I grew up loving Grease 2 more than Grease! I was born in 1977 and we watched this on VHS at least weekly. I have come to love the original but Grease 2 holds a special place in my heart!
✋🏼I am one of the people who absolutely love Grease 2 more than the first Grease movie. I know all the songs and enjoy them for what they are. I grew up with this movie and always felt it was unfair that it received so much hate.
I'm one of those people too! Grease 2 is infinitely more enjoyable than Grease when you watch it as a tongue in cheek comedy with songs made of nothing but sexual innuendos instead of a romantic high school musical.
Add me to the list also. First had a better story but I feel overall 2 had the better score. Michael was very likeable character and the T-Birds wanting to sing adds a little dimension to the "greaser punkness"
It's good to know there are others out there like me. The first one has a reputation that I have never understood. I will not besmirch the name of the late Olivia Newton-John but the, thankfully now finished, attempts at getting stardom for John Travolta began in earnest with that first film.
With a lot of these films that are often panned, I think it's important to have experienced them at the right time in your life. Critics hated films like Grease 2 and Xanadu but those of us who were kids when those films came out could more easily suspend disbelief and go along for the ride. Those two films remain two of the most influential and beloved to me 40+ years later since I was lucky enough to see them as an uncynical kid.
My favorite is Girl For All Seasons. Beautiful Harmonies with Pfeiffer on lead vocal. But the way to hear it best is on the soundtrack album. I hate the way it was "interrupted" by the "Turn Back The Hands Of Time" song, in the movie.
I loved both Grease and Grease 2. I think that it made more sense to have all new characters because making it about the original ones that already graduated to me wouldn't have worked. I liked the new characters and the new songs so I agree you have to look at it as an independent film to really appreciate it.
I have always loved Grease 2 more than the original. The music (I LOVE “A Girl For All Seasons” and “Reproduction” 🤣), the wardrobe, the choreography, it’s vibrancy and comedy. And btw, I wonder if he pushed for the “Son of Grease” title because it would appear to be all about him 🤦🏽♀️
Grease 2 is not better then the original you're all full of crap. It's not nearly or will ever be as good as the original. People who say this have rocks in their heads and have a severe mental problem. I'm not saying I disliked grease too I'm just saying it's not better than the original.
I saw grease 2 first because I was too "young" to see Grease since it had swearing or something. I think if you were old enough when the original came out, you probably didn't like the sequel, but if you didn't see the original in the theater and were never caught up in that whole phenomenon, then the sequel worked. I loved it.
I'm one of the people who likes this more than the original. I used to rent it from the video store over and over, and I still remember the lyrics to all the songs. And I'm not ashamed!
My friends and I loved this movie and sang all its songs... Much apart of my childhood, still sing the song to this day. Who doesn't was a "cool rider" like Michael? The songs are fun... Reproduction was fun. The songs are easy to sing.
I always wondered where Frenchie disappeared to after talking to Michael in the chemistry lab. The script was written on the fly, and it clearly shows at points.
I’ve seen this movie countless times and literally never gave it a thought that she disappeared, it was obviously a seamless transition to focusing on the new main characters in my brain 😂
When HBO had this and "Pirate Movie" in rotation, I was glued to the set for every showing. I was a junior in high school when Grease came out and have never seen more than clips of "Summer Lovin", "Greased Lightning" and "You're the One That I Want".
You do have to watch this as a stand alone movie. It’s not horrible. Lots of talent! Other footnotes… Matt Lattanzi(Olivia Newton-John 1st hubby) stars in the movie. Olivia even threw a party for the cast after filming. Twins Liz and Jean Segal (sisters of actress Katey Segal) also star in the movie. They went on to have a short lived TV series titled Double Trouble.
Also, Dolores Rebchuck was played by a young Pamela Adlon, who went on to voice Bobby Hill on King of the Hill, and also play Louis CK's sometime girlfriend on 'Louie'.
the Twins Liz and Jean Segal (sisters of actress Katey Segal of Married with Children fame ) the strange thing is I don't recall Katey ever mentioning her sisters in a interview.....I could be wrong but I don't recall it.....are they not speaking to each other?
It's too bad people couldn't look past the first movie. The sequel is SO much fun. Great music score, quirky and endearing characters, good cinematography, great choreography and actors that I'd want to see again and again. And most of the cast seemed to have great chemistry between each other, not just the two leads. Danny and Sandy had good chemistry but Michael and Stephanie's romance was more haunting and beautiful. It was something that sticks with a person.
If you like this, you should try and find the Paramount series "Rise of the Pink Ladies." It does an amazing job of tying both movies together while still telling it's own story.
Stephanie was the complete reverse of Sandy. Instead of starting out the film as sweet and wholesome then changing to leather clad greaser girl, she starts the movie as a greaser, then gradually turns into "good girl" Also, her voice seems to change. At first she seems to speak in tough pseudo-New York accent. As she gradually turns softer it sounds more like Michelle Pfeiffer's real voice.
I saw Grease 2 before the original Grease. I like it a lot, especially with Michelle Pfieffer, and I thought Max Caulfield was dead gorgeous. However, when I finally saw Grease with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, it blew my mind as their songs were already popular on the radio. However, Grease 2 still affects me as Michelle Pfieffer just exploded onto the big screen after many iconic roles, such as the slinky leather-clad Catwoman in Batman Returns.
Being a kid in Oklahoma’s tornado alley. Bomb shelters would of been nice. Our storm cellar sucked. Got stuck inside twice inside it, during 2 separate tornados.
This movie is such a pleasure of mine, no guilt whatsoever!😁 Yes, it's basically the exact same concept as the first with the genders reversed, but Stephanie is more upfront and proactive than Sandy was, the songs are catchier, and Michael is more likable than Danny, in that he's kind to Stephanie, and doesn't act like a tool towards her.
