A funny crowning story
During Lady Camden’s crowning, one of the confetti cannon’s didn’t fire and they didn’t reshoot the crowning, making it obvious to the crowd and to spoilerinas that Willow was taking it.

Interesting you talked about the transphobia in earlier seasons. Just a week ago, a compilation of Season 2 of Untucked’s best moments was released, and I’ve seen these episodes but was so taken aback realizing how hateful the queens were to anyone they suspected of being trans… the entire season Raven kept digging into Tatianna saying she’s not a drag queen she wants to be a girl?? The classic “she’s just a pretty face” trope but they kept taking it too far and discounting her just because she was fish and Tati had to keep defending herself it was so awkward…
They were doing it constantly, we're watching older seasons for the first time rn and on season 3 it still happens ALL THE TIME I was really taken aback

The irony is so many trans queens are and have been staples of the drag scene. If you look at the pageant world, (which before drag race, was pretty much one of the most prestigious titles one could obtain in the drag scene) so many title-holders are trans. I think the show pushed one incomplete narrative about what drag is, but I'm glad it's widening now. Drag exists outside of drag race. Support local queens!

@@blackmanta9697its not even irony even before the pagent scene the majority of drag queens were trans women and to just be a gay man (or butch queen) was a lesser than category rupaul intentionally made a space where gay men (who had more social clout) could compete to be the best at drag intentionally excluding women. This didnt work because so many queens arebtrans and most of the best queens are trans but still that imtention is there
it would be so beneficial for them to post old lipsyncs and clips on their youtube maybe in the quiet months where a new regular season or all stars aren’t streaming, people constantly go to illegal websites which take away from their viewship so posting more clips online could really save them
I saw a tweet that pointed out they haven’t uploaded 3 of the most iconic yvie lipsyncs. The thought of how much revenue they could have garnered but haven’t…I def don’t think it’s their choice though!

Exactly I religiously go back every month on like 10+ years old compilation to watch the best season 1-4 lipsyncs like Raja vs Carmen, Jujube vs Sahara etc. It's absurd how much money they could make

Fun fact: Madonna the Rusical actually was cut down to remove Sherry Pie performing. Half of her section as film Madonna doing a more intricate dance was completely cut out, the only evidence of it existing being the second half of the segment being available on streaming and an entire rehearsal is online with no cuts
One of the weirdest things is RuPaul thinking Blair St. Clair did the shiver and shush thing but she actually she only shivered. It was really Bendelacreme (season 6) on ep 6 runway.

S1 is better than most if not all of the double digit seasons

Random lost media? The original extended cut of the promo for Season 4. Starts with Ru in boy drag walking down an all white hall with an elevator musak version of "Jealous of My Boogie" playing in the background. She arrives at a door with a keypad, punches in a code, and as she enters the door transforms into that gorgeous gold garment from the original promo. Then it pretty much continues as the one we've seen. Any leads?
one fact you didn't mention- a french tv station played the og edit of s12 episode 3, as they didn't have the new edit due to distribution issues & sherry was heavily featured

Before the older seasons of drag race got removed from U.K. Netflix a few months ago, that season 6 mini challenge was still in the episode

another clip lost to time is that time during all stars 2 airing that Phi Phi O'Hara was calling out production on twitter claiming they edited her to look bad and they uploaded an unedited clip of the judging critiques just to prove her wrong. Only time we've seen a judge critique in full
it was at a live performance and the audio used to be on youtube; phi phi told the audience that carson's critiques to herself were actually for alyssa, so they uploaded the entirety of carsons comments to both of them

