I went exactly in the opposite direction : 1-Using exclusively iTunes/Music to manage my music and playlists so they can be the same in any Dj software. You simply need to setup iTunes for not organizing the files and folders on the drive. Also no store/streaming/online/icloud thing, strictly my local files. 2-I've broken all my folders/sub-folders to have only one main big folder with everything there. All the filtering and organisation are done with the tags in iTunes. Duplicates can be found very easily, replacing files too. 3-Smart playlist with the tags genre+year+rating+comments. All the organisation is done in iTunes (again) so in every software you have the exact same playlists structure. 4-5-6 still doable in iTunes 7-Rating : 5 stars must play /1 star must be deleted. Colors are Serato specific tags, not common ones so they won't transpose anywhere. The rating can be done into grouping tags that Serato can read so you have star rating or emoji into Serato.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 8-Album column is needed to know the name of the riddim in dancehall, reggae and soca. Not hating but you have a Serato centric view of your file management, where with iTunes which is the most common bridge on DJ software you can have the same features and found your structure on whatever platform you need to use. I went from Mixvibes to Scratchlive to Torq to Scratchlive to VDJ to Serato Pro to Rekordbox to Algoriddim to Serato DJ Pro and my database just kept evolving (even going from Windows to Mac).
One thing I would add, is having tons of folders for genres in your main folder is still extra work. If the genre is in the metadata, then you don’t need a folder for each genre, record pool, year…etc EDIT personally, I wouldn’t give someone a whole folder of something but if I wanted to, I could still make a smart Crate real quick, and drag that into a new folder
So something to consider, if you do have multiple folders inside a master folder, it can tax your DJ system slightly over time, trying to load/open all those folders internally. If you tag your music well, & have strong crates, it can help reduce stress on your computer if you just dump your MP3’s into one main folder. If you have a homie that wants a crate you have, you can make a folder out of that crate specifically.
I use vdj for all my library management cause u can access the music files directly without having to load them to a crate 1st. I can move, copy, rename or delete the music files and folders in there. Best of all files and folders can be color coded and the files can be sorted and filtered by the colors. All there are filter folders (like what ur calling smart crates) that can detect duplicates all from within the software.
Great video covering a handful of different approaches. Love seeing your dedication to this topic. I’m always astonished when I see how disorganized most other DJs have their files. Looking forward to seeing MLT evolve.
nice make sense now the work starts cause i'm start over sorta to get more organize will comment at a later date to let you know how it thanks for the video keep it going always like learning others way s\o i don't feel stuck
I got rid of itunes a few yrs back and went back to folders by genre...which is actually the old tried and true way. This way may sound hard but it is worth the effort.
Hi there, i have a question, I have got a denon mc 3000 dj controller, launched in 2012, its pretty old one but it's still works fine. I wanted to ask that should I sell it and get a new one or should I keep using it. I dont have money to buy new one though . Your opinion will be appreciated bro. Thank you.
Cee B, incredible work as usual bro. You have made DJ organization so much better since I began watching your videos about a year ago. Appreciate you sharing the knowledge 💯 Just had a question, obviously it's 2023 I was wondering why you have you new music crate as 2024? I know you have a logic behind it just curious. Last question.... Why do you find it necessary to have a genre folder if you mainly use your scenario folders for your sets? Is it easier to pull from the genre folders to create the scenario sets? Just trying to wrap my head around all of it. Thank you!
Just getting into DJing, I'm learning tons from people like yourself on youtube. 20+ years ago when the first Ipods came out, I ripped everything from cd to itunes in the most compressed format (we were all trying to cram as much into that 20 gig device). Now I'm ripping from cd to flac and rebuilding my library on a laptop used exclusively for music. So much work, but I know it will be worth it.
I am struggling with NOT using Apple Music because this is where I do most of my listening throughout the day, in my car, at home and in between. I believe it is important to know your music so because it’s convenient that’s why I use Apple Music. Thoughts on an alternative?
How do you create a music library? All my music is on Spotify, I want to add music to my Serato light dj. Do I need to download the music to my hard drive on my laptop?
Question on your MLT's. Where do you get your year information for the tools? There are many out there like Musicbrainz Picard that will get year information but it almost always gives you years from "Best of" albums and not the songs actual release year. I'd hate get another set of tools that gives "best of" album years.
Been DJing for a minute. Thought I would share how I organize my 55,000 tracks Every Wednesday I download music (usually 50-100 songs a week) from two different record pools. I immediately run the songs through the metatag editor. So that it fits very defined conventions. For instance, if Cardi B is doing a song with Future it's always Cardi B feat Future, never f., with, /, etc. If a song has cursing it's always (explicit), never dirty. Once everything has been tagged the songs are dragged into the library on my SSD which is organized alphabetically by artist. This makes it very easy to suss out duplicates. Everything then gets imported into a traktor folder which contains all of my music from the last 3 months. There I list everything alphabetically by title the check and see if there's any duplicates I missed. For instance, one record pool might have dropped that song week earlier, but listed it as Future feat Cardi B.
I love Apple Music because it creates a cleaner look… everything’s in alphabetical order… but you are right it is tedious to do both and i think music is deleting songs smh
Hello mate you seem to know what your doing lol I’ve just started I’m using DJCity I’ve put loads into my Serato Dj lite and saved all to crates. So all good so far so how do I delete the files of Serato page like I say there in my crates but haven’t a clue I can delete of my windows 11 computer but can’t work out how to delete of Serato any help mate I would appreciate Cheers in advance
He selected all the tracks that needed the genre to be renamed, then he renamed the genre in one of them and confirmed the prompt to rename the genre of all the selected tracks.
10:37 all my tracks are on my hard drive, to delete from my hard drive can I just drag tracks from serato on my hard drive and delete ? Is that going to delete the track or tracks I dragged over as well as the original track on my hard drive also?
I don't use genres because, much like gender, they can be very fluid. Take a song like Queen "another One bites the dust." Is it Disco, pop, rock, funk, or cheese? It all depends on what you play before or after. Instead I organize my crates by party. Perhaps the crowd at this company party I'm about to play is similar to a wedding I did last year. I'll duplicate that folder, erase any tracks that don't make sense, and add any that have come out since which capture that vibe along with any requests they might have made beforehand.
@@DJCEE_B I am surprised already bro! I know many people that use either serato and/or rekordbox, none of them touch iTunes. 🤣 To be fair some of them won't even touch digital stuff so 🤷♂️ 😂

When you changed it from Hip Hop/ R&B into Hip Hop/Rap so fast? What was short cut buttons on your keyboard that you did?
He selected all the tracks that needed the genre to be renamed, then he renamed the genre in one of them and confirmed the prompt to rename the genre of all the selected tracks.
thanks for this bro
No worries
🔥🔥🔥
I’m two days in on the app. What would have taken me weeks or months was done in two days. Thanks ✊🏿
I download my stuff open it and then its in Music/ITunes anyway and saves in Serato automatically where I than organize. Any problem with that?
Thx