@@BGRAC1984 That's easy I don't like John Travolta at all. Even movies like pulp fiction that I like he gets on my nerves in. There's something completely plastic and fake about him and it comes through in every part he has ever acted in.
That’s because Stephanie is supposed to be like the Danny character whereas Michael is the Sandy Character. So it wouldn’t make sense to compare Michael to Danny
Here is the fun thing. I did see Grease 2 BEFORE I even knew there was a Grease movie and it became one of my favorite musicals of all time. When I saw Grease a few years later because I knew Olivia was in it who I first saw in Xanadu (yes, I know quite anti chronological and always watching the "flops" ;)) I did like it and enjoyed it mostly because of John and Olivia but it never gave me the feeling Grease 2 gave me. When I saw Grease 2 I did not know that it has been flopped - so that came as a surprise to me. So if you never saw Grease the experience with Grease 2 might be completely different ... it was for me.
@@Diggerdog2nd it was cool the first day back at school (8th grade) and in one of my classes some of the kids started singing I gotta go back, back to school again… i was like hey they saw it too
@@devinhyde1139 the soundtrack only peaked at #71 on the Billboard charts, it was a big commercial flop like the film itself. The first Grease was #1 for weeks at the box office and the album charts, biggest selling soundtrack of all time at that time and the sequel flops at the box office and the follow up soundtrack peaks at.... #71. Ouch
It may not be as good as the first one, few sequels are, but I enjoyed this movie every bit as much as the first one. It was kind of a good thing it didn't make alot money at the box office; because that just meant it made its way to HBO that much quicker. HBO would run about 30 times a month and me and my cousins tried to watch every airing.
Ha, I was surprised a few weeks ago to hear the "back to school" song while shopping at Walmart during "back to school." 😆 I think a lot of kids that grew up seeing this on cable have a soft spot for it, especially the songs.
Even though I like the original in its own way, I have to say I am one of those people who likes the sequel more. The love story is SO much better and way less toxic. In Grease, Danny is constantly screwing things up with Sandy and acting like a jerk, despite being so desperate to get her back. It gets really tiring to watch. He doesn't respect her boundaries or once stand up to his friends, and constantly humiliates her by having to be cool all the time. Michael, by contrast, doesn't so much as look at another girl besides Stephanie and literally risks life and limb to impress her. He also takes the time to tutor her, and he's not one of those "nice guys" who whines that she won't go out with him. He figures his only chance is to create a cool biker alter ego, and in the end she confesses she had fallen for regular Michael at the same time. It's the healthy love story we needed! Also, hot take; John Travolta cannot sing despite being a great actor and dancer, and Michael's song "Charades" is twenty times better than "Sandy". It's such a shame Caulfield's career suffered so much after playing probably the most chivalrous dreamboat of a character in a musical I've ever seen. 😩💔
Michelle Pfeiffer went on to have a successful career which leads me to believe that everything Michelle said about him in interviews (he was self-serving, pompous and insufferable) was probably true...
agree on all points. Plus Michael was smart, sensitive, had an inner beauty and was super hot on the outside too! Danny was just a good looking, and kind of funny greaser. Fun to watch, but Michael has me captivated EVERY TIME!
@@lauras3612 So true!! When Stephanie says to him during tutoring, "You must think I am some kinda dummy", and he looks her in the eyes, dead serious and says "Actually, I think you're kind of terrific", it's SO HOT. Not an ounce of irony or cheese. Give me one example of something Danny said that had that kind of impact and meaning; the guy who literally rolls his eyes when Sandy says she knows now that he respects her. I'll wait! 😐
@@RoseTintMyWorld-cr5zo I liked how Danny's eyes popped out when he saw her for the 1st time at the school, and when he said he lettered in track because he'd do anything to get her. But it was never as passionate. The character of Michael is just super sweet, patient and considerate. And SO much hotter than Danny. His eyes still pop today and he's like 60 or something. Wowza!
I wouldn't say that Hollywood thought Maxwell Caulfield was a pompous actor in the early 80's to mid 90's, but I will say his casting as washed-up diva "Rex Manning" in Empire Records was.....inspired.
Never saw Dynasty, or this. The only two things he’s been in that I have watched were Empire Records and Dance With Death, and he’s the villain in both. Tough luck, guy.
I fell in love with Michael when I first saw this. I remember watching Dynasty the reunion in the early 90s and thinking Maxwell Caulfied was still lovely. I remember his characters in Holby City and Emmerdale got killed off and more recently he guested on My 80's on Sounds of the 80s on BBC Radio 2. Interesting fact his sister in law is Hayley Mills
"Cooool rider, a coooool rider. If he's cool enough, he can burn me through and through, ohhhh" 🤣 Effing hell, my bestie and I LOVED this movie as kids (we were 80s babies). We actually fought over who got to be Stephanie (Michelle Pfeiffer's character) when we'd pretend to act out the movie... her name is Stephanie and she's blonde thus she always won. I can't believe I'm sharing this! I should be taking this to the grave truly... Lord
I'm one of those people that prefer Grease 2 over the orginal. I was actually introduced to this movie first as a kid and loved it. It wasn't till I was a teen that I finally saw the orginal. Grease 2 sits as one of my all time favorites.
Olivia Newton-John is English. She moved to Australia with her family. So Michael being English is absolutely okay. Jennifer Beals made the best decision.
@@bonghunezhou5051 Actually, she was born in Cambridge, England and lived there until she was 5. Her family then migrated to Melbourne, Australia. Aside from this information being on Wikipedia, Olivia has spoken about it in interviews.
I hated Grease 2 so much when it first came out that I walked out of the theater halfway through. Flash forward a year later, I'm stuck at a hotel for a week with Grease 2 on HBO in heavy rotation (back then, kids, we only had ONE HBO channel, and it was only on for limited hours per day, lol). I learned an appreciation for the movie through that ordeal. Your video showed me what insurmountable odds it was up against to succeed and it's cool it has become the cult classic it is today!
