Scariest thing to me is whole, relatively attractive & well built downtown areas completely abandoned in favor of cheap franchise sprawl up on some highway
If there was a poodle named Precious running around, I would have definitely skedaddled quickly. But alas, the scariest thing in that town was that bridge / tunnel!
you inspired my wife and i to start our own you tube channel here from the uk.. so a big thankyou . were going to concentrate on historic sites castles etc.. were very much looking forward to it and would like to extend our thanks for the inspiration and look forward to sharing our mini adventures with you.
Adam Tereska thanks adam but our first trip out will be this weekend. and then i want to try and make it look about 10percent of the quaility of the mighty woos. and then if its ok with the wooster ill post a cheeky link .
Lee Vining i stayed in a hotel on the south coast in a town called Torquay. and on the walls theyve stripped the wallpaper and have plexiglass now protevting squadrons of american and british bomber boys that stayed there forever immortalised
Put the lotion in the basket!! Great vlog today as are all of your vlogs. You passed by my grandmothers hometown of Uniontown, PA on the way to Perryopolis. I showed here the video where you showed the town circle in Perryopolis and she told me how the family had to go through in order to get to the highway to go to Pittsburgh
You're in my general neck of the woods. One of us had to appraise that house. Cool location, house, train car, garages. The lake around it is man made by the railroads for when they'd water the steam engines.
God morning Mr Adam Hello every single one of you followers out there.Have a beatutiful day Ohh and I am 51 today May 31... Yippi Greetings from Oslo,Norway
Thanks Mr Woo! I've been following you since you left Florida in your van and it tickles my heart to see you in areas I've been. but I do miss Jinger lol.
Adam....my family is from the towns of Monongahela, Monessen and Charleroi! I was so excited to see you driving through those cities! It really was amazing, those are not cities that most people talk about! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I thought that looked awfully familiar. I've attended a model airplane contest in nearby Carmichaels for a number of years and the steam plume is always visible from the contest site. One year we stayed in Uniontown and drove by the power plant twice a day for a week.
And a very good morning to you Mr. Adam. Still hoping you plan on making our way out to Hershey while your here in PA. Any plans for a meet and greet while your here? PA has lots to do. Hershey Park has some truly majestic roller coasters too. Safe travels.
That bridge you went over used to be a railroad bridge. There is a cool boat rental company around there that will take you up river and you can float back.
Dear Sir, Your commentary is the bomb. Luv, Luv, all your vids just for the sound of your voice. I hope you have had children to tell wonderful stories and short quips to because you bring words to life with that voice.
Mail Pouch is still in production. Originated by Bloch Brothers and continued when Swisher International bought them out. And all in my hometown of Wheeling, WV, just down the road , a piece, from Pittsburgh.
I am originally from that part of the country. Couple of things: 1.) Yes Stan Musial is from DonORa as is Ken Giffey Sr. 2.) It is pronounced MoNESSen. 3.) I believe that spooky bridge was also used in a 'Justified' episode. 4.) All of those small western PA towns along the Monogahela River suffered from coal dust and smoke from the steel mills. It was highly industrialized area back in the 1940s to early 1970s. Then the mills shut down and the towns really suffered. 5.) I have been through Layton a number of times. There used to be a white water rafting company there. They would take people 10 miles up the river and then let them float back to Layton. In the spring that river is a really active. Very nice trip. It's too bad you didn't have more time to spend in the area. There are tons and tons of interesting old things to explore and find.
I was looking for a video of you at the mirage in Vegas watching the volcano but I could not find it but it was interesting seeing only like 20, 30, or maybe only 40 comments on average. Nice to see so many more people enjoying your videos! Thank you, Adam the Woo!!!
You should head East to Indiana, PA! Hometown of James Stewart. There's a museum dedicated to him in town and I think they have some of his actual Oscars on display. (At least, they used to when I went to college there 15 years ago.)
