That's a great list, Steve. I'd put Blur and the Smiths in my top 10 for sure. I was surprised to see the Beatles so high on your list. I'm a big fan of The Cure and The Clash. I love Morrissey's lyrics. They're so theatrical and literate. 👍
You used the band Bad Nerves as the thumbnail!! I just saw their show yesterday here in Italy🤘 Great video btw, awesome mix between classic and newer rock & punk
That is too funny. Italy! Okay, I have become a big fan of The Gluts. Their new album may make my top 10, it is so darn good. I did really try to mix it up, too many people get focused on all the older groups, still great music coming out! Thanks for watching. Bad Nerves, I have heard of that group
Hello Steve, your video made me wish to be part of the thread myself. Thanks for the Stones and for World Party so high in the chart. Obvious for me as well. UK bands are my main section in the collection. See you soon in the VC. Bruno
Bruno, always a pleasure to hear from you my friend. UK has an incredible amount of bands, blows me away. No one has mentioned World Party which surprises me, talk about a band that did not make a bad album.
Howdy Steve! Another great video! XTC and The Smiths! Some of my faves! Oranges & Lemons is a great album!! Probably my fave by them as well if not the top 3. Nonsuch is also up there for me as well as English Settlement. The Cure is also a great one! Thanks for sharing Steve!
Hello Mr. Carlson. Terrific List. Hard to argue with most of those. I might have substituted a few on your list but all together a solid selection. And I completely applaud you for your number one. I think most would feel compelled to have to put The Beatles as one. But you are right. Those dudes are still rockin’ and making solid music. For that alone they deserve that ranking. Their longevity is astronomically amazing. Love The Stones. Have an awesome day my friend.
Victor, my putting the Stones at number 1 has been quite controversial lol. That’s the fun of the list, compelling people to participate. To choose only 25 UK bands is an I,possible task
Love your list! Of course, I'm a bit biased too as someone who lives in the UK. Must be quite hard to decide which 25 make the cut. Great video and very informative. Thank you!
100 people will have 100 different lists. UK was tough to do. For a small island it has so many incredible bands. I tried to mix it up with some new and old bands to keep it a little more interesting
Have to admire people that can put together best of lists, so much fun to view. I can't, no matter how simple the task. Have hard time ranking albums from the same band or songs from an album. Fun video, great bands. People will always be influenced by what they are really into. I can imagine prog lovers, screaming at you: Where is Yes, King Crimson, Genesis others where is Radiohead or The Jam or Depeche Mode.
lol, yes, I am not Mr Prog and to your point our personal influence’s do become part of the lists. I did this and the American bands and I stared at the list of all the bands I wrote down for 5 days not really know where to go with it. Finally you just have to say what the heck and do it. It’s fun to do and there is no right or wrong list. Like you I also enjoy watching them and see what people come up with
Opinion of an brazilian old guy (isn't order of preference): -Swervedriver -Ladytron -The Cure -Tears for Fears -The Chameleons -Catherine Wheel -Joy Division/ New order -The Smiths -Echo & The Bunnymen -The Sisters of Mercy -Massive Attack -Doves -Led Zeppelin -Depeche Mode -Cocteau Twins -Oasis -Revolver -Adorable -Primal Scream -Deep Purple
Carlos, Brazil is a place with so much wonderful music. What a fantastic list, I love your picks and it’s newer groups if 80s and 90s is new lol. Well done sir!
Splendid list of bands Steve. I have 20 of those albums in one shape or another, and only 2 of the bands are missing entirely from my collection. Would my list have been very different? Yes and no, couple of different bands, Prefab Sprout, the Charlatans, Simple Minds and Depeche Mode would make their way into my list I'd guarantee. Maybe the Delays, China Crisis and Belle and Sebastian for a bit of "oh, surprising!" (And replacing the ones I don't have in your list) but not because I have any qualms with anything you've shown. Loved it 😊
lol Morten, this was a tough one to do, almost didn’t do it but then I said what the heck. On your picks mentioned above I don’t have any of their music either.
Very cool to see Wire on the list and Spacemen 2 and Joy Division. Oh, and The Smiths! I'd have them in the top ten, along with the Cure, the Clash, and XTC. I don't have much to complain about in this video! 🙂
Brian, I have once again had my musical sanity questioned lol. You have many that just want the older groups but I felt there are a lot of great newer groups. It really is an impossible list.
Joe, it is always interesting to hear what others really like. So many thought I was nuts with Tears For Fears and World Party. We all hear things differently don’t we. Thanks for watching and commenting
Very good! You gained a new subsriber. You have the Cure and Waterboys there - so happy. No Porcupine tree though 😞. TALK TALK is probably a top 5 Brtish Band...Give them time and many listens....
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I have no Porcupine Tree, I know them but I need to find an entry point to that band I have tried to like Talk Talk and understand them but still struggle with them. My sweet spot for music is the 80s college rock scene.