I am an Excelsior Union High School alum (Class of '82)... This film holds a special place in my heart. All the locations throughout the school and Norwalk are great memories. The Bowling Alley was Pioneer Bowl where the interiors were filmed while the exteriors were filmed outside of Norwalk Ice Rink.
Sweet Grease 2!.. Long time subscriber here, I just realized what I like so much about your channel is that you capture the vibe of the video store from the 80's that's really intricate art to nail down so perfectly like you did. MINTY should be given a nobel prize for art for bringing the art back to us!
I must have watched this a hundred times back in the day. I don’t know about under rated or whatever but my 10 year old self wore out the vhs on this one and time bandits at my cousins house. We didn’t yet have a vcr at my house. Side note my Dad paid like $600 for our first vcr. Crazy to think of it.
i love both grease and grease 2, the cast was great, the music was fantastic, the first Grease was set in the 50's, Grease 2 was set the 60's, it is a stand alone movie and the social commentary and music was current. Reproduction was one of the funniest moments in the movie.
It tickled me to death the first time I saw Grease, and realized that Frenchie's throwaway line about flunking tinting when her hair turned pink was actually something that happened in the original.
Great rundown. Thanks for the research. I got to see this in theaters in ‘82, and always wondered about some of the points you noted. You also reminded me of how cool that summer was at the movies. Saw all of those that summer.
I remember my grandmother saying she thought Grease 2 was better than the original. She really liked the comedy in it, especially the smaller guy being the leader of the T-Birds and constantly beating up his larger henchman. I don't think I got it on the first viewing but after watching it again, it is a really funny movie. I think it's true to the spirit of the original but it is it's own thing. However, it was always going to be difficult following up something as successful as Grease.
Totally agreed. My dad really liked the original, so I watched it a lot growing up, but I always enjoyed the second one. I always really liked motorcycles, so I liked that this Grease had bikes in it instead of cars (Although Greased Lightning was an epic car). I also really like Michelle Pfeiffer, and I thought she portrayed Stephanie in much the same way John did with Danny, they were both trying to live in two different worlds (Cool vs. Sensitive), which I thought made a lot of sense to keep at least THAT element of the original in there
I always liked Grease 2 since the day I rented on VHS in the early 80’s.I liked the cast and most of the songs! It was a colorful flick & the Dancing to me was better than the 1st one. The thing that always took me out of Grease 2,that Rydell looked different. I would love to see those deleted scenes.
I was a little kid when this game out. My mom took us to the theater, and my brother and I were STOKED to see...E.T. The Extra-terrestrial. We went to the box office annnd...a sign on the window saying "sold out". I still remember how crushed I was. The only other movie showing? Yep, Grease 2. I sat there fuming as the previews played, complaining non-stop. Then the movie started and there she was - Michelle Pfeifer. Ninety mins later, I had a new crush and was singing the songs on the way home. (I saw Grease a short time later and loved that one even more.)
While my family (mother, older sisters, myself, and even my father) all loved Grease, Grease 2 was the one we all loved more~ I think, for me, it was the way Stephanie was a replacement for Danny without the more negative aspects of Danny's personality; I liked that she knew what she wanted, and in the end got that and more, which she acknowledged. And I also loved that Michael was sincere, gentle, and intelligent. Hell, I liked that you can see little sparks of independence and wants in most the female characters, by the end^.^ Some of those deleted scenes I hadn't heard about, and I'd really wish the footage would be found and released. I think the scene of Michael going to Stephanie at the end of the talent show wouldn't be too shocking, cause he's supposed to be playing the piano for the talent show, right? My sisters, mother, and I joked about this last time we watched the movie during a game night. If the audience is supposed to think Michael died, who is the audience supposed to think is playing the piano? If the camera panned over to the side of the stage, Michael would be right there, right?~ Paramount apparently has some Grease things in the works... I'm... interested~~~ I'm hoping that if the one series is a sequel that it draws from *both* movies; really hoping it gets the full loving attention like Cobra Kai gave The Karate Kid franchise...
Sweet this video is 27 minutes same as the the length of a tV show on network television! and your content is so awesome I think you're really ready for network television
Caulfield was right about the title. 'Son of Grease' is creative and era-specific and sets up the film as what it is - a goofy, fun movie that's as much of a parody as an actual sequel. 'Grease 2' indicates that you're supposed to take the film seriously.
Minty, you mention Two of a Kind. You gotta do a 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Two of a Kind. Barely anything is widely known about it. It’s criminally underrated. And it has Oliver Reed playing the Devil and Gene Hackman as the voice of God! What’s not to love?!
I enjoy this as much as the original, and maybe even more. The songs are catchy, the cast is great all around including a young Shooter McGavin, and it's just fun
Four years sounds like nothing now, but back then for teens it was an eternity. Culture and fashion moved very quickly too. Resurrecting something from the 50s craze of the late-70s was never going to work in 1982.
I have always felt that there was something very special about Michelle Pfeiffer and in Greace 2 that was the first time I ever saw her. She could sing and she could dance and she could act and she just blew all the other actresses out of the water!!!
Ally Jay Bowie if you like Grease 2 better than the first one you have a severe mental problem because the first one's way better a million times better and will always be a million times better.? I'm sorry but you got some rocks in your head and some screw loses in your brain that need severe tightening.
