Love it! Good lessons for us to see and hear about. Garrett, we need to hear about matching interiors with the architecture of our homes. Can we really have Midcentury in a Federal style home? What is the architecture of a standard 1800 square foot starter house? What direction should we go in a small, plain vanilla starter house?

Garrett you are the best!! Theme rooms and fake drapes with grommets (!!) are the worst offenders to me. Your comments are right on point, and I love the way you manage to make them funny, informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work!!
Fake Drapes! BARF! When I first bought my home, I didn’t know one of bedrooms was staged with fake drapes. Ugh! What a disappointment it was to discover the window was a lot smaller than I thought. Thanks again for the masterful explanations on interior design Garrett. I learn so much from you everyday!
I went out of my comfort zone making a western themed guest room to welcome guests to Arizona. It’s subtle enough I hope. I framed beautiful illustrations from an old children’s book about cowboys. I used a vintage lamp with a ceramic horse. There’s an old dresser probably from a dude ranch. I lined the drawers with vintage cowboy wrapping paper. I hung my dad’s old cowboy hat on the wall along with a little Mexican tapestry. There are rustic Mexican bedside tables and a vintage serape on the bed. I think it works because it’s all antique. The colors are subtle and nothing is phony. It’s playful old Arizona. In the living room I made fun of the ubiquitous Pueblo ladders people have around here (usually pink and turquoise). I made one out of ocotillo branches with their dangerous big sharp thorns.
I think that sounds lovely and thoughtful. Lots of real references to Arizona. It’s a nice way for guests to learn and experience a bit more of Arizona while visiting with you. Love that!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My theme was cats and I don't own one. The stager hid ALL of them. You are 100% correct about messy beds. Hate the throw a big solid color comforter on a bed haphazardly and it's made? Sloppy. 😂 love that check for bedbugs comment. Lastly, thank you for splaining fake drapes. I didn't want to seem stupid asking what's upbwith that.
Great video as always. I purchased my home with fake well made designer drapes and it actually makes a lot of sense. The area is a huge living room, tall cathedral ceiling, very large windows with the transom windows being trapeze shaped, like a swiss chalet. The drapes are between the windows and on the end close to the wall. The purpose is visual advantage, and to hide boring space between the window. They lead your eyes up to the high ceiling. I don't have anything else that high, my tallest plant is only 6' high. I don't need real drapes, there are blinds for when the sun is overwhelming. As my home is located on a slope, those windows face down to the valley, so my close neighbour can't even see inside.
weird architectural thing in my house: i have a HUGE area above my front door. its not a niche, or ledge, its 10ft x 10ft with an 8ft ceiling. thats the size of my bedroom growing up! anything i put there would be too small and i read its better to leave it empty than decorate inappropriately, so its empty.
I agree with most everything (ESPECIALLY fake it drapes 🙄🤷♀) Why ??? I cannot stand them, I guess if it makes a person happy in their space, but again why? I love a sharply made bed
OMG! I had a themed fly fishing bathroom with wallpaper and pictures. What was I thinking🤪. I know better now especially after following you. Thanks for helping me laugh at myself.
I did the stupid fake drapes thing and really wish I hadn’t-and I’ve worked in design! I have a very wide window in the room and thought it needed something. I’m going to use the panels but on a much more narrow window where they can actually be closed and function.
There is a boutique hotel in the small city I live in, and every room in it is a completely different theme. One room looks like a library, a two story suite looks like a seaside place, one room is like a room in a palace, nd so on. It’s great and everyone loves it!
I have a Stardew Valley themed basement for my early 20's kids! It is not as though I can visit Stardew Valley tomorrow and get pieces to incorporate lol!! It coordinates well with the laundry baskets, piles of art supplies and snacks scattered throughout the space. I am sure you would be uhm... amazed at my decorating prowess.
We have two weird cutouts that were done by the builder. We hope to have a contractor fix them once the economy cools down. Love your advice! The suggestion to size up on the comforter is genius!
From weird architectural features: my apartment (rental) has a glass block window connecting the living room and the bedroom. Right in front of the only space the bed can fit in that bedroom.
