timbre and rhythm to sound like a heartbeat, which makes it feel all the more tense. Since the regular version has unrelenting intensity, I thought it would help to sort of reset the energy in the middle before the second half of the battle, so to speak. It's awesome to hear that it helped the music to come across as more dynamic, and thanks for saying so!
Oh man those crowd chants are a big part of why I love this theme so much in Sword & Shield. Something about those stadium battles, and the fact that the crowd chanting only kicks in when your opponent Dynamaxes/Gigantimaxes their Pokemon (or when your opponent is down to their last 'mon in online play) just makes it all the more immersive and special. I actually got goosebumps the first time I heard it, and even now, sometimes it still gets me tingly. I really appreciate that the last few generations of Pokemon games have gone out of their way to include authentic touches to reflect the region they're based on, and it sounds like they really hit the mark, based on your experiences overseas! And thanks for sharing that, too - I hope you had a memorable trip! :D

I used the Ultimate Vocal Remover - one of my favorite tools over the past year - to extract the crowd chants from the original Champion Cup track, and even though there were some artifacts in the extraction, there's so much going on in the remix that the noise and residual music frequencies get buried underneath the other stuff, for better or for worse. 😅 To be honest, I didn't originally plan to have them in there, but then they ended up becoming a feature element of the song - I'm glad I kept the original BPM! But wow, to hear that an element that you weren't originally fond of was made better in this remix is seriously high praise - I'm humbled by it!
Thank you very much for your remarks on the percussive elements! I put more time and detail work into those than any other aspect, so it's heartening to hear you sing their praises. ^_^ More than anything, I wanted people to feel fired up by the music, and I hoped that the segments at 0:36 and 1:23 in particular would sound cool! So when I saw you mention that timestamp, I knew right away which part you were referencing - that's my favorite part of the song! And I'm stoked that you like that metallic hit sound - that's quickly become a favorite of mine, and after hours of scouring Splice and some other websites for that specific kind of sound, I was very surprised to find it within FL Studio's own stock percussion! I believe it's called "Grv Metal Hit", and it's just a great sound right out of the box. Honestly, this remix was really just the perfect opportunity to get experimental with the percussive parts, and DnB is such a flexible genre to begin with. Challenging though it was, this song was an absolute blast to work on, and I had been looking forward to remixing this track for a couple years prior!
It really makes my day (and Kali's too) to see you comment on the visuals at length, too, and we appreciate that you always take the time to mention them specifically! As a fellow remixer who pours countless time and energy into his visualizers, you understand the passion that drives them! Kali really enjoys drawing Pokemon and characters from the series, and Raihan is a favorite of hers, so there was extra motivation to really go all-out here. Similarly, Sword & Shield's battles are among my favorite in the franchise (rivaled only by Pokemon Battle Revolution, and I really wanted viewers to share that same level of excitement that I had for Galar stadium battles. I still get chills when the crowd chants kick in after your opponent Dynamaxes/Gigantimaxes their Pokemon, and it makes me feel so proud and happy to see you and others mention that part of the video and music specifically!
And thank you for not only commenting on all aspects of the production, but on all the _people_ involved, as well! I'm a very lucky guy to have a spouse who values and supports his (niche) interests, and it's heartwarming beyond measure that you're always rooting for Kali and both artists and partners - seriously! Thank you also for mentioning Glitchman, and I agree that he is a genuine pillar in our community - much like you are.
Take care, my friend, and thank you again for the wonderful comment! 💛

I appreciate your kind words regarding the video scripting - I really tried to put extra effort into that aspect in particular here. I had fun with the process, though, and I enjoyed looking up the different quotes that the character have and trying to adapt them to this battle scenario. I really wanted to incorporate a Dynamax segment, too, and I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out - again, your remarks on the script really mean a lot!
Thanks again for your enthusiastic comment, and you keep up the great work, as well, my friend - and congratulations on your 100th video today! :D

I'm psyched to hear that this has the intensity that you'd expect from a Galar tournament, as that's exactly the kind of feeling I was going for here! Nothing against Scarlet and Violet, but the battles in those games don't even come close to matching the energy of the stadium battles in Sword and Shield. Those really got me amped up, and it's awesome to hear that this remix had a similar atmosphere for you!
It's also heartening to hear that you feel I've continued to improve, as that's always been and always will be my goal. Likewise, your recent compositions have really been exceptional, and I'm hoping to have an opportunity to comment on them soon, now that this project is complete. Until then, my friend! 🌟

Stunning work! In my opinion, this is one of your best remixes. I love how you highlighted the dynamic nature of the original track with the stunning visuals and segments like 1:12, where you filter out the high frequencies. I really love the energy, the bass and the percussions. Great work! 💥

    • @Equalyze
      @Equalyze  6 місяців тому +1

Wow, thank you so much for that! I'm overjoyed to hear that you feel this is one of my best remixes yet - honestly, it's one of my favorite solo productions from the past couple years, and I am really happy with how it turned out, so seeing your positive feedback on it warms my heart tremendously. 😊
I appreciate your specific mention of the low-passed segment in that middle section, and I'm psyched that you enjoyed it! That part was a direct reference to - and sort-of attempt to recreate - the variation of the theme that plays when switching, or when your Pokemon has been knocked out. As you know, there are few things I love more in video games than dynamic music, and it really makes the situation feel so critical, when the instrumentation gets suppressed a bit and the kick sounds like a heartbeat. That change-up in the music felt amazing to experience, and I really wanted to incorporate it into this arrangement in a similar manner!
Thanks also for mentioning the percussive and bass elements! I had a lot of fun with the D&B styled rhythms, and I wanted them to be a feature element of the song, since the melody is rather subdued and not as tuneful as other tracks in the series. And it's awesome to hear that the overall energy that I hoped to convey came across with such intensity!
The fact that you always take the time to comment on both the music and the visuals means a great deal to Kali and I. Thank you for the unrelenting support and encouragement, DarlingJack! 💛

I'm really glad to see that there are others who really like this song, and I agree entirely - this particular piece is really slept on in the remix community That's part of the reason I chose this one, because I really like making remixes of songs that rarely get covered!
I hope that more people do remix this song, because I'd love to hear some new and unique takes on it - this is the best song in the entire Sword & Shield OST, in my opinion. 😁 Thanks again for taking an interest in this video!
