Neil Diamond songs are infectious.
They were probably one of the first manufactured band ever and now the music world is full of such acts. They were a fun band & we all enjoyed them 'cos it looked as though they were having a fun time as well R I P Davey Jones sing loud & clear forever may your spirit always be at peace.
My favorite Monkees song - and one of the greatest records ever. R.I.P., Davy Jones.
Davy Jones totally underrated vocalist in the 60s. RIP my friend and thank you for all the wonderful songs and memories. Your music will live forever..
R.I.P. Davy Jones, Thank you for been such a great legend that I cherish. You're in a better place. I'm one of your fans and thanks for the memories.
Great song that makes me feel young again. I should listen to these guys more often.
They belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Monkees had many hits and millions of fans.
They inspired a generation with music, magazines, a TV show, cereal box records and on and on.
What is the Hall waiting for?
George Vreeland Hill
One of my favorite Monkees songs!
Micky Dolenz was also a great (underrated) singer. Together, with Davey, The Monkees were blessed in the vocal dept.
Ooh Yea! Nice to hear this song again.R.K.
Best Monkees song x
The best Monkees track.
I used to like watching the tv programme with them on it,always did like them
Trying to explain who The Monkees were to my kids after Davy Jones passed away. Finallly, I said "They were the Big Time Rush of the late 1960's", and they got it!
So simple and so great at the same time!
totally agree with mr james r nolan-- was a great fan of the 60s and still a fan of this classic candy floss bubble gum pop which still lasts the realms of time, unlike the rubbish hip hop rap one dimensional manufactured clap trap nowadays.. rock on tork nesmith dolenz and jones,, legends and thanks for this great nostalgic tune- my fav is still Last train to clarksville- best wishes to all genuine pop music lovers .. or shall i say real music lovers( lady gaga and cheryl cole fans stay out)
By Davy, thanks for making my younger years a happy time
This is a killer song. And the acoustic guitar riffs are superb.
I agree. They do belong in the Hall of Fame. They DID make a difference in the music scene. Let's not forget just who they were going up against. The whole British invasion, Beatles and all. They held their own...in my humble opinion.
gosh I'm so glad you found some good old fashion music ty
The Monkees gave us some great music
R.I.P. DAVEY JONES
I always thought you were the cutest Monkee!
Great memories of all the diverse music of the 60;s
1967: back when Neil Diamond was still a staff writer for Screen Gems-Columbia Music and recording on Bang Records, out of Atlanta. This was the last Don Kirshner-helmed 45 for the band; after a major fight over the band's direction and Mike Nesmith threatened to rearrange Kirshner's face, he was removed from the project. Nesmith wrote the B-side, "The Girl I Knew Somewhere", but Kirshner hated Nesmith's vocals and had Micky Dolenz sing it instead. This single did not appear on an LP until their first "Greatest Hits" package in 1969. Be at peace, Davy and Peter.
One of their best.
On this date in 1967 {Mar. 25th} "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it would peaked at #2 {for 1 week}and spent 10 weeks in the Top 100.
Ranked 60th on the Billboard's Year-End Hot Top 100 Singles of 1967 chart...
Written by Neil Diamond...
The B-sided also charted, "The Girl I Knew Somewhere", it reached #39...
Was their only record to peak at #2; but did have three #1s {"Last Train to Clarksville", "I'm A Believer", and "Daydream Believer"...
one of the great davy monkee songs.....
A superb single; pure pop. One of the more bearable Davy Jones fronted singles.. And yes, they deserve their place in any Hall of Fame as they were an excellent example of the 'mainstream' trying react to 'counterculture' - and performed superbly.
Ill never understand the hatred for Davy ! What is it with you people ? They reached heights they would have never reached without him ! Oh i know , money isnt everything ! It is when you are trying to make records ! I dont understand why people cant get that !
Rip davy jones, memories of a young kid
I love the Monkees and this is probably my favorite tune. We'll miss you, Davy.
This is most favorite Monkees song sung by Davy Jones.
R.I.P. Mr. Jones. God Bless
@MrJamesrnolan Agreed. In my "old age", I have a new appreciation for these guys. Sure, the TV show was silly, but their music has endured and holds up quite well against many others. Davey Jones was one helluva singer, too.
The Monkees were the first concert I ever saw. I was in tenth grade & they were at the Minnesota state fair. I can still remember to this day that this was the fourth song that they played.
1967: the last of the Don Kirshner-helmed singles. Wasn't released in stereo until the 'greatest hits' collection in 1969. Neil Diamond, who wrote "I'm a Believer" and a few songs for himself, wrote this one. Released on Colgems, named for Columbia Pictures and its Screen Gems TV subsidiary, and distributed by RCA in the US only. Released on RCA/RCA Victor in the rest of the world.
great !!!! our Youth !!
God I love this song soooooooooo much. Rest Peacefully Davy Jones. Your voice will be sadly missed.
So many childhood memories of The Monkees and their TV show. =) Love this song.
great song from may 1967
Rest in Peace Davy Jones!!...
R.I.P. Peter Tork..:( Loved your music way back when.:)
Das beste Monkees Stück!!
I've had enough of the snobbery hurled at the Monkees. They made fantastic pop records. Those songs were written by some of best songwriters in the biz (compared to the mediocre hackwork of the hits of today). They were "manufactured", but this doesn't make them disposable, and they eventually wrestled control of the music from their handlers. Mike Nesmith was an excellent songwriter not given enough credit for his pioneering forays into country rock. And their TV show was a gas.