I can't explain how happy I am that I found your channel before I started decorating my home. I've never been into decorating because for years I lived in places temporarily and moved a lot. Now that we have bought our forever house I am ready to decorate. I had zero sense of how to decorate. For example I thought flipper gray was still in style. I never even knew it was flipper gray 😂 I also have hideous grommet curtains from walmart 😮 i didnt even notice that months ago my husband hung a collage picture frame on our wall that still has stock images in it 😮😮😮 I also do not have a single throw pillow in my house. Things are a changing... SOON
Awesome! Glad you are enjoying the content. Thanks for watching, and please take a moment to support the channel if you haven’t already by subscribing. I appreciate it. 😊😊😊
What an excellent video! I now have names for things that bother me, too. I exclaimed out loud when you showed the layered comforters. I will definitely try that when I makeover my bedrooms! Thank you.
As usual dear Garrett, I agree with everything you say. You are so brilliant at what you do. Love your show and Look forward to it every week. Love from this Australian. ❤
I know I’m weird, but I like my bed to look “undone”. I think when done correctly (high quality sheets, feather down bedding, crisp white pallet) this can look very cool yet inviting
I read that the first thing you should do is make your bed bc it makes your day headed off in the right direction. My son gets mad but I make sure he makes his bed as well 😂
Essentially I agree about themes. But my daughter has a harry potter room. The rest of my house is very much not themed!!! I did refuse to put any permanent things like wall paper up, instead I put a nice wall paper that gives dark academia vibes (not books- don't need a library theme) and we can take out the bedding, pictures and other bits and bobs and the theme can disappear. I also have a UK super king bed, I cannot get a larger duvet- I've looked everywhere. I do have a very oversized cover.
Glad it wasn’t just in my mind! Life’s too short to not be doing the best you can, especially when work isn’t what you want it to be. I’m sure in that Seattle video you said he’s crazy talented so I’m sure he’ll find the right fit soon (if he hasn’t already) and you won’t live with the ‘what if’ thoughts in the future. Our family motto is ‘every day is an adventure’ and sometimes you don’t know until you’ve given it a go. Xxx
Agreed! Time is precious and we ultimately made the best decision for us under the circumstances. Seattle and the Pacific Northwest in general are lovely, but that did not outweigh the position not being what was expected especially when my husband’s time is always sought after in a variety of industries and we love our home and Las Vegas. The Seattle area will however always be a nice place to visit in the future. We enjoyed living in the Queen Anne section. Thanks for caring! You are appreciated. 😊😊😊
I have bulk heads in my kitchen that have nothing in them. They’re just there to fill the gap between the cabinets and the ceiling and there were cabinets blocking part of the space between the living room and the kitchen. We’re taking it all out because the kitchen doesn’t have a lot of light and we’re hoping it will make it feel more open. The other unusual thing that we have in three of the bedrooms they put little nooks with shelves behind the doors. I had no idea what to do with them. I painted the inside of the one in our bedroom black and put some books and a couple of cute things; but to be honest, it’s kind of a pain to have to dust whenever I clean.
Hello 👋 omg you find that a lot in older homes in P.R. Windows and walls in weird places that made no sense we literally remodeled our house inside and out to the point that no one recognized it anymore in a very good way. Great video as always 😊
My design aesthetic is Dorm room😂😂😂 I have gone Boho/ Hippie cheap and comfortable 😂😂😂 or as comfortable as possible. I am enjoying your channel and personality. Peace and Blessings
Thanks so much! I’m totally in favor of having a style that makes someone happy and comfortable in their home. I don’t push mine or any other design style on people. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven’t already and become a subscriber. I appreciate your support.
😮haha I have fake windows lol… the rod is the length of the wall…. Extra layers texture’s & sheers…. To give the illusion of a bigger window than the single window …. Am I dated 😢…. Thanks for sharing!!!!
I have fake drapes. I cannot disagree with you. I have a large window that I would have preferred to leave plain, but the family room is an open floor plan with the kitchen. We had an acoustical problem and the drapes definitely helped improve it. The drapes do not jump out at you which was my intent. Love your videos!
Thanks so much for supporting the channel! Glad you are enjoying the content. I think you did something good for that particular space which you needed for functionality. There are always exceptions.😊😊😊
