The only challenge I've completed is Hopless Rescue, which was moderately fun but was way too easy, I think I completed it in about 3 and a half days? I haven't played any of the other challenges but sounds like I should try the better ones for sure 👀
Whiteout was especially annoying for me. I did it right after the global loot refresh back in the first couple far territories drops and I'm convinced that it caused bugs with the challenges because I could not find a rifle _anywhere._ I searched all of CH, all of DP, all of ML, all of FM and all of PV and couldn't find a rifle anywhere. Every single nook and cranny of those regions searched and not one rifle. I was only able to finally find a rifle after going to TWM summit and I'm convinced the only reason there was actually a rifle there is because that is the only rifle in the entire game that I am aware of that spawns inside a container instead of out in the open. By the time I got back to Quonset with the rifle, I had less than a day before the great storm.
I had the same issue but before the loot refresh. I literally gave up and restarted the challenge until I got the rifle to spawn in CH. The first thing I did was check all the places the rifle could spawn and I restarted right away if it didnt spawn there
Had a similar experience that allowed me to beat Hopeless Rescue without ever going to Timberwolf Mountain. Flare gun spawned on a corpse in some other region.
Honestly Great video! Really appreciate how honest you were about the challenges, and really like the rankings of fun, as well as your opinion of their difficulties. My favorite are: (top three, from least fav to most) Whiteout: It was my first challenge, so slight bias, but I love the concept of needing to prepare for a coming storm. It really helped me to learn Costal Highway, as well as actually help teach me what items are worth stockpiling. My big complaint is not seeing the actual storm at the end, like, that's the whole point right? Second Faves are the Hunted Challenges. I absolutely love the idea of contently being hunted by a steroid bear, and the only hope being in a cabin that you may or may not know the location of. Part 2 is especially fun, with the hole "the tables have turned" aspect. My only complaint is a lack of part 3. My favorite, is of course, Escape the Darkwalker. It's such a change of pace, whilst still having great atmosphere, and insane test of your knowledge of the game. I still occasionally play it, because of how different and fun it is. I even created a harder challenge within it, that created the most stress I have ever experienced within the game. A challenge I offer to you. It is quite simple (spoilers ahead for those who haven't completed it) Complete "Escape the Darkwalker" without using the "Lure," "Ward," or "Dispel fog" runes. You can still use the natural ward of the green campfires, and the "Banish" rune to win, but that's it. Meaning the only thing keeping the Darkwalker from catching you, is your skill, and two feet. Nothing is stopping the Darkwalker from Be-Lining straight too you, at all times. You must be efficient with your time, whilst also managing your cores well, as using too much exhaustion, or getting hypothermia, is basically an immediate game over. It is possible, I've done it, and another person on Hinterland's Forums confirmed a completion as well. But it is honestly one of the most stressful things I have ever done in the game. Great video though! Editing was fantastic, audio was great, and I loved the ratings, and how you compared the game's to yours. I rate this video a 6/6, and you've earned my sub!
I think the global loot refresh jacked up some of the challenges. Saw someone talking about taking entirely too long to find a rifle in Whiteout. I personally got the Darkwalker badge for free at some point, and I was able to beat Hopeless Rescue without having to go to Timberwolf Mountain because a flare gun spawned on a random corpse in some other region.
The rating is exact the same for me. The only thing i disagree is the difficulty for the Darkwalker. I love the darkwalker challenge, its my most played challenge but i would rate it like a 4 or maximum 5 difficulty. As a new Player i would avoid that challenge completly but as a player with more experience i had more problems with "as the dead sleep". The loot what you get with the Darkwalker challenge is like voyager + you have like a 24 ingame hours save time before animals spawn. No protection at all in the interloper challenge. On top of that you have a full map with the darkwalker and even can see in which direction you are looking. Even the weather is more in your favorit. You only have some Wind but never a storm in that challenge. The only thing is to find out how you deal with the darkwalker itself. But as you said. The most fun and best challenge in the game by far i love it.