A You Tuber did a vlog once about the crosswalks in that town that had the voice of Jimmy Stewart played by Rich Little telling you when and when not to cross the street. Pretty cool
Looking at the narrow bridge and tunnel to me it looks like it was once a single track railroad no doubt abandoned years ago and turned into a roadway. And that "train" is an old caboose that railroads don't use hardly anymore. Great vid!
Great Vlog! You drove by my house in this video. You should check out Meadowcroft it's the oldest archaeological site in North America.Lots of great history there.
Directly above the tunnel in Perryopolis, at time 1:38, is a network of caves facing out at the river. You can either take a small 4x4 up on side, or there is a secret road where the bridge layers suspended up top from. And there are albino small bats living up there. The cave entrances are large with sand and a platform to camp. It's pretty neat.
yo i took a rental grand am up that hill, and made it all the way thorugh, then once i got into the woods i stole the st sign that said only garbage throws garbage, and have it hanging right here, that was like 15 yrs ago,lol
"Are you tellin me that this thing is Nuclear!?" I was in PA this past weekend. In a little town called Intercourse. lol Great vlog. I love the bridges and the houses there. There's so many.
Kittanning which is a little Northeast of Pittsburgh is the filming site of Mothman Prophecies, which they portrayed as WV. One of the major ones at least.
Adam, if you're still in town be sure to check out the Soldiers and sailors memorial museum in Pittsburgh/Oakland. they have an awesome museum and it also has several filming locations from the silence of the lambs as well.
It was really cool seeing driving on the roads I do daily. Hope you enjoyed your visit to my neighborhood. on your way to Pittsburgh on Route 51 I was surprised to see you pass up our famous dead mall Century III Mall. Safe travels my friend.
My grandfather is from Monessen. It's a former steel town. It sits on the Monongahela River, and is a portmanteau of MON+ESSEN, Essen being a historical steel town in Germany.
Woo love the morning vlog's, hearing your intro lifts my spirit. I hope you get a chance to go check out Gettysburg, that would be an awesome vlog to watch. My wife and I love your channels, keep up the great work.
I watch from my XBOX ONE S Adam, you're terrific, I appreciate everything you do. Due to my disease, I can't work or drive. You at least keep me away from boredom.
If you head east in Pennsylvania, there's an interesting vintage town about 40 miles north of Philadelphia by the name of New Hope. Along with its neighboring city, Lambertville, which lies across the Delaware river in New Jersey, it's a pretty interesting historic little town, definitely worth a stop!
thats amazing and i get a very big kick out of finding filming locations myself. love that movie Silence Of The Lambs. Halloween is one of my fave times of year to.amazing video Adam
10 ton limit weight limit on that bridge (saw it on your exit, to the right after the tunnel), which is amazing for such a narrow and old (maybe it isn't as old as it looks) bridge.
You're so close to Pittsburgh, Adam! Lots of reasons to go there (Mr. Rogers statue on the North Shore, set artifacts from his show at the John Heinz History Center, classic old bridges and inclines, Andy Warhol Museum, multiple filming locations, etc.). Arnold says, Just Do It!
The tunnel was dark and foreboding. Light seemed to avoid it as if it were afraid it might be snuffed out any instant never to return. Summoning the courage to drive through it Adam charged through the tunnel only to be confronted on the other side by something that could only exist in the nightmare world on the other side of the tunnel. That's how it felt to watch that vlog at that moment. I had recurring nightmares as a child of going off a bridge and drowning. There were a lot of places you showed today that really gave a creepy vibe I still enjoyed it though! Except for the bridge of course.
If you are ever in Ohio Adam, head over to Canton. There is a restaurant by the name of Milk and Honey and it is very old school with it's layout and decore. LOTS of coke memorabilia on the walls and the food is fantastic.
Adam I can't believe you was in my town and I missed you! Unreal! you should of stopped to check out the underside of Layton bridge, you can stick your fingers trough the beams. You were SO brave taking large Marge across! wow I won't even drive across that in my car! wish I would of see you! COME BACK SOON!