Enjoyed that list Steve-the only one on your list that I never considered for mine was Tears for Fears, as I don't have an LP of theirs-I'll have to correct that
I had quite a list I was staring at for a long time, so many bands but I wanted to mix it up some with different decades. I think I’m the only one to do Tears For Fears but they made so many catchy songs
Hi Steve - My Top 5 British Bands # 1 The Cure # 2 The Clash # 3 Joy Division / New Order # 4 The Psychedelic Furs # 5 Oasis. Bubbling 🫧 under - Radiohead , Blur , Suede , The Jam & The Comsat Angels. Lions 🦁 now Super Bowl 🏈 favorites in Vegas over The Chiefs.
My fingers are crossed on The Lions. It was a shame we lost Hutchinson for the season. I have tried to like Radiohead but just can’t not get into their music. I do love your Top 5 picks David
That’s a good list! I would have to add the furs in there myself. They’re actually touring with Jesus and the Mary Chain I saw them in October. You should check out this British band called The Flaming stars if you haven’t already. One of my top 25 British bands they’re garage/surf rocky but a little darker at times and reference noir films and themes.
Flaming Stars is new to me, I will check them out. Jesus Mary Chain and The Furs came to Denver in October also and I wanted to see them but I missed out. I love both of those groups. Fantastic that you saw them
good list the ranking can be debated, i would have put Deep Purple +The Kinks in there, but hey. it's your list.do the solo list, don't let vinyl Ritchie get the best of you! cheers.
I love Vinyl Richie! I don’t own any Deep Purple and just 2 Kinks albums. Somehow I survive Ron lol. I should get a Deep Purple Lists are very subjective and prone to our own personal tastes though I did try to push on some groups that I don’t listen to that often. They are fun to do.
The list should be 25 best bands AND musicians, as restricting the list to only bands, you're excluding a helluva lot of great music! My choices: - Bauhaus - Brian Eno - Cabaret Voltaire - Cockney Rebel - The Damned - Danielle Dax - David Bowie - Echo & The Bunnymen - Eric Burdon & The New Animals - The Fall - Gang Of Four - The Jesus & Mary Chain - John Cale - Joy Division - The Kinks - The Libertines - Linton Kwesi Johnson - Magazine - Public Image Limited - Roxy Music - Sex Pistols - Siouxsie & The Banshees - T. Rex - The Troggs - Wire
-Black Sabbath -Joy Division -Godflesh -Led Zeppelin -the Cult -the Smiths -Bauhaus -Massive Attack -Tricky -Tears for fears -Jamiroquai -Depeche Mode Edit: Ooops had to go back to add one
Interesting! For me, it’s the Beatles! But the Stones are quite impressive. Next, will you do your favorite German bands? Are you into Krautrock bands? You could do favorite International bands. Put some African bands in, Irish, Japanese, German, Jamaican, Brazilian, Peruvian bands, etc!
lol, I would have an easier time with African bands over Krautrock. Someone suggested 25 best bands from non English speaking countries , wow would that be hard to do! I got a ton of albums from groups from around the world but not sure how to do that. It would be interesting though not sure anyone would watch since most people are centered on the US and the UK
@ I think it would be original and exciting! Who knows, it might grab a lot of attention! Maybe wait to get that new psych record from Thailand! They said early November, but no word yet!
I agree on your #1 choice, the Beatles were awesome, but the Stones stayed the course and became the world's greatest rock and roll band. I like your other choices too, ELO, Waterboys (great album), Buzzcocks, Joy Division and all the rest. I thought about doing these, but I know I would have a hard time choosing the LPs. Anyway, great list Steve, you'll receive no beating from me!
Michael, I stared at my list for five days not sure what to do. It was very hard, so many great bands to choose from. I just wanted to make sure I mixed it up some
What would be interesting video is to see the vinyl channels people but together list of the greatest non-English speaking countries solo artist/bands. Not saying that the songs must be with non-English lyrics, but not from countries were the English is the main language. It would be very interesting to see such lists and would they be similar from a person to person or would there be a lot of a difference. Because it seems that in every country people listen to their native bands (and some from their neighboring countries) and then just music from UK/USA/ and some from other English speaking countries. And you mainly get to know music from other countries if the artist breaks through to the UK/USA market. So viewing lists from outside the "english" countries would possible bring new music to many viewers or the list would just be the usual suspects (the big break through artist in UK/USA) and that would also be interesting to know.
Anna, I have really considered this. I have a large selection of music from Europe, South American, Latin America and Africa. I guess I even have a nice selection of Japanese bands. This would be hard as there are so many countries to choose from. Still I will think about this. Great thought
Lots of great selections, but there are so many more. ELP, The Moody Blues, Badfinger (since you love power pop), Deep Purple, The Kinks, The Dave Clark Five, The Move, Wishbone Ash, The Zombies, and on and on.
