I swear I absolutely can not watch a UA-cam video for more than 10 and I am bored. Your's Sir...I am so bummed when they end!! Your content is 🔥 So on point. The plates on the wall, been rocking this look for almost 10 years now and never get tired of it. Might I also add...they are blue and white❤ Love it love you!
Wow, thanks! I just try to create fun videos where I can share the important things I've learned about interior design from being involved with craft for almost 8 years, and getting my college degree in interior design. :)
@@GarrettLeChic I'm agreeing with Tiffany, and also wanted to say that I appreciate how you repeat yourself much less than do some of the other channels. I get it: longer videos, more time for ads, more money made, but it becomes tedious enough for me that I've had to unsub from some channels just because of that. Your style is a breath of fresh air in comparison! : )
@@aMoodWithaView Thanks so much. We feel that around 15 minutes per video is where we want to be. I know the subject well, and I realize my subscribers have other things to do. I like to keep it fun, useful and to the point. Even when we do brand sponsorships we are able to keep the time in the optimal range. I don’t think the majority of viewers have the time or want to watch long drawn out content or fluff. I certainly don’t. Thanks for the comment and your support. 😁😁😁
I will tell you why I adore this video so much. I don’t do design work anymore, and most of my work was as an assistant. But the ones I learned from, worked for were “old money decorators“. Sometimes I get a little bit self-conscious about my house, but deep down I know I that I know what is chic (How’s that for modest?). There are just wonderful things that you can fall back on over and over, and you hit on several of them that I too wish we saw more of. I love our 1927 condo, which I prefer to call “an apartment”, as its layout is reminiscent of a New York “classic six”. (We can all enjoy our delusions!) The apt building next-door in this historic neighborhood was exquisitely restored over a 2-yr period and I was so thrilled to tour it, but my heart sank when I saw all the gray: gray floors, tiles, cabinetry…oh what were they thinking?? Anyway, I sure do enjoy your videos, thank you!
I spent a while doing a ‘grey’ home - needed the change and calm after a divorce but so glad I resisted grey floors and kept warm wood tone! Apart from grey marble subway tiles my house now has much more colour! Every time I see blue Wedgwood I think Garret would love this!! 😀
I couldn’t agree more on the gray tone wood floors. As we look for a house, every time there’s one with gray floors all I can think of is that it’s a trend and will have to be replaced (not a cheap replacement). How did that even become a flooring color?
Agreed! How did ANYTHING gray become such a ghastly trend? Will never forget the first time I saw that color in a decorating space----hope this isn't too catty----years ago on a cover of Martha Stewart Living Magazine which caught my eye at the grocery store. The headline proudly read: Martha's new signature shade for her farmhouse (or something like that) Bedford Gray. Nestled around beautiful green trees/lush flowers, was this (for me) jarring and sterile hue. I cringed, but immediately reasoned how she MUST have been influenced by her (at the time) recent stint in jail; as she had just been released, and was back at work. I'd thought the great domestic doyenne had laid a rare clinker! LOL Never did I think how seemingly everyone in the Western World save myself have gone bonkers for a hue which for me remains forever devoid of warmth. LOL
I looked at an apartment and they were redoing ALL of the apartments with gray flooring and gray walls. Im like, what if I wanted wood tones? I ended up not taking the place.
@@GamerChefGirlie Had the same experience touring an otherwise lovely home I was considering purchasing. The entire flooring space (almost 4000 sq ft) was newly renovated in very costly, very gray ornate tile. The walls were also in that hue, but paint is cheap by comparison, and I would've been okay with changing it. But ripping out all that gray grout and gray tile.....no thanks.
I totally agree. I redid the floors in my entire house last year and it was actually difficult to find floors that weren't either very dark brown or gray. I finally did and I love them. And I still hate gray floors anytime I see them. And everybody I know who has put them in wishes they hadn't.
Where I am, there isn't a lot of natural light coming in.. so we are looking at grey vinyl plank flooring. it does have hints of brown and black in it, but all the other colours in the company that we are doing the flooring in are either way too light and washed out, or a dark brown. I have a seizure disorder, so while I love the lighter flooring, I can't have it. If I get disoriented, I need the contrast to know where my feet are.
I grew up with lions, and tigers, and jaguars, oh my! I never got over it. Ceramics, I mean. When I do find them, $$$. My friend sent me a picture of a lamp she was considering at her favorite vintage store, and all I could see, buried in the corner, was my darling, Savanah (I name my favorite pieces, and, yes I know, she’s Siberian). She was less than most ceramic tigers, and before you could say “Dorthy,” I had her home gracing my mantel. I love her, pet her, and have given her her own spotlight. I wish I could send you a photo (you: I love it for you, sniff!) but I put it on my profile pic 👈 just in case you own an electron microscope and you can see her.
