At last a DIY video that doesn't have constant yak yak yak all the way from start to finish. Looks really lovely 😀
I definitely try not to do that too much!
After looking at replacement shades at the cost of $48 each, this video is a lifesaver! Thank you so much for making it!
You are so welcome! Working on another makeover very soon actually! I hope you'll watch. If you're on Instagram I'd love to see you there, too! instagram.com/themarkmontano/
Great video; love it. The only thing I would say when using a fabric with a printed design (repeat pattern) make sure to mach the design when joining/gluing the two together on the frame. Thanks for sharing.
I did my best, but alas, it was still a little off here and there! I still love it and I put the crooked side toward the wall. :)
AAHHH!!!! When I watched this, I literally SQUEALED!!! Now I have every lightshade in my house on my living room floor and I am searching for fabric. You've changed me forever and I love you for it!!! THANK YOU for filling up my crafty little heart with fabric and trimming goodness!!!!
Hahaha, I love your reaction to Mark's lamp project. I feel much the same.
Shivers InTheDark314 Did u do your shades?
Happy you like the project! Thank you!
I was just shopping online for someone that could recover by ripped up lamp shades. I'm a big crafter why didn't I think of this. Thx and your video is perfect!!!😅
Yes, he's fun and inspiring! Lampshades are ridiculous expensive!
Just about anything ratty on the side of the street pulls at my heart strings....love your lampshade, Mark! I never thought about stripping it first, all my attempts have been to go over the existing fabric and Ive never had one turn out quite how I had hoped, tfs!
Thanks so much! I enjoy making these so much!
Thank You for sharing this! I thrifted a lamp today that needs a TOTAL makeover! This was awesome.
Thank you so much!
i've had your Big Ass book for years and I LOVE IT. It's the best craft book I've ever seen!! Found your channel entirely by accident when looking for lampshade ideas. I was watching you with the sound off and I recognized the Big Ass book behind you in the shot. then I looked at the name of the channel and realized YOU are Mark Montano!!! I'm so glad I found your channel!
I'm so glad you found me! Yay! Hellooooo Roxanne! Make sure to keep in touch, OK! I mean it!
@@MarkMontanoMakeYourMark I will. You are very talented!
I almost got tears in my eyes when I saw how you transformed this shade. So beautiful and it really does look easy to do. Thanks Mark!
Thanks so much! I enjoy making these so much!
YES!!! Thank you Mark. I finally find a tutorial for this particular type of lamp shade and it's perfect for the print on the fabric I want to use. All the other how-to's I looked at are the typical trace the shade on paper then on the fabric and just would not have worked, so thank you. Lol I felt like a dummy when I saw your video and thought "DUH" so simple. You're awsome
Thanks so much! I enjoy making these so much!
Checked a couple of sites then found yours excellent in every way and now thanks to you I am now in process of revamping my old lampshade Thank you again
Any time Carol! You can always line yours if you choose a white cotton first and then the fabric over it.
Nothing short of genius!!!!!! I love it!
Thanks so much! I enjoy making these so much!
Wow this video was posted 7 years ago - yet forever useful information. My bedroom lamps needes new shades. I couldnt find shades that I liked - for months. I was about to get new lamps. Then I saw this video. I will recover my shades :) Thank you! :)
Honestly, it's the only way I'll put a lampshade in my house. I recover all of them to match the room.
Followed your video and it worked fantastically! Love my new lampshades.
That's always great to hear, Teri!
Beautiful
Thanks so much! I enjoy making these so much!
That lamp shade looks really nice Mark! Thanks for showing us how to customize a lamp for any room.
You're so welcome Abel! you can cut a lining for it as well and put that on first if you want. I use a dim edison bulb when you can see through the fabric a bit. Hey, if you're on Instagram, I'd love to see you there, too. Here's my link: instagram.com/themarkmontano/
Thank you, thank you! I have an ornate lamp that I love but the shades are too dark. I feel confident enough now to replace them with gorgeous fabric. Hallelujah!🙌🏾
You can do this Marie! If you want a liner, just add a layer of white cotton under the fabric you chose. Hey, find me on Instagram, too! @TheMarkMontano
You have just gotta another subbie! Triple WOW!