Yeah, it was tough with just 25. I still have not listened to Wishbone Ash. I see their albums but often but I just have not picked one up. Since the flood I have not picked up a Badfinger album, I do need to at least get their greatest hits album. Some great bands David, thank you
Wow. Lots of bands from the 80s, Steve. I would probably only have Talk Talk from then. I'd skip the Beatles and Stones too, just because they have never been my go-to's, as influential as they are. My punk choices would probably be Clash, Stranglers and Damned. I'd have a few more prog, and Mr Wilson would be in there somewhere! The Groundhogs would be in my top 10 for definite, as would Mogwai, and Floyd would have to be my #1. Interesting video, Steve. I missed your top 25 US bands, somehow. I'll have to check that out. Cheers
Andy, my sweet spot is the 80s and late 70s. Wow, skipping the Beatles and Stones, very daring. I have taken a lot of heat for no Kinks lol. I tried to get into Talk Talk but have been very unsuccessful. Not surprised about Mogwai. This was a tough list but fun to do
Interesting subjective list that you made the case well for and which had only one omission which is verging on the criminal - if this wasn’t just a bit of fun which of course it is! Who? The Kinks obviously! They and The Jam and should have been included considering some of the bands who did make it (I’m thinking in particular of the Brit pop bands who were poor copies of them and The Beatles). The Kinks also should have been in because not only did they arguably produce the finest pop song of all time (Waterloo Sunset) they also invented both Heavy Rock/metal and punk three years earlier with ‘You Really Got Me. So that’s three reasons! Also Gang of Four are worth considering too while both The Clash and Beatles should have been higher and that the Stones are still going is a reason why they shouldn’t even be in the top 25 in my opinion. What an embarrassment they have become! But I really enjoyed the video!
Thank you for your thoughts I forgot about Gang of Four, a group that I do really like. I know a lot of people had Kinks in the list but I just really never got into them though I do love Really Got a me Now. Since the Flood I have not been able to get any Jam back into my collection, I use to have all of their albums but now they are hard to find and a lot more expensive. This was difficult with only 25 bands to choose but I tried to give s mix of newer and older bands as my taste really does fall into the 80s forward. Great points on my omissions
@ as I said it’s a great video because you make your case for each inclusion really well and you can’t do more than with what is a subjective list! I find it amusing how exercised people get on UA-cam when they disagree with lists like yours! It’s only a bit of fun. Hence my joke about the exclusion of The Kinks being ‘criminal’! It may be that they are too English for some palettes across the Atlantic although that could also apply to The Jam, Stranglers and Brit Pop so who knows?
The Police , Depeche Mode , Duran Duran , Tears for Fears , Genesis , Squeeze , Oasis , ABC , The Cure , The Beatles , The Sweet , 10cc , Dire Straits , The Clash , Lindisfarne , Pink Floyd .
What a great list. I have never heard of Lindisfarne, I love to see groups like that on a list. The Sweet and ABC are very cool thoughts, thank you for your list!
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147lindisfarne one of biggest selling* artists in the uk in 71-72 bob Johnson ,Dylan etc produced there major seller fog on the Tyne ,👍
Do I question your mental stability? Well, yes, but then you are in good company because I always question my own mental stability all of the time 🤪. My wife never questions it, she knows I'm a knucklehead. I would definitely put Tears for Fears on the list, probably even higher. I would probably put The Waterboys over XTC, but then, that depends on the day as does everything else for me. I thought about doing a top 25 everyday since it always changes. I think it's hilarious about that Best Metal Album award JT won. Glad you showed Ummagumma for the PF album, it just doesn't get the love. I'm one of those weirdoes that loves the studio disc on that set better than the live one. Told you I was unstable. People used to call me a '"stable genius" but that was the farmer I worked for who had me cleaning the stables all of the time. Great list!
@@TCatsDeepVinylTraxx Own Ummagumma as all the other, well not the newest ones, Pink Floyd albums. Gave it a listen or two almost 50 years ago, maybe I should put it under the needle and give it a second chance, since I'm not very stable. Love Jethro Tull, but many, many, many albums of their's would be higher on my list
@annatraustadottir4387 The first disk is all live and most PF fans like that one best and hate the 2nd disk because it's quite experimental. I love the 2nd disk because it is so different, yet quite genius. It's easier to love it I think if your mental stability is in question lol. I'm also a big Tull fan and enjoy all of their albums for different reasons, whether it's for the folk aspect or the prog aspect since I love both genres anyway.
@@TCatsDeepVinylTraxx I love the first quite many Jethro Tull but the albums then start to be more uneven and To old to Rock'n'Roll is so uninteresting. Then came the wonderful Heavy horses and Songs from the wood, love these albums. But the next three are well, so boring and after that I just haven't listened more.
lol TC, I think all collectors have a stability problem, don’t you. At least atoll can say they got a Grammy. They of course thought that was also pretty funny. Ummagumma is a great two album set, but I do love the early Floyd.