While in PA , you should visit Mars PA ( north of Pittsburgh ) .Theres an large Flying Saucer in the middle of town and it's also where the movie " Kingpin " was filmed
Adam....I TOTALLY enjoy ur visits to movie locations. I would LOOOOVE for you to do MORE "then & now" movie locales!! Keep up the GREAT vlogs! I watch EVERY day!!
The Daily Woo in my hometown DONORA. Mind Blown. Home of Stan Musial and Ken Griffey. Also where Joe Montana played his high school football. The old mill that's been since destroyed in Monessen is where Robo Cop was filmed as well.
Just an FYI, those are just the standard hyperbolic shaped cooling towers of a traditional coal burning power plant. That's not a nuclear plant so no worries of growing 2 heads. They are shaped that way to accelerate the steam out up into the atmosphere.
Jame Gums pit wasn't in that house. It was a prop built elsewhere. I heard the new owner welcomes SOTL geeks. There are all kinds of different locations for the film in the area. Baltimore State Prison is gone, leveled. The bridge leading to where it was is still there, Morganza Road Canonsburg PA. Soldiers and Sailors in Oakland is where Lectors temporary cell was, it's still open. The house where Crawford showed up with the flower delivery van is in Shaler, still looks close to 91. The inside of the Carnegie Museum where Clarice brought the bug cocoon is gone, remodeled. Catherine Martins apt with the cat in the window is still there in Crafton.
Adam, you are near my home town. Connellsville, only town in America that can say has a Olympic Gold Medal winner (John Woodruff 1936 Berlein Games) and a Heiman Trophy winner (Johnny Lujack, Notre Dame).
Buffalo Bill later became Captain Stottlemeyer from the tv series Monk-Ted Levine. Adam go east to the Bethlehem steel and Mack Trucks area-Lehigh Valley
well Adam if you ever make it up here to Oregon you will see we have nothing but full service gas stations and they charged a little bit less than California rates but for full service so it's still expensive but not as bad as California not as much as a full service in California either I live in California most of my life moved up here about 5 years ago really love the weather and the beauty of it the Green Green Grass of Home baby!
Adam, Mail Pouch chewing tobacco is still around, having been bought by the Swisher International Group (makers of Swisher Sweets little cigars). It's been around sine 1879.
Mr. Wooooo, you remind me of Huell Howser from a PBS show called "California's Gold". Love your vlog. Had a vlogathon when I was home sick from work. Thanks!
At 6.36 over to the right is where they filmed Robocop at wheeling Pittsburgh steel. Tho the steel mill was torn down long time ago would have loved to explore it
the most famous line of any horror movie, it rubs the lotion on its skin or it gets the hose again. Thanks Adam for showing Buffalo Bill's house. Great vlog!
The Donora killer fog happened shortly before the same thing happened in London, England. Was a screaming warning that got ignored. Same reason, same result. Almost happened in Denver about the same time. Fixed the same way, coal fires were put out (or emissions cleansed), buildings cleaned, fog went away, then, fir the US at least, Clean Air Act that created (or fortified) the EPA came about as a result and now we have cleaner air because businesses were forced to clean up their act..
+HappyMommy watson - Zinc smelting is a pretty toxic process, all kinds of nasty gasses are produced. In modern factories there are all kinds of vent hoods, safety equipment, and filtering "scrubbers" to clean it out. But at the time, they were just vented out of tall chimney stacks where usually the wind would blow them away, since they come out hot and heat rises. After enough dilution the concentration gets low enough to be harmless. However, add in still air and an atmospheric inversion over a valley, and you've got a recipe for disaster. All those toxic fumes just settled down to ground level and people breathed them in unknowingly - it just smelled bad, but likely nobody really thought much more of it. Then they started getting sick. Essentially, the 31 were gassed to death - I'm guessing most of them were elderly, or very young, or already had a pre-existing pulmonary condition like TB (which was still pretty common at the time). Hundreds more got sick and eventually recovered, although it's hard to tell how many of them had permanent damage that might have killed them later on.
