Darby progressing with retrieve delivery

I’m working on a few things currently with Darby. I would like for her to Hup (spaniel language for sit) before I toss the bumper. I would also like for her to hold the bumper until I take it from her.
She is starting to offer a Hup before I toss a bumper. If she doesn’t, I wait until she hups and I then toss the bumper immediately. As she gets better, I will add duration before I toss the bumper. I’m also working on delivering up hand. Sometimes I need to be quick to catch it and sometimes I need to be patient to let her pick it up on her own. Once she is doing the action nicely, I will then start overlaying commands to teach a word association with the action. I find it’s easier for the dog to connect actions with words than in reverse.
