An acquaintance who once loudly proclaimed "I hate Christmas because I hate Christians" just recently wished me a "Happy Birthday Jesus" on Christmas Eve. Small steps, but this does work, even where you assume it won't.
Cooking is amazing, and so is Jesus..😊 By talking about Jesus, you can change the culture of a place
This is so true. Eventually even some of the harshest critics just relax. When I told my mother I wanted to become Catholic she was outraged and although she still doesn't really agree with my choice, she has calmed down a lot and even went to mass with me once.
God bless u more !
🤗💙
Wow, what a beautiful story
I started mentioning my faith lately and it does feel weird and awkward! Encouraged to not stop, it will get normal and it's ok to express what's in our heart
Father Columba, I thank you sincerely for your imitation of the reluctant room. Well done. Thank you! You help me understand aaaalll things of life!😜Amen!😇
Attraction rather than promotion.if you want what I have (peace, love, compassion, serving others: joy) you have to do what I do 🙂
Father Columba, this message was SO GOOD!!! I'm living with non-believing family and some days I become so despondent on how to be salt and light. Ps. I've only just reverted back to Catholicism after decades away from the Church and God has done a total transformation of my life. My family think I've lost the plot. Hahaha
Put Rosary in my pocket when I’m outside. Sometimes I double it up and put it around my wrist. I don’t fear anyone . I have to behave better too .
I am blessed to live in South Louisiana where religion plays such a huge part in our lives and culture. Many people here are Catholic and there are many other Christian faiths too. Many of my friends’ conversations talk about church, faith, praying, etc. I’m so glad that this is where I live and that our culture is so faith based!
I feel glad too! I appreciate you sharing!! Hopefully I will travel back to Louisiana again someday.
We need to normalize saying Merry Christmas and not happy holidays. Some people do respond not so kindly, but it is our faith and we can share the joy of our saviors birth.
Merry Christmas!
Ever so true, one atheist friend, understood why i attended mass on weekday due to holy day of obligation. What lead to yhe understanding was him knowing I believe in Jesus for the past many years of our friendship. Thank you father.
Thank you Father!
Love this Father. I have found my Miraculous Medal speaks volumes. Many people will actually bring it up.
🙏🏼
This is one of my toughest struggles. I find I am very cowardly when it comes to talking about the faith with non believers, even my family, and even when they show direct interest by asking genuine questions about my religion, I just feel awkward and I never elaborate, I just give the shortest answer possible. I even find it very hard to pray before meals when I eat with non-believers, because I don't want to stand out and look like a poser.
You're not alone
I feel the poser comment.
I've just discovered your videos… last night. Your warmth can be felt across the ocean! God love you, Father. I love you already. Thank you for these videos.
Great to have you here!
Thank you somuch for this advice, so simple yet effective. I have been praying for courage because almost everyone around me is strongly against the church so i have been a silent thermometer. This might help me become a thermostat. Please pray for me as well. May the Lord bless you father. ❤
Well done, remember God is with you every step of the way.
Pray for me too. I am like this too. I am sorry to say. Confession and admittance of forgiveness and walk straighter. I am just so shy. Maybe I just need to scream it and get it out. I can make it weird and be ok with that. Stranger things have happened like blind men seeing, water into wine, being raised from the dead. Stuff like that. Katy screaming she loves Jesus and made it socially awkward like everything else. What about that Jesus guy? they will say? Katy made it so weird, but like Jesus you know?
@@kt5137 You can only be expected to do what you can do. There is no need for guilt. Perhaps just going to church when visitors wander, seeing you praying is enough for now? I pray for you.
I'm in this boat as well and will pray for everyone who can relate. It's so nice to come to know I'm not the only one struggling with this
You may be the only Bible that someone reads. Live the Word.
This little sermon rang so true. In my life we hardly talk at all about religion in the work place. I am certainly private in my faith and Father's You Tube Homily offers so much food for thought.