My goodness. Wish I had found you last year. I sewed mine and it didn't work so well. I will now have another go with the matching frame that I so nearly threw out!
Sewing is too hard for me, too! Gluing is so much easier!
- Beautiful fabric ! ! ! This is one of the most helpful tutorials on recovering lamp shades. Thanx 4 sharing.
Glad it was helpful! Find me on Instagram, too, ok! instagram.com/themarkmontano/reels/
Your eye for color, texture and patterns are incredible! You make things with minimal tools and explain the steps extremely well. I am on a very tight budget having just moved with not a lot of money left over to make my place cute and pretty. I'm so glad I found your channel my dear!
It's easier than it looks! Promise!
Mark, fabulous job on the lamp! The fabric is gorgeous and looks so expensive! I was wondering about your glue gun as well, What brand is it?
Not sure about the brand, but it's a fine tip glue gun from JoAnn fabric and crafts. JoAnn has some seriously good crafty aisles now!
Hi what kind of glue gun you use, I like your better than mine!!!
Surebonder Detail Glue Gun
Thank you so much Mark! I have a lampshade that I have been saving for sometime. The silk lining is badly torn and the whole shade looks so tattered, but I love the shape of it. In fact, the shape of the shade is very much like yours. After seeing your instructional video I can hardly wait to buy just the right fabric, ribbon and trim to coordinate with it's vintage base. You are such an inspiration!
So happy you like it!
Loved the way you created a beautiful lamp shade, thank you for sharing....keep on creating.
I will Angelica! Thanks for watching.
LOL!! I feel the same way when I see things that I can fix on the side of the street. hahaha
Right! So many free treasures out there!
they just jump in the car as I drive by
Tammy Phifer 😂😂😂😍😍😍🤔
Thanks so much!
Thanks so much!
Lol
Love your quick and easy lampshade cover with equally easy, precise instructions. Anxious to try my hand at use burlap.
Glad it was helpful! Burlap sounds great!
Ripping everything apart so fun , the pattern is beautiful love it!

I live on an Alaskan island where its hard to get things...and Wow! So inspired to recycle and sell your DIY creative ideas! Thank you for sharing your art.
Sell away! I require 10% or cake.
This is amazing. THANK YOU for sharing this. Beautiful work.
I'm so glad you liked it Shelly! I hope you'll find me on Instagram, too! I'm here: instagram.com/themarkmontano/reels/
You're right! I do LOVE this! I have so many lamp shades I picked up thrift shopping. I can't wait to get them covered now. Thank you SO much!
Since watching this video, I've looked for items I could use for the fabric to cover the lamp shade with. I love the way yours turned out. I do like something different and yours definitely fit the bill. I found several items at my thrift store and I admit I didn't give items enough of a look see to use for shades, but what will change on my future thrift store jaunts. I will also check out the fabric stores as well. I bought a wonderful book on recovering lampshades, but your video is just outstanding. I will check out your book also. If your book has ideas like this, I can't go wrong. Another thing about your lampshade is that those lampshades are perfect for some of these vintage lamps that can be found. I am always on the lookout for those too. Some are quite valuable.
glad this was helpful!
Happy you like my projects! Makes my day!
No stopping me now Mark. Thank you for inspiration and know how. Brilliant tutorial.
Write if you have a question!
This turned out really nice. Love the fabric and trim you used.
I love these shades so much! I have them all over my house!
Excellent video. Easy to follow and straight to the point (no waffling!!! Lol) I have a large shade to cover and didn't know where to start, but now I do. Thankyou X
It's easier than it looks! Promise!
Loved it... It's gonna bring new life into our house and our sad and drab shades will be happy again...
Thanks so much! I enjoy making these so much!
Thanks for such a great tutorial! A neighbor asked me to replace a lampshade and I was clueless, but it looks easy, albeit time-consuming and exacting. Learn something new every day!
You can totally do this!
Oh my goodness. You just saved me a lot of money. Now I’m going to redo my vintage lamps at home. Thank you so so much for you amazing ideas! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Awesome! You'll never toss another old lampshade again!
This method was PLANNED ahead not oversized pieces of fabric put on and then cut to size after! Easy to do and to follow instructions. Thank you.Jenny.
So happy you like this!
Love how it turned out. Quite beautiful I must say. The fabric says it all. Thanks for sharing your ideas.❤❤❤👏👏👏