Willam talks on race chaser a fair bit about the “ladies room” which was essentially the season 4 version of the shade tree. It was a bathroom set (that you can actually see in the opening to Hot in Tuckahoe) that was intended to be a place for queens to air out their thoughts and feelings while filming, but like the shade tree it was just never used.
That bathroom was seen in the wrestling challenge when Jaremi and Lashauwn are confronted by Latrice and Kenya. It's also shown again in the final three episode when Raja and James (Tyra) show up to chat with the queens
I didn’t realize in season 6 Laganja was wearing a hat that said “Sonique” on it!
Sonique dressed Adore for S6, so it was probably hers.
Trixie also confirmed on unhhhh that they filmed a double crowning between her and Kennedy for all stars 3
It's not "lost media" regarding Drag Race per se but there was a 2001 Italian drag show that Rupaul guest judged called "Tacchi a spillo" but the show now is basically lost - nothing is archived except news regarding the show.
this is very interesting, I can't find anything about it except for a trailer of a spanish movie about drag queens called tacchi a spillo in italian. All I know about RuPaul in Italian television is her and Elton John performing at the Sanremo festival.
in the same regard there was a Mexican drag show that was a spinoff of the Chilean show 'Versus Drag Queens' called 'Versus Drag Queens: Edición México' and it featured April Carrión as a guest judge in one episode. The company behind VDQ removed almost every episode of each season from UA-cam and only select episodes can be viewed from the entire 4+ season show. The track records of VDQ: Edición México are still available but people will never get to see moments such as Abora and Gvarjardo's unfortunate and emotional exit, Xuxú's breakdown after being nominated, Tiresias' hero edit to Becky's villain edit, and Liza's empowering return speech.
I fully think that the producers “lost” Coco and Arts lipsync and made them redo it multiple times because they wanted Art to win
no actually the reason they had to redo it multiple times was because they lost the footage for the first version where coco won and when they went to reshoot it the next morning they needed to refilm it to have the same outcome, however the first time they re-shot it they told coco she wasn't giving enough and they ended up redoing it 2 more times so they actually reshot it multiple times because they wanted COCO to win and not art. makes it understandable why they brought art back though because her treatment was pretty unprofessional.

Little correction: DeJa lipsynced solo to "Levitating", but on the Snatch Game episode (it is confirmed by Jasmine Kennedie in her whatcha packing video). Ru allegedly wanted DeJa to do a "lipsync for her pleasure", but DeJa wasn't expecting to lipsync and didn't know the words, so they scrapped the lipsync.
I still think the shadiest bit of Drag Race lost media has to be the unedited critiques of Alyssa during AS2 that were uploaded to Logo's website. At a Roscoes viewing party, Jaremi claimed that Alyssa receiving the critique "This is fashion and I love it" was actually given to Detox but edited to look like a critique for Alyssa. A day or so later Logo uploaded a clip of Carson Kressley and Jeremy Scott's unedited critiques for Alyssa to prove Jaremi wrong.
Shadiness aside, it was so cool seeing a stripped back version of the judge's critiques with no background music or sound effects, and seeing Carson look down at his notepad between his comments. Also puts into perspective how long those poor gals are standing up there when 6 or more queens are each receiving ~5 min of notes per judge. No wonder the critiques portion ends up taking close to 2 hours sometimes.

All Stars 3 also had a double crowning! Trixie mentions it in her documentary "Moving Parts"

It's been rumoured that All Stars 6 had 10 different crownings. Each of the finalists, plus each top 2 tie option! I don't believe it was ever confirmed, though
Yeah, it's the footage they used to crown Trinity and Monét on AS4, that's why that footage feels choppy and why Trinity and Monét are genuienly shocked.
Violet and Trixie I’m pretty sure confirmed that they got half a suit but had to do everything else themselves and was a design challenge
I remember violet saying in No Gorge that they gave them full suits and dress’s and had to add accessories and that she was mad it didint make the cut
Hi! I actually have a copy of the full video of S11's Meet the Queens. It definitely is kind of full of Aquaria doing her best with the worst conditions, but also an example of the like absolutely zero chemistry Adam Rippon had with the queens, like he definitely could not handle Vanjie. Let me know if you want a copy of it!
I remember watching that livestrem and Aquaria was pissed that the year before Sasha did the interview with the S10 queens and for S11 Aquaria had to do those challenges with the queens instead of interviewing them like sasha velour did, but it was very funny to watch