The British bands/artists i couldn't do without: 1. New Model Army (undisputed no. 1 then the next 24 in no particular order) Levellers The Clash Fields of the Nephilim Jamie T Killing Joke Black Sabbath The Pogues Rolling Stones The Kinks The Who The Beatles Marillion Kate Bush Peter Gabriel Led Zeppelin Still Little Fingers The Mission Iron Maiden Arctic Monkeys The Jam The Specials IDLES Pulp Motörhead
What a wonderful list, some of these bands I do not know. I almost popped Still Little Fingers into the list, that is a group I really like. If I do the solo artist list Bush and Gabriel would probably be on it. Thank you for taking time to share your choices!
Hi Steve. The name 'Joy Division' comes from the German concentration camps in World War II - it was what they called the brothels they had in the camps to reward the inmates' good behaviour. Great list, a few there that I considered for both of my videos. Ironically, I'd put the Stones under the Beatles because they're still going.
So long as the inmates were non-Jewish they could use the brothel (to avoid racial mixing of course) and the women forced to work in the brothels came from other concentration camps. I have never quite understood why a band would select such a thing for their name.
I had not heard that before James. Wow is that dark. I agree with gab99, why choose that but maybe it was for shock value. This was difficult list to do and you also mentioned. Incredible the music that has come out of the UK Thanks for keeping me inspired to do this
I did have Tull and really consider The Cult and Madness. Big Country was wonderful but in the states they really only had a couple of albums. Some nice picks Paul
You would enjoy Black Sabbath Master Of Reality and a good best of We Sold Our Soul For Rock And Roll. I highly recommend that you get these two albums. Master Of Reality just flows nicely and you can chill out and appreciate how well it was sequenced. There Are songs on the album that you never heard but you will be glad you found them. Steve give it a try, trust me you will not be disappointed and you might want to spark up a blunt, Lol. I know you probably don't do that but I know you like some stoner rock and this album has some. The drums in jazz style, the bass and guitar and Ozzy are top notch. One of my favorite Sabbath songs is "Into The Void". An old friend turned me on to this album and I prefer this album really.
lol Richard, I may be one of the only lover of stoner music that has never smoked a joint haha. I just love the groove the music has. I will have to try those two Sabbath albums. I use to have them on CD but I had so much music I never really listened to it
Tricky one this..i guess it all depends what angle your taste is coming from, so ultimately subjective. You picked a good overview of great bands from different genres Steve. 30+ years later and i still don't get the Stone Roses. I saw Tears For Fears on the Seeds of Love tour, it was the last time i ever went to the NEC in Birmingham ( and large concert venues period).. I think Blur were more influenced by UK 60s bands like the Kinks. Joy Division i appreciate more than enjoy. Waterboys were fantastic live, i saw them at Glastonbury in 1990. My brother loves Wire..that debut album was really interesting. The less said about Oasis the better.. Spaceman 3 is definitely a sonic experience, i probably preferred Spiritualised. Karl Wallanger ( RIP)..very clever arranger and songwriter..better than most acts from that era and highly underrated. Ah, love me some Tull..for me anything up until the early 80s is my sweet spot.. Ian Anderson is a terrific acoustic guitar player, i wish he still plays it when he performs). XTC are a great band, perfect blend of 60s psychedelia and new wave and folk..yet totally original. I'm not a metal fan, but i can't deny Black Sabbath produced some stellar work in the early 70s. ' Never Mind...is so nostalgic for me, my mate blasting it on a cassette on his dads' equipment and then the tape got chewed..the destruction seemed apt for the music... Led Zep III is my favourite because it's quite acoustic. I think Floyd up to Animals i really enjoy..Richard Wright for one of the most underrated songwriters. Beatles and Stones, i guess influence wise they have to be top 2. I'll always prefer them over the Stones. Great effort 👌.
Rob, I stared at a list of bands for 5 days and finally said just do it! It is always subjective, 100 people would have 100 different lists. We all have our perspective don’t we. I guess that is what I like about watching these , seeing what clicks with other people. We all hear things so differently I did try to add bands I don’t really listen to a lot but thought they were important like Sabbath and Priest. Fun to do but not easy
Mike, I must suffer from the same mental instability because I thought you were spot on with your US picks. I agree Stone Roses need to be shown & shown instead of Tears For Fears😂 The Priest!! I never would've picked that coming from the punk rock kid. I love how Rob Halford convinced straight white America to dress like gay leather bondage boys. He's a genius! Nice one with Wire Mike. GBV take the cake with release output for sure. Buzzcocks...yep that is a fun name to say & fun to listen to as well. What are you talking about Mike? I often hum and even whistle Spaceman 3 tunes all the time. They are the earworm band. The Tull you old proghead! Do you think the Cure will make a lot of lists now that they've released a pretty fine new album? Wow a total classic rock ending Mike. I'm glad you put someone before the someone that everyone else would put first. Always swimming upstream 👍Cheers...Mike
lol Mike, yeah, I figured everyone would put the Beatles first but they couldn’t get along and the Stones have made so many great albums. Yeah, this was tough to do but I figured we needed some newer groups Mike, mit can’t all be dinosaurs being represented. I would love to hear you humming to Spacemen 3. You just don’t see their songs in Karakoe bars. Tull is about heavy metal Mike, they got a Grammy for a reason!
lol, I missed all the good ones This was such a difficult task, worse than doing the American version but I enjoy the abuse in the comments so here it it is lol.