Hmmm, well I guess I have to raise my hand on the, “Fake drapes.” Lol I have a large square window topped with a really large half moon window. I got a contractor who was going to charge me 10k to turn it into one large window. My ceiling is vaulted there so a drapery rod will not go across the space without cutting the half moon window with half of it sticking above the drapery top. So, in order to achieve a more formal and elegant look, I did the drapery on each side of both windows all the way to the very top. It required 120 inch drapes. It does draw the eye up and I don’t think it looks terrible. It looks better than nothing at all, which was my only other option…
LOVE your videos and thought I had subscribed to the channel but apparently didn’t! My foolish mistake has been remedied 😂 Now I’m about to spend way more time than I should catching up on your videos! ❤
Agree with everything, especially the fake curtains. I also dislike numerous cushions on beds. I have chronic back pain so use 3 different pillows of different centres in different configurations through the night. They stack better than cushions, so I don’t fall over them during the night and the covers get washed regularly (I don’t seem to wash cushion covers as often - I guess because they don’t get used - just moved from bed to floor and back again). Am I going mad but I thought you’d moved to Seattle, but thought you said Las Vegas during this video - I may have been confused as I take strong meds for the back pain and was racing through Grey’s Anatomy (set in Seattle).
Thanks for sharing! Yes, we moved to Seattle for a bit, but of course kept our home in Las Vegas. We moved to Seattle for a position my husband accepted. It turned out to be totally not what was expected from both of our perspectives. His time is to valuable, so he resigned which was for sure the right thing to do in my opinion too, and we came back to our home in Las Vegas.
Here in Germany the bedroom design is not such a theme. I don't know anyone who has a lot of pillows and things on it. Duvets are not common here. So mostly we have a blanket (especially with animals who love to hold their siesta on the bed) and perhaps two decorative pillows, that's it. If I want to go to bed, I don't want to remove tons of stuff before. It is only a place to sleep, not to look like from a cataloque. This is only my opinion. Curtains are not necessary for darkening here, because we have roller shutters on the outside of the windows. So curtains are more for decoration and must not close completely. I have such fake curtains (but on a rod over the whole window) only because it looks better than without any drape. I agree with you with the themed rooms. Ugh especially maritime bathrooms, if you don't live at a coast.
Everyone likes different things, and in different countries there are of course variations in design and decorating. Of course, I like a highly designed primary bedroom and en-suite bathroom. Mathematically, we spend a great deal of time in a bedroom, so it should be as beautiful as the rest of the rooms in our homes.
@@GarrettLeChic These cultural differencies are so interesting. That's why I've subscribed your channel, so I can learn about styles, trends and design variations outside of my bubble. Of course I have a nice, cozy bedroom (in dark green colours, I love it), but without a lot of decoration on the bed, although my dogs surely would like to hide between the cushions and pillows 🤭.
Can a motif be considered a theme? I love dragonflies so my living room has dragonflies incorporated in the fabric patterns and art pieces so I call it my dragonfly "themed" room.
Good Morning Garrett, It was a total OMG moment for me with the fake drapes followed by bad architectual features and of course the messy bed.. Thank you for such a funny but tackling real design issues episode. And oh for sure am not up for a themed room concept🙃 You have a beautiful weekend!! Love Ramani
👏 Well Said Garrett! Love your luxurious bed! What a good idea to have two duvets with different but co-ordinating duvet covers. I am going to try this on my bed, Thank You for the Idea! 👍🤗😘🇨🇦
💯 in agreement w your comments about beds!!!! Absolutely do not understand the current trend of photographing unmade beds. On many designer blogs, I see beautiful bedrooms with a duvet / comforter just tossed on top of the bed… WTH is up w that. Don’t get it! So definitely 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 to a beautifully made bed.
Yay! Thanks so much for watching. Please take a moment to support the channel and become a subscriber if you haven’t already. Great to have you with us!😊😊😊
Hmm yeaahhhh I am totally guilty of a themed room, I did one about 10 years ago with the blue walls, fish art on the wall and a wooden carved whale lol
i just got a Tempurpedic Smart bed in California King. I had a hard time finding a comforter to fit. Can you help me? Needs to be larger than 94" wide and 108" long.
There is what is known as the palatial king comforter. I have some in my Amazon storefront which is linked in the description section of my videos. Check the measurements of these comforters against the size of your bed.😊😊😊
