    Tina Neal is such an amazing woman. Not only is she brilliant, one of the best in her field, but she is an amazing speaker as well.

    If the magma is draining from Kilauea and flowing out in Leilani estates, why would it return to Kilauea if it has found a new route out? This is an outstanding video. Great information.

      Magma is still coming up from deep under the summit. So, if and when something gets blocked in the rift zone, then pressure will back up and lava will stop somewhere higher up.

      Great point RetroGal. It has found an avenue of least resistance. How could it ever build up enough pressure at the summit to blow out the millions of tons of rocks and debris.

      The problem is, fissure 8 is now the avenue of least resistance. It could be thousands of years for lava to return to the summit... if ever.

      T Hoog, what is different about this event is that there is now millions of tons of rock, gravel and other debris between lava making it to the surface at the summit. It could be months or thousands of years before lava ever returns. No one really knows.

      Ricky Jordan it has done it over and over in the past. It happened in 1955 and 1960. Throughout the 19th century the summit went through many cycles of inflation and collapse. Right now the volume extruded exceeds the volume replaced. That will not continue forever.

    Thank you so much for this information! Very interesting to us mainlanders who are interested in what is happening to the Big Island.

    Why not set up a visitor center in Volcano Town? Big screens with real time video of both the cauldera AND the active fissures? Many of the learning tools such as the volcano model, maps and history displays could be simply MOVED there. Maybe incorporate the Herb Kane art? This seems like a good mediation between what tourists want and what small business NEEDS in the town. Volcano Town has alot to offer and is a groovy destination that should be promoted.

    Just found this video today. Ronda is great to listen to. After veiwing this video I think there's a huge concern about the current and long term safety of the residents that are affected by the volcanic activity. It seems that some of the speakers were wanting to say more about the Kilauea volcanic event. But I'm sure a lot of interesting & important info was(is) being witheld from the residents living near the activie volcanic area(s). I hope the residents get warnings well in advance if the volcanic activity takes a turn for the worse so they can get out of harm's way.

    You have very good managers and teamwork dealing with this situation. I hope that there is enough funding, since receipts from visitors must be down drastically.

      These USGS kids are very close to conspiracy theorists, they're sanctioned tho. They'll come back in a week and admit they got it wrong. What they're telling here isn't what's happening, its only what they 'think' is happening.

    Very brave of the scientists to say that they are not knowing when this will ends. Their is just no answer to that, people living and making money in that area, have to adapt to mother earth and not trying to change the earth's behaviour in their favor. In fact there is no damage done, mother earth creates the surface and we humans trying to change that surface to our needs, and we forget we do not own it.

    What about the new road cracks on Golf Links Rd? Where is that road? I saw a video by EpicLavaTours & they showed the old caldera wall in the jungle. Curious about the status of those cracks! Hope Don goes to see them. Great informative meeting! 🌋🌴🍍

    The National Geographic photos were not clear...are they using their pro photo gear to shoot or a cell phone. I would think pro gear is required to document this historical event. Just my humble opinion.

    • @Thyalwaysseek
      @Thyalwaysseek 6 років тому +1

      I think the same when I hear them say "we haven't had a chance to document any lava outbreaks today" or "it's not safe enough to go to those areas yet so we are not sure what's happening there"...with all the state of the art tech with drones and cameras why the hell aren't they being utilized for this event?

    • @dsatt57
      @dsatt57 6 років тому

      Thyalwaysseek they are but for a while the ashfall kept them from being able to fly the drones. It’s calmed down some now.

    • @Thyalwaysseek
      @Thyalwaysseek 6 років тому

      There hasn't been an explosive eruption with an abundance of ash fall for at least two weeks now and how does ash stop drones from flying anyway?

  • @Kosmonooit

    What are the chances of an explosive eruption with the lava shaft getting plugged up now, once the fissures in the rift zone bung up?

    I think they should name fissure 8 Luana after the street it is located on.

    When will the money of the United States geological survey for studying this irruption run out? I have to think that you are spending money at a much higher rate than was anticipated. Given that Congress is distracted and the Trump administration seems to hate science in general, when will you have to stop studying this irruption to the full extent that it really deserves. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I’m concerned that funding issues will mean that you are not allowed to get the full value from it.

    • @wbwarren57
      @wbwarren57 6 років тому +1

      You are probably right. Why don’t we cut their salaries entirely so that we can give even more money to the richest in America?

    • @brokenlibrary2591

      I don't wish for anyone to cry, no need. I do agree that all the new voters, young people, are full patriots and going red. No one wants any part of the hate spewing Maxine Waters/Joy Behar type of trash talk.
      We speak aloha here. Democrat no more.