Greco-Roman accessories impart a classic, old-world elegance and that gets a big thumbs-up from me. Shag carpet only belongs on the business end of a dust mop as far as I'm concerned. Always a treat when you post, Garrett. Sage advice and snarky, tongue-in-cheek shade. Yum!
I LOVE the fact you said "Stained Glass" and "Pastels" I love pastel colours, I have since childhood. They add a touch of colour without being overbearing and taking over the space. The dated trend I hope stays in the past is shag. I remember my Mom clearly being upset with feeling like it needed to be vacuumed 24/7.
Garrett, you are so right about the diamond pillow layout! I love chandeliers too, I have two venetian glass chandeliers and I love that the crystals just drip with elegance and it's my mission to keep them sparkling. I adore roses, peonies, and cherry blossoms. I also love orchids but they are so hard to grow! I agree plates on the wall are very special and ties your beautiful china into your home décor! I am going to have to replace my kitchen floors in the very near future from these old square porcelain tiles and I just am not sure where to go, I love marble but I know it breaks so easily since I had it in my previous home. The rest of the house has real hardwood so I need something in the kitchen that sort of breaks it up and gives it a high end feel. My pastel right now is an iced mauve. I am doing my upstairs master bath in Hint of Mauve with white trim and cupboards which I am so excited about. I hope it turns out good! Hope you are doing great! Have a happy day!
My brother had a cobalt blue, medium green and pale sea green shag carpet in his room in the 70's, wall to wall carpet. Yes, three colors in one rug. Then his room walls were a pale sea green. It was nasty. My other brother had cobalt blue (all one color) shag with bright yellow walls and cobalt blue trim around the windows and doors. Also a color nightmare. I have a stained glass square-pyramid lampshade on a bedside table lamp, and it's Mission/Arts & Crafts, so fairly timeless. Tulips are one of my FAVORITE flowers. My bridal bouquet was large white tulips and peach roses 20+ years ago. I even made a special trip to visit Keukenhof Gardens in 2014 at the end of daffodil season and beginning of tulip season (got to enjoy both!), and it was GLORIOUS! If you love tulips, I highly recommend in 2nd week of April, travel to the Netherlands and visit Keukenhof Gardens. It's tulip heaven!
You are so right on those gray floors, and a touch of lavender, love it. I like the dark rich brown tones of cabinets. Not black, not the reddish mahogany tones, but just a dark chocolate brown, a bit of gloss, tall cabinets, not the 30 inch high. But I think with the right lighting kitchens with those kind of cabinets look gorgeous to me, maybe white tone countertop, but not granite. I have never liked white cabinets. But this is me and that's what I like for me. Haha.
Your tips are phenomenal!Chef's kiss, minimal is Sharp.Grecco. Gray wash frames in my bathroom, floor is wood boathouse brown. I mix brown, gray, black, brown with different metals. I like pastels, maybe a pop on my couch pillows. Mix mix but not too much. I enjoyed this. Shag in past. I love tuftedness and Chesterfield forever. ❣️
Wow that atomic chandelier over the pink round base table at 13.33 that's AMAZING. Grey love that you hate it everywhere too, slate, storm, mist, charcoal, fog, smoke whatever just reminds me of dingey cold days...
On the topic of pillows I entirely agree with no diagonal…and a trend I also hate is the karate chopped pillows. It can look okay if very subtle, but oftentimes it just looks ridiculous and like you’re trying WAY too hard. Also, as an allergy sufferer, “shag” anything makes me sneeze just looking at it!
@@mulliganstew72 honestly it is a sellers market right now. We moved last August and when we sold our home, my realtor told me don’t do anything. I just focused on giving the house a really good cleaning and I decluttered about half of everything we owned. Some I donated and the rest I packed and put it in storage since we were moving anyway. We sold our house in one day for over asking. When we were looking for houses also, we did not focus on the cosmetic appearance of what we were looking at. We focused on if the homes seemed well built and had everything we were looking for and functional.