This is great. I actually feel like I can’t talk of my faith to my husband. So I usually keep my mouth shut. But this is helpful.
God bless u more!
🤗💙
Glad it was helpful.
Thank you CTM for sharing and for proudly proclaiming the Catholic faith! In His Hands we can turn this broken earth of ours around.@@ctmcatholic
A very timely video for me. I'm constantly thinking about how best to communicate my faith and explain why we do the things we do. Was thinking about it the other day and also about how Jesus said not to worry about how we will defend ourselves as the Holy Spirit will help us. I just figured to myself that I need to stop trying to control everything and just be truthful to my faith and let the Holy Spirit help me.
I was just feeling this way tn. For a long time, I just didnt care... but I have felt isolated at times with my love of Jesus. Now, He sent me to be a hospice nurse.. and u know what? I thought I was going to share.my faith with others in this field, but instead... Jesus has increased my faith through others. I will never be afraid.to mention my best friend Jesus. He is everything to me.❤❤ and I am finding that He means a lot more to others than I thought😊
Yes this and some of the comments mimic my own experience. I feel much stronger for it even there is now hostility towards Christianity it seems. I think that if the martyrs did what they did, I can take a little ribbing.
I'm always amazed at how well timed these videos are. They always help. Thank you!
Us Catholics need this so badly! Wish we could be more outward in our faith. Mormons for example are just accepted as evangelising by going door to door
I wish Fr Columba was my spiritual director! 🕊️
ha ha, I also have yet to fully follow through on advice he had given and so I have yet to obtain a new spiritual director myself. If someone here, if you would like me to pray with you and/or if you would be available at least twice a year via chat using technology as a Catholic Spiritual Director, would you please let me know somehow?!?
Yes, Colin Farrell accent and all!
Thank you 🙏 this is helpful. God bless you all!
This makes me want to cry (a good cry), thank you Fr. Columba.
💙
You're my favey-fave right now Father🙏
🙂
I admire this sensibility, integrity and authenticity. Thank you, I will take this to heart. Wishing you all the best in the new year!
Vitamins for the soul.
Amen 🙏
So true. We can start in mass but fully participating in the prayers instead of mumbling sounds under our breath because we don't know the words. Pro tip, in many missals the words to the harder to remember prayers are inside the front cover...
yes, I have a couple family members who own missals. Hopefully I'll borrow one!
"I also love cake"😂
I work with teenagers and they always ask me a lot of questions about my faith!❤ We have wonderful conversations about God and the catholic church.
They are very curious!😀
And I really love telling them about Jesus and how He found me and I Him.❤
That is really great!!!❤😊🎉❤😊
@@jessicaroseelizabethp.7911 yes it is!!😀
At work, i fraternise with fellow Catholics (avowed not in the closet) - there are about 6 of us, and we talk about going to church, go to work with ash on our foreheads, i've given them Catholic gifts when i went to Divine Mercy shrine in Boston; i tell the boss that i'm Catholic and First Fridays & First Saturdays (dont roster me on those days).
Even though I have nominally catholics at work, the only ones I can easily talk about God are the two Muslimas.
The more I seek knowledge of my the gospel and the more I pray I feel I have less trouble being open with my beliefs …. I do think that you would have less trouble with this now FR as I think it would be quite obvious at this point😂
Very helpful. Thank you!!!
I realised I was editing myself a little while back and I thought, "I don't want to be like that anymore, my Faith is so important to my life". And why would I care what others think? Do they care about my opinion? Christ means so much more to me than what any of these people think, most of them strangers.
Thanks for the reminder. 🙏💖
You are so welcome
How very Irish to use the Immersion as a metaphor fir faith! Love you, Father. ❤ Shared.
💙🙏🏼
Excellent and relevant!!! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Hello father Columba if by any chance you’re reading this my name is Pedro. We had lunch at Denver airport after the Exodus 90 freedom summit. I spoke to brother Samuel about our encounter ! Just wanted to wish you a happy new year and hoping you are doing well. Praying to meet with you again some day. Peace
Hi Pedro, we’ll pass this on to Fr Columba.