Frenchie dropped out in Grease, she came back to Rydell to actually graduate in Grease 2…….. I’ve always wondered where she went……. She was one of THE best characters…….
I have an idea about frenchie, since she was only studying chemistry to get her diploma, she wasn't in regular classes but received private tutoring. Once she had completed everything and passed, was simply handed her diploma by the principal. Therefore she wasn't there for the whole year.
I seen Grease 2 first so I’ve always loved this movie more than the first one. I know all the songs to both so I guess it’s fair to say both of these movies have a special place in my heart.
I saw both films in the theater and yes I am one of the rare people that can tell you with a straight face the first film fails in comparison to the second one my wife has the first film in her collection and I have the second one in my collection it will always hold a special place in my heart
I was almost 12 years old in June 1982. I watched it endlessly for about a month, when it came on Cinemax or some cable channel in the early 80's. I had never seen the first Grease. I LOVED it! And you gave Adrian Zmed shit for his high voice, but this was supposed to be the early 60's. Have you listened to 60's music in this style. Frankie Avalon, Frankie Valli, and a number of others. It was appropriate for the time period (60's, not 80's). AND, I loved the 'Reproduction' song (I was about 12). Also, I think a bit of the problem was the boys had to change and not the girl (you did mention this in passing). Being that I was, and am, a female, I think that part of the story was awesome.
As a nerdy kid around your age I too thought the Michael change was far more relatable than the Sandy story from the original. The idea of the popular cute blonde literally telling him exactly what she was looking for and it was something he could go out and do because he was capable and smart was SUPER appealing to me as a kid. Hrmm...maybe I need to unpack that with my wife...hahaha.
I love this move!!! I used to watch it all the time growing up. Even had the soundtrack. Growing up I never did like the first Grease movie. I actually saw this movie first before ever seeing Grease.
I'm one of those who discovered this movie after it "flopped". In fact, I saw it first. And loved it. I loved Grease as well. But, I love both differently.
HBO is an underrated reason that this movie has a cult following. Grease 2 must have been a cheap movie for HBO to broadcast in 1982/1983/1984. I watched it countless times on HBO as a tween. I wonder how many other Gen xers have core memories associated with this movie. Seeing any part of Grease 2 transports me back to early mornings at my Grandma's house.
I don't know if someone has already pointed this out, but the video suggests that part of the reason for soundtrack's commercial failure was competition from Michael Jackson's "Thriller" at the time. The "Grease 2" soundtrack was released on June 11, 1982. "Thriller" wasn't released until the following November 30th (so I guess we're looking for another culprit).
I think Grease 2 is the best Grease film. The songs are more catchy and the characters were more likable in my opinion. I believe that it is underrated and judged too harshly.
A very important trivia point that I think you should've mention is that TOM CRUISE was going to play Michael but was declined according to one of the producers for being short...
I bet you that producer is now dreading that decision, Tom Cruise with many films under his belt and a film he started in (Top Gun) from the 80’s comes back as Maverick in Top Gun 2 minus Tom going crazy on the Oprah show and joining Scientology But at the same time Tom probably dodged a bullet since his career might’ve not taken off
Grease 2 and the Pirate Movie are my all time favorite movies as a kid. Watching them as an adult hits differently due to all the sexual jokes. They went right over my head lol!
I loved Grease 2! I saw it in the theater with my best friend and we sobbed during the song where Michael was singing in Biker Heaven. Here I am, a few decades later, still watching reruns of the movie, singing the songs (badly) in the shower. I wish I could tell Maxwell, that he did great and was perfect for the part. AND movie critics are just sour self-important chumps that probably couldn't get a real job in Hollywood. Much love from WV.
I saw Grease 2 first before seeing the original. I had heard the song and knew the story but never saw the original movie. I loved it - of course 2 hours of staring at Michelle Pfeiffer helped :). Also it has that "nerd winning" theme that was big in the 80's
I think it could have been interesting to have another Grease movie every few years that reflected a different era. Grease 3 could have been a few years later, say 1965, so it's Beatlemania and the British Invasion, Bob Dylan, The Byrds, etc. Grease 4 could have taken place in the late 60s and focused on the Woodstock era. Grease 5 could have been mid 70s where there's a battle between the disco kids and the punks.
Grease 3 would have taken place in the counter culture hippie era circa 1968 or'69. So I guess the musical numbers would have been done in psychedelic rock style,
I'm in the category that likes Grease2 more than Grease. Probably because I saw grease2 1st and when I saw the original it didn't have anywhere near the same feel to it.
I really love Grease 2, as I always connected with Michael being the smart and quiet guy that wanted to get with the hot and popular girl. In a weird sort of way, the movie is kind of a power fantasy for me as I wished I could have transformed myself to the badass biker in high school and got the hot girl. Also, young Michelle Pfeiffer is 🔥🔥
I absolutely love Grease 2!!!!! It was one of my favorite Movues as a kid!! I seen that movie even before the original!!! I feel like it's a very underrated Movie!!!! Keep up the great work 👍
Idk how old I was when I first saw Grease 2, maybe 10 or even a little younger, but my God I *loved it.* I watched it constantly, had the songs memorized, even had the soundtrack. I've never seen the original Grease, and don't have any interest in it really, bc I agree, they're two completely separate movies, despite the threads tying them together. It's a sequel in a *very* loose sense.
By itself, it's a middle of the road musical, but Grease's shadow was wayyyyy to big for it. To musical lovers like myself, who grew up in the 80's listening to both, it's a super campy twilight zone version of Grease with some good songs and alot of nostalgia.
I saw grease 2 first and 100s of times prior to the original so you’re absolutely right. On its own it okay (sometimes entertaining) but doesn’t compare to the original