Garrett, help! I found your link for oversized king duvet insert but I cannot find a cute cover that comes that big! Anyone have any links or advice for oversized king duvet covers?
Okay, but I really want a hobbit hole slash magical forest. I have a california king and a 108x109 blanket BARELY covers the sides. I really want to get 120x120 because YES over sized IS better. And I hate pillows for looks. Pillows don't go on the floor! Gross!
HELP! I want to put curtains up for the purpose of accenting the wall. My wall is 18ft. Do i need to put a curtain rod up that is 18ft. or can I put rods that are a little bit longer than the window?
I appreciate your question. Every specific situation is different. I’d have to see the space and then discuss my opinions with you. If you’d like to book a virtual consultation with me, please go to intro.co/garrettlechic
Okay. . . prepare yourself, and remember that you’ve been warned! I was invited to an acquaintance’s home once. I knew she lived in a double wide manufactured home, but I’ve lived in them a couple of times while building, or in transition, so I don’t judge. (I DO live smack in the middle of tornado alley, and manufactured housing has the UNFORTUNATE propensity to be GONE WITH THE WIND, but that’s for another day.) So, I’m there. Nice home. Very tasteful-then there it was-a full-fledged Corinthian column. You heard correctly. The thing was right smack in the middle of the living room doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. A tiny round topped marble table beside it with photographs of 1950’s street rods on display. Juxtaposition my A$$. Luckily the weather was beautiful, and most of the afternoon festivities were going on outside on her beautiful deck. I went back inside to use the powder room, and it indeed had not been a mirage. That column was just there-from floor to ceiling-DOING NOTHING. To this day it baffles me. To each her own, I suppose.
I’m not a decorator-much less an interior designer-however, I reserve the right to ask pillow choppers to exit my domicile IMMEDIATELY. That’s akin to making the toilet paper roll UNDER instead of OVER, and it SIMPLY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! I so understand your plight, Dear Garrett! There are just certain things up with which we shall not put! 😂
Eeeww the fake drapes! as bad as the flowered short drapes that accompanied really bad valances yuck Do you remember that horrible wall paper that had fake velvet on it? seriously gave me chills!
weird architectural features.... there was a weird half wall between our living room and dining room. across the ENTIRE WALL. so weird. Yes. we tore it down VERY quickly. So SO much better after! The flow made NO sense before- you literally had to walk around it to get anywhere in the house. now... walk through. you know, like a NORMAL room, and flow.
@@g2682 there's a bed, a dresser, a night stand, and a hamper. They sort of go together and the colors are mostly green. It doesn't suggest anything but this is a place to sleep.
Could you do a video on how awful those big old leather recliners are in a formal living room? I'm trying to convince my husband that it's fine in his man cave, but not in my beautiful, tasteful, sitting parlor.
I understand your dilemma Marilyn! It’s a controversial topic. I’ve discussed my dislike in general of recliners unless they are elevated in their look and design. When I discuss this subject I get some blowback that I’m too young to know the value of the comfort recliners bring as one gets older. Again, I’m all for the comfort but why not get the benefits of the recliner and buy one that is beautiful. I’m not going to make a video about recliners especially because I discussed it in previous videos, but perhaps if you booked a virtual consultation with me at intro.co/garrettlechic we could discuss the possibility of moving the recliner and also discuss the possibility of getting a very aesthetic recliner that gives him the comfort of the recliner while being elevated enough to fit in with a formal living space.
About fake drapes, I understand it comes from hotel, who would use them to save cost, having just one foot of fabric each side of the window. Although they usually have sheer drapes full width.
Oh yes!! I DO NOT LIKE the open divisions between spaces that are not load bearing. I think it's because they don't watch THIS CHANNEL where they'd be EDUCATED on how to create areas within rooms using rugs, furniture and placement.
Thanks for the fake drapes comment. I didn't even know that existed. Even if you never plan on closing those drapes, you should still have the rod going all the way across so that you could close them. I needed a good laugh today.
OMG! I hate curtains but I ended up hanging fake drapes. Now I will find a rod that goes all the way across. Still hate curtains and drapes . I mean who likes washing them? 🤷🏼♀️😂
Garrett and everyone, does this one bother anyone but me? I can't stand when people put vases or decor items on top of a stack of books, it just seems too precious and overdone to me. Almost as bad as placing a cup of coffee on a book, books are books, not decor.