Sadly I have no Depeche Mode. My collection before the flood I had a lot of their albums. Since then their prices have jumped so I have not added any back in yet. I hope to have that corrected next year
@ : I have a similar situation with Judas priest. For reasons beyond my control , I’ve lost the 6 albums from Killing machine to Turbo I had from my youth. But I’m aiming to get them again , eventually.
On the punk tip let's include the Clash, Sex Pistols, Generation X, the Ruts, Cockney Rejects, GBH, Discharge, Stranglers the Damned, and Leatherface, the best punk band of the last 30 years
You are the second person to mention Leatherface. I need to check them out. I do love The Stranglers and The Damned but I only had 25 slots. Great punk bands Willie
1. Rolling Stones 2. Beatles 3. Pink Floyd 4. Black Sabbath 5. The Who 6. PJ Harvey 7. Killing Joke 8. Rudimentary Peni 9. Discharge 10. G.B.H. 11. The Cure 12. Sisters Of Mercy 13. Judas Priest 14. Iron Maiden 15. Buzzcocks 16. Massive Attack 17. Motörhead 18. Amebix 19. The Damned 20. Sex Pistols 21. Leatherface 22. Rainbow 23. The Clash 24. Queen 25. Joy Division Not the most educated answer and now when I look at my list I forgot Depeche Mode, Chumbawamba, Portishead, Crass, The Only Ones, Primal Scream, Duran Duran, Wire, Adverts and U.K. Subs. Probably many more comes to mind as soon I post this, but can't win all the time. Now I'm going to check your best US bands. Great video and list. Cheers from Finland!
lol, this is hard to do isn’t it. You are the second person to mention Leatherface. I have no idea about that group so I need to look them up. Thank you for taking the time to put down your picks, excellent stuff. I hope to visit your wonderful country some day
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Leatherface: Mush is amazing album and it just got reissued 2021 Stormy Petrel is good also. I noticed that I left Zeppelin out. Just shows that when I do these lists on the top of my head, super obvious bands gets left behind. You're always welcome to Finland. Would be an honor to have you here
Ehhhhh,,,this is why I don't do this kind of list....no Queen or Def Leppard, and some stuff I'm just not a fan of...quite a few actually...but then again, that's normal for a pop guy like me...I would have picked Herman's Hermits over a number of the ones you did include, they're important to ME, but apparently not to anyone else...oh well...whatever floats your boat, right Professor? Cheers, have a good week...
So what you’re saying TC is my list was not a surprise at all. I have no Def Leppard, just never got into them. Don’t own any Herman Hermits. The lists are fun to do TC as everyone is so different but they are hard
No Trip Hop a poor omission. In fact, unless I'm missing something nothing from the powerhouses of Bristol or Sheffield. No 2 Tone. No female bands. Nice list, but too one-dimensional, too cliched.
You are one of those Johnny Marr solo albums are better than Morrissey solo albums. Give me a break. The Cure are great snd they looked so cool in the 80s. Now he looks downright frightening. I’m not sure many bands started because of the Sex Pistols. Tons started after the Ramones or Black Flag played your town.
The UK a lot of bands started after seeing the Sex Pistols but probably not near as many as The Ramones. Yes I’m a Marr fan Richie. Tone Scott sent me some Marr albums and I really got to appreciate his guitar playing. This was tough to do and everyone has a different list. Not sure if I will do the solo artist list though it is intriguing Richie
All the things you said that made me wince, and there were many lol, is negated by the OG disintegration album. Side note shouldn’t it be called OP instead. I guess OG just comes out from all the 90’s references?
Yeah I just picked that Cure album up. I had an original that I bought when it came out but I got washed away in the flood. A couple of months ago I walk into a little record store and bam, there it was, a lot more then I paid for it haha. Still I love that album so I grabbed it Sorry for making you wince so much ! Thanks for watching
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Nothing but a flesh wound. Lists are like that no one will 100% agree with them. Great vid as usual. Very entertaining.
Creation, Yardbirds, Pretty things, van der graaf, mike Oldfield, early Genesis, New Order, Stranglers, S Carlson poolboy constellation, your list is very pedestrian
lol Peter, I would need to have some of those albums! I do love The Stranglers and I just got my first New Order album. My list is from a yankee and I think is the best ever made!
This is an impossible task. Britain has produced more great bands than anyone on Earth. You might as well try to pick your favorite molecules in the universe. I'd say per population size, Britain is number one in producing great music, followed by Canada (Considering the population of Canada, it has far outproduced the U.S. in great musical artists - if only their television were better!). Bands that would be in my top 25 or possible 100? Kinks (probably my number one), The Jam, Magazine, The Stranglers, Ultravox, Eurythmics, Deep Purple, Yes, Japan, Psychedelic Furs, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Pretenders, Genesis, Supertramp, 10CC, Queen, Status Quo, The Animals, The Hollies, - the list just goes on and on and on. As Mr. Griffiths states, "Joy Division" is a very, very dark moniker - The Dead Kennedys is relatively cheerful in comparison.