When HBO had this and "Pirate Movie" in rotation, I was glued to the set for every showing. I was a junior in high school when Grease came out and have never seen more than clips of "Summer Lovin", "Greased Lightning" and "You're the One That I Want".
I’ve seen both waaaaay too many times. Love the Pirate Movie! These two movies are my forever favorites
Take me back please😅
You do have to watch this as a stand alone movie. It’s not horrible. Lots of talent!
Other footnotes…
Matt Lattanzi(Olivia Newton-John 1st hubby) stars in the movie. Olivia even threw a party for the cast after filming.
Twins Liz and Jean Segal (sisters of actress Katey Segal) also star in the movie. They went on to have a short lived TV series titled Double Trouble.
Oh my gosh! I didn't put it together that Brad was Matt Lattanzi! So glad you commented.

@@melanieannbellamy5903 I'm totally going to watch that. Thanks!!!! :)
This is a guilty pleasure movie. Michelle Pfeiffer is great as Stephanie. The songs are silly but fun.
Stephanie was the complete reverse of Sandy. Instead of starting out the film as sweet and wholesome then changing to leather clad greaser girl, she starts the movie as a greaser, then gradually turns into "good girl"
Also, her voice seems to change. At first she seems to speak in tough pseudo-New York accent. As she gradually turns softer it sounds more like Michelle Pfeiffer's real voice.
Michelle Pfeiffer says she's was embarrassed by starring in Grease 2. From Ms. Harper Stacey.