I have horses so I’m on equestrian decor limits. If I find something horsey new I like, something has to go. 😝

Love that!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As a Canadian, I would love to stay in your guest room.
Thank you, and thanks for sharing! There always exceptions now and again.😊
weird architectural thing in my house: i have a HUGE area above my front door. its not a niche, or ledge, its 10ft x 10ft with an 8ft ceiling. thats the size of my bedroom growing up! anything i put there would be too small and i read its better to leave it empty than decorate inappropriately, so its empty.
👍👍👍😊😊😊
I did the stupid fake drapes thing and really wish I hadn’t-and I’ve worked in design! I have a very wide window in the room and thought it needed something. I’m going to use the panels but on a much more narrow window where they can actually be closed and function.
There is a boutique hotel in the small city I live in, and every room in it is a completely different theme. One room looks like a library, a two story suite looks like a seaside place, one room is like a room in a palace, nd so on. It’s great and everyone loves it!
That’s a hotel not a home. I think what you are describing could be fun for a visit.
Is there a blue chicken? 💙
@@TDAEON Yes, and three little Junimos.
We have two weird cutouts that were done by the builder. We hope to have a contractor fix them once the economy cools down. Love your advice! The suggestion to size up on the comforter is genius!
Thank you!
SOON

What an excellent video! I now have names for things that bother me, too. I exclaimed out loud when you showed the layered comforters. I will definitely try that when I makeover my bedrooms! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much.
As usual dear Garrett, I agree with everything you say. You are so brilliant at what you do. Love your show and Look forward to it every week. Love from this Australian. ❤

Garret getting gaslighted? shameful!! Love your channel and your advice.

The vase or "vas" lol..(plant holder) next to the lilac sofa, is waaay to small for that plant! Just my opinion..your my fave...Love love!❤

I know I’m weird, but I like my bed to look “undone”. I think when done correctly (high quality sheets, feather down bedding, crisp white pallet) this can look very cool yet inviting
Your video on drapes is very informative - I followed your advice and saved a bunch of money and have a wonderful look that everyone compliments

I read that the first thing you should do is make your bed bc it makes your day headed off in the right direction. My son gets mad but I make sure he makes his bed as well 😂
👍👍👍
Incredible video, like always Garrett!!!!
Glad you enjoyed!
I love your videos, Garrett. You're so entertaining! 😀
Thanks so much!! Glad you are enjoying.
Make it make sense. I get it. Ty
Hello 👋 omg you find that a lot in older homes in P.R. Windows and walls in weird places that made no sense we literally remodeled our house inside and out to the point that no one recognized it anymore in a very good way. Great video as always 😊
That’s awesome! Congrats.

