"Grease" is a movie, that will always be fun to watch, know matter how old you are, because its about singing, dancing, and music and of course "Olivia Newton John". Grease is just a cool 😎 movie. 🎥 👍
I never understood grease and then I directed it it broke all box office records extended by two weeks and I got it people know those characters and they love those characters .
Funny how even the "experts" tend to forget that there were indeed successful musical films after The Sound of Music. Cabaret, Funny Lady and A Star is Born were all huge hits prior to Saturday Night fever and Grease.
I wish Randal Kleiser knew he's not the only one who thinks that way about the "Grease is the Word" opening song. It's always felt so off for me. The rest of the movie is so firmly in the 50s vibe, then you've got this EXTREMELY 70s sounding song. And the lyrics don't match the vibe of the film at all. Even as a kid, before I could put my finger on it (and before I knew any of the reasons) that song just seemed ill-fitting for me. Now as an adult who knows the story behind the Bee-Gees doing it, I understand why. As a standalone song, it's good and it's really catchy. But no Randal you are not alone in disliking this song for the movie. I'd love to hear the original "Grease" demo that the animation was set to.
She wouldn't have had the chemistry with John that Olivia had, John was the one that chose Olivia for the part above everyone, and their closeness lasted 44 years until her passing.
saw it over a dozen times in 78... loved it.

Funny Lady wasn't a huge success. Funny Girl was.
They were successful but not as successful. More flopped than succeed