That was good MrJest2, thank you. In London was just particularly dirty coal smoke mixed with the same atmospheric conditions as Donora, killed a lot more folks. Shame is, neither needed to happen, but at that time, who knew?
10 tons, that's what the sign says for that one lane old bridge which was pretty awesome so u we're good. Just in case you would happen to want to go back sometime. I liked your video, very nice!!.......
I love your Vlogs! Been watching for a while! I like to travel so its really awesome to come along with you on your travels! I love Guttermouth! saw them in Eugene oregon about 14 years ago or so...I got super excited when you said you were in the band in a vid a while back. It would be awesome if you played the song Lipstick! I would LOVE IT!
Time index 5:57 sign says: Weight limit 10 tons. You're in the 10 ton range. Slide out Class C's your length are more like 12 tons. Those tickets ain't cheap.
Dude, you are inches away from Kennywood. Keep following the Monongahela River North. Also have to say that I was squeezing my shoulders in when we went through the tunnel, and crossed the bridge.
It rubs the lotion on its skin
TheDailyWoo I like family guy's version of silence of the lambs Stewie cracks me up

Anyone else hold their breath while he drove over that bridge??? You find the most interesting things, Adam! Safe travels!
And here we all thought L.A.'s smog was bad! Interesting story! Loved seeing the Mongomery Wards sign. I sure loved their catalogs!

These episodes of the Daily Woo that feature small, backwoods/rural towns are hands down my favorite. Can't get enough of 'em.
That wasn't a nuclear power plant, that was the old Hatsfield's Ferry coal plant.
I thought that looked awfully familiar. I've attended a model airplane contest in nearby Carmichaels for a number of years and the steam plume is always visible from the contest site. One year we stayed in Uniontown and drove by the power plant twice a day for a week.
Fun fact: the now infamous line "Hello Clarice" is never actually said in the movie!
And a very good morning to you Mr. Adam.
Still hoping you plan on making our way out to Hershey while your here in PA. Any plans for a meet and greet while your here?
PA has lots to do. Hershey Park has some truly majestic roller coasters too. Safe travels.

He didn't quite pass it...yet.
Very good stuff Adam! Drive safe
My grandfather is from Monessen. It's a former steel town. It sits on the Monongahela River, and is a portmanteau of MON+ESSEN, Essen being a historical steel town in Germany.

One of my most fave movies!!!!!! Thank you for showing this!!!!
Thanks for the vlogs Adam. Also, I can't get Tim Tracker's Legoland pizza guy voice out of my head.
The tunnel was dark and foreboding. Light seemed to avoid it as if it were afraid it might be snuffed out any instant never to return. That bridge was originally built for trains. It's been used for automobiles since 1933.
That crickity bridge was scarier then the silence of the lambs house!
I can hear “ Goodbye Horses” echoing in the background. Great find, Adam the Woo!!
The Daily Woo in my hometown DONORA. Mind Blown.
Home of Stan Musial and Ken Griffey. Also where Joe Montana played his high school football.
The old mill that's been since destroyed in Monessen is where Robo Cop was filmed as well.
I'm £2.19 a litre in Scotland so your fuel price is like a dream come true to me.
Just an FYI, those are just the standard hyperbolic shaped cooling towers of a traditional coal burning power plant. That's not a nuclear plant so no worries of growing 2 heads. They are shaped that way to accelerate the steam out up into the atmosphere.

Pretty sure the "Clean Air Started Here" means the smog event got the ball rolling for clean air laws.
Adventures by George Wonder if there are any graves that state anything about the smog...
It means that there is a municipal ordinance against farting.

MrJest2 thank you for explaining
That was good MrJest2, thank you. In London was just particularly dirty coal smoke mixed with the same atmospheric conditions as Donora, killed a lot more folks. Shame is, neither needed to happen, but at that time, who knew?
That tunnel and bridge was also in the movie. It was once a railroad bridge and tunnel
10 tons, that's what the sign says for that one lane old bridge which was pretty awesome so u we're good. Just in case you would happen to want to go back sometime. I liked your video, very nice!!.......
