    The lava is definitely flowing faster and is more fluid and really looks cool😋

    The comments from non Hawaii residents are so ridiculous. All this lava eruption/activity is happening in a lava zone...which people (90% visitors who moved here) bought for pennies on the dollar because of its zoning. Since I was born, we've been dealing with smog/sulfur dioxide, lava erruptions, etc. Its a way of life and doesn't really impact anyone else outside the lava zone/south east ridge. People in Hilo (largest city) and Kona (2nd largest) and every town/small city in between are going on with their normal days. Matter of fact, there's more people trying to come in to sightsee. This aint new to us. Its new to you.

      I'm a non Hawaii resident, in fact I live in Europe but have been spending time on the Big Island.
      You're answer is very much to the point!!
      (I had a very good friend living in the Kona surrounding (Kealakekua), he has been past away some 14 years ago but I still feel bitten by the way of life.) Mahalo to you.

      Mugshot Marley it's not the eruption itself that scares me, look up Helina Slump, and then compare its position with the new fissures that are opening up, sort of like a dotted line, running along the fault that boarders Helina, if she slips... way more loss of life than a few possible suffocation victims from sulfur dioxide

    Early in this eruption event the lava was very viscous. The most recent lava flow is obviously far less viscous. This means the lava from the most recent flows is much newer lava from deeper in the earth. For the layman the early lava flows were much thicker. The newest lava is much more fluid indicating new lava and capable of flowing farther and moving faster.

      Listen to what she said 1:00 -- the new lava came down from the summit, not deeper in the earth.

    • @al8603cl
      @al8603cl 6 років тому +6

      Sleepy, the lava in the volcano has been draining now for two weeks. The level in the crater has been dropping steadily to the point where they believe it has dropped near or below the water level. If lava is coming out of the summit it is NEW lava as their assertion that the existing lava has dropped/drained near or below the water level. Furthermore, the newest fissures lava is far less viscous that the lava from the initial eruptions. That alone tells you it is new lava from deeper in the earth.

    • @brendanh8978
      @brendanh8978 6 років тому +3

      The lava at the summit is the "fresh" lava, if I understand correctly. It comes directly up from the magma chamber to the crater. Whatever happened to drain the crater and divert the lava to the rift zone simply redirected it.
      Another USGS person in a previous video said the original, viscous lava was chemically the same as lava that had erupted in that area in a 1950s eruption. I'm a layman, but the picture I got was that there was "old" lava in the rift zone, and the diversion of the lava from the main crater into the rift zone first pushed out that old lava, and now the new stuff is coming out.
      Now why the magma decided to drain out of the crater and into the rift zone, that is a mystery to me. Maybe the original 6.something earthquake caused it?

    Not to mention her stating earthquake activity had diminished well since 1 Hawaii time there has been 11 earthquakes 2.5 magnitude and higher anywhere from 2km to 7km away at the surface.

    • @sleepy314
      @sleepy314 6 років тому +1

      That is diminished activity.

    • @jacobcoolest
      @jacobcoolest 6 років тому +5

      Thats just measuring 2.5 or higher over 20 total in the same time frame just at Volcano. There has been a pattern. Yesterday had lower volume but today it shot back up especially in the last 4 hours. I'd hardly call that diminished.

    • @ladykiri42
      @ladykiri42 6 років тому

      Jacob Hammond, we don't even notice earthquakes of less than 3. They hardly even are felt until they reach at least 4. Yes, there are a lot of them happening at this time, but no significant ones, since the 6.9 a week ago or so.

    • @brendanh8978
      @brendanh8978 6 років тому

      Set the time frame to the last week. There was an uptick in earthquakes at the summit up until the phreatic eruptions, when they slowed down. They will probably ramp back up before the next phreatic eruption, which they are saying is likely. That was the eruption that spit out the ash and rock.

    • @jacobcoolest
      @jacobcoolest 6 років тому

      Just because they don't feel anything doesn't mean they aren't there. A 3.0 and lighter are light earthquakes yes but the amount is what I'm stressing. Just because you at not feel them means absolutely nothing. The meters feel them which means movement below the surface. I'd hope you wouldn't feel them because that would mean you were standing at the crater or very close to it

    Meanwhile on the "safe" mainland we've had more kids killed by another kid than this volcano has hurt in the past 25 years. But everybody in Hawaii has to "get out now". Where they gonna go - Santa Fe, Texas? Parkland maybe? But let's get condescending about Hawaii.

    • @ladykiri42
      @ladykiri42 6 років тому

      Z Riley, your comment about being able to afford to live in Hawaii, therefore all here would be 100% insured, is just simply wrong. There are many who live in Hawaii who are most definitely NOT wealthy. Also, in the case of an entire home being lost to lava, NO insurance ever covers *everything*. If you've ever been through, or known someone who has been through something this serious and complete, you would know that to even receive any sort of recompense from an insurance company, the claimant must first list *every* thing they lost, give when it was purchased or received, what the item's value was initially, and after being used for a length of time.. all of this must be listed out in the manner specified by the insurance company. Almost always if a house is covered, not everything in it is listed specifically. In other words the person claiming must figure out depreciation for everything they claim to have lost. It's really a very rough thing to have to go through, especially since often there are items gotten from family members who are no longer alive. It can easily take 6 months before they receive significant money from the insurance company. Please remember that the insurance companies don't really want to part with any more money than they're forced to.