You are so welcome Louise! I'm glad you are enjoying our content, and getting my degree in interior design has been a big asset for me. Thanks for watching, and pushing the subscribe button and supporting our channel. :)
OMG, Garrett! You are hilarious! What a fun way to talk about dated items! Everything you mentioned as dated just looks so "tired" in the pics. BTW, I love the works of Chihuly and only wish I could afford one of his beautiful glass installations in my home! Your Jasperware with the tulips is beautiful! And you're so right about the grey floors. Something that is dated and I love it anyway is a curved archway or doorway. Everything has gotten rather boxy in homes these days, and I miss the elegance and, okay, dare I say femininity, that these graceful arches create in our spaces. I LOVED this fun and informative video, Garrett! 😍🤗😍 Colleen
I love your classy style and advice. Just found your video s on utube. I watch all of then, the older ones also. Here in South Africa everybody is painting all their furniture, even beautiful indigenous wooden furniture. Auch!! Love your dogs! Susan South Africa 🇿🇦
Thanks so much! Welcome to the channel Susan. It's great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. Please spread the word about us in South Africa! I'm glad you are enjoying our videos. Much more to come. :)
I collected over the years Nippon hand painted plates. They are different sizes, 3”-6”, and are all different scenes. It’s like taking a mini vacation to look at them, each one is telling a different story. I love stained glass lamps and have them but you do need additional lighting with them. Thanks for the decorating ideas. Great video as always.
The thing I remember most about shag carpet, from being a kid and being a lot closer to the floor, was the stink! Shag will always make me think of that "beer can used as an ashtray" smell. Yuck! Thanks again for a fun video!
Back in the late 70's early 80's, my mom used to make me vacuum our shag rug to make the perfect lines. We didn't have "the rake." So satisfying at the time
Shag and rake my mom had that it was green! Stained glass for decor....a lamp, brilliant!pillows need updating. Chandeliers hmm, small over my toilet maybe. Grass pompass, have to look at that.Tulips are gorgeous, simple and elegant, just a couple. Don't like plates, hard to keep clean. (Collection good idea)Tall floral in middle of room, good idea on console, put one in the corner of counter in bathroom.
Lordy, Garrett! I saw the title, and thought, "What?! How can he just come right out and say that?" Then I realized you were talking about *decorating trends*, not *me*! 😉😘
Thank you so much for your channel. I am a glass person and learned to do stained glass as a hobby. My home is a 1927 bungalow in New Orleans which is unique here. I think I own every FLW style stained glass light fixture from Quoizel, Fredrick Raymond and a couple from HD. One thing: older glass used lead came until Tiffany introduced the copper foil technique. Tiffany style doesn't work in my house because it's too busy. I tried and ended up giving the lamp it away. So keep your videos coming, we love them.
I'm calling it "pompous grass" from now on because that's what it is! Thanks for all the great content. I'm a new subscriber learning a lot from your channel.
Hi from Canada! I love Art Nouveau stained-glass, Greco-Roman inspired decor, your beautiful Jasperware vase, crystal and blown glass. The chandelier at 4:10 is the chandelier of my dreams!!! I absolutely dislike pampas grass, dried flowers, dead branches going all over the place and fake plants! However I'm not judging people who like them! I grew-up in a house filled with dried flowers, peacock feathers and giant silk flowers! Some of those flowers were so big, they looked like monsters ready to snatch you LOL! Loved your video and take care!🌟💗🌷💖🌷💖🌷💗🌟
You out did yourself today, Garrett! Lovely video. Just wondering, what's such a classy guy like you doing with faux tulips?!! You can get two gorgeous bunches of tulips at Trader Joe's for a song and they last for days! Love your channel.
Garrett...I just love your videos and hope there is a second one on this topic! I love traditional dining rooms and people seem to think dining rooms are unnecessary and old-fashioned. I just love beautiful wood dining furniture. What I can't stand is GRAY! Especially a room with gray everything. I, myself, need COLOR!!!! Thank you for this video!! Thank you for this video.
Your rant about Floridian diagonal pillows had me giggling. And tulips are my favorite cut flower. I love them in an apricot color. Okay, there was so much here I agree with, but to your question: I am so with you on the gray wood floors. They look cold and unnatural. We put in bamboo floors and I am loving the lighter, warm tone of it. The outdated trend I love is real wood kitchen cabinets. Ours are cherry wood in a mid-tone stain and I think they are beautiful. I am just a huge fan of natural wood.
I managed a small boutique hotel in Jamaica and I couldn't stop housekeeping from putting accent pillows in that diamond shape. There were many reasons I left the job, but I have to admit the pillow thing may have sent me over the edge.
I love more detached cabinetry in the kitchen. I like having the option to move an island or turn the countertop. With freestanding kitchen fruniture, I can do this.
The pillow thing CRACKED ME UP! My husband tries to help and he “fixes” the pillows on the couch or chair when he gets up by turning it on it’s corner ….I see the pillows and get chills and RUN to actually fix them! Then I do a tiny bend in the middle ..I call it the Garret Karate Chop … so not murderous, but just enough!