Darrell, I was unaware of Joy Divisions name, holy crap was that dark, wow. I guess that explained the music. These lists are hard to do and yes the UK has a crazy amount of bands and even more genres. They don’t seem to be able to settle on a specific type of music over there. Now as far as Canadian TV, if you have not been able to change it then I don’t know who really can.
Nice list. Mine would skew more prog, hard rock and metal. I have given up on the Huskers this season. I haven't watched the last 3 games and probably won't watch again this year. They aren't worth it.
Heart break after heartbreak. Last two games are not in our favor. WI played Oregon hard. I wonder how many people will leave the team to try to find a winning team ? Very frustrating. At least my Lions look good
If I do solo artists Joe Jackson would definitely be on my list. Yes he was a band but him and people like Elvis Costello were being tossed into that category. There were just too many great bands to choose from
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 it was a good list and really the only ommission that jumped out at me was that one. If I could recommend one album to check out (again?) it's Muswell Hillbillies. I like the 1998 remaster on Konk. Great job though 👍
Just a top twenty of bands that didn't make your list. The Kinks Madness The Specials Radiohead Small Faces Big Country Talk Talk Slade The Human League Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark Scritti Politti Roxy Music Traffic Genesis Yazoo China Crisis The Icicle Works Badfinger Manic Street Preachers Psychedelic Furs
Personally, along with Radiohead, I would include The Stone Roses (they released 2 albums, the same as Joy Division) Queen (even though I'm not a fan particularly) Arctic Monkeys and New Order over Joy Division, even though I love both. Perhaps Massive Attack 🤔 Having said that, I did enjoy watching your video
What planet are you on? You failed to mention the jam, a band that defined its generation & was a catalyst for bands to come but you give house room to tears for fears & the waterboys (a band that made zero impact during their original outing) & joy division!! A drab monotone band with one real album. C'mon, you probably got about 5 right. To pick the best they have to have left a lasting legacy.
Well it was a list alright. It certainly isn’t I would suggest close to the best 25 from the Uk. Great to see Joy Division, XTC featured but I can’t fathom that the likes of Blur, Oasis, ELO feature when the Kinks, Supertramp, Genesis (proper Ie. 70s!), Crimson etc to name but a few, don’t! The Stones were (are?) a great rock and roll/blues band but were hardly innovative in the same way as the Beatles.
I really tried to blend newer and older bands together. There is just too many great bands in the UK. Incredible music is still being made so it is a balancing act It took 5 days staring at a list to pick 25. Totally forgot about Supertramp. These are fun to do, no right or wrong lists as they are always a matter of opinion. They are fun to watch though. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment
Talk about a prolific band, The Fall has put out so many albums. I have a few from them but by no means an expert on their music. They are a great band, good call
Paul, this is so difficult to do but fun. No right or wrong list I tried to do some not so typical bands that I really felt were quite influential. Just too many bands to choose from!
Yes I did, they showed us how to wear leather and studs, pretty influential. Also one of the best driving songs for road rage is Screaming For Vengeance lol
Well thank you for at least trying to watch this ranking. It is a subjective list, no two people will ever have the same list especially when it comes to the UK.
I think one of the Waterboys created the band World Party and even named that band after a Waterboys song…..I think I read that somewhere. Maybe you shared that. I may need some World Party next? See how we learn from you? Thanks Steve. God Bless You and Your Family
You are right, I have talked about Wallingers split from the Waterboys. Mike Scott and Karl Wallinger were both excellent song writers but they each had their own direction they wanted to go. If you want to try a World Party a highly recommend Goodbye Jumbo. I find it to be close to perfect
Tears for Fears are not a band & really contribute very little, ELO should be far higher up the list, Jesus and Mary Chain are far too indie and are not large enough for the list same as Waterboys, one famous album does not make an influence. Spaceman 3 are cool and power indie but ask 100 ppl who is Spaceman 3 and i bet one if lucky would know them. Its cheap to buy original Cure albums if you started buying and following them in the 80's. From #11 up I can agree with you at least with little complaining lol😊. Oh where is Joe Jackson, Duran Duran, The Jam & Style Council, New Order, Bauhous, Magazine , Genesis.....you filled your list with so so groups but left out these heavy hitters. ???
Ask 100 people and you get a 100 different list which is why these are so fun to do. This is a tough list to do, so many great bands out of the UK. I tried to get a mix of newer and older bands. Thank you for taking time to watch and comment.
Gives you a copy of the Village Green Preservation Society. You forgot this fella.