I'm part of a small lost media community and this video reminded me of how important that hobby is. I had no idea such a documented show (all stars, untucked, whatcha packin, pit stop etc.) would have lost media, but it actually makes sense because of the amount of stuff they film for it. Lee Dawson’s edit of season 11’s reveal was high art and camp
There is something ELSE that was cut from Season 12, a very tiny thing that I remember from the broadcast, and you can kind of still see the edits. Rock M. Sakura's Ball Look reminded the judges of a flu virus and she mimicked coughing several times on the runway, including as she was leaving the runway and walking backstage. And I remember when it was airing in early 2020 distinctly thinking, oh god, this is really really bad timing lol. And lo and behold, I cannot find the coughing edit again. It's probably only on pirated rips from the night it aired.
Not quite, the king of lip sync cuts Jordan T clocked that and posted a side-by-side comparison way back then, it's still up

Concerning the Sherry Pie edit- she’s visible in the Madonna Rusical during the ending group shots wearing the “Don’t cry for me Argentina” dress from Evita, she definitely had a verse of her own that they cut. So while they mostly didn’t remove stuff from the main challenges, they definitely made significant changes to the Rusical.
I remember her Evita verse on the show, it wasn't cut. It's just cut from the UA-cam version.

@@pietrox131695 Were you able to watch live, or did you watch it on a streaming platform? I believe it was WOW+ I saw the episode on, and her verse had definitely been cut. It may have been a few days after the initial airing
I also remember the bonus scene of the rehearsal from the cheerleader challenge on season 9 where the choreographer asked the queens who could do the splits, and asked them to show it to everyone on the rehearsal, all the queens doing jump splits at the same time, out of drag, i also remember that LogoTV uploaded on their site many bonus stuff from season 5 at the time

Season 11, the episode of the 6 way lipsync, the fringe runway, Shuga Cain comes with a native american outfit.
Michelle ask a question to Shuga about her origin (if she was really a native american and about cultural appropriation). It was really weird.
This was aired on TV but every streaming platform cut out the segment of Michelle asking this question.
One thing that is missing is when Jaremi was speaking out against WOW for All Stars 2 about who was getting which critiques. WOW uploaded the full uncut runway critiques for episode 3 onto UA-cam to try and show Jaremi was lying and it’s been since removed.
I thought that was cause the guest judge that episode said that they Didn't call Alyssa’s Outfit that week fashion and that they edited it and WoW Posted a response by showing him fully saying the critiques
@@xxXantixxno, they uploaded the unedited critiques after Jaremi said that Alyssa was highly favored and alleged that Alyssa's "this is fashion" critique was actually given to Detox. WOW released Alyssa's full unedited critique to prove it was directed at her and not Detox and that Jaremi had lied.
You alluded to it, but Logo's web site used to have a LOT of extra footage from challenges. Notably Snatch Game you'd get at least one or two more questions each season. (Ex., I think Darriene actually got to answer a question in S6 -- if you notice the regular edit it's just the initial hello and just banter after that).
Also, on season 6, the episode where the queens had to makeover men was taken off of streaming services for the longest time. This was because Joslyn Fox's makeover contestant was embarrassed and couldnt stand to see himself on tv looking like that.
There is more to it than that. He was a cheater and his wife gave him punishment by making him appear on a make over show, he didn't know it was going to be drag show until they got to the studio. So she essentially forced him into doing drag as penance for his cheating, even though he was very uncomfortable the whole time. Apparently she did it to embarrass him and so he sued, causing WoW to pull the episode from there on out.
the biggest piece of lost media is when in season 1 RuPaul goes ham on one of the queens (Shannel) and screams: "I PUT YOU FIRST IN THIS COMPETITIOOOOON". we got it in the trailer for the season, but the extract never ever aired.
Can I just say, I appreciate you actually just saying Sherry’s name. Idk why, but it’s such a pet peeve of mine when people censor or use dumb nicknames when talking about problematic people like her. Like, I get the reasoning behind it, but at the end of the day you’re still talking about them so the people who know know who you’re talking about, and the people who don’t might be lost. I don’t think she deserves any kind of respect, but I also think how some people “get around” talking about her is ridiculous so, again, I appreciate you just using her name when talking about her.
SAME, it gets so annoying when I'm watching a video and names like Sherry Pie, Sharon Needles, or Scarlet Adams are censored. Yes they're horrible people but it was so annoying getting into the fandom years ago when the literal winner of season 4 was censored everytime she was brought up and I had no idea why. Even now sometimes they'll be brought up and I'll have to do a double take wondering who they're talking about. I get we don't wanna give them a platform but avoiding their name can do more harm than good if not everyone knows who they should be against