Happy New Year, God bless you 🙏 🕯❤️🕊🌹
Amen
I just say it plainly around friends and family, as if I'm talking about any other regular thing. When I come around others, I try to be strategic, but can come off a bit strong at times.
So Very Good!!! Happy New Year 2024!!! 🎉❤🙏❤️
My children are adults now all in their 20's. I'm not sure if it was because I worked outside of home, or if it was parental alienation from their father, but I literally have to demand that they attend mass, when they come home to stay with me. Two of them will go to mass occasionally on their own.
Enormous like the Truth
Well said and something that desperately needed to be said, so thank you. Impressive beard by the way.
Thank you Fr.C.J.
Absolutely love love love this.
Happy New year 2024 💞
Oh God bless you!! You are such an encouragement 🙌 when I first came to faith in Jesus I was way over the top in sharing my faith 🤣 and got so much eye rolling I went the other way! To being almost off the radar.... but it’s painful to be like that. Thank you for being the sensible voice of Reason father Columba!
Thank you Fr Columba for all your videos full of truth, endearing sweetness and fun. Wishing you a very blessed new year. Watching you from Denver, Colorado, a mile closer to the stars. 😊❤🌠
After 42 years of marraige my other half still hurrumps if i say what happened at MASS. Temperature glacial!!!
God have mercy but it is harder to talk of my faith to believers than non-believers.
I had two different people ask me yesterday as I mentioned going to church "what do you do in church?" They were mainly asking because of Christmas. I felt like I didn't give much of an answer. 😅 I mean I tried my best. Its odd/ difficult to have to explain what we do.
I usually explain how we pray, sing & worship together as a community because that is the church - believers 💗✝️ Receiving Jesus in the Holy Eucharist & listening to God's Word is essential to our faith 💗 I hope that helps 😊 God Bless you & your loved ones 👼 Merry Christmas 💗🎄👼
Thank you for that I have found it difficult to talk to my own daughter in a house of five people but I am slow but surely, thank you again
THANKYOU ONCE AGAIN FR COLUMBA.GOD BLESS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR x
God bless!
Merry Christmas (belated) and Happy New Year! Thank you for making us strong in faith! @@ctmcatholic
After 35, I discovered what the secret is about telling a mixed group of people that I'm Catholic... I just don't give a crap what other people think anymore. I care more about what Jesus thinks because what 'people' think doesn't really matter. =]. Have a great Christmas.
Thats pretty much the way to go ...I don't self sensor there is always gonna be someone who is gonna have an issue
I like to just start explaining miracles that I’m looking into. The miracle I pick depends on what the person does for a living. Padre Pio is my fave.
Thats itttt
Hello ,from arfan in bradford 🤗💙
Merry Christmas to you 💟
Merry Christmas, Arfan!
There’s a battle raging. I am shocked that even in hitherto Catholic Ireland, Jesus is now euphemised to the UNSPEAKABLE “…J-WORD…” 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I try to keep in mind how bashful we're conditioned to be about religion, Christianity in particular. I wasn't any different not that long ago.
Saying “I believe in God” sounds kind of relativistic. Is there a better way to tell someone that Jesus is real and He loves you personally, without “pushing your faith” on them?
4:16 22? Man your rooms are cold! 🤣
That's Celsius.... That is actually warm lol
@@heathervancalcar4446 Yes, I know. Woosh!
Does your armour of God have a dent?
Faith is from God in believing that God sent his son the Lord Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Nothing more, nothing less. Don't make it confusing.
Sorry to point this out Father, but I noticed you take the Lord's name in vain. This could very well have been unintentional, and if this is the case, forgive me. But if it was intentional, I wanted to ask why you have done so. I've heard some Catholics treat this matter lightly and while my intent is not to cast judgement, I just wanted to address a matter that is indeed important. God bless.
🩵🤍♥️🙏🏻🕊️
Amen.
God bless u !