Your style and advice always resonates with me. I'm a traditionalist with a love for antiques and vintage, but I don't want to come off "dated." I really liked your idea to hang plate collections on the wall. Yes, yes yes! I find myself drawn to plates as art and have started a small collection. I found a lovely set just the other day at my local antique mall that feature pictures of different southern historic old homes. I think they are little textural works of art and I've been thinking of hanging them on the wall in my dining room. Your video just inspired me to definitely do it! Thanks for all your great videos and advice. Love your style!!
Thanks so much Beth! I try to cover many different design styles, and provide information that is applicable and useful regardless of style. I don't want the channel to be about my style or me pushing my style, or just regurgitating trends of the week from social media.
Great video. One dated decor I love is MCM furniture. I flip over furniture at Goodwill and if it’s stamped Mercman and in good shape, I have to have it, and also I love Chromecraft tables and chairs for the comfort. I like both the modern and vintage. I can spot a set instantly by the great craftsmanship. Modern decor I dislike is Farmhouse. It’s been done to death already and a little goes a long way. Hate the Rae Dunn stuff too. I know what a cookie jar is, a mug, and a cream pitcher without bold ugly font telling me.
Garrett, love tuning into your videos. Entertaining and educational. There is one trend in decor that I neither understand nor like. Perhaps you can address and explain the concept of putting books on a book shelf backwards (so the pages are showing rather than the spine). I love browsing books (yes, in my friends homes) and when they are all backwards that is impossible. In addition, it looks so bland, don’t you think?!
Thanks so much! I agree with your feelings on books, and have spoke about that in a few videos already. Please take a moment to support the channel by subscribing if you haven’t already. I appreciate it!😊😊😊
Nailed it on the stained glass not being the main source of light (especially in a craftsman...) The corner pillow makes very unhappy! Yes! Blown glass chandelier (not a sentence but so excited)! You are so amazing! Thank you for compiling all of these fantastic ideas. Wonderful content!
I swear you are the absolute best Garrett!! I almost fell over the subway tracks laughing at you talking about the tired girl on the vessel after playing with Linus and Cornelius!!!🤣🤣🤣
Totally agree with everything you said only I didn’t know that putting pillows on the corners was a thing. 👎🏻 I’m over the whole gray room. It was definitely over done.
🏆 This has been one of my favorites from you ever, Garrett , and happen to agree with you on them all. Those pillows, 🤮! That large branch-y arrangement on coffee table would have poked my eyeballs out by now. 😳 Oh my, your Jasperware vase is simply stunning, and loved the humorous description of its characters. 😂 Sorry, but at the moment, I can’t think of a dated trend I adore other than what you’ve covered here …. but this video deserves a “Bravo!” from me. ⭐️🙌🏼⭐️ Til the next one, y’all have a fab weekend! 😎
I have always loved wall plates .... I have Victorian hand painted ones with flowers , birds and butterflies in my dinning room and two in my bedroom. My home is the Traditional English style so they fit right in, look great and do not look dated. I think people should take a look at Wall plates as they are very beautiful in the right spot! I love those Wedgwood plates of yours too !! I do look forward to seeing your doggies Garrett :)
Love stained glass. When I was in my teens and 20s I used to go to the Chrysler Musem of Art in Norfolk almost daily. It has one of the largest Tiffany glass collections in the US. They also had a Alphonse Mucha just hidden among some furniture which really, a hidden gem.
Thanks for another good one! I would like to submit a topic for possible discussion - and that is mixing patterns. I have a Persian rug that dominates the living room and accessorizing around that rug is problematic (including upholstery patterns). Already using your advice to keep the color scheme consistent but additional advice would be nice. Thank you!
Great suggestion! I've mentioned mixing patterns in videos, and also did a video last year on Mixing Design Styles. However, I will most likely do a segment of a video in the future to discuss mixing patterns further. Thanks for watching, and supporting the channel by subscribing. :)
Great tutorial! I was happy to see your ideas with the plates. My friend has a collection of tacky Danbury Mint plates (maybe 12) all cherubs...hanging on one wall and they are awful...I guess if plates are done right they add a real value. Another thing I CAN NOT STAND is the overstuffed recliner ( bonus ugly points for built in cup holder and remote pocket) Got a good laugh at the shag rug rake!!! Thanks again for a great share
Oh Garrett, I love your sense of humor! I chuckled a couple of times, 'reminds me of a timeshare' and then pampas grass, never for me! As for the long stems in the middle of the room reminds me of the tall display of bamboo in the '80s. No, just no!
I related to your comment about not being attracted to yellow as that is my least favorite color too. However, I chose a home that is painted creamy yellow both outside and in! It just seems to make my 1950's ranch seem fresh and bright, and balances all my darker woods and cool-toned blue-and-white accessories and fabrics. Go figure!