@@shanegoo3016 Yes, it is a scam. I reported it every time.

Michael is more likeable than Danny???
How dare you say that
I agree Michael is very likable, less ego. Both done very well though.
@@deadend1041 In your opinon, you mean. Just cause you see it that way doesn't make it a fact.
Me too! Couldn’t have said it better! I prefer Grease 2 better!
HBO did A LOT to make this movie remembered by playing it on an almost constant loop in the early 1980s.
it even put the soundtrack back on the billboard charts....same with Eddie and the Cruisers....
It ran on all of the cable movie channels in the summer of 1983.
Thats where my family saw it. Several times back then.
Very few sequels are as good as the original. Y ou can't catch lightning in a bottle twice.

Ha, I was surprised a few weeks ago to hear the "back to school" song while shopping at Walmart during "back to school." 😆 I think a lot of kids that grew up seeing this on cable have a soft spot for it, especially the songs.
I know I did me n my sisters would always sing it when it was time to for school even when we were seniors in highschool we would still sing it 😂
Even though I like the original in its own way, I have to say I am one of those people who likes the sequel more.
@@KinkyXristian And that's so unfortunate in and of itself, if true. Maybe the film wasn't completely to blame!
agree on all points.
That is the best freaking movie and that part was absolutely made for him!
I didn't like his Character as Rex Manning. He was a hasbeen butt hole.
Wasn't he also in The Colbys ?