Can we please talk about TVs mounted above a fireplace? Nothing grinds my gears more.
😮haha I have fake windows lol… the rod is the length of the wall…. Extra layers texture’s & sheers…. To give the illusion of a bigger window than the single window …. Am I dated 😢…. Thanks for sharing!!!!
I’m totally supportive of you Nita!
Informative & funny! Garrett you make my day!🖤
Yay!!!😊😊😊

Loved your Fake Drapes rant LOL!
🤣🤣🤣

“Should we check it for bed bugs?” 😂😂😂
Garrett in his villain era!
I have never seen fake drape IRL, just online. I assumed it was an attempt to save money, but now I learn they cost MORE?! Why?
Can a motif be considered a theme? I love dragonflies so my living room has dragonflies incorporated in the fabric patterns and art pieces so I call it my dragonfly "themed" room.
Good Morning Garrett,
It was a total OMG moment for me with the fake drapes followed by bad architectual features and of course the messy bed..
Thank you for such a funny but tackling real design issues episode.
And oh for sure am not up for a themed room concept🙃

👏 Well Said Garrett! Love your luxurious bed! What a good idea to have two duvets with different but co-ordinating duvet covers. I am going to try this on my bed, Thank You for the Idea! 👍🤗😘🇨🇦

💯 in agreement w your comments about beds!!!! Absolutely do not understand the current trend of photographing unmade beds. On many designer blogs, I see beautiful bedrooms with a duvet / comforter just tossed on top of the bed… WTH is up w that. Don’t get it! So definitely 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 to a beautifully made bed.

i just got a Tempurpedic Smart bed in California King.
I could watch 3 hours of this topic lol , As always you're fabulous, thank you ...
Wow, thank you!
Garrett, help! I found your link for oversized king duvet insert but I cannot find a cute cover that comes that big! Anyone have any links or advice for oversized king duvet covers?
There are a great deal of selections off hand for them on Amazon in oversized and super king size.
I don’t like the purple couch room. The colors freeze by blood for some reason.
Okay, but I really want a hobbit hole slash magical forest. I have a california king and a 108x109 blanket BARELY covers the sides. I really want to get 120x120 because YES over sized IS better. And I hate pillows for looks. Pillows don't go on the floor! Gross!
I have such a hard time finding oversized duvets for my king size bed. It's incredibly frustrating.
I have some in my Amazon store listed in the description box of the video.
Thank you
You're welcome
Ooooo villain mode I love

My first attempt at decorating was an apple kitchen. OMFG...
Fake drapes was a new one for me!
Why would this even exist??
You look fabulous in chocolate brown
Thanks so much!
I love you your so on point and hilarious
Yay! Thanks. 😊😊😊
Love that!🤣🤣🤣
Eeeww the fake drapes! as bad as the flowered short drapes that accompanied really bad valances yuck Do you remember that horrible wall paper that had fake velvet on it? seriously gave me chills!
When you asked what was that behind me i turned i saw my dog sleeping in his mattress and he had taked all the blankets away, looks horrible lol
🤣🤣🤣
weird architectural features.... there was a weird half wall between our living room and dining room. across the ENTIRE WALL. so weird. Yes. we tore it down VERY quickly. So SO much better after! The flow made NO sense before- you literally had to walk around it to get anywhere in the house. now... walk through. you know, like a NORMAL room, and flow.
My bedroom is themed bedroom.
Tell more abt the theme
@@g2682 there's a bed, a dresser, a night stand, and a hamper. They sort of go together and the colors are mostly green. It doesn't suggest anything but this is a place to sleep.
I know someone who had a water fountain in the middle of their family room 😂 carpeted family room …..

Friends do still help friends!
That’s the hope!
No drapes for me.
My pleasure!😊😊😊
OMG! I hate curtains but I ended up hanging fake drapes. Now I will find a rod that goes all the way across. Still hate curtains and drapes . I mean who likes washing them? 🤷🏼♀️😂
Many fine or high quality drapes should be professionally cleaned, and not washed in a washing machine.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ummmm . . . Garrett, do you really have an opinion on fake drapes?? ;-)
Garrett and everyone, does this one bother anyone but me? I can't stand when people put vases or decor items on top of a stack of books, it just seems too precious and overdone to me. Almost as bad as placing a cup of coffee on a book, books are books, not decor.
This is the first I've heard of fake drapes. I'd sue for psychological damage if I ever came across such cringe worthy decor.
I had no idea there was such a thing as fake drapes.
This just pisses me off.
How annoying