      Merely inviting notice of pertinent lines of inquiry. Where has the lava from the main tube gone? What conditions prompt the slow slip to a rapid slip? How much in trouble is the geo-thermal station? How helpful to safety is ignoring these questions? Perhaps a uniformitarian bias.

      Thank you. It is May 2018. I am glad to have been led to this film. I see Pele dancing on the 19.5 latitude, the sacred geometry vortex of Mother Earth. I have asked about the dropping of the rocky skirt Hilina into the ocean. Though it has happened before, and the debris is seen under the waves, at the foot of the seamont, white man science does not listen to the long cycles of ages. I do not want the string of 21 fissures to part the skirt from the land. My Bebes live all around the ring of fire. I respect the Huna and love the Mother. I invite all to dance the hula of the sacred rays of archangels of the One infinite creator. I ask the star families to alleviate catastrophe as all human awaken to remember each who they are, today, in this shift of ages. Aloha! Welcome home, children of the One!

    The fact is these "experts" don't know how active this eruption is going to be or how long it will last, all they have are previous eruptions in which they can compare their data with, however just because it is similar to the eruption in 1955 doesn't mean it will be exactly the same. As for catastrophic subsidence, again they are derelict in their duty to offhandedly dismiss this as never happening before because it has happened in the islands history. People may find it comforting to move into normalcy bias and say "well that was tens of thousands of years ago" but the fact is none of those experts know the longer eruption cycles of these volcanoes or that this eruption is part of a longer cycle of activity. Anybody living on this island should have the mentality "prepare for the worst and hope for the best" or you can just put your complete faith in government experts, personally I never leave my safety or the safety of my family to anybody but myself.

    Hilna Slump is now being insinuated as fantasy. The Q&A round robin refers to the USGS web site. Lastly the considerations on Lava sampling just needs a Titanium shelled AI made such for activities. Boiler operators know exactly who big to expect explosions when Super Hot meets various lower level temps. This can easily create a locomotive effect, in calculating explosion versus force equals level of movement. Hilna Slump is a total reality. Underwater landslides should be monitored by buoyies right now if they can think that far ahead.

    Thank you for debunking the “biblical” hysteria because it’s not biblical, it’s just normal for Hawaii. We need to have a separation of church and volcano. A Yellowstone eruption though might qualify as biblical but not the Kilauea system. Good job everybody and USGS for reaching out to the people, this is what the internet is all about.

    • @artcurious807
      @artcurious807 6 років тому +4

      World Coming Down 5778 , the world is not coming down and earthquakes and volcanos happen every year, every where on the planet. The problem with American Christianity is that its end times theology emerged out of isolation from its own history and the outside world. There have been major eruptions in the past that dwarf what’s going on in Hawaii - Lakigar fissure in Iceland, Toba, Tambora, and Krakatoa in Indonesia, and Yellowstone in America. The Siberian traps and there are 6 known supervolcanos around the world.
      In order for volcanic or seismic activity to be a sign it would have to be unusual in some way, it would have to show some signs of abnormality where people said hey this isn’t natural. That’s not happening. Nothing going on elsewhere either. If your interested there is an app called ‘Quake Feed’ that will show you all earthquakes around the world from 1.0 to 9.0. And you can see what goes on everyday on a living planet.
      I’m not anti religion, I read the Bible, but there is a history of apocalyptic hysteria dating back 1900 years and rising and falling with various dates and natural disasters. Imagine living in England in the year 1666, people were losing their minds.

    • @boldguardian5284
      @boldguardian5284 6 років тому +7

      The truth will be revealed soon. If you think that this volcanic activity is what Christians are pointing out, you must live under a rock. These things are happening all over the world. This one just happens to be in our backyard. You mentioned Yellowstone, you know it's showing new signs of activity right?? By your own words, an eruption of biblical proportion can happen at any moment, and you choose now as a time to mock Christians?

    • @Uluwehi_Knecht
      @Uluwehi_Knecht 6 років тому +1

      There is no such thing as "end times", only people deciding to willingly saturate their brains with conspiracy theories. The same science that allows you to comment on this video is the same science these expert scientists use to provide accurate information on Kīlauea.

    • @artcurious807
      @artcurious807 6 років тому +2

      Bold Guardian , listen I hate to be the bearer of bad news but geological activity did not begin with the discovery of America or new scientific instruments. What’s new depends on how far back our records go. Yellowstone will blow within the next 10,000 years because that’s what we know by record. The New Madrid fault will pop in about 200 years. The JuanDeFuca fault will snap at anytime. The 9.0 that hit Japan actually occurs every 1,000 years. Its not the end of the world.
      If you want to convince people of the worlds end then you must provide real evidence of something unusual, something that is Para normal or Supra natural. Geological activity on a living planet is natural, its normal.