My son's first house was a small, older, cottage style, with original dark wood flooring. The previous owners had the living room, dining room, and kitchen painted yellow. When he bought it, he was certain he would change the paint color ASAP, but it didn't take long for that yellow to really start growing on him so he never changed out the paint color for the five years he owned it. It did look exceptionally good with those dark wood floors. Very warm and inviting.
Everybody loves a pastel! 💜 I bought a house that had a room with mustard shag rug, wood paneled walls, and avocado window treatments. It was a vibe- just not mine!
I never had that "not so fresh Daytona time share" look, thankfully! LMAO! I love muted/grayed pastel shades, if that makes sense. Just a wee bit of gray in the color mix makes it look sophisticated. I changed my bedding for my birthday this year, and switched the teals and rust for slightly muted teals, greens, and blues and a hint of clay rose, and I am in love with it. Graying out the shade seems to make it more luxe. Maybe it's just me, lol.
I have a beautiful sky light with stained glass in our kitchen ceiling. It looks beautiful at night and you are right, there’s not much light coming thru it, but the rest of the kitchen is very lighted.
Thanks so much for your helpful videos! I love how much you focus on function, upkeep and reality as part of home design. In the past I always felt that interior design wasn't something I could get into because so many designs look like nightmares to live in or clean. I moved into my first condo in August and I've been working on my space with your tips ever since. Thinking about the functionality of the space first, then architectural lines in the space, then the emotion I want to evoke. Doing this has allowed me to make bold choices that are to my taste, but also feel "designed" in a way none of my previous places have. Best of all, I've been able to accomplish a lot on a small budget by being patient and looking out for the high quality items I want at estate sales and other second hand sources. My bedroom is coming together as the oasis I envisioned and it's helping me conquer my life long sleep issues to have such a calm, serene space dedicated to rest. Thanks so much!!!!!
Hey Garrett another lovely video 😍!!! Can you please make an video on how to elevate the bedroom with edroom.sets...I know...bedroom sets are not curative....but. just to play safe we went for it...than being non cohesive... Please give us some tips on woode ....bedroom sets how to make more interesting....bedroom with it...thank you in advance!!
Thanks so much! I would eventually break up the set, and use pieces of it in other rooms and then add other pieces to the bedroom that are different, but work with what you have. You could also bring in interesting decor pieces and lamps, fine curtains and bedding to add more interest and elevation to the room.
Garrett, I had to laugh when you said, what do I look like brushing a shag rug...lol...I cant even picture it...yuck shag rugs do hold in a lot of dirt....I have natural hard wood floors that I just love! Thank so much for all the great tips and advice.
I agree with you about the wood! We rent our place and we have wood cabinets. I was looking on pinterest for some ideas on updating our space, and every post I saw involved painting the cabinets! I honestly think that's such a bad idea. It takes out that natural element that I love.
Yes I would not paint either especially if the landlord hasn’t approved. Here is a link to video I did last year for renters, maybe it could give some ideas for you: Renter Friendly Decor Tips And Hacks | DIY Removable Upgrades ua-cam.com/video/CXM72bUkeXg/v-deo.html
Garret, you are great! I love all your posts, I found you like two weeks ago and it's amazing! Your are a professional I love all! I am an architect and I just enjoy everything you have a very sophisticated gusto! Love 💞
Great vid, Garrett! Love that room @13:34 with the transparent room divider behind the sofa. I've never seen one like that. I dig the way it serves the purpose of creating a separate space, but it doesn't close off the visual real estate. Also, that chandelier is quite the statement! Your Greco Roman vase is absolutely beautiful!
LOVE the Jasperware…dislike the faux tulips in that magnificent piece, sorry. I am not a fan of faux. That’s me. We have a natural stone wall of Israeli Stone, which is white, gray and some pinkish tones throughout, and chose a grey floor. Never regretted my choice. I do have a white fur area rug to ground the furniture…(yes, the up keep is horrendous). The dated trend that won’t go away: I HATE recliner sofas! The cup holders 😵💫…the pillowy arms🤯. Just please make them go away. They make me feel like I am in an AMC Theater without the buttered popcorn, (which is a very sad thought). But I do love a beautiful comfy reading chair and ottoman and don’t spare customizing the upholstery! Enjoying the channel very much ❤️
I adore the medallion that surrounds the chandelier but i am not sure if it is dated or not, just do not see them much ? however,! I love them. It probably is dated as self is quite old... I love your channel and love your vibe.
Thanks so much! No they are not dated. You actually see them in fine homes around the world. I see them in places like Beverly Hills CA, and Manhattan NY all the time. :)
Yep. I am not a fan of gray stained wood floors at all. Also, I love that plate with the tree you featured. I never considered plates on the walls but I love the idea.