The one piece of lost/unmade media I really want is that comic book that Chad and Shannel were supposed to appear in as their AS1 prize in the superhero runway challenge (you know, the one where Jujubee and Raven lipsync). I've looked but never heard anything about it since, either it got made and did so poorly that it's just scrubbed or that's another prize the girls didn't get.
I have to say something. There used to be a drag race clip, available on youtube, that showed rupaul sitting behing her desk, in full drag, but wearing swetpants under her gown. It was a really short clip, black and white, and Ru looked at the camera briefly while sitting down. The clip is not available anymore on YT. Has anyone else seen it???

Season 4's Dragazines challenge had a separate pre-taped segment that had the queens answering an advice column called "Dear Draggy" (a parody of Dear Abby) but they were all cut. They also took out them critiquing the queens for their design choices on their magazine covers even though they never physically did the covers themselves. They had someone else do them haphazardly. This is all according to Willam
I want to see The footage of Tatianna saying "shut The f*ck up or i'll make you shut up" to Tyra, because the cameras were on but they didnt show anything about it on the episode and we were left with a He said she said situation
Lost media is fun to discover!
Nearly 10 years ago I tweeted at WOW and asked if Season 1 would be available on DVD. They responded that they were unable to release it because of copyright issues with the music. At that time all other seasons were available on DVD which is funny thinking about now as most seasons are available on streaming :)
Yes, there was a copyright issue with the Destiny's Child songs "Say My Name" and "Independent Women 1" not sure the exact fact because it has been 14 years, but when they initially did Drag Race, they were unsure if it would be a hit or flop completely. So they didn't get the extended copyright on those two songs, which they did because Michelle Williams was the guest judge. The DVDs didn't come out until 2012 right before season 4 began to air. By that point, they had lost the permission to use the two songs, which were obviously the main point of the challenge and episode. This is why season 1 was never put on DVD, and then season 1 was unavailable for years and years, until WoW renewed the copyright so that they could air the episodes again using the songs. So yeah 10 years ago they were unable to air the episode or put it on DVD.
SP’s Madonna Rusical section was cut down by about half. If you listen to the track on streaming, her section was originally longer
I cannot believe you didn’t include the AS7 reunion that was hosted by Bob and Monet for their UA-cam channel!!! WoW sent them a cease and desist to not upload it!
I wish they would bring back DragU. I actually really enjoyed it. I know Ru is extremely busy, so I could understand him not having time. But maybe it could be a thing where each season they use the latest All Stars winner as the host or something. That’d be really fun.

I was a teenager when "The Rupaul Show" was on. It was a lot of campy fun. I'm pretty sure the reason it isn't available to stream is musical performances. Lots of divas, including a pre "Believe" Cher.
The extra clips from LOGO that we lost absolutely haunt me. I wasn't watching at the time but I'd give anything to have what was posted of S5 and AS2!
I can think of a couple more:
- Monet vs Jinkx full lipync
- Season 1 Untucked (It had a different name)
- The hilarious audition tape of Jaymes Mansfield
I actually do think Sherry's part in the Madonna Rusical may have been trimmed down from its original length. It seems innocuous at first, however listening to the full thing on Apple Music (or spotify or whatever 😒) her verse as Eva Peron Madge had its back section completely removed from broadcast. Whether this was ever actually filmed or trimmed for time before everything with her went down, I don't know. However, Sherry did record the vocals for a more upbeat back half of her verse, so it's possible they cut corners with her wherever they could
I recall some moments in Season 1 that seem to have been edited out. Like when Pork Chop was lip syncing for her life and didn’t know the words, Rupaul called her out on it. I also remember Rupaul asking Jade “how big is it?” when they were discussing her “meaty tuck”