Magazine, The Fall, Doctors of Madness, Nightingales, Roxy Music, Crass, Band of Holy Joy, Portishead, Pop Group etc etc
with you on Magazine and the Fall my friend
Hi Steve, great video and cool list. Nice to see some different bands mentioned. Have a good weekend.
Great list, you almost never see bands like Spacemen 3 and Jesus and Mary Chain getting mentioned in these kind of lists
I just saw their show yesterday here in Italy🤘
Great video btw, awesome mix between classic and newer rock & punk
Thanks for dropping by Todd. This was extremely hard to do, so many great bands from that small island.
Hello Mr.
Really great selections, I cannot argue with any of your picks.
Richard, you’re one of the few lol. It took me 5 dares staring at my list I almost did not do it
Love your list!
Like you I also enjoy watching them and see what people come up with
Love your choices Steve. The UK gave so many great bands and music to enjoy 🎉
Thanks Greg, I got a ton of comments where people don’t agree with the list lol. That is what makes it fun

There were many familiar faces in that list and some strangers. I loved the video. Well done.
Thanks Tony, I’m always trying to give you something different so you question my judgement lol
@ i think you have fantastic taste in music.
Hi steve great 25 and some of my favourites including world party, xtc , tears for fears and electric light orchestra. Take care joe
Dare, Asia, Uriah Heep, 10cc, Dire Straits, Queen, Supertramp, Strangeways, Sad Cafe, Whitesnake, Tears For Fears, Lonestar, Magnum, UFO.
Darren, that is a wonderful eclectic list of bands. Sad Cafe, cool choice I do not know Magnum or Dare
Hey Steve. Great list! Well done. Cheers
Tough to do Bobby. You need to give the UK a shot also. This was tougher than the US I think.
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Yeah. It seems tougher. I think that's why I haven't taken the plunge yet. Cheers

I just wanted to make sure I mixed it up some
🪄✨️ The Cure.✨️ BEST ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD !!!!!!

Now I tried to like Talk Talk, I still find that confusing lol. I do not know House of Love, something I need to check out. Great bands
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 don't like talk talk? I'm intrigued...
This was a tough list but fun to do
Nice t-shirt Steve
Take care Brian ☮️
Brian, I thought of you when I pulled that out!
Might be the only one of these lists that included Blur.
I noticed that Brandon, I think Blur has produced some great albums, they were one of my favorite groups of the 90s. Very hard list to make.
WIRE.......who????
SPACEMEN 3.......who????
No Queen or Dire Straits????
The Police , Depeche Mode , Duran Duran , Tears for Fears , Genesis , Squeeze , Oasis , ABC , The Cure , The Beatles , The Sweet , 10cc , Dire Straits , The Clash , Lindisfarne , Pink Floyd .
What a great list. I have never heard of Lindisfarne, I love to see groups like that on a list. The Sweet and ABC are very cool thoughts, thank you for your list!

That little island is a juggernaut of exceptional music!
It sure was, something unexpected. I have found a lot of high priced shops, this was more reasonable
I totally agree with atoomOld To Rock n Roll, that just was not a good album but then they got things right for awhile until A
lol TC, I think all collectors have a stability problem, don’t you. At least atoll can say they got a Grammy. They of course thought that was also pretty funny. Ummagumma is a great two album set, but I do love the early Floyd.
The British bands/artists i couldn't do without:
1. New Model Army (undisputed no. 1 then the next 24 in no particular order)
Levellers
The Clash
Fields of the Nephilim
Jamie T
Killing Joke
Black Sabbath
The Pogues
Rolling Stones
The Kinks
The Who
The Beatles
Marillion
Kate Bush
Peter Gabriel
Led Zeppelin
Still Little Fingers
The Mission
Iron Maiden
Arctic Monkeys
The Jam
The Specials
IDLES
Pulp
Motörhead
Incredible the music that has come out of the UK Thanks for keeping me inspired to do this
@@gab99 irony?
The Cult, Hawkwind, Spear of Destiny. Big country Madness, Jethro Tull Pendragon, Genesis. Siouxsie and the banshees.
I did have Tull and really consider The Cult and Madness. Big Country was wonderful but in the states they really only had a couple of albums. Some nice picks Paul
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Great video.
I use to have them on CD but I had so much music I never really listened to it
THE CURE KING 👑 OF ROCK
Violette, I going to go out on a limb and say The Cure is your favorite band! Did you like their new album?
Uau, belos discos!! Abraços de São Paulo - Brasil!!
Thank you and thank you for watching and commenting. I LOVE Brazilian Music!
Tears for fears sowing in the seeds of love is so Beatlesque
Richard it sure is along with XTC Oranges and Lemons. Both of those albums have a lot of Joy in them.
Wow .. the jam are considered among the greatest and they didn’t make the list
Sadly after The Flood I have not found any decent Jam albums in good shape. I use to have all their albums
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 😂Yes true I forgot the Tull won a metal Grammy. It's always been an awards show that has it's finger on the pulse.