One "dated" decor item I love is rich colored wood cabinets in the kitchen. I just cannot hang in a sterile white environment. One that needs to GO AWAY is rattan and wicker everything, especially light fixtures. What a dusting nightmare. I am old enough to remember the 70s and 80s and it was ugly then.
Yes, love wood cabinets.Guess we are around the same age, hate dusting wicker too. I live in Ikealand, if your home is less than 50 years old, the cabinets are that IKEA laminate.
Couldn't agree more on rattan and wicker. I love a natural texture, but when your whole house is just wicker and rattan it just looks awful. It needs to be used as seasoning and not the main flavor.
Beautiful wood is never dated, I don’t care what anyone says. My new house has painted wood cabinets, which are just meh (you know it’s not real wood). I miss my last home, which had carved maple cabinets.
They also make a great stained glass window film you can get from amazon, Home depot and Lowes.. if you're not sure and its renter friendly and removable. Why do pampas grass when you can do tall cherry blossom limbs and peacock feathers.... works in my space!!!..lol
*Plates on the Wall* . I would say my style is vintage-rustic-cottage. I designed the gallery wall in my dining room to have spaces for three decorative plates and I swap them out depending on the season. Also, I feel I have been *LeChic* influenced because I went with navy and faded denim blue for my color pop for spring/summer 2022. Thank you Garrett.
Hi Garrett! I had to buy a new fridge lately… and it seems white fridges in modern style (ie freezer at the bottom, not the top) are out of style?! I ended up getting a dark stainless steel look but it’s made a big ‘shadow’ in my space 🤷♀️ love the videos! I’ve been wondering about your vase too, nice to see it up closer! X
Question: a lot of home decor places recommend and like a lot of natural light but what if you’re nocturnal or do shift work? How can you make blackout curtains look good while blocking out all that pesky light?
If it were me, I'd have custom made high quality black out drapes (often pre-made just don't seem to be really great at blacking out the light), that are triple the width of the window so they look dense and lush.
I know people who install beautiful drapes over black out white ones, they are installed as a single unit, opening and closing together, much like a shower liner and a beautiful, tender shower curtain are hung together.
I'm sure there will be a lot of hate towards this "dated" decorating idea, but when it comes to dated furniture... DRESSERS. I HATE big dressers. Now, smaller dressers or highboys are one thing, but I'm talking about the enormous 12-drawer units that take up an entire wall--plus their attached mirrors. Some of our possessions need to be in drawers, especially in homes where there isn't a lot of closet space--we don't fancy hanging our underwear in pouches on the back of a door with a dollar-store hanging piece--but, more often than not, a big dresser is little more than a heavy dust collector and a key spot for both open (a messy dresser top) and secret (stuffed in a drawer) hoarding. "Where do I put this?" Stick it in the drawer. "I don't have a place to hang this!" Stick it in a drawer. "I'm not in the mood to fold this!" Stick it in a drawer. "As long as things aren't out and lying around and messy, so it's all right!" No. No, it's not. I'm sorry, but it is just wasted space for a piece of furniture that is difficult to move and even more difficult to keep organized.
Love your channel! I'm in the process of redoing a bathroom and you gave me so much to think about as I made my choices of flooring, paint, vanity, etc. You helped me so much - especially with not cheaping out with "faux", so thanks!😃
That first photo of the dining room in the blown glass chandelier segment-OMG! Everything about it is wonderful! Where is it from? I want to see the rest of the house.❤️
Hello 👋 This video made my morning, your facial expressions was everything! Lol loved it 😊 I love the plates on the wall, I actually have plates on my wall hung in a certain pattern and it’s one of my favorite things, but man I’m so tempted to do it in another room, but I don’t want it to be an overkill 😬
Thanks Garrett, enjoyed watching as usual. You always give me tips that help improve my space, things I'd never think of. I'll go fix the diamonds on my sofa to squares now ;)

Anyway, I sure do enjoy your videos, thank you!
A dated home trend that I love is a brick fire place. I have been tempted in the past to paint it white or black, but have resisted. I love brick.
completely agree!!! i love my brick fireplace it adds a lot of warmth
Wow! Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
😊😊😊
That grass is a dust collector and also LOOKS like backup dusters!
Haha.