More about the alternate crowning: there's photos of Jujubee and Miz Cracker with the scepter from AS5
AS5 was the first season I watched and I vividly remember when those photos were leaked. She's photo with her scepter was leaked first, and allegedly, someone from WOW decided to leaked Jujubee's and Cracker's the next day as a response to that in order to "save" the surprise of Shea winning the season
I don't know if this counts as lost media but has anyone noticed that Violet's and Pearl's finale performances and interviews were cut from streaming? Like why would they do that lol

Aquaria is not cringe in that Meet the Queens - she's adorable! The whole thing was ridiculous - but she played off it as best she could and everyone seemed to have a good time.
As far as social media experimentation goes, I also remember randomly stumbling on Instagram videos 5 or 6 years ago of the girls each doing their adlibs for "Can I get an Amen?" from Season 5. Like a full 30-40 second of each girl doing an adlib which included Jinx doing the infamous held note.
Edit: Nvm there is youtube upload of them all form 10 years ago that I never knew about - search "Can I get an amen adlib"

From what I read, the reason season 1 was not on streaming or in syndication was because they didn’t get some of the licensing for the lipsync songs (specifically the Destiny’s Child songs)
Also correct. When Paramount+ started putting up drag race, they did not have all stars 5 for the LONGEST time. They did got 1-4 and then 6 then they put on 5

That's true! I have Paramount and S1-4 of AS then AS6 but AS5 wasn't posted for a long time 😂😂😂 I think it wasn't even available during AS7

The alternate eliminations! I know that Bianca, Adore, Courtney and Darienne have talked about how all of them had to shoot their elimination on the penultimate episode of Season 6. I think Courtney said she volunteered to have her elimination shot first. So they didn't know who would be the top3 until the end of the penultimate episode. I don't know if that's how it was done for any other seasons.
Nirvana was on the rupaul show, rupaul made Kurt Cobain sing her merry Christmas or something like that. It’s the only thing I found about that episode.

Season 12 on Paramount+ being the full edit was real. I watched it for the first time when it dropped on Paramount, and then tried to re-watch it again recently and it's a totally different edit.
There's a version of season 8 that has rupaul and michelle commentating the episodes and there are a bunch of fact bubbles on the screen as well. makes it unbearable to watch but i haven't seen anyone talking about it

Drag Race Thailand is unavailable everywhere because the production company in Thailand that produced/funded the show can't continue to pay for the rights to all of the songs they used in the season. Every lip sync song is a huge song from a huge record label, and the company distributing the season apparently is no longer in operation. Therefore it had to be removed from distribution.
I rememeber seeing on tiktok there was a promotional video of RuPaul anouncing drag race was coming to Germany way before it was officially announced to be in the work

What was weird to me was that they sometimes showed Sherry’s runways and sometimes they didn’t (even when placing Safe with no need to showcase her).
Except when she won, there wouldn’t have been any reason to show her being critiqued on the runway either.
another more cut than missing piece of media was the down under episode 5 untucked that wasn't in the released episode.
from what i remember being spread around, it was cut because it consisted of most of the queens (but notable etcetera etcetera) basically all being angry at sc*rlet ad*ms, because that was the episode ru adressed her blackface. It's also said to be the reason why etcetera was put into the bottom that episode because it was painfully obvious that production wanted a redemption and winner storyline for scarlet (that ultimately never came because why the hell would she get one?) and etcetera wouldve gotten in the way of that

I think with the Morgan Vs Cracker thing, the idea that they refilmed it because Morgan was beating Cracker too hard in the lip sync was debunked by Morgan herself. She said it was because they were having audio issues, I believe. I don’t remember where she said it, maybe at Roscoe’s, but I remember hearing it.
Something that wouldn’t be considered lost media, but I still find really interesting is the way that Untucked is uploaded to Paramount+. Paramount+ is supposed to be the home of all things Drag Race in America, but literally every season of Untucked up until Season 10 is missing from the service, including All Stars 1. Plus, all of the seasons that aren’t Paramount+ exclusives (everything except All Stars 6, 7, and 8 and their respective Untucked’s) are censored on the service when the uncensored cuts are very easily available elsewhere.