Hey Steve this is impossible but you gave it a go. You missed out most of the best bands then included the Beatles 😀

lol, I missed all the good ones This was such a difficult task, worse than doing the American version but I enjoy the abuse in the comments so here it it is lol.

#27 : Depeche mode.
Sadly I have no Depeche Mode. My collection before the flood I had a lot of their albums. Since then their prices have jumped so I have not added any back in yet. I hope to have that corrected next year

Would be an honor to have you here
1. The CURE
2. The Beatles
3. Depech Mode
4. Pink Floyd
Sorry, you forgot some of the best ones: Bowie, The Fall, The Sound, Chameleons, The The, The Band of Holy Joy, Bauhaus....
Again not a hugely surprising list Steve 😂.
Kendall, I have become just to predictable
I see you only did one album from all groups I would have mentioned Joy Division with the syn waves in the cover
My tastes run all over the place, could easily put 100 bands on this list
At least my Lions look good
JOE JACKSON, THE BABYS, THE ALARM, THE KOOKS. 🙏🧘🌎🌏🌍🌧️🌦️🌥️🌤️☀️
If I do solo artists Joe Jackson would definitely be on my list. Yes he was a band but him and people like Elvis Costello were being tossed into that category. There were just too many great bands to choose from
Wow, the Kinks are nowhere to be found here
A lot of people have mentioned. Could only do 25 and I wanted to show some of the newer bands. Definitely a band that made some great albums
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 it was a good list and really the only ommission that jumped out at me was that one. If I could recommend one album to check out (again?) it's Muswell Hillbillies. I like the 1998 remaster on Konk. Great job though 👍
Good list, my all time fav. UK band is though Killing Joke.
I do like Killing Joke but didn’t think about them. Awesome band!!!
Just a top twenty of bands that didn't make your list.
The Kinks
Madness
The Specials
Radiohead
Small Faces
Big Country
Talk Talk
Slade
The Human League
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
Scritti Politti
Roxy Music
Traffic
Genesis
Yazoo
China Crisis
The Icicle Works
Badfinger
Manic Street Preachers
Psychedelic Furs
Blur were more influenced by the kinks and xtc than the roses.
I did omit the Kinks, could only pick 25, but good points on their influence Dean. UK is so loaded with great bands which was almost overwhelming
5 to 1 yes, 10-25 ?? Only kidding LOL!
lol James, at least I got 5 to 1 right! I went old school. Too many bands to choose from. This was hard
Steve, I know nothing about UK. Top 5 is spot on. Peace. ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
Zonkman, so much for you being an Anglophile !
Look, I agree with quite a bit of this, but how you can include World Party, TFF, or XTC and not have Radiohead is flipping ridiculous
Personally, along with Radiohead, I would include The Stone Roses (they released 2 albums, the same as Joy Division) Queen (even though I'm not a fan particularly) Arctic Monkeys and New Order over Joy Division, even though I love both.
Perhaps Massive Attack 🤔
Having said that, I did enjoy watching your video
Where are The Moody Blues?
There is no joy behind the name Joy Division, very depressive name when you look into it.
Anna, it sure is, I just learned about it. That is very very dark. It does fit the music
I thought The Fall were going to be #1.
Talk about a prolific band, The Fall has put out so many albums. I have a few from them but by no means an expert on their music. They are a great band, good call
The Stones are still going but they are dinosaurs and kind of suck.
I will say Richie I have not bought any of their music since the early 90s. Still they survive and keep selling out stadiums
Impossible. Theres great unheard lesser known bands that are better than the big names.
Paul, this is so difficult to do but fun. No right or wrong list I tried to do some not so typical bands that I really felt were quite influential. Just too many bands to choose from!
Did he just say Judas Priest 😂
Yes I did, they showed us how to wear leather and studs, pretty influential. Also one of the best driving songs for road rage is Screaming For Vengeance lol
Good call on the Mary chain, still the coolest 😎
shame......Stones above Beatles...no sorry. Oasis is top 10 everyday
I'm from Germany and I miss The Kinks, T.Rex, Bauhaus, old Genesis and other Prog Bands like Yes, Moody Blues etc.
Andrea, thank you for watching. Bauhaus would have been good. Just too many bands to choose from and it was very difficult to do
Minute 1.50 ... I'm out... please
Well thank you for at least trying to watch this ranking. It is a subjective list, no two people will ever have the same list especially when it comes to the UK.
Bad Nerves are my favourite current band
I have heard of the Bad Nerves but I had no idea that was the picture I used lol. I need to check out their music
Top 5 __
Beatles
Zeppelin
The Who
The Stones
The Kinks
___________
I almost had your whole top 5 Gene
I think one of the Waterboys created the band World Party and even named that band after a Waterboys song…..I think I read that somewhere. Maybe you shared that. I may need some World Party next? See how we learn from you? Thanks Steve. God Bless You and Your Family
Karl Wallinger left Waterboys and formed World Party. He died this year
Mike Scott wrote & recorded the song World Party several years after Karl Wallinger departed. It appears on Fisherman's Blues.