Hello Mark! And thank you for this how to fancy lamp shade DIY! The other day A friend of mine gave me a beautiful wrought iron Candlestick lamp with a white shade oh, and she told me that the shade was stained, but I knew I could find something to fix it with and here is your video! What beautiful fabric you used and how creative! I thank you again!
So glad this worked out for you Denise! Hey, if you're on Instagram I'd love to see you there, too! Here's my link just in case: instagram.com/themarkmontano/
I did the lampshade as you instructed and it looks amazing.. I'm so pleased with it.. thànk you..
I'm so damn proud of you! Once you make one, you'll start covering all of your shades even if they don't need it OR you'll find old shades on the street and give them makeovers! If you have a second, I'd love to know what you think of my latest DIY...A Van Gogh inspired mirror. ua-cam.com/video/ehgUHam07Fk/v-deo.html
Awesome, I have an old antique lamp with a torn shade and can't find another shade like it. So I am super excited about using your method to re-create this beautiful lamp! Thanks for sharing!!!
You are the sweetest!
I love your creativity & humor!
I appreciate that Carol! Stay in touch, OK!
Mark your choice of fabric was great. You really inspired me to be creative. I can't wait to see what you will design next.
It was a happy accident! I found it in a 99c bin in downtown LA.
Loved your lampshade makeover.
Hello and good morning! I still do this to this day. I really don't like white lampshades and old lampshades are so much fun to recover!
Gorgeous transformation!
One of my favorite things to do with old lampshades!
perfect! I have a lampshade exactly this shape and now I know how to make it pretty!
Have fun! You can always add a white fabric to the inside first for a lining, if you want. Then add the decorative fabric over it.
We have a 10 bulb chandelier that we recently put LED bulbs in. The light it gives off is quite 'cold', so I thought I would need to buy all new chandelier shades in a red colour to warm it up! Now I can just make them! FAB!!! I am going fabric shopping now!
Glad to be of service!
This lampshade is really beautiful...good idea. Thanks,
You are welcome 😊 *find me on Instagram if you're there, too! I'm at @TheMarkMontano

Great job love the fabric/ I want to do lamp shades too and I never thought to remove the old fabric and put new one one! You are very clever I love watching you I learn so much! Thank you
Makes me happy to hear!
Hi Mark - the shade looks great and you've shown a really easy way to upcycle the old shade - and much simpler than the traditional stretch and stitch method. I love upcycling. We live in such a disposable society it makes me sad. Many thanks David
You're so right, David. I remember my first apartment in NYC. It was filled with furniture I found on the street. Beautiful things that people were tossing or selling for little to nothing. I loved that boho way of life and still do.
Excellent..job..simple lesson.Love it and thank you for your tutorial
You are welcome! I do this to every lampshade in my house. Make sure to use cool, eco friendly bulbs!
Love the combination of blue and a pop of gold!
Thanks so much! I enjoy making these so much!
I did a lampshade project very much like this almost 30 years ago. If hot glue existed, I did not know of it. Instead, I found Tacky Glue. I bought plain colored bias tape and used the Tacky Glue to wrap each and every rib on my lamp shade frame tightly. In doing this, I gave myself a surface to glue my panels to. I then waited at least a day for the ribs to dry.
The next step was to glue on the top and right side of every panel to the cloth on the ribs. I then let those dry overnight. The next day, I could glue the bottoms and left sides. The left sides were glued to the right side of the panel next to them. Once the panels were all dry, I trimmed up close to the glue and then covered every seam with fancy rick-rack. I used bridal fabric because mine was a formal lampshade, and on the bottom edge, I glued a 4" fringe. It has held up all these years, and no one could ever tell that it was made this way.
Amazing technique Nancy! You're a PRO!
You are superb! You have really simplified this process.
It's easier than it looks! Promise!
Very well done! Finished product looks great--thanks for posting!
Of course! Several other lamp videos on my page, too.
I love those Paisley drapes!! and the peacockish lampshade!
That's my living room!
This is brilliant! I can't wait to try it. It looks so easy and fairly inexpensive!
If you want to line it you can use white fabric along with the decorative fabric you choose. Find me on Instagram if you're there, too! I'm TheMarkMontano

I have a lamp shade that same size, and was gong to put some beads around it. But the way you showed how to put fabric around it was so easy. Now I can get mine done. Thank you so much for the video.
Glad it was helpful Crystal!
just beautiful so very effective thank you for showing
Of course! I hope it was helpful.
Fantastic! I have two old lampshades (circa 1960s?) that are badly in need of upcycling. This is great.
Glad you're inspired to make them over! That's awesome!
on my way to store for supplies!!! watching your videi inspired me to redo my old lamps!!!💓
Awesome! Love hearing that!
Beautiful, Mark, just beautiful!
Thanks Patricia!
That's a gorgeous lamp, Mark. The thing is, I would have not picked that fabric, but when you started applying it on the frame, it suddenly became perfect for it. I absolutely love it.
It looks perfect in my house. I have a few of them actually!
Thank you are the 1st person that actually showed removing the old fabric! I would like to cover some lampshades, It's easier but not wise. Patterns, textures, unsecured seams, and laying materials with adhesive spray can raise the risk of fire hazards. Patterns may show through, textured old shades make for an uneven and un-smooth application with adhertion issues that chould be complicated by loose seams and damaged facets. Removing it is just the best route to take 😉 Good job! And thank you 💝
You're so welcome. You can always use a white layer underneath, too. Just cut both at the same time.
Got to love it. I have a bunch of wires that i took from a bunch of old broken lamps shades. Thanks for the ideas.
Dave Webster,Sr You got it! Just a reminder to press the little gear next to the SUBSCRIBE button and then press GET UPDATES so you won't miss my new videos, OK!