I hated Grease 2 so much when it first came out that I walked out of the theater halfway through. Flash forward a year later, I'm stuck at a hotel for a week with Grease 2 on HBO in heavy rotation (back then, kids, we only had ONE HBO channel, and it was only on for limited hours per day, lol). I learned an appreciation for the movie through that ordeal. Your video showed me what insurmountable odds it was up against to succeed and it's cool it has become the cult classic it is today!

Growing up in the 80's, I saw Grease 2 long before seeing the first film. I think this is probably the reason I prefer the sequel over the original.

Sensitive), which I thought made a lot of sense to keep at least THAT element of the original in there
I agree with her
I always say I like Grease 2 better as a movie, but the songs of the original better ... and I love the music in Grease 2.
I actually thought the t birds and pink ladies were a trip in this!
I saw this 3days in a row at a drive-in, loved it much better.
Reproduction was so much better than Summer Lovin'.
Hell, I liked that you can see little sparks of independence and wants in most the female characters, by the end^.^
Some of those deleted scenes I hadn't heard about, and I'd really wish the footage would be found and released. If the camera panned over to the side of the stage, Michael would be right there, right?~
Paramount apparently has some Grease things in the works... I'm... interested~~~ I'm hoping that if the one series is a sequel that it draws from *both* movies; really hoping it gets the full loving attention like Cobra Kai gave The Karate Kid franchise...

Caulfield was right about the title. 'Son of Grease' is creative and era-specific and sets up the film as what it is - a goofy, fun movie that's as much of a parody as an actual sequel. 'Grease 2' indicates that you're supposed to take the film seriously.
I think most adults in the 80s were pretty poor at understanding irony. I’d say Caufield was very ahead of his time.

Apparently I watch sequels before the originals a lot because this is another one. I liked it.

I bet you that producer is now dreading that decision, Tom Cruise with many films under his belt and a film he started in (Top Gun) from the 80’s comes back as Maverick in Top Gun 2 minus Tom going crazy on the Oprah show and joining Scientology

And the soundtrack was for me, nearly perfect.
I agree .8t would be sooo awsome
They should be going on into the 80's and nineties and 'naughts...

By itself, it's a middle of the road musical, but Grease's shadow was wayyyyy to big for it. To musical lovers like myself, who grew up in the 80's listening to both, it's a super campy twilight zone version of Grease with some good songs and alot of nostalgia.
Literally love this movie. My best friend and I would drive around singing the soundtrack all the time ❤️
I certainly think it stands up on its own. Problem is, although its a sequel, people compare it to Grease which is an amazing film.
I agree, it should have been like a branch off, not pitched as a sequel.
I saw grease 2 first and 100s of times prior to the original so you’re absolutely right. On its own it okay (sometimes entertaining) but doesn’t compare to the original
