    Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I learned a lot and I was so curious to consider the XF version. You taking the time to explain the differences was very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. It is very helpful to DW double pedal fans.

    Been having issues with my double bass pedals for a few months now and couldn't figure it out. Tested my driveshaft and that's what it was. This video has helped so much, thank you! I'm for sure getting the trick drive shaft!

      Glad it helped! That's awesome to hear and sucks at the same time lol But I can't even begin to tell you how shocked you'll be the difference once you get it and put it on for the first time! I now own two of the trick shafts and debating a 3rd for my practice kit even!

      @@ZackZweifel Hey, just got the Trick drive shaft today. I put it on and while it made it so much better and smoother, I noticed it doesn't really fit in the pedal all the way, is it the same for you? It's hard to tell from the video. Thanks!

      @Holy yes that is correct. The insert is not as deep. But it has two locks vs one so it's no big deal. But you are correct.

    In all my life I've never had a pair of pedals like my double 9000, it's so nice and smooth it lets me do things I can't do with other pedals. And best of all I bought the double pedal for $225 almost unused. I'm automacically a 20% better player if not more instantaneously when I use that original 9000. And now that I'm playing more blues I don't need the second pedal, so the way they made the first one was so smart, cause you never know when I might just want to add that second bass and it means I always have the choice at my fingertips. And it even has it's own cool carrying case, and we all know chicks dig drummers that carry their double bass pedals in a case. It's also true chicks dig Sax players, so when the babes ask I always say he's gay, you know, increase my odds, cause drummers suck but it's all we got.

    Heel-toe doubles are impossible on the dw9000 because of where the springs are mounted. Especially if you have size 12 or larger feet. You cannot get your foot in the position it needs to be because the springs are on the inside of the pedal instead of elsewhere, so the front of your foot is always dealing with the springs interrupting the stroke.

    Outstanding job reviewing the DW9K gen1 and gen2 dblkick pedals! Bonus points for the Drive Shaft comparison between the 9K's stock shaft and the Trick-DW shaft!
    I plan on buying the 9K XF version next month (with my Tax Refund money! ha ha) AND I will also buy the Trick shaft upgrade.
    I currently played on a used DW5K Accelerator which I upgraded with a set of Pearl Demon direct-drive cams, and a Ludwig Atlas Pro drive shaft which is equivalent to the Trick shaft with super thick linkage. The Ludwig drive shaft gives me zero latency, zero lag, just like the Trick shaft. However, my DW5000 dblkick pedals have run their course, since I bought them Used five years ago...
    ...I downgraded to the DW3000 dblkick pedals which has the double-chain turbo cam, smooth as butter. I'm using my Ludwig Atlas Pro drive shaft on my DW3000 pedals, and I get better action from my 3K than my 5K pedals. So, I am gigging with my DW3000 dblkick pedals.
    I bought my DW3000 pedals in mint condition over a year ago.
    I'll keep my DW3K pedals for practice, and soon I'll have the DW9000 XF with the Trick shaft.
    Yes, the Trick drive shaft does make a huge difference with its bearing linkage design.
    Apart from my Ludwig Atlas Pro drive shaft, I wouldn't recommend anything other than the Trick shaft.
    I play punk, garage-rock, and metal (yep, blast-beats included, LMAO) ...At 58 years old I believe the DW9000 pedals will be easier on my legs and feet with quicker response and smoother action before I get too old to play any more brutally good music.
    Again, thanks for this informative video! 🤘💝👍

      Thanks for checking out the video and the feedback! The 3k is nice but it's definitely a downgrade. I have an old 5k also and it's seen better days but I've had it for so long it's just a part of me lol it's on an old barely used practice kit now!

    This is interesting video! I think the reason of ditching the slave pedal beater holder is the slave pedal doesn't have that floating round axel. So when you split the old 9000 for two bass drums, it's like your having a 9000 pedal on other side and the other is kind like a 5000 or 8000 pedal. Also it takes the extra weight from the left cam. These are just my thoughts and conclusions. And yeah, pedals this expensive should include a ball bearing drive shaft like the Trick drive shaft.

    You might be able to tighten the socket head screws holding those u joints toghether. Should tighten them up a little. Imo still way way worth it for the upgraded driveshaft

    Hi Zack! Love the videos. Would you be kind to share if you had any bad experiences with the new version of the 9000 pedals? I've been looking and researching, to make a decision between this and the Iron Cobras with Rolling glide cam. Read a lot of comments about the 9000 breaking after a short period of time.
    Please, and thank you!!

      I've got 4 sets of 9000 double pedals and 3 singles and none of them have had any issues or broken! I just wish they all came with an upgraded shaft at the price they charge. The Trick shaft wakes up the left foot feel drastically!

  • @tw8126
    @tw8126 8 місяців тому +1

    Question! First, thanks for this vid. I never thought about just replace a drive shaft vs the entire set. 2nd, I was going to replace my Axis Longboards for DW 9000 just because everyone says how good they are. I basically got my Longboards for free, but the slave pedal is trash (definitely due to the shaft). Does your trick shaft work on multiple peda models, or just for the DWs?

    • @ZackZweifel
      @ZackZweifel  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for checking out the video! Trick makes two drive "retro" fit drive shafts. One is more universal (PIV6P) which fits a wide variety, this drive shaft retrofits most pedals from Pearl, TAMA, Yamaha, Ludwig, Mapex, and Gibraltar. And then they specifically make the (P1V6DW) which is claimed to be a DW only design.

    Not to mention that DW is constantly raising their prices on all their products, and all the companies (Toca, Latin Percussion, etc.) that they've acquired in the past few years and raising all the prices on their products.
    If you have a legitimate complaint about a DW product, such as the double pedal drive shaft, call DW and let them know. At the prices you're paying these days, you better let them know.

      I've been a fusion and gospel drummer for years. Endorsed by DW, but want to progress with metal drumming, and am having the hardest time getting past 150 bpm (straight 16ths) with my new direct drive DW9000 double pedals. They feel amazing, but the spring location is a design flaw in my opinion. Trick are looking very interesting to me.

    • @ZackZweifel

      it would be easier to buy a second pedal but as long as you had the tools you should be able to take the one apart and building the second pedal as a single.