Thanks so much! Also, thank you for sharing. :)
i love the 'ceramic tile with the flip flops...' Great video
Thanks so much Susan!😀😀😀
Your tips are phenomenal!Chef's kiss, minimal is Sharp.Grecco. Gray wash frames in my bathroom, floor is wood boathouse brown. I mix brown, gray, black, brown with different metals. I like pastels, maybe a pop on my couch pillows. Mix mix but not too much. I enjoyed this. Shag in past. I love tuftedness and Chesterfield forever. ❣️
Thanks so much, and thank you for watching and pushing the subscribe button to support our channel. I appreciate it!:)
I cannot understand the appeal of the "Karate chop" in the pillows! Just fluff them up, people!
you took the words out of my mouth. Hate the "karate chop"!
I love dark wood tones. I know it’s considered dated but I think it looks more expensive than white and grey everything.
Gray-washed wood: 💯 agree. Preach! Not everyone is ready for a beige comeback but, I am.
Your ideas are unique and different from so many other décor videos out there. I like your style. Thank you!
😍🤗😍 Colleen
Thanks so much Colleen! :)
Lol 😂 flip flops on the tile 😂 hilarious ❤❤❤❤
In 1968, my family bought a double wide mobile home in BFE. My parents chose avocado green shag carpet , which did, indeed, come with a rake.
Thanks for sharing, and for pushing the subscribe button and supporting the channel!
I love old good plates on the wall and u r the first person who talk about it like 2 floor cristal chandeliers for the dining room
Lordy, Garrett! I saw the title, and thought, "What?! How can he just come right out and say that?"
Then I realized you were talking about *decorating trends*,
not *me*!

I've been considering plates on my dining room wall for a while now and you've given me the confidence I've been needing to go for it. Thank you!
I'm calling it "pompous grass" from now on because that's what it is! Thanks for all the great content. I'm a new subscriber learning a lot from your channel.
Welcome to the channel Kimberly! It’s great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. I’m glad you are enjoying our content. 😊😊😊
Thanks Fabienne! Nice to hear from you. :)
I love my plate collection, they are antique from Belgium featuring Napleon in battle.
You out did yourself today, Garrett! Lovely video. Just wondering, what's such a classy guy like you doing with faux tulips?!! You can get two gorgeous bunches of tulips at Trader Joe's for a song and they last for days! Love your channel.
my new decorating mantra is WWGD - what would Garrett do? Best decor advice and insight videos I have ever run across!
Thanks so much Melinda! I truly appreciate your compliment. :)
Thanks so much! I'm sure we will have a similar video with new likes and dislikes in the future. :)
😀😀😀
Just spit my coffee out laughing...it gives me timeshare in Florida! 🤣
I managed a small boutique hotel in Jamaica and I couldn't stop housekeeping from putting accent pillows in that diamond shape. There were many reasons I left the job, but I have to admit the pillow thing may have sent me over the edge.
Thanks for sharing!
I love more detached cabinetry in the kitchen. I like having the option to move an island or turn the countertop. With freestanding kitchen fruniture, I can do this.
Great video. I love the main message of not falsifying natural materials. Whether it’s older art or natural wood floors.
Thanks so much!
Thats funny! The pups say hi to Auggie. :)
I have a collection of Fornasetti plates that I have hung in my dining room. They look stunning juxtaposed to the modern black walls.
I have grey wood plank look porcelain tile in a narrow bathroom. I added a warm runner and it made a world of difference.
Agree on the gray floor. Something dated that I love? Those glass block walls from the seventies.
Thanks for watching, and pushing that subscribe button and supporting the channel Mirelle!
Thanks so much, and thanks for sharing Diana! :)
Oh, I so agree with you on the diagonally placed throw pillows on the couch. Looks like the lobby of a cheap hotel. Ugh!!!
I appreciate it!😊😊😊
Nailed it on the stained glass not being the main source of light (especially in a craftsman...)
The corner pillow makes very unhappy!
Yes! Blown glass chandelier (not a sentence but so excited)!
You are so amazing! Thank you for compiling all of these fantastic ideas. Wonderful content!
Thanks so much Lindsey!
I swear you are the absolute best Garrett!! I almost fell over the subway tracks laughing at you talking about the tired girl on the vessel after playing with Linus and Cornelius!!!🤣🤣🤣
Thanks so much Donna! I'm so glad the videos bring you joy and laughter. We need that in the world right now!
@@GarrettLeChic you are seriously funny . That's one of the things I love about your delivery!!
Thanks so much Karen! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. New video coming this Sunday at 10am PST. :)
I would like to see more french decor. Not overdone, but beautiful accent pieces incorporated into modern furnishings.
Agree! Please, Garrett!
I love your Greco-Roman motif vase. It's gorgeous on its own, but with the green and white tulips it's phenomenal.
Thanks so much!
Yet another great video Garrett!! One of my favorite dated decor items is hanging plates on a wall.
Thanks so much!
I love the Tarkays behind you!
Thank you!