I did the darkwalker during the Halloween release. It took me two attempts and after my death in the first my hands where shaking for hours! I think they made it harder when they made it a permanent challenge, but i don't know. I did try the hunted but didn't even make it out of pv.
I come to "Survival-Mode" with Nomad, i waste a lot of time with this challenge. I farmed most of the feats & achievement in this mode. ;-) I complete it on Day 240....but yes for advanced players this challenge is boring, for newbies its great.
Hopeless Rescue is much harder than Nomad/archivist for a new player because of the time limit, the first time I did it (after the 2 mentioned), it took me 5 days to reach the summit using maps, and I watched a playthrough to learn how to go to DP quickly, I didn't even know you could go back the mountain on foot, I was about to use the rope back... Meanwhile the darkwalker was easier than expected because you have the map, you have all the items needed in your way at the campfire, much easier than as the dead sleeps which is NOGOA difficulty...
Something that came to mind was the difficulty for Hopeless Rescue with the new update. Do you know if they are adding the new spawn locations to the challenges? Because then Timberwolves would indeed be in Timberwolf Mountain for that challenge. Something to think about
@@Crank59 I don’t think the refresh applies to challenges. I tried locating Timberwolves in both Ash Canyon and Timberwolf Mountain during the Darkwalker run and not a single one to be found.
@@SurvivorMike That might be due to the fact that wildlife is heavily scaled back in ETDW and not necessarily because the changes don't effect the challenges. I can say with like 90% certainty that when I did whiteout shortly after the item refresh, it definitely did effect the spawn of rifles, whether intentionally or otherwise.
nomad and hopeless rescue are the first challenges I played and for me they were fun because I learned about locations on the map and soak in the atmosphere. the "do nothing" vibe actually resonated with the apocalyptic background. whiteout just seemed tedious and repetitive. hunted felt strangely disjointed as the bear appearances seemed too scripted. darkwalker almost seems like a different game alltogether with all the supernaturalism involved. Archivist and as the dead sleep seem very similar, in both cases the payoff is insufficient for me - the stories in the buffer memories are not strong enough and the realism of the situation is also stretched too far for me.
I don't think ruined is really the right word, the priorities changed but it's not necessarily worse, just not really what a lot of people were hoping for
@@francesco5581 i also dislike the direction the game is going in but at the end of the day the game we fell in love with is still there, just because new content is underwhelming and unwanted doesn't undermine the core game already present
I do feel like Nomad and Archivist CAN be fine with some tweaking. They are definitely 2 / 6 when it comes to difficulty. I've played these + Whiteout soon after i started playing, so they felt okay. But it's not fun to play these now Just some ideas: pairing Nomad with Cartographer - basically, Cartographer Light. Visit x locations in x days and map them. Don't need to be the whole world. For extra fun - 20 randomly chosen locations (say 5 per region). Edit: but if your primary metric is "stress level" - maybe not xD
Basing the fun rating on stress levels sounds hilariously masochistic, but is absolutely the way this game goes 😭

My favourite is the old bear because it's a lot of fun just to do a normal survival run with it
the game needs more challenges. There is infinite possibilities but we have only 7 challenges.
You do know you can do a custom game don't you? As the dead sleep started off as a custom game setting.
Good honest ratings.

Fun = Stress
My favorite to watch was The Dark Walker. I was stressed-out right along side you the whole way!
TLD bringing together SoulsLike masocist and StardewValley chillouts is an attest to what a good game it is! ❤

Escape the Darkwalker is my favorite too, even though I haven't been able to beat it lol
There is no way bro made a video under an hour long, literally impossible
Exactly how I rank them too!
what happened to lighthouse,
Bruh my first experience on this game was darkwalker and atds because they seemed cool😂😂 struggled a lot😅
Im scared to do the bear one. Wish they would let us just pick which to do
Anyone got timestamps?
I'm very pessimistic about ever getting dark walker part 2 or another Halloween game mode again

The game that could have been fantastic but was partially ruined by developers
How so ?
@@supermanuella92 they wasted resources into silly stories instead focusing on "the quiet apocalypse"