Nice one Mr. Diamond!
This song went No.2 in the summer of 1967.
great songs. greater memories.
choreographed my first dance to to this song when i was about 6 or 7. had to "preform" for my parents...ahhhhh that was fun..
I was in udder shock when i heard the sad news this morning. Half of Beatles have been gone and I thought all the Monkees were going to be around a little while longer and maybe to a 50th anniversary tour together. R.I.P. Davy!
❤️❤️❤️❤️ ohhh have mercy!!!!! I’m a Peter girl! R.I.P. Peter! ❤️
R.I.P. Davy Jones.....
A manufactured band/artist generally means those performers dont see a fraction of the income and royalties they would have had if they werent manufactured. This was the case with the Monkees and even today with Cowell/Idol`s shortlived "stars". The only Monkee band member who made any real money from the band was Mike Nesmith who had his songs on several b-sides and on the albums and thus had sizeable songwriting royalties.
My opinion is different. They have some okay songs, some nice ones too. But the TV show was fantastic. For me their show was the reason for their success. So funny!
I think the thing one needs to ask themselves..... Do you like it? Did you like it? Then listen watch look and listen. If not there are other channels. I watched them with my kids growing up, and they as well as I liked them, so put the Critisisum aside and enjoy! Or find something else. But as for me, I still enjoy them as dop my kids, and probably grand kids.
Man, I'm memberin sum so very cool jam's, you?
I Agree too
The Monkees are a successful band.
thankssssssssssss.
Yes their music was timeless..I did see them in 1986 and 1988 sans Mike:( but very good!
Sounds like Cherry Cherry ! No surprise this tune was penned by Neil Diamond :) GROOVY TUNE AND LOVE THE MONKEES ! THANKS !
RIP Peter Tork
R.I.P. Davy
@airtron24 same here,a top song from a top band
There were two versions of this, one with the original "She Hangs Out" the other with "The Girl I Knew Somewhere",as the flip.
@MrJamesrnolan You're absolutely right.
@GoldenOldiesOn45RPM You're mostly right but Michael Nesmith was savvy in the business and after long convincing meetings with the rest of the band, and he eventually took over as the manager and they did do quite well. All of them thanks to him in most part. He also was a part of many "collaboration" With Bobby Hart and the other guy "can't think of him at this moment." He was already an accomplished guitarist when he joined them. Their story is quite inspiring.
Still got the 45
@MrJamesrnolan totally agree!
@GeorgeVreelandHill
Hey! It's George Vreeland Hill!
__;''''::"*POR SIEMPRE LOS 60"S EN MI MENTE Y CORAZON''*''"*__
@MrJamesrnolan A freaking men brother!
i agree with you totally. look at this shit there playing today. and they call that music?
The 1969 stereo mix of this song is better than this one. This one here is the 1987 mono mix of the song. Although it does have handclaps that the stereo mix doesn't have, it lacks the adverb from the backing vocals that the stereo mix has, and additional vocals can be heard over the instrumental bridge that the mono mix doesn't have. Also the mono mix has a shorter fade than the stereo mix, which makes it inferior in my opinion.
Their third LP 'Headquarters' had no guest musicians at all.... in response to the alegations they had no music talent, they wanted to prove it by doing all the instruments and vocals themselves. That LP featured a few songs that made the charts.
Yes, but no songs from the "Headquarters" album charted in America as no songs from it were singles in America.
Not forgetting Cheap Trick.
My friends in school who are the monkees?! Lmao 😆
@wombchakra My bad. Thank you.
Written by Neil Diamond himself
@MrJamesrnolan Hey, a good song is a good song. Nuff said.
Yes. The T. V. show was silly, but I loved their music, I agree with the above comments by Lesbian Vamp Lover.
Tommy Boyce.....
Neil Diamond
YES THEY IMPRESSED THEMSELVES SO MUCH THAT MIKE NESMITH AND PETER TALKE LEFT THE BAND BECAUSE THEY HATED WHAT THEY WERE DOING , NOT THAT I BLAME THEM BUT THE SNOBBERY CAME PARTLY FROM THEMSELVES LOL
@warmensmitty I agree. The Monkees had more hits than many of the Rock Hall's inductees. Sad to see bands like the Monkees, Tommy James and the Shondelles, Badfinger, Boston, KISS, Rush, Chicago, Journey, Styx, Def Leppard and Bonjovi not in the Rock Hall.
again with bon jovi, they suck and def leppard, what they had a couple albums and 2 decent songs, are you people crazy
@MrJamesrnolan who cares where they said it. they said it
@oranger2525 Bon Jovi is eligible. The Rock Hall requires an artist to be 25 years removed from their first album release in order to be eligible. I think Bon Jovi's first album came out in either '84 or '85. I'm assuming Pat Benetar and Joan Jett are also both eligible. Deep Purple is also eligible but has never been inducted.
what the f, bon jovi is the most overated musician, if that's what you call him, in history, pat benetar, are you freaking nuts, joan jett and deep purple yes
@spiderdragon1969 I agree. But I'm not sure if Bon Jovi is eligible. Of the group you've listed I think he/they will be in. And I'd like to ask the RnR HoF what about Pat Benatar, Heart and Joan Jett?
god you people are stupid, who cares if bon jovi is eligible , he sucks, and if pat benetar gets in , tear it down, geez
probably my fave too