I agree with people overdosing on grey. I like grey with a colour to make it pop. I also love pastel - my whole house is pastel blues, which I love.
Garrett you are hilarious, "me taking a selfie" 🤣🤣 dated trend that has to go is grey floors and furniture, so cold😬!
Thanks so much! The pups will continue to make regular appearances.:)
Love stained glass. When I was in my teens and 20s I used to go to the Chrysler Musem of Art in Norfolk almost daily. It has one of the largest Tiffany glass collections in the US. They also had a Alphonse Mucha just hidden among some furniture which really, a hidden gem.
You just made my morning! So refreshing
So glad!
I love window swag... with the fringe and the metallic rope pulls. It's very rococo and I'm all about that 18th century French look.
The glare in beginning lol
Lol! IK,R? Few can deliver attitude like Garrett. :D
You are very welcome Lynn!
Oh Garrett, I love your sense of humor! I chuckled a couple of times, 'reminds me of a timeshare' and then pampas grass, never for me! As for the long stems in the middle of the room reminds me of the tall display of bamboo in the '80s. No, just no!
We have original stained glass in our master bathroom in our 1927 home. It's such a treasure!
Wow! Sounds beautiful. :)
Another great video! I’m here for that Garret LeChic sass!
Yay! Thanks. 😀😀😀
Yes, that would not be my vibe either!
Very early 70s lol
I love that for the previous owner… 👀
I never had that "not so fresh Daytona time share" look, thankfully! LMAO! I love muted/grayed pastel shades, if that makes sense. Just a wee bit of gray in the color mix makes it look sophisticated. I changed my bedding for my birthday this year, and switched the teals and rust for slightly muted teals, greens, and blues and a hint of clay rose, and I am in love with it. Graying out the shade seems to make it more luxe. Maybe it's just me, lol.
Hi Pumibel! Glad you enjoyed the video.:)
Thanks for sharing, and I'm glad you are enjoying our videos!
You are so right about blown glass light fixtures. They are amazing! The light fixtures I hate the most are boob lights.
Hey Garrett another lovely video 😍!!!
Can you please make an video on how to elevate the bedroom with edroom.sets...I know...bedroom sets are not curative....but. just to play safe we went for it...than being non cohesive...
Please give us some tips on woode ....bedroom sets how to make more interesting....bedroom
with it...thank you in advance!!
Thanks so much! I would eventually break up the set, and use pieces of it in other rooms and then add other pieces to the bedroom that are different, but work with what you have. You could also bring in interesting decor pieces and lamps, fine curtains and bedding to add more interest and elevation to the room.
@@GarrettLeChic thank you so much for your quick reply...that was soo helpful..I will definitely try that all your ideas...💐🥰!!!
Garrett, I had to laugh when you said, what do I look like brushing a shag rug...lol...I cant even picture it...yuck shag rugs do hold in a lot of dirt....I have natural hard wood floors that I just love! Thank so much for all the great tips and advice.
You are so welcome! 😊😊😊
Here is a link to video I did last year for renters, maybe it could give some ideas for you: Renter Friendly Decor Tips And Hacks | DIY Removable Upgrades

Garret, you are great! I love all your posts, I found you like two weeks ago and it's amazing! Your are a professional I love all! I am an architect and I just enjoy everything you have a very sophisticated gusto! Love 💞
Welcome to the channel Marianella! It's so great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. I'm happy you are enjoying our content! :)
Glad you liked it!
Your facial expression is so contagious 😍 ! Great video ❤❤❤
Thanks so much!
Enjoying the channel very much ❤️
The sectionals and couches with built in cup holders! Awful, awful, awful.
Love your design tips! Really love❤ Linus!
Thanks so much! He's a very sweet and spoiled boy.
Honestly, I don't think rich colored woods are dated in kitchens. You see them all the time in fine homes around the world. :)
I agree. I look at mine after waxing them to a beautiful shine and am glad I never jumped on the paint them gray or white trend.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video.
😊😊😊
So glad you are enjoying and it’s of help!
Totally agree with the shag rugs!! U have to vacuum it 100 times !!!

I love using plates on the wall. The white plates that you showed in the video remind me of the ones from Paris - Astier de Villatte.
That first photo of the dining room in the blown glass chandelier segment-OMG! Everything about it is wonderful! Where is it from? I want to see the rest of the house.❤️
I love Murano chandeliers! I found some beautiful ones on Etsy I'm trying to find a spot for...
Thanks so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. 😀😀😀
Thanks Garrett, enjoyed watching as usual. You always give me tips that help improve my space, things I'd never think of. I'll go fix the diamonds on my sofa to squares now ;)
Yay!