    Promoting visits to the park is like asking people to get on rides in an amusement park that's on fire. in the past - every 100k years - there have been tsunamis generated by volcanoes collapsing after eruptions that devastated most of the Hawaiian Islands and reached No. America. Hope it doesn't happen this time, but it could. Why isn't govt. sending ships to evacuate more people there? IMO nowhere on those islands is safe.

    As I listen to this whole video this is just ridiculous. The cracks in the road are passable. Why in the hell would you cross a road that has cracks in it? At any given time they could collapse. Great idea. Just like the metal plates over cracks to patch the road. Metal plates over hot earth. People are smart.

    • @LardGreystoke
      @LardGreystoke 6 років тому +1

      Where I live we have what are called "potholes". I drove over one in the dark once and it broke my rim. And we have metal plates too. Not all roads are perfect. Not even in paradise.

    • @jacobcoolest
      @jacobcoolest 6 років тому +8

      LardGreystoke Yes I know what a pothole is, but when the earth is literally tearing the highway apart probably not the best idea to cross even with a metal plate as a "patch". Metal plates are used everywhere to cover potholes. Really shouldn't be used in an event where the road has been ripped apart by the earth moving. That can't possibly end well.

When it's known fact( I mean look a Google for fucks sake) that it shifts every two years, and low and behold it's due to shift any day now, but it's just a mere coincidence that all this ramped up volcanic activity is happening around the time of a shift, weakening the earth around the site and the say its nothing to worry about, but I guess they downplay it to avoid panicking the local population

    Volcanoes are driven by the gas beneath them. The gas accumulates over time. Saint Helens spent 100 years dormant. There was 100 years worth of magma dissolved gas beneath the mountain. The eruption was very violent. Kilauea erupts often. So, The gas accumulation is small. With less gas dissolved in the magma, the explosive force is much smaller. Think of a pop can when it is shaken and opened. That is how volcanoes work. More time, more magma dissolved gas, more explosive power. It is very good that Kilauea erupts so often. It is then much less violent.

    Man these people are vague. Can we please come to a consensus that this thing has a mind of its own. It's not like a cold front where you can predict to an extent. These people use real time data and compare them to past data. We are in 2018 and have no better way to measure this? The slump isn't explained very well just said go check the website kinda laughed off. Just because it hasn't happened before doesn't mean it won't happen. Crazier things have happened before and as far as I'm concerned playing chicken with this is not a good thing to do especially with people's lives at stake. People on the opposite side of the island have told me this is the worse air quality they have seen in well over 25 years. Very downplayed and very condescending attitudes from these people.

      It has happened before and may be happening again. Look at how the vents or fissures are opening in a straight line - sort of like cutting on the dotted line. There are a lot of underground explosions and look at all the cracking going on. The cracks are getting wider and deeper. And what is going to happen when the ocean water meets up with the lava in the fissures or the volcano itself? I believe the water may be the trigger that starts or continues the separation of the Hilina Slump.

      Shearing is a geological term that usually specifically refers to movement along fault lines. For efficiency and accuracy, scientist rely on precise terminology that doesn't usually equate with colloquial uses of the same words; this is why science journalists write articles to translate jargon into common parlance so everyone who aren't specialists can understand. The ground is splitting because of magma intrusion, nothing more.

      Krakatoa was a totally different volcano. The whole island was effected. The Hilina slump is only like an very small part of the island. It doesn't mean it would affect a lot of people should it happen. They know it's happened before. They claim they're keeping an eye on this movement, but it's nature and no one really knows why volcano's have a mind of their own. They don't want panic. People where warned to evacuate the Mt. ok the guy talking at 7:00 is absolutely WRONG! wtf did he fail geology of the Hawaii islands? shit man, that is how the islands erode into what they are today, pieces of them break off from time to time and slide down the slope, well documented. not often but enough to shape the island chain. at some point in time that section will break off right on the fissure line, maybe not this event but be sure some time in the future it will break off, its what the geological record show. why the hell he is saying this i could not guess, political pressure maybe? anyone who can type into google or read a geological history book on Hawaii can learn the truth. Pieces do break off and slide down the slope of the volcano that rises from the ocean floor its well documented occurrence in the history of the Hawaii island. I am by NO means saying its going to during this event as i have stated but it will one day for sure.
    EDIT EDIT, ok i re-listened to him what he said is Kilauea has never broken off a chunk, this is TRUE, because its a NEW volcano (relatively) to the other islands age. Kilauea is young in the island chain. so maybe it has not aged enough to break off a chunk, it will though, but if you listen he is only talking about Kilauea, not the other island volcanos. My bad. IF this section does it will be the first time Kilauea has broken off a chunk of land. sorry.

      Catastrophic landslides are indeed a part of the geological history of the Hawaiian islands (and many other volcanic islands) however, they happen on parts of the islands that are much older. Kīlauea is the newest section of the archipelago, and the scientist is just providing facts that there have not been any catastrophic landslides in the history of this particular volcano. Remember that the island of Hawai'i (aka BIg Island) is made of multiple volcanoes (all older than Kīlauea). Your misunderstanding here is understandable as the scientist who spoke did not proactively explain this, but in fairness, most scientists aren't the best communicators and this is why scientific journalism is so important. This audio is not polished journalism.
